Love this spot!!! Took the family there and my youngest Son couldn't stop talking about the dumplings!!! We'll definitely be back!!!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service and food.
We tried an array of apps and each got a different entree. My favorites were the cloud shrimp and curry chicken ramen. Broth was so warm and comforting after a long walk around the city. Space is small so would be better as a date night spot then a family dinner. Our only complaint we had was the space of the bar and trying to converse was hard (we had 5 in our party) but a fault of ours not theirs for not checking first. With no reservation they were still able to seat us immediately which we greatly appreciated.

A small restaurant actually located high above ground and accessed by taking stairs, Toki Underground did not disappoint with their food! My friend and I had a reservation and took advantage of a $25 off $75 deal, so we ordered quite a few items--yuzu lemonade ($5), chilled tofu ($7), vegan dumplings ($8), red miso ramen ($18), spicy vegan mushroom shoyu ramen ($18), and shortcake for dessert ($8). The lemonade and tofu were nice and refreshing, and my friend practically inhaled the shortcake at the end. My mushroom ramen was on the saltier side and had beets and sour pickled vegetables which I personally thought clashed with the savory ramen broth. Otherwise the noodles were very good, and we left extremely full! Service was initially slow and it took awhile to get our waiter's attention to order, but the food arrived reasonably quickly and they checked in on us often.
Be the first to ReplyFood was good and the service was phenomenal.
I do think the ramen could have had more flavor and different toppings , I've had ramen for half that price and they were better. Overall it was a good spot !

Giving this a 5/5 because the chicken steam buns were incredibly good!! The other standout was the perfectly sweet and crunchy breading on the (very large) shrimp.

Their ramen selections have gotten smaller! The Tonkatsu ramen used to have a nice piece of pork but now it's just shredded pork. Why change it?
Be the first to ReplyEveryone in our group had a mild stomach ache after.
The ramen came out tepid at best. The egg was barely cooked and still had runny whites. The pulled pork that they use is dry. In my opinion it was the worst ramen I've ever had. I definitely lost points with my friends for recommending the place. Also had the pork belly buns the meaty part of the pork belly was also very dry. Never again!

Atmosphere is really cool but odd sitting. Service was very good and all were friendly !

Loved the food at Toki! The Toki classic could have been more flavorful but the Taipei curry chicken ramen was tasty. Our bartender Chris made us a fantastic drink, a yuzu margarita. Would love to see it on the permanent menu!

Friday night dinner for two, walked upstairs to a very busy restaurant which is always a great sign. Highly recommend making a reservation via Resy.STARTERS:Fried Chicken Steamed Buns - order two/four: $10/$15Japanese mayo, sweet chili sauce, seasonal pickles, cilantro, thai basil*I recommend you get an order of four because after you eat one you're definitely going to want another. The buns are ridiculously fluffy, the fried chicken has a spicy sauce that I could bathe in and the crunch is amazing. If you love a good crunchy sticky texture this is for you! This was my favorite bite of the night and will definitely come back to order four just for myself.Kimchi (contains fish sauce) - $4.50*I was honestly shocked at how good the kimchi was, super freshy and tasty. I wanted a whole container of this to take home. Miso-Garlic butter Corn - Togarashi, scallions - $5 (GF)*The miso garlic butter is pretty ingenious, that hint of miso added a depth of flavor to the corn. NOODLES:Chicken Mazeman - $17Broth-less noodle tossed in sweet soy sauce, served with crispy chicken thigh or mushrooms, soft egg, scallions, pickles and fried shallots*I wasn't really in the mood for a bowl of soup but I was in the mood for noodles and these didn't disappoint. Large portion, great to split if you're looking to try many menu items.DESSERT:Chocolate Chip Cookies - miso butter & cream $7*3 cookies served warm with cream to dip them inSERVICE:The manager took care of us, very attentive and made great recommendations throughout our meal.

Food was delicious! However, the place is very small and not great for groups larger than two. The music was very loud and the wait staff was not friendly. It's a good place for college kids or cool young people, but not great for a date or for someone who wants to sit and have a nice dinner to catch up and talk.

Cute spot to grab a drink and a bite with a friend! Not the best place for large groups (anything greater than 2 people). Make sure you make a reservation before coming!Came here with a friend after hearing about all the hype Toki Underground had online. I was a little underwhelmed by this place. SEATING: 3/5 - There's only a few seats available in the restaurant, all of them being bar seating (no actual tables). Be aware that you won't be sitting face-to-face with whoever you go with. Seating was VERY tight, but the restaurant was overall good about being efficient with the space they had. NOT good for groups.SERVICE: 5/5 - Although I did not like how the space was set up for seating, Toki's service overall was great. It was easy to place our orders, as the servers were attentive. And food came relatively fast (~15 min).FOOD: - Taipai Curry Chicken Ramen: 3.5/5 - Unique dish, but I wasn't too wow-ed. The broth tasted like watered down curry. I was expecting the the chicken to be Taiwanese Fried Chicken (since it was called Taipai Ramen), but it definitely was not. Noodles were cooked to perfection though. - Toki Classic Ramen: 4/5 - Good ramen overall! There were a lot of components in this ramen and the flavors of the broth were really good. I actually really liked their food, but for the price we paid, I expected to be wow-ed a little bit more. Still a solid ramen place though.
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelming, that pretty much sums it up.
I liked the vibe and staff was super friendly/welcoming, but that's about it for the positives. Space is definitely cramped and counter seating just isn't comfortable, particularly the proximity to others. Classic ramen was ok, even subpar, broth lacked depth and rest of ingredients were ok (egg in one dish and chicken in other were actually cold, also kale?). Couldn't get past onion flavor in the vegan dumplings, they lacked balance, and vegan dan dan noodles were actually terrible. Maybe an off night, but this was definitely a one and done.

I would give it a 5 strictly for the food if it wasn't for the rude and dismissive staff.I had been to Tokk Undergrojnd a few years back with my dad for lunch and we had a really great experience. I was so excited to take my boyfriend while we were in DC for a quick trip since we both love ramen so much. I made a reservation on google through Resy for 5:45pm about a week before. When we got there we were running just a few minutes late but we'll within the grace period. My boyfriend dropped me off to find parking and when I got to the hostess stand she said she didn't see my reservation and walked away. I stood there and finally she came back and asked where my reservation was and I showed her my email. I asked her if I made the reservation correctly and she responded with "yea sweetie just hold on". She immediately had a tone from the start and acted like she didn't want to be there. She eventually told me she could "squeeze us in" but said my boyfriend had to be there before we could sit down. Once he came back she said "now that your little friend is here you can eat" and seated us.I knew this restaurant had limited seating but as we were seated the server started off with "there's a 75 minute limit for dining and then you need to go" instead of politely introducing himself. I ordered a cocktail which tasted like straight bathroom cleaner and my boyfriend ordered a Japanese beer which he said was just okay. The food however, 10/10 100% worth dealing with the rude staff. We started with the pork buns and pork dumplings and they were amazing. The dumplings had a soft but crisp skin with delicious filling and dipping sauce. The pork buns just the same, I just wish it came with more for the price! The ramen was just as delicious as I remember! I can not wait for the Baltimore location to open since that is much closer to me but I really hope they care more about who they hire as staff for this place.

This is a very small, cozy, but awesome Asian-fusion spot for ramen noodle soups, dumplings, and broth-less noodles. Food and cocktail were deliciously amazing. I enjoyed the broth-less noodle tossed in sweet soy sauce with mushrooms, and I added their Asian fried chicken. The cocktail with the fried pork belly was quite a compliment to my meal. Not the best place for a group. Well-worth the solo night out! Absolutely delicious.

Everyone loves a good bowl of ramen right? This intimate & cozy asian fusion restaurant serves everything from ramen, to dumplings & even steamed buns. To all my gluten free followers, they even have a gluten free options so you can join in on the deliciousness! We decided to start off with a few appetizers while we waited for our ramen. The "Pork Dumplings" were extremely tasty & perfectly topped with miso-chill ponzu sauce that added a little kick. We also went with the "Charred Brussel Sprouts" & the "Pickles Plate" which were both delicious. Now for the main event, the noods! I had the "Kimchi" infused ramen only because I can't get enough when it comes to spicy food. This bowl had the perfect balance of tonkotsu (pork) & kimchi then with all of the additional toppings? chefs kiss. My only complaint though is that the music can get a little loud which makes it hard to hear your friends but overall, the food & service was great!

Went to Toki Underground on a Saturday afternoon with no reservation, there was a 45 minute wait, but definitely worth it. The vibe inside the restaurant was so cute. It definitely gave intimate hipster ramen bar. I'm not a huge ramen fan unless its the Shin ramen in packets, but this was amazing. I got the Kimchi Ramen (not spicy at all) and a friend got the Toki Classic. Both were super flavorful and fresh. However, the broths didn't seem different at all and the soup did come out lukewarm and got cold pretty quick. This could've been because we went close to the afternoon closing, but that was the only downside. The drinks were okay, definitely strong and tangy, but wouldn't order again. I'd definitely go back just for food and make sure to make a reservation!
Be the first to ReplyA very busy environment, but overall had a nice time.
The appetizers were delicious and the cocktails were, too! The cocktails do take a few minutes to mix and the time you have is limited to 75 or 90 minutes so you have to keep that in mind if you want to have more than 1 and not be rushed. Cool little place!
Be the first to ReplyWe had an enjoyable dinner at Toki Underground but it took
We had an enjoyable dinner at Toki Underground but it took a while for our backs to recover. The space is small, and, in order to make the most of it, the restaurant relies on counter seating with metal benches. It is a little crowded (especially in this time of covid) and the lack of a back, or the ability to rest one's feet on the floor can be uncomfortable. Between courses, we often had to get off the stools and try and stretch or move around a bit which can be awkward in the tight space. On to other and more positive things. We found the staff to be friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. We didn't do a proffered sake flight tasting but the descriptions we heard bits of seemed on point. The food is based on classic Japanese cooking, but, the chef aims to incorporate fresh ingredients whenever possible. This can make for the occasional puzzling combo like ramen with okra. But, the okra was good and not at all slimy so it wasn't an unwelcome addition, just unexpected. We enjoyed the strong sesame flavor of our crunchy green bean salad with sesame dressing and the taste of the pork belly bao bun although the fact that it arrived deconstructed and we had to assemble it ourselves was really messy. The night we dined, the chef wanted to explore the delicious and fresh seafood we find locally. The clams in ginger and sake broth were meaty and well cooked. The broth was tasty with little sticks of ginger. I just wished there was more of it. The only broth to be found was that which hid in the clam shells which wasn't much. We would have really enjoyed having this dish served in a bowl (more like mussels) with the broth and bread to soak it up. The noodles in the tonkotsu ramen were really springy and had a great bite to them and the egg was cooked just right. The meat, however, was just a little hard and we would have liked a stronger broth. Our dessert was a soy milk panna cotta with a very tasty and gooey coffee and black sugar syrup which really complimented the dessert's creaminess. We enjoyed our dinner at Toki Underground with its inside and outside décor of eclectic collection of stickers donated by staff and diners alike. However, we may need to wait until they move to a bigger space with chairs before we can comfortably return.
Be the first to ReplyPros:Quality of broth is HUGE.
So much depth to the broth, does not seem any instant ingredients are used (like MSG). Price is understandable for the quality.Noodles had great tangyness that did not go limp despite being in broth for over 20 mins.Right amount of ingredients that had great balance overall to the ramenWaiter/bartender refills water for you Cons:Workers seemed stressed out and that shows to the service. They seemed disinterested to the customer but were doing their jobs. Not a lot of smiling workersGratituity/Tip (15%) is automatically included in the bill

I'm late coming to the Ramen party, but I'm glad this place lived up to the hype! We have worked our way through a good bit of the menu and have not had a bad dish ever. We have also had take out from here and they care about how it's put together, it wasn't just tossed in containers, it looked beautiful!

We read so many great reviews about this place but we weren't blown away with the ramen. It was good but not amazing. The broth was quite salty.
Be the first to ReplyI was super excited to try this spot after reading reviews
I was super excited to try this spot after reading reviews and boy was I not disappointed! Despite being called Toki Underground, this spot is actually located on the 2nd floor. The exterior windows are all full of stickers and I struggled for about 2 seconds to find the entrance. I made reservations beforehand because I read how packed it could get and we were seated promptly. The vibes are very hipster and lowkey, and the decor was very cool and chill with a ton of nice figurines and stuffed animals in glass cases. The menu was pretty expansive and decently priced. We decided to try the Pork Belly Steam Buns ($10), Red Miso Ramen ($18), and Taipei Curry Chicken Ramen ($18). I also ordered an Apple Sidra ($5). The Pork Belly Steam Buns were so good. The pork was tender and succulent with great seasoning and the buns were soft. Overall, it was a 9/10.The Red Miso Ramen was delicious! I was told it is a favorite among customers and it was easy to see why. The broth is rich and hearthy without being overwhelming. The noodles had the perfect bite and the pork was so juicy and tender. Overall, a 10/10!The Taipei Curry Chicken Ramen was just as delicious as the Red Miso. The broth is infused with curry, giving it a bit more body and flavor than the Red Miso. The noodles were also well done with the perfect bite. The fried chicken was amazing! It was crispy and crunchy and soaked in the broth, giving it a deeper flavor. This was also a 10/10! The Apple Sidra was yummy and reminded me of a less carbonated version of apple cider. A very easy drink that's not as sweet, it was an 8/10.Overall, this is an amazing spot that lived upto my expectations. I highly recommend popping by if you have the chance and want some really delicious ramen!
