10 out of 10 Fantastic!!! Had to come out to try Toma since it's been 5 years since my last visit! And I can confidently tell you- I was blown away! My only regret- eating the bread! It was delicious but the portions are very big and I was full halfway through my pasta! The food is absolutely Fantastic. To drink i ordered the "La Jovencita" a lightly spicy mezcal cocktail with a dried tamarind foam. It was all things; creamy, tangy, frothy, tart and not too sweet. Raul at the bar was excellent! When I asked about which Mezcal he used he told me he had personally gone to Oaxaca to meet with the producer. He's clearly passionate and knowledgeable about his craft. I had the signature tuna cones- totally unique and and delightful. Super delicate ahi tuna filled sesame cones amazing! I had the Gnocci for my main and honestly too good for words! Argentinian prawns with roasted garlic and a creamy savory pomodoro and black truffle sauce! Mmm chef's kiss! Really couldn't not say enough about the food.Ambiance is very nice. It's romantic yet lively so great for a date. Beautiful artwork on the walls. The demographic is mostly older and I believe reflects the pricing which is on the high side- as a restaurant worker myself I understand this subject will be subjective but for me I was more than happy with the value I experienced! I highly recommend Toma.

Went here for date night on a Saturday evening with 5:00 pm reservations. We were immediately greeted and seated at our table; our waiter provided us with drink suggestions. The indoor seating is very romantic, with the dark lighting and red tones. We received complimentary bread with olive oil, and to my pleasant surprise- blue cheese olives! I wish the bread came with vinegar, but the olives were delightful. Our appetizer was the Grilled Spanish Octopus. The octopus was cooked nicely, such that is was soft and easy to chew. It also came with a variety of micro greens and vegetables along with a sauce. This was my least favorite dish of the night; I found myself wishing for another/more sauce to add to the flavor. For our entrees, we ordered the New Zealand rack of lamb and the Bay Salmon. The rack of lamb was excellent. Soft and tender, juicy, and amazing taste. The salmon was also fantastic; the skin had a nice crisp and there was a plethora of flavor from the fish, two sauces, and beans. I noticed that the sauce with the salmon was the same as the sauce with the octopus. Overall, I highly recommend Toma for a nice dinner out with a significant other, or for a special occasion. The service, ambiance, and presentation are amazing. I took off a star because I believe that the food could have more flavor - it didn't outstand me like other Italian places I have been to. However, I was very satisfied with my dinner and I hope to come again soon.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful restaurant in a majestic location .
Great food and ambiance. Quiet, low key warm atmosphere. I ordered the ravioli it was delicious. Waiters also very nice. It is very not like Olive Garden and that's a compliment.

Such a romantic spot with gorgeous plates! Classic Italian cuisine-- prepare to feel STUFFED. Simple, one page menu. Beautiful table service, amazing desserts, try the gnocchi! Incredible meal. The 50/50 martini is one of the best I've had.

Love this place! Our favorite is the chicken- best thing on the menu. I also love the ambience- very romantic and near the ocean. Service is excellent.
Be the first to ReplyFour of us dined here on Saturday.
It's very popular so we made a reservation weeks ago. The new owners, Sam and Julian, each checked on us during our dinner. Great, energetic guys. The appetizer taco cones were great. We had ravioli, sausage pizza (awesome crust), and the special tenderloin with chanterelle mushrooms. It was amazing. The service was excellent. Everything was on time and perfect. We had a very special time.
Be the first to ReplyThe tuna cones were really crispy on the outside.
The strong sesame flavor added a depth of nuttiness to the dish, which was a unique take on a classic tuna appetizer. For our main dishes, we tried the black spaghetti and gnocchi, which were both good but slightly overpriced. The grilled octopus, on the other hand, was delicious and definitely a standout dish.We also had the creme brulee for dessert, which was just the right amount of sweetness and a perfect ending to the meal. The waiters were attentive and knowledgeable. The restaurant's cute interior provided a lovely ambiance for the evening. Overall, it is a great spot for a date night!
Be the first to Replyone of the best italian meals we've had the pleasure of
one of the best italian meals we've had the pleasure of eating. Wife's italian, we've been to Italy many times so we enjoyed the real deal many times. Have to say, Toma really delivered. The ambiance, all levels of the service, the food of course - all top shelf. If you're in Santa Barbara looking for a delightful evening you have to put this place on your list.
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful meal and experience.
The beet and citrus salad was excellent. The hazelnuts sprinkled over the top of the salad took it to the next levelLoved the butter that was sprinkled with Himalayan sea salt The lasagna was next level.
Be the first to ReplyAfter having many delightful, delicious and memorable
After having many delightful, delicious and memorable dinners here over the years, can say this evening's meal was a huge disappointment. The Squash Blossoms Starter was delicious. Ordered and was looking forward to the Black "squid ink" Spaghetti as an Entree. It was dry, almost like leftover pasta put in the refrigerator uncovered overnight. One of our guests ordered the Sea Bass special and it was cold. The ambience was another matter. One table had a crying baby and another a toddler who was carrying on. While this is certainly not the restaurant's fault, amazed at the lack of self awareness of parents who have seemingly no consideration of others and spoil an otherwise lovely "dining experience". After spending $300+ for this "experience", won't be going back. Santa Barbara has many other restaurant options that deliver better than this.
Be the first to ReplyWe had such a wonderful time & enjoyable dinner here.
It was an exceptional experience overall - from the ambience, to the friendly/orderly service and delicious food. The complimentary castelvetrano olives that was lightly fried and stuffed with blue cheese was a delight. We ordered their grilled spanish octopus for our starter, which was very tender and perfectly seasoned. For our mains, we shared the flat bread with prosciutto and arugula, squid ink pasta with clams and pork calabrese for me & the crispy skin skuna bay salmon for hubby. While we enjoyed everything, IMO squid ink pasta pairs well with shrimp than clams. The salmon was excellent with guanciale and smokey tomato remoulade - sauce was delish, meat was moist and tender yet the skin was crisped to perfection. All the flavors melded well. Would absolutely order the salmon again! For dessert, we shared a chocolate dessert with vanilla ice cream and raspberries.
Be the first to ReplyThis is one of the best spots to eat on Carrillo Blvd.
I enjoy practically all of the dishes. I started off with the tomato bisque and ended with crรจme brulee! My main was the Cioppino GFO! Absolutely amazing food and awesome service. Love this place.
Be the first to ReplyVery good food.
Octopus salad was excellent, perfectly cooked with a nice smoky flavor. Roasted chicken was amazing, crispy skin and juicy meat. The service was excellent. Our waiter, Juan, was attentive and knew the menu and wines well, and provided excellent recommendations. Lasagna was a little bit of a let down as it had too much spinach which over powered the dish. That said we will return again next time we visit Santa Barbara.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and friendly attentive staff.

Do you like mediocre food and feeling unwelcome? If you do, then this place is for you. If not, read on. I made a reservation online using open table. We arrived on time and was greeted by the manager. I asked if we could sit outside and the manger completely gaslighted my sisters, mom and I. He said I made a mistake with my reservation (I did not) and I must specify outside dining next time. So, he sat us inside. Another couple came in after us and he did the same thing to them. Then he loudly explained to the host that, 'act like you didn't hear what (the guest) said and do not accommodate their preference of seating.' When the server showed up, we were given menus. We ordered gnocchi and lasagna and a few other unmemorable dishes (the veggies were very undercooked). The gnocchi was gritty, the food was dull, and service was sub-par for the amount of money they charge for dinning. The interior is very 80's, dark, and musky and the restrooms are dirty. The only reason I gave them 2 stars is the dessert was good. So if you'd like to eat dessert here, then it might be okay. If management responds to this review it only further shows that gaslighting guests is not only tolerated by this establishment, but also encouraged.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful location and the food was all really delicious.
The environment was lively and full of energy. We will return on our next trip.
Be the first to ReplyFood is great! Expensive though if you're not ready for it.
Drinks were great and they even cancelled one we didn't like.

Two evenings ago, we made an 8:00pm reservation at Toma, but arrived at 7:15 hoping to grab an empty table at a very, very popular time in a very popular and busy restaurant. Lucky us. The host was accommodating and found us a 2-top that opened up unexpectedly by a no-show. Beautiful, quaint place on the waterfront with experienced wait staff and excellent service. There were so many wonderful and unique items on the menu, we had difficulty selecting. Instead of entrees, we went with a combination of salads, sides, and appetizers, beginning with Little Gem salad covered with pistachios with vinaigrette. Delicious. We shared the tuna sashimi in cones made of sweet sesame seeds. This was so amazingly different than anything we've tried at sushi restaurants (Toma is not a sushi restaurant), and better. the sweetness of the sesame with the seasoning of the raw tuna was perfect! We shared a flatbread (pizza) and also ordered the special, a mushroom ragout pappardelle (that never came out) through no fault of the server or kitchen--long story. Skipped dessert, but had a fabulous local Sauv Blanc with dinner to make everything perfect. Our table indoors on the window overlooking the ocean was spectacular.

My first time eating here, and it definitely seems like my kind of place. The Little Gem Salad was stunningly presented, very unique, and really good, even though there was a hint of mint flavor added to it, that almost ruined it for me. I was unfortunately more than a bit disappointed in the Margherita Flatbread, however. It was surprisingly plain, with very little flavor. The tomato sauce on it was very thin, like tomato soup. Very little seasoning of any kind. I took it home and doctored it up with sea salt, garlic, and herbs, and it was much better! I always dislike it when restaurants do not put salt and pepper shakers on the tables. Of course I know I could always ask for one, but no one really checked on me while I was eating. Overall impression was strong enough that I will probably try this place again, and just make some different menu choices.
Be the first to ReplyLots of hype and it was pretty good.
Servers were overworked and a little slow. Bus boy was crazy busy and very good. That young boy was working hard. Met the owner, seemed ok. Not overly friendly, guess we're not locals. Corkage fee was waived due to slow service from server. We did not have to ask. We tipped well.

While tucked away a bit from the hustle and bustle of State Street, Toma was a wonderful surprise. With lovely atmosphere, excellent service and amazing food this is a great selection for date night or a celebration (or your average Tuesday if you're boujee like that). You do need reservations as the outdoor patio fills up quickly but definitely worth the view of twilight over the ocean

This place was suggested by a guide we had on our visit to Santa Barbara. ย We received 4 little balls of fried onion when we sat down. ย No particular taste at all. We ordered a salad and literally received the end piece of a romaine salad which at home you would throw away. ย On top of it you could see dirt on it . ย Of course we returned it. ย My husband had flatbread with homemade sausage which he said was ok. I had the raviolis and did enjoy those. ย All in I was not impressed. I expected a much larger variety in the menu. The bread which I saw mentioned in previous reviews is just that .. bread and butter. ย Nothing that exciting. There were definitely more locals eating there and they also were served before us even though we arrived at 5pm. Very dissapointed

My husband and I ate there on 2/22/2022 to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary. Our dinners were extraordinary! From the minute we walked in it was good & got better. It was so good we ate so much we were stuffed the next day. We figured such a splurge was worth it. Since you don't get to celebrate such a momentous event ever again in quite that configuration of numbers.
Be the first to ReplySolid little Italian joint close to the ocean.
As always, I ended up preferring my husband's dish to my own.The hot sourdough and salted butter they bring out is fabulous.I got a butternut squash ravioli which was fine, but not really what I expected. My husband's rigatoni was phenomenal-with a silky, slightly creamy meat sauce.
