Delicious food in special occasion setting.
A perfect special occasion place. Great food with lovely presentation. I had duck with parsnip puree, apples, and fois gras pudding. Fabulous. Cooked as ordered, and the right size portion. Pre-entree arugula salad was eh, but hot potato leek soup with fried puffed noodle was delicious. Dessert was a white chocolate soufflé with pistachio crème and was wonderful: creamy, the right amount of egginess, not too sweet yet smooth and unctuous. My husband had the scallops, which he said were the best he has ever had, cooked perfectly, sweet and tender. He also ordered the wagu beef appetizer, which we all tried: raw but seared on a hot stone and served with soy, pickles and wasabi. Meat was very thinly sliced and tender but nothing to write home about despite the very substantial price. Daughter ordered the homemade pasta bolognese, which was yummy. Servers come to the table with a variety of breads, including ciabatta and focaccia. I tried both, and felt they were just good, but my daughter and son love the focaccia. They offer several special cocktails. I asked for a chocolate martini ( their special was espresso martini) and it was very good. Mathew’s is a small, attractive place where you don’t have to shout to have a conversation. Exemplary service from our waiter and his several assistants. Free valet parking out front. Small but well appointed bar when you walk in. Upscale but not stuffy.

They always make us feel special. We only dine here a couple times a year because it's a bit far from home, but it's worth the drive. Our server this time was "Bow", and he is delightful - so knowledgeable and eloquent with his descriptions of the menu offerings, as well as making time to chat a little. We love this place!
Be the first to ReplyFamily of 6 celebrating a special birthday dinner
We have been dining at this restaurant with our entire extended family many times over the years and the experience has generally been good. This visit was however most disappointing in terms of the food quality and service. It was a special birthday celebration and my steak dinner entree came out barely warm so I asked for it to be redone or replaced with something else if that was easier. After a few minutes the very same plate reheated was served to me and passed off as fresh- I could immediately tell as id taken a bite of the potato piece earlier. The meat was obviously over cooked now that it had been reheated. I was so disappointed as it was not a fresh plate as one would expect from a fine dining restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Jacksonville Restaurant
This is one of Jacksonville's best restaurants. The food here is always well prepared. Excellent service. Upscale refined ambiance.
Be the first to ReplyThe pinnacle of hospitality
The stellar team at Matthews made our anniversary a night we will never forget! The food was delicious and artfully crafted, and the flavors of each dish were enhanced by Jess’ cocktail and wine pairings. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the food, wine, , drinks and history of not only restaurant but Jacksonville itself, without being pretentious. So many little details I never noticed were missing in other restaurants made for an exquisite experience. From the hostess to the manager, every member of the staff seemed invested in our anniversary like we were part of the family. No rushing or disingenuous check ins, I felt like we were honored guests being doted on in her home. As if the soufflé wasn’t amazing enough, she had the chef and entire staff sign our specialized menu, and gave us a detailed list of other things to do and experience when we visit Jacksonville to suit our tastes and interests. We’ve lived just an hour away for years now, and kick ourselves for not finding out about this gem sooner. We cannot wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding birthday evening
Special evening! Beautiful food, excellent hospitality from ALL who greeted and served us. Preston, John, and Robert made sure all was perfect. From the first course to my complementary champagne for my birthday, this was a first-class experience. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Over salted and waaayyyyy over priced. This is NOT fine dining. At best it's casual fancy dining. Very small space.
Be the first to ReplyBest restaurant in Jacksonville.
The food is superb. This is probably the best restaurant in Jacksonville. Ryan was our waiter, extremely sweet and his service is unparalleled. This is treat for you, a couple or your family. Life is short. Create experiences, things are nothing.

I only gave this lounge a 2 rating because of server #6 helping me retrieve my wife from a potentially dangerous situation. My wife clearly was over served at the lounge and she assisted me finding my wife and getting her out of there. You would expect a “lounge “ not to over serve and potentially crest a dangerous situation of driving in that condition
Be the first to ReplyCannot go wrong with the 6 courses chef’s adventure tasting menu
Amazing evening out. Everyone was so friendly as you entered the restaurant. It started with one of the best pomegranate martinis I ever had. Our server Jessica was excellent and all the servers that came to the table paid attention to detail. The most impressive part of the evening was the impeccable style of chef Justin. We had the 6 courses chef’s adventure tasting menu and I cannot say enough about the cuisine. The harmony of flavors and the mastery of technique with the plating presentation was magnificent. The chef came to the table to explain each plate that was presented. He’s very knowledgeable regarding the dishes he prepares and you could see his personality come through in the way the dishes were plated and the flavors that came through with each plate. With the cuisine Justin is preparing this restaurant could be a Michelin star restaurant in notime. By the way I am gluten free so the chef had to make changes to my dishes only. I cannot say enough on how much we enjoyed the entire evening. We will definitely be visiting Matthew’s again.

Arrived and had discounted drinks in the bar beforehand. Table setting simple but elegant. Ordered cheese and Wagyu appetizers both were excellent. The short ribs were delicious. The waiter was very, very knowledgeable about food, especially cheese and Italian meat cuts. All three of us loved the food and will return.

Outstanding service food and atmosphere. This was a wonderful restaurant to visit and would be quite appropriate for any sort of occasion. Highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyWagyu beef served right
The food is prepared to perfection and is priced accordingly. A5 Wagyu beef is available for $28/oz min 4 oz. or you can order the 2oz appetizer for $52. Steak tartar and tuna tartar are also available. You might make early dinner reservations and try the bar before where they have discounted drinks and appetizers 4:30-6:30. Entrees(most around $40) included short ribs, fish, Pasta Radiatori with A5 Wagyu beef seasoning. Great meal, will definitely return ...just as soon as I win lottery :).
Be the first to ReplyBig Flop !
BIG FLOP ...Left Mathews unsatisfied, unhappy and hungry... For many weeks i was looking forward to my reservations at mathews. On my night valentines day we where pre charged $300 in order to place a reservation...but it was ok because we all know that food and service is incredible.. well half way during our service we where informed that some ingredients run out.. no more truffles.. the single ingredient which makes me come to this restaurant in the first place and because they make soo many dishes with truffles all those dishes where out too.. remember folks i was pre charged $300 already..the pre fixed menu had very few options and taking the truffles out made it even smaller. We where forced to order what ever was available, the portions where extremely small and even paid extra to try the wagyu beef wich was a very small 4oz piece of meat that could fit in my mouth in one bite. At the end we received a check for the total sum of $450 because there was plenty of up charge items in a place with very small portions, no truffles, couldnt order what i wanted because they ran out and basically left hungry to get home and dig thru my fridge. In all 2 couples paid almost $1000 dollars for dinner that is not woth it... and BTW.. it was my birthday, i mention it to the hostess several times and not even a single congratulations all nigth... somebody dropped the ball here but i wont be back to find out if it was fixed .. NOT WORTH IT.
Be the first to ReplyAnniversary dinner couldn't have been better !
The atmosphere is very intimate, dim lit. Very romantic. We had the pleasure of having 'Bow' as our server. I have never been to a restaurant with such a professional and knowledgeable server. He knew every dish to a 'T' and gave the best descriptions. He was very attentive and knowledgeable. The food was beyond words. We chose the chef adventure menu with the wine pairing and it did not disappoint. Worth every penny. If not back the food, definitely coming back for the outstanding service. Thank you for making our anniversary so special!
Be the first to ReplyWaiting for long times between courses. Only to be disappointed when the food did arrive.
Great atmosphere and pleasant surroundings. Parking is very difficult, but they offer a free valet service. Servers were attentive and pleasant. There were long time delays between courses. As long as 30 minutes or longer. Do not consider going unless you have 3 or more hours available to dine. Mixed on the food. Really like the Beef cooked on a rock with spices. Disappointed in the Ceviche. The pork chop was huge, but not fully cooked. Ordered the Souffle of the evening for desert, and was found it was good. More of a cake than expected. The coffee was outstanding! Given the price, not a good value for the money.

I have been a few times, and recently remembered that there was a steak tartare on the menu, and I had never had it. I am all about foodie adventures and this seemed like one that I couldn't pass up. I met up with two friends for Happy Hour and we enjoyed several things. First for me was a glass of champagne, or two. I also later had my first French 75 and it was divine. We all ordered from the HH menu, with the exception of my escargot. This escargot is the perfect dish, it has a sherry cream sauce and the escargot themselves are plump and tender. My steak tartare came and it looked so pretty! I really liked the capers and mustard flavors, as well as the pickled onions. This was something that I could order often and enjoy it each time. Matthews can be on the pricey side, but the M Lounge offers a nice little treat at a fraction of the cost.
