Good service, good food, good ambiance.
Nothing more that you could ask for IMO. The prices are good for yakitori in Hawaii and portions are good too. Drinks are reasonable. If there was one thing that may be an issue is the parking is tight. Hard for fit your TRD OR DCLB lifted yota.

We had such a great food experience and being able to watch the chef cook the food over the coals. Took me back to when I visited Osaka, Japan.

Pros:-Variety of grilled skewers, starting from the normal chicken thigh skewers, chicken meatballs, beef, or pork to the more adventurous chicken hearts, gizzards, skin, ...etc. -The chicken and meat are juicy and have a nice char on the outside. The chefs pay attention to how they cook on the grill.-Skewers are lightly flavored to enjoy the taste of the meat (there is more salt on table if needed)-Chef and staff are mainly Japanese (*Tip: you can call the staff by shouting "Su-mi-ma-sen", Japanese for excuse me, and it's not considered rude)-Lots of Japanese drink options (Beer, Chuhais, Highballs)-Cost is reasonable for the most part (I usually spend ~$30-40 per person. Each skewer is usually about $2.5-$3.5)Cons:-Service can sometimes be slow if you don't call out to the wait staff (use my tip above to call staff)-Seafood can be expensive (Shrimp $2.50+ for one on a skewer, scallop are more)-Parking can be very limited, especially on the weekend. The lot in front is pretty small. Otherwise, you need to find street parking. This is the best yakitori in Honolulu for the price. It has great food for a reasonable price and the atmosphere really reminds me of Japan. Some of my favorite dishes are the chicken and green onion (negima), chicken heart, pork and onion, and beef tounge. Also don't forget to get a grilled musubi (I love the miso one), and order it early since it does take a while. Go!
Be the first to ReplyI've been going here for years.
They were a little spot that definitely struggled from the pandemic. I was super happy when they reopened back to normal. Favorites- chicken skin, bacon wrapped enoki... can't go wrong with ANYTHING here. They're super hole in the wall, kinda hidden behind a 7/11, but immaculate vibes, amazing food, and good service.

The food and service is excellent!

Parking is difficult, however once in the restaurant, it is not a disappointment. Food is exceptional. Price is high, but worth it. Service was good, helpful waiter and waitress. Took empty plates away quickly. Food always hot, when delivered to the table. Nothing special with the ambiance, but nice.
Be the first to ReplyAbout a 4 1/2 but I'll round to 5 instead of 4 for Torikyu.
We ordered a pretty wide range of food. To start the shabu shabu salad and daikon salads. I really enjoyed both. The shabu shabu salad was one of my favorites and the daikon salad had an ume dressing that was delish! Not knowing what it really was, we tried the "Jawaiian fries" which turned out to be crinkle cut fries with a big scoop of sour cream and Thai sweet chili sauce. A little perplexed on how this is "Jawaiian", we dug in and to our surprise, the combo worked and it was good! For the yakitori (grilled right behind the counter), we tried the beef, shrimp, chicken wings, bacon wrapped enoki, bacon wrapped asparagus, tsukune and scallops. My favorite was the bacon wrapped enoki - super tasty. For the fried skewers, we tried the oyster and tonkatsu - both pretty good. We had the miso soup, which is a hard pass. It was bland and tasted like it was from the cheap packets you get at the grocery store.A must get is the ochazuke. Normally I don't care for this, always thinking it might be bland, but this was really flavorful (more like a soup) and I'd definitely get it again. The agedashi tofu was standard, not bad but not fantastic.Overall the food and service was good. I always like seeing Japanese staff and patrons, it makes me feel like I'm in Japan.Seats at the counter can be warm because of the yakitori grill just behind it. Parking is also tight - just a tiny lot shared with another restaurant. It's probably easiest to find street parking.

I am rating based on the customer service received, and not on the food. So I had called and made a reservation a couple days before, and when we get to the restaurant we get told that we have no reservation. Instead we are immediately directed to the restaurant next door and the male staff member telling us we probably made a mistake and made the reservation there. I show him the number I called (he didn't ask) and he indeed does confirm that the number is for the restaurant next door. We head next door and the person tells us that's not their number, at this point we were pretty upset that we got sent away. So we call the number and we confirm that this number was for the Torikyu at this location. The girl on the phone informed us that we didn't have a reservation but there were extra seating so they could take us in, which was weird because the guy who we spoke to earlier said that they were booked up. We were very upset and did not eat here.I am very disappointed that this happened and will not be returning here. I understand that mistakes happen, but the fact that the male staff member sent us next door after I showed him their number? And him telling us that they are "booked up" while the female staff member I spoke to on the phone said that they have extra seating? This is unbelievable and such a disappointment.

Great service and food but they need to prepare customers about the parking situation.

Off the beaten path of Waikiki, Torikyu sits in a small shopping plaza. This small, unassuming izakaya is full of surprises and made me feel like I was transported back to Japan for the time I was there. The gyoza, karaage, and pork neck were prepared phenomenally and we only had to wait a little for the food to start rolling out from the kitchen. We went at 5pm on a Tuesday in 2021 which is pretty early and had the whole restaurant to ourselves. While it's a bit of a drive/ride to get there, this place is well worth the stop!Best thing on the menu:Pork Neck with yuzukoshoSimple things done well, complimented the gyozaAmbiance - Small izakaya with a slight beach vibe; included bar/counter spots and small tables/booths for larger parties separated with partitions
Be the first to ReplyA hidden gem located behind Puck's Alley.
If you're looking for delicious and authentic yakitori, come to Torikyu! We had a Saturday night reservation for a party of 9 (!) and they accommodated us well. They even let us move our tables so we can sit together. I forgot to take pictures because I was too excited to eat!My personal favorites were the bacon-wrapped enoki mushroom, beef tongue, tofu agedashi, and the spicy hot pot with beef intestines! Parking is very limited and it's hard to go in and out so if you don't want to risk getting stuck or not finding parking, you can find street parking or even park across the street at the Hale Mahana apartments.

Our go-to sticks place for date night! Seating is limited so highly recommend making a reservation. We were able to snag a table on a Tuesday by calling the day before. Table seating service. Parking is super limited. They give you a paper menu and you select what you want with a pencil. Foods are grilled to order so there is some wait - but so worth it. 10 sticks, 1 order of fries, beef tongue, salad and 2 beers came out to about $75 before tip.
Be the first to ReplySuuuuuper last minute dinner plan with friends.
Well, no plan at all since we just called the restaurant and asked if they had any spots for the night that could accommodate 5 people. Thank you to the staff who generously offered to fit us in an hour and a half before their next table arrived! We love all of their foods and at a reasonable price and serving for each stick/pupu we got it's definitely a place we'd come again. Highly recommend trying the shiso chicken! Always so tender, well cooked, and savory! Same goes for the beef sticks and my friend's personal favorite - bacon wrapped quail eggs or the bacon wrapped enoki. Careful how much you order initially since it can definitely add up but be surprisingly filling if you don't pay attention to what you're ordering! When you order you can always ask to do a second round if there's time in your reservation slot! Try ordering a couple of things you think you'd like and go back for additional items after ;)

Must try! Went here with some friends and I will definitely be back! We ordered a variety of dishes and everything was delicious. The restaurant is pretty small so highly recommend making reservations. Parking is not the greatest so I recommend just parking in pucks alley to save you from a headache. Plus the restaurant is located a minute away so it's a nice walk to walk off a little bit of dinner We ordered takoyaki, musubis, fried gizzards, chicken meatball, agedashi tofu, menchi katsu, fried oysters, and bacon wrapped enoki. All the food was delicious but I especially loved my mentaiko musubi and the bacon wrapped enoki. When you order, a lot of the dishes you can choose between salt and teriyaki. The food came out relatively quickly and pretty close together so it wasn't like you finished eating one thing and then had to wait for the next dish. Service is a little slower as it seemed like there was only one server. I will definitely be back to try more items. I especially want to try the hotpot!

Some of the BEST yakitori I've ever had! ย They had lots of unique options. My favorites would have to be chicken cartilage, roasted garlic, and chicken skin. I enjoyed everything, but the chicken breast (was too dry). The restaurant is small, so it is hard to come with a big group. You can make a reservation to avoid the rush. Service is great and I would order everything you want at the beginning because they did run out of some items when we tried to reorder at the end of our meal.
Be the first to ReplyVery affordable restaurant in Waikiki.
ย Besides they serve really good Yakitori! In my opinion, the best yakitori was breast chicken with wasabi (because it's my favorite hehe). I wish I could try tomato with rapped by bacon but I was full and ordered so much lolIf you want to enjoy "real Japanese yakitori and eat a lot of food with a good deal, you'd gotta go and enjoy it!

Binchotan yes but didn't taste much of it as I have in the past.Kawa and bonjiri legit. ย Liver cooked too much, I like it medium rare to rare.Rest was on par. ย Yaki onigiri could of benefitted from premium rice.Overall, not bad. ย Been to many yakitori spots that are more Smokey and flavorful.

Pretty much best takitori in da area, not only cause it's flippin ONO, but because they actually have seating available same day, most places are reserve a couple WEEKS in ADVANCE LIKE BRUH NO CAN! COME HERE AND MOUTHGASM ALL OVER DA PLACE!
Be the first to ReplyGreat yakitori spot! So many good izakaya/yakatori places
Great yakitori spot! So many good izakaya/yakatori places on the island and this is definitely one of them. Large menu, great food, and very reasonably priced! Eating in Honolulu can be very expensive and this place has good prices without cutting on good quality food. Highly recommend !!!!

My husband and I went on a date night here last week and I'm glad I stumbled upon this place on yelp. ย I ended up making reservations because I read on another review that it was better if you do. Thank goodness I did because the place became busy 10 minutes after we arrived! Yes, they do check your vaxx card and your ID.We were sat at a bar like counter so we were able to watch the chef make the yakitori.Food came out fairly fast considering it's made to order. ย Our favorite was the deep fried gizzards. My Husband said next time he'll just order that with rice. LoL! The daikon salad was interesting with the sauce which I thought tasted like ume. ย I think it would go great with ponzu sauce. The fried calamari was also really good; tender and the breading was very tasty. The quail eggs were on the sweet side which I really liked too. Be aware that orders come with 1 or 2 sticks.Overall great service. BE PATIENT when it starts to get busy as it's one person delivering food, one on the grill, and one person in the back prepping. They have a small little parking lot which is easy to miss but we just found Street parking.
