The service was good the food took a good 15-20 minutes to come. The flavor of the udon was a bit bland I got the best seller. The sushi was great though which my friend got. I would just recommend getting their rice bowl and sushi if you want stronger flavors. The udon is mid for me. Thanns

The interior is beautiful and the food is amazing. The udon dishes are huge.

Frequent here many times over the years! Food and service is solid and I always find myself wanting to come back. This place has truly made a name for themselves in my heart and as well as others. Come here with friends or a date - you won't regret it! Love the noodle dishes, but don't sleep on the rolls and sashimi.

Great big bowls of udon! It's always kind of entertaining when they bring over the giant udon bowl. That being said, the amount of noodles, broth, and toppings always feels just right. And it's all delicious to boot. I got the beef sukiyaki udon, and it was very satisfying. The space is also quite large, with good seating arrangements for single folks, couples, and large groups of friends.

Tsura Ton Tan is a nice spot to go to if you want to try a variety of udon. It is pricier than the average udon in Manhattan so it wouldn't be a regular spot but it is something that is worth going to on occasion. The staff was very nice and very fast, they were always there when we needed something. The seating was a little tight but not too bad.I had the value Omakase with beef udon on the side , the Omakase was ok but not that great, but the udon was delicious and had me craving more. Next time i will avoid the sushi and go for the udon and apps only.

There's something fun about being served a noodle bowl that's twice the size of your head. I've been here multiple times now and the food is always tasty and fresh. They also have several drink deals, though I would stick to the beer and sake rather than their cocktails - a little too sweet for me.

I've been to Tsuru Ton Tan a few times, and every time, it's been just okay. I like that they have a lot of options and sides so I can almost always find something that I'm craving. I arrived for early dinner and was seated promptly. It wasn't that busy. It was restaurant week, so I ordered the combo while my partner ordered a normal udon and maitake mushrooms. My favorite dish was definitely the mushrooms. I got a spicy pork udon and the sushi combo. The udon was so oily that I couldn't finish it. The sushi was just okay, but some of the pieces didn't taste as fresh as I'd hoped. If you look at the photo, the uni had practically melted. Overall the food wasn't horrible, but unfortunately I didn't feel great after this past trip.

Honestly I've been here a few times now and I like udon but it didn't blow me away. We were seated at fixed seats where we had to sit next to each other as I believe you need a reservation to sit at a table. I got the wagyu udon which was solid but it didn't have a lot of umami flavors to hit the spot. My girl got the sashimi and spicy udon set menu and it was just alright. Honestly my favorite thing was probably the mushroom appetizer that we had. I'm not sure why I don't enjoy it that much however, maybe it's because I remember this place being hyped up over 5-6 years ago and now that I've had it again after all this time I feel like I don't need to come back here again. Service was quick and the hostess was friendly though. Definitely worth trying but not coming back.

Still doesn't disappoint! This used to be one of my favorite restaurants pre-COVID and recently went back this week. I thought the food was perfect for this cold weather and it definitely didn't disappoint. The portion sizes were just as I remembered with bowls the size of our heads. The flavors were still hearty and savory. I went as a group of 4 and we ordered 2 Tsurutontan Deluxes (my fave), 1 spicy tantan, and 1 Wagyu Beef Truffle. The Tsurutontan Deluxe was great! The broth was light but savory with plenty of flavors from the vegetable tempura, beef and egg. I tried a taste of the other soups and thought they were tasty as well the spicy tantan was a thicker, heavier soup with the spice of chili oil. The Wagyu Beef Truffle had a considerable amount of truffle flavor in it was slightly sweeter than the tsurutontan deluxe. In terms of cost, the prices of the udon had gone up $5 from what I remember before COVID. Also, the extra noodles option which used to be free, are now +$3. We also ordered a round of drinks:Lychee Bouquet - DO NOT RECOMMEND. It tasted like a very watered down lychee martini. Osaka Garden - refreshing and light Aki Passion - Totally recommend. It tasted like drinking passion fruit juice. Could barely taste the alcohol Kyoto Breeze - I'd compare this to a jolly rancher vodka. Tokyo Mule - The yuzu was very light. Pretty much a ginger beer vodka.

Had to find a quick lunch place nearby for me and my clients from Asia; happy to have found a noodle place on a cold day; I'd say everything was pretty decent but the udon broth can definitely be hotter (temperature). Toppings were tasty but tempura pieces gotta be a little more crispy. Overall 4 stars.

Food: 2/5Service/Speed: 3/5Price (college student budget): $$Ambiance: Large space, fitting for all occassions.Would return & recommend? 1/5Low rating primarily driven by the food - seriously nothing impressive, with one dish in particularly detracting from the experience. We tried the drinks, apps, sushi, and cold uni udon (which we normally love) - all of which was just simply underwhelming or so-so in quality. Value isn't there for the price here.

Food: 4/5 | Service: 4/5 | Experience: 4/5Came here with a friend on a Thursday night and were lucky to be seated immediately at one of the counter bench seating. This seating is quite cramped, but not too bad for just the 2 of us. We ordered the toro to split, but wouldn't recommend. The fat veins in some areas were quite thick and chewy. The udon bowl was great though - the noodles are fairly well cooked and the portion was great. It was very simple with clear broth, udon noodles, meat, arugula, and onions. Their non alcoholic drinks are good, but they are sugary. I would come again because overall the food was good and the portions are great. What we ordered:* Non-alcoholic mojito* Blue fin toro sashimi* US wagyu beef truffle dashiThings to know: * Off peak hours dinners for small parties usually don't have much wait* Bar seating available* Suited for large parties, but make a res* Pretty large portions

Hostess does not understand the concept of a reservation, and only seats reserved patrons after the walk ins. Then she proceeds to argue with the customer.
Be the first to ReplyThey had very good curry--highly recommend it.
Sushi was mediocre and not worth the price tag in my opinion. The place is a good environment to dine out with friends

My husband and I were visiting NY and dropped into this location. We didn't have reservations but were able to sit at the bar. The food was outstanding. I ordered the salmon lovers meal and the salmon was mouth watering. The noodle I got, I added the curry to and they were amazing. Cant wait to find another or go back. YUMMY

We came in for dinner and ordered a variety of food, the beef udon, sashimi, sushi rolls and wagyu donburi. Based on the mostly wonderful reviews my expectations were perhaps too high and I found the food to be good but not that great. The sashimi and sushi were very fresh. The flavor in the cooked food was just not that great in my opinion. My friend is a regular here and loves it and she told me that the food was as great as usual so perhaps they had a bad night. We loved our lychee martinis. I'll need to try this place again and see if I'm blown away by the food and this was indeed an off night.
Be the first to ReplyLove the atmosphere and decor.
Very trendy and upbeat. The food was very good and for the most part seemed reasonably priced. I will say the $8 cucumber salad was a bit small though.
Be the first to ReplyBetter than the location in Midtown.
Like it better than Raku so I'm an outlier.I was debating to give it a 4 stars cause the host tried to seat us at the bar saying it's a half hour wait but then sat us in 10. (But I forgave due to the food and service.)They've cut down on their menu since I first tried their food 3 years ago. My go-to's are Spicy TanTan udon and salmon carpaccio. Instead of the carpaccio, they have the seared salmon which tasted delicious too. They don't let you choose noodle type and bowl size anymore but it doesn't matter to me since I always go with the default options. Not something to eat everyday but great once in awhile.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious, flavorful, you're in for a slurpy time.
It might've been the second time I got Dan Dan noodles that week but I made it and it was delicious and worth it.
Be the first to ReplyHonestly, the udon was a let-down.
I got the truffle snow crab udon, and while it was tasty, the actual udon noodles were disappointing. They felt like they were overcooked. They were really soft and didn't have that chewiness and bounce that made great udon noodles great. If you can't get the udon noodles right at an udon house, something is wrong. I also ordered a tuna roll, which was surprisingly delicious. The fish tasted really fresh. I enjoyed the roll more than the udon. Overall, I would give 3.5 stars if I could.
Be the first to ReplyI have mixed feelings about this place.
Maybe my hopes were too high from the rave reviews? This place was on my list and I've heard great things. I will say, it's a great deal for the sushi set combos. The combos come with a small udon, a roll, and sushi. Everything can also be upgraded. I opted for the deluxe sushi, the shrimp and crab roll, and uni udon. I felt the sushi was subpar and could have been a little more fresh. I was super excited for the uni udon. However, it was difficult to get through. I knew it was a cream udon, but it ended up being overwhelmingly creamy and salty. It felt wasteful given it was an upgraded item. When it came time to pay, we noticed an extra charge for one of the combos. When we brought it to our waitress' attention, she didn't really give us a reason why which we thought was kind of strange. Overall, the food is decent. If you're looking for a good value meal, this could be an option.

I love Tsurotontan, specifically the union Sq location, and I'd been wanting to try this location since I work closer to this one, but my takeout experience was absolutely hellish. I ordered at 11:45, for a 1:15 pickup. So they had all this time to prepare, and I got there at 12:50pm but the host said 10-15 minute. Sure, I'm early for my scheduled pickup time, so I understand. But it isn't until 1:50pm I finally get my food. Someone else before me had also been waiting for nearly an hour too, and multiple delivery workers were congregated in the tiny waiting corner. I was supposed to be getting back to work, and there was total disregard of people's time. I ended up an hour late back to my office, I probably would've finished sooner if I sat there and ate (I watched as people who came in after me were sat and started eating ages before I got my own food). The host was no help at all, not apologetic nor gave any explanation or time updates. If I knew it was going to take an hour, I would've gone back to work and come back. I was infuriated, but when someone else had complained, all they said was that it wasn't their fault, it was the "people in the back". I didn't want to take it out on anyone who wasn't to blame, but as I finally walked out, I just wanted to cry at how awful their treatment felt. Never going to this location again. Also, the food wasn't even that good. The udon was okay, simple but tasty, but the sushi was bland, rice wasn't seasoned enough, and they included fillers like cucumber in their spicy scallop roll, which was not stipulated on the menu, which made it just take like cucumber. If they wanted to be stingy, they could've just turned it into a makizushi roll (nori outside), at least it would've still tasted good. Sticking to Yama Ramen next door for my Japanese cravings.

Crab truffle udon- sauce is not too thick so I liked it the most. Wagyu beef udon- average. Shrimp tempura udon- just the basic but mainly fried veggies and 2 shrimps

While I am not an udon person, the aesthetic beauty of the restaurant makes it a choice destination for a meal around the Union Square area. Ever since Republic closed its doors back in the day, USQ feels a bit empty in its diversity of restaurants until Tsurutontan came along. Slightly hidden away from Union Square Plaza, it fills the void left by Republic with an robust menu that's very reminiscent of the Sapporo East and other Izakaya spots no longer around these days. My go to is the Tsurutontan Deluxe, end of story. Wouldn't say any one item stands out, but the staff is really great, while cleanliness and convenience can't be under estimated.
