Extremely rude manager
Assumed I was pregnant and completely embarrassed me without an apology. Food was subpar, but service was terrible. Completely hyped for some reason. Still think about how embarrassed I was in front of my future mother in law because of his horrible comment

Consistently good. Even as takeout. Better than most Turkish places in Manhattan. Grilled chicken shish kabob is good.
Be the first to ReplyGourmet food and wine experience outside in NYC
An amazing experience start to finish. We were treated to an education in Turkish wine and food. We had lots of questions about the red chilies that were served as a garnish for the red lentil soup. Our host offered a thorough explanation of Turkish wine. As a result the wine we chose was perfect for our palate. When I ordered the okra with lamb, our host ensured I was familiar with okra. The eggplant wrapped lamb shank was to die for. We really appreciated the gourmet service even though we sat outside. Thank you very much.

So glad a neighborhood favorite has a lovely set up for outdoor dining.
Same great menu selection, delicious food and service.
We were pleasantly surprised with the 20% discount!
Mouth watering and so delicious !
Come to think about it, I should have reviewed this wonderful restaurant quite
a while ago. Maybe because itโs in my neighborhood and an easy walk in,
my tendency was to dismiss it as a low priority or a nice place for
lunch. It wasnโt until two days ago that I opted for dinner there, together
with a few friends.
Wow! The place comes alive and the gentleman man who seems to be the owner or its manager greets me at the door, as he always does, โHello Sir, I always see you for lunch. This time, for dinner? How are you?โ
I never know what to answer. I smile and enter this modern, spacy room
On Third Avenue, always wondering why it is a few steps down from the sidewalk.
No no no, itโs not a basement. Just a lowered floor.
My knowledge of Turkish dishes, its cuisine is minimal and largely derives from eating
In small town Germany and it was never on my priority list till I bumped into the
Turkish Kitchen.
Yes, of course there is Nusr-Et (yet to be written about by me) but here things
are simple and straight forward, there is no salt throwing or steak pyrotechnics.
Unlike the show or showcase of a Pirandello play, here things really are what theyโre meant to
Be. No improvisation, no guises or disguises, itโs all incredibly tasty and amazingly affordable.
Hmmm, itโs 2am in the frigid New York night and I canโt wait to finish writing this and open the fridge so I can dig my teeth into the leftovers Tavuklu Adena Kebab and a few spare crumbs of a delicious appetizer called Sigara Boregi.
Congratulations Turkish Kitchen. You have won over my heart and pallet

Dinner with Parents
Cool atmosphere. Probably was the only American in there which means it's good and authentic. My roommate's grandma use to come here 20 years ago and loved it. Very solid food with tons of options. I thought the apps were better than entrees but the lamb was great. Kinda skimp you on alcohol which is always annoying. Def would go back.

My party of three ate here on a drizzly Fiday evening. The service was good and some of the food was outstanding. The zucchini appetizer was fresh, crisp and hot with a nice sauce. The combination platter with 4 different dishes was good. The best part of the meal was the lamb. One dish had lamb chuncks on top of eggplant puree - Hunkar Begendi. It was outstanding. As with so many restaurants, the wine by the glass is pricey. The tables are close together so I was glad we had a few empty tables around us. The restaurant has a small bar in front and several young people were there. It looks like a gathering place for a drink after work, and lots of local residents eating dinner. I look forward to returning.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food. Easy ambiance. Nice setting. Excellent service
We had a great meal at Turkish Kitchen for a recent celebration.
The eggplant puree appetizer with tomato sauce on it was a hit with the group, as was the Cacik. The calamari was OK and not a draw to the taste buds.
We all enjoyed our main courses. I had a lamb sis (shish kebab) that was delicious. They were amenable to doubling my vegetable portion to make up for my not wanting rice. Others who had that dish also loved it. A few people had the whole fish (sea bass I believe) and loved it.
The desserts were OK. Rice pudding a little too sweet. The apple tea was more like warm apple cider.
Service was obliging and easy going. Our main server was responsive and not intrusive. It took a while for all of us to show up and to order. The server went along with that. The restaurant was filled after a while and they did not even gently ask us to finish up and leave even after three hours. That makes Turkish Kitchen a great place for celebrations and for good evening among friends. They also did not push us to buy drinks, which I have found to be a pattern at other Turkish places. This relaxed service is such a contrast to so many restaurants.
Our bill came to under $600 for ten people with 5 appetizers, 10 entrees, 3 desserts, about 5 coffees/teas, a bottle of wine and two glasses of wine. Not bad for a special evening.
Please note when making reservations there is no answering machine if you call before the start of service at 5 p.m.
We highly recommend Turkish kitchen.
