U Omakase Brooklyn Reviews from The Last Year

U Omakase is a hidden gem!! The omakase was fantastic, it had classics and some more unique dishes as well - all were executed perfectly! My favorites were the crab, the clam soup, all the fired sashimi pieces, and the crispy crab and shrimp dishes. Everything was also beautifully plated, and had more attention to detail than I've seen at multi-Michelin star places! This is also one of the few places I've been to in the U.S. that had the essence of sushi you'd find in Japan. The chef + staff were so attentive and fun to talk with, and overall all the vibe was classy but fun and not uptight. They provide free flowing house sake and it's BYOB too :)
This was my second time coming to U omakase and the staff
This was my second time coming to U omakase and the staff here is always so sweet. The food is great and you can tell that the fish is fresh. Each dish was delicious and plated beautifully. There were 5 birthday celebrations this past weekend and Chef Louis made sure that we all felt special with a cake and a shot of nice whiskey, which was really sweet. In terms of the vibe, the space is intimate and I love the middle bar table that allows you to see everyone dining. Right next to the dining area is the open kitchen concept and you can watch the chefs cook and plate. I highly recommend U Omakase to anyone that loves sushi and Japanese tapas.
Really enjoyed my experience at U Omakase.
We went for date night Friday night and managed to grab a 6pm seating. The staff was friendly and kept the sake pouring. We had brought a bottle of wine which they kept cold and made sure we were always topped off. The food was amazing and presented so beautifully. It felt like each piece was a work of art. The chef's tasting menu was just the perfect amount of food. We can't wait to come back.

A spectacular meal: innovative, fresh, excellent sense of flavor combinations and textures, wowie. Luis has game. It's one of those old-school vibes--you remember, the kind of fine dining where they care about their customers? And also keep to their own standards? The staff was super too, btw. We'll be back. Thanks for the reccie, Em.

Seems a bit hole in the wall-ish since it's covered in drapes and has exposed brick/scaffolding inside. I liked the seating situation a lot. It is BYOB and they will kindly chill your drinks for you. Staff were all very kind. Just wish they gave advice on how to eat (in what order, versus with hands or chopsticks) prior to eating dishes. They would tell us after we did it in the "wrong way" I guess. I would joke that I was being bullied for this. Food was delicious, but I did feel it was heavy on the salt at times. Pretty good omakase imo.
Overall: relaxed atmosphere, exquisite dishes, smooth
Overall: relaxed atmosphere, exquisite dishes, smooth service, and did I mention- EXQUISITE dishes. Probably one of the best omakase experiences I've had in New York City. The ingredients were varied and fresh, especially given that they were seasonal. The flavors were rich, fun and rounded, sometimes hearty and sometimes pure. And the menu design was thoughtfully balanced, leaving you full but also wanting more. What stood out to me was how almost every dish had just the right amount of a much welcomed twist, despite being grounded in traditional omakase. Whether it was the soup or the sushi, the courses did not shy away from layering in a variety of textures, tastes and techniques, many of which surprised me. For instance, the buttery flavor in the soup, the crunchy texture of the chili and fried shallots on the salmon, or even the warmth of the shoyu on top on the sushi. (And if I even remotely think about the foam-topped lobster bisque that probably married flavors from god's garden, I'll probably go bankrupt.) As I was eating, each new found detail was a gift unwrapping itself in the dish for some flourishes beyond just completion, to much of my delight. This fusion-like approach, while very different from traditional omakase, was a refreshing experience, definitely one to remember. Bonus point: they introduced every staff and every chef involved in the beginning, (even our guy in the back doing dishes! Real MVP), a small team that seems to have care and respect for one another. What can be improved upon: more space for coats and handbags, print out the daily menu (PLEASE)

One of the best meals I've had in 2023! Every dish was sensational. Amazing staff and great atmosphere. Highly recommend!
I came here on a whim since I'm looking for a local
I came here on a whim since I'm looking for a local Brooklyn spot with high quality fish and good flavors. This place has a chill vibe and they have unlimited sale with your meal which is definitely a plus. I got there a bit late due to parking mishaps. So I got everything but the oyster and nothing was given to replace that one dish. The owners are super nice and are on top of the game and customer service . The highlights of the meal were the toro, wagyu, scallop and blue fin scoop. Some of the pieces had too much wasabi for me and one dish had too much finishing salt. But I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The dessert at the end really hit the spot and was a nice touch. I think I found the fresh sushi spot and I will return again to see Chef Yasu. One thing to note this is not your standard omakase with a sushi bar in front of a chef and mostly pieces, but this is a great chefs choice nonetheless.
Came out for a friend's 40th for a special dinner
Came out for a friend's 40th for a special dinner experience. Each dish was unique and delicious, the chef was very accommodating of food restrictions and our server was on top of everything, my glass was never empty :). On top of it all, I love that the outside is quite plain (you almost feel like you're at the wrong place) and then you enter into a little oasis. Absolutely coming back.
As much as I'd love to keep this place a secret so I can
As much as I'd love to keep this place a secret so I can have a better chance of securing reservations, U Omakase is just too wonderful to gatekeep. The food is beautiful, adventurous, and delicious. They were experimenting with an octopus/olive dish while we were there and, as someone who usually despises olives, it was one of the tastiest bites of food I've ever had. We literally licked our plates. In addition to the quality and caliber of the food, what takes the U Omakase dining experience to an entirely new dimension is the staff. They are beyond delightful. It's a playful, personal, and approachable meal where it genuinely feels like a private party. This isn't a stuffy atmosphere, it's meant to feel like a family gathering. I went for my first time on Wednesday and immediately booked another spot on Sunday. For the price, the food, and the service, I just can't recommend this place and these folks enough.
