Uchi Austin Reviews from The Last Year
I love Uchi- period.
However, we typically always go to the Houston location and we haven't been to this here in a long time. It was still good, but... Houston location is better. We ordered: -kinoko nabe- crispy rice with a bunch of different mushrooms. I've had this numerous times but this was super salty(the chef tasted and agreed). Also the ones I've had in the past has the rice cooking to get crispy but the lady you brought it out said- leave it alone for a couple of minutes to get crispy- then immediately starts mixing it! I'm guess the rice really was just put in and it was already made crispy. madai or Japanese Sea Bream is my all time favorite. I've never had it with salt flakes- not a fan- once you picked them off, it was fine. We started with an order of 8 pieces because we are pigs and 6 pieces of the Sake(salmon) lightly sauced with soy-yummy -Akamai, tuna- it was good but a little chewy Madai- it's on the list again because we ordered 6 more pieces with out the salt flakes- it was soooo plain- like the forgot an ingredient like no sauce at all nasu (eggplant), yummy as remembered gyutoro, waygu nigiri- husband swooned Hama chili, as expected Karaage, pork belly, shishito peppers/ not sure I'd spend the money on these 3- husband did say the pork belly was tender but nothing life changing here. The waiter was ok-he never brought my hot tea- oh well- completely ran out of water in the pitcher- and yes, it was a special occasion- our 30th anniversary he didn't ask. I guess the wine was ok but never was asked whether we wanted another. I would have gotten a cocktail as well but was not meant to be. $320's with a 20% tip- I think we could have done better sadly. They do have seating outside but it is hotter than hellfire- be sure to get reservations as we were seated immediately.

We had the most gorgeous 10 course omakase on a random Monday night. The restaurant had a romantic but fun ambiance with the lowered lighting and varying height tables. Every course was unique and distinctive but cohesive with every other course. The drinks were bright and refreshing and the service tied everything together perfectly. We felt involved and aware of every plate even though each one was a (delightful!) surprise. I'm so ready to come back for another meal here.
The food was beyond amazing.
The ambiance was nice. The service was also very good and the server was always recommending the best dishes.

I've wanted to try Uchi for a long time, but have been deterred because many of my Austinite friends have said it's overrated. Well, they were very wrong and we might not be friends anymore since they robbed me of this amazing dining experience for so long! Fine, I don't hate them forever, but I am mad I didn't try Uchi sooner. I'll definitely be back to try happy hour. I was alone, so I sat at the sushi bar. It was such a cool experience. Not only was the curated tasting phenomenal, but I was so entertained by the chefs' seamless cooperation and teamwork. They didn't even discuss their seemingly choreographed dance to create delicious dishes for the entire restaurant, all while choosing the perfect dishes for their assigned sushi counter patrons. Every single course was beautifully prepared and tasted amazing. I can't wait to go back for Happy Hour and with friends so we can try even more of their ever-changing menu. It was $130 for my curated tasting of about 12 courses (I didn't count because I was enjoying the food so much). That's actually not terribly expensive for a tasting menu with such high grade seafood. Check it out if you can!

Uchi Austin is a beautiful restaurant with a trendy vibe, perfect for a fancy night out. Everyone raved about it, so I took my family for a special occasion. While the ambiance is undeniably cool, be prepared for a lighter-than-expected meal. Uchi's portions are on the smaller side, so don't head there starving. The good news? The sashimi is fantastic - incredibly fresh and flavorful. It's a fantastic choice for a memorable dining experience with amazing food.
This restaurant was highly recommended by my coworker.
She lives out in Houston and she said it originated out in Austin so I made sure that I had to try it. There's lots of amazing food and reservations are hard to come by and it was great to see how busy it was. Luckily we had reservations. We almost didn't make it in time with a buffer. Luckily they have complementary valet here. There's the awesome spot and we ordered a lot of different things to share. Everything was about six pieces or so and we got a good variety of different sushi and different dishes that we are able to try. There were too many delicious things we couldn't narrow down and that means we need to come back. The team here was wonderful and is definitely a great meal to start off my trip here in Austin. Everything was amazing and I can't wait to come back here the next time I'm in town.
Nation level of fish quality.
Everything was good. Uni and Otoro in particular were great. Highly recommend. Be prepared to pay $150-200 per person. One star removed because everything takes a long time to come out. Even if you sit at the sushi counter, you have to be very very patient. Feels like there's too little sushi chefs to keep up with all the orders during busy times.

We went specifically for omakase and were hoping for a special chef curated experience for the money we were spending. Instead, it felt like we received a 10 course price fixed meal. We were seated at the far end of a very loud and crowded dining room and served by at least four wait staff, one of whom couldn't wait to throw the next plate on the table. The food itself was underwhelming. Two of the dishes were great. The other eight were just fine. Ultimately, the restaurant felt sceny and vapid. We had a disappointing experience and wished we had gone somewhere else.

Exceptional service, gluten free (Celiac) friendly, amazing dishes. Have never had a bad meal here or at any of the Uchi sister restaurants. Highly recommend their happy hour menu and deals.
Austin institution, that maintains top notch food and service!
Uchi has great creative sushi and top level team service. You have your own waiter, but they all work as a team to clear your plates, etc. and ensure a wonderful experience. As a former waiter it was impressive, and seemed authentic too. Ambiance is a bit noisy but the noise then does ironically create some privacy. We’re always happy with our visits and despite being a long standing Austin institution, the quality in food and service is still definitely there.

Didn't have reservations but they kindly sat us at the bar where we enjoyed a good bartender with great recommendations that did not disappoint.
Stupid Good!!
Stupid good. I am not a sushi person however I wanted to lean in and try something new. WOW. I was so impressed with the service and the flavors! I tried the pork belly (insert chef’s kiss!) and the wagyu! Would DEFINITELY go back!
Sushi with mayo
Overall, my experience at Uchi restaurant was mixed. The ambiance and service were commendable, with a waiter who tried to accommodate my preferences despite the unavailability of certain items like the Asian plum vine. However, the substitution with sake felt mismatched, and the absence of soy sauce with the sushi was unexpected. The classic unagi dish was disappointingly dry, reminiscent of being baked rather than the expected succulence. While the restaurant's contemporary twist may appeal to some, particularly those fond of sushi with mayonnaise, it fell short of delivering a truly traditional asian dining experience.

This place is always so fun! I loved the small samples of everything. The nigiri pieces were definitely better than their rolls. My personal favorites of the night were the foie gras, gyutoro and salmon nigiri. The hamachi sashimi dish was a bit too salty for my taste. Enjoyed cooking wagyu on the hot stone. The olive oil cake was very interesting. You can taste orange in it. I liked the pistachio ice cream that it was served with. My favorite dessert surprisingly was the honey toast. It was so buttery and creamy, would definitely recommend it if you're a fan of cashew butter like me. Our waitress was so sweet and made great recommendations! She was also very patient with us since we were very indecisive. We sat outside, it was a bit chilly but they had outdoor heating. Very beautiful and unique ambiance.

Great customer service, food was amazing, not a dish that we didn't like. It was expensive, but HH is the best way to experience this out of the world food Everything was fresh and delicious. We ordered Omakase HH Tasting (chef's choice)... it comes with 8 different dishes. Additionally we ordered Wagyu Carpaccio, Gyutoro (Australian Wagyu), Hot Rock Wagyu Beef, ponzu cooked on a Hot Stone,
10/10.
I've been to some of the best spots in Austin, this place tops them all. Location, vibe, food. Must go to spot for dinner. Eberly is also a 2 min walk away to pregame.
Happy hour everyday 4-6p - yes please.
I am not sure what's not to love about Uchi. Is it super expensive? Yes, it is. Happy hour is sooo worth it. This is a special spot with incredible service, impeccable food and next level ambiance. I once showed up once with two extra people in my 5 person reservation and what did they do? They asked me to give them 15 minutes to re-arrange some things and I said no problem! I get it, I showed up with extra folks and it's not super easy to get last minute reservations. We hung out in their wait area and got some drinks. They proceeded to send us complimentary apps for making us wait, like what? What a classy, classy move. And we were able to get seated. Zero issues. Not sure if there's another sushi/omakase spot in the Austin area that is "affordable" - There are other affordable, quick sushi places but not like Uchi. I've been to Uchi Denver as well, but we will save this for a different review.

Sitting at the bar, it was fun to see the dishes prepared, however, it made for a more busy and hectic eating experience than I see described by other reviewers. We came to celebrate a birthday and they were kind in providing a card and being welcoming and celebratory. We ordered four dishes, all were creatively combined and none were disappointing. The standout was the Machi Cure, due to the beautiful presentation and combination of flavors, including yucca chips, almonds, pear and yellowtail. The Hama Chili had a tasty sauce, but the fish itself did not stand out. The Walu Walu was a heftier portion of fish, making for a more filling dish - but was not our favorite. Brussel sprouts we felt had a bit too much sauce and would have been better left just a little simpler. Another standout not to leave without was the Chocolate Candy Bar, whose ingredients speak for themselves. Overall, Uchi serves up on beautifully prepared dishes, all with a creative combination of flavors, some of which come together better than others.

What an excellent restaurant! We were a party of two: I wanted the omakase, and my friend wanted a few specific dishes. Although the omakase is normally for two people, the chef was more than happy two cut the portions in half as much as he was able to, and coordinate the timings of the other dishes with the omakase plates. Everything we tried was wonderful, it is hard to even pick highlights because each dish was unique and delicious in its own way. Additionally, the service was impeccable. We had reserved a table outside, but instead opted for two seats at the sushi bar due to weather. Although the restaurant was extremely busy, both our chef and our server were extremely attentive. Our plates were cleared promptly after finishing, and we never had to wait more than a minute or two between dishes. Additionally, even while doing his prep work, it was easy to ask our chef questions about dishes or order more. Overall, if you're looking for high-quality sushi, you can't go wrong with Uchi

Beautiful little place!! My boyfriend and I wanted to splurge on a nice dinner for our four year anniversary. We chose Uchi and we both got the Omakase. SO GOOD!! We had an incredible night, and the service was incredible (thanks to our lovely server, Cass and everyone else there).

A seat at the bar, if you're not with a crowd, is a very pleasant experience with helpful and friendly staff as well as friendly fellow patrons. The selections are very tasty. A standout was the Machi Cure which was a pairing of smoke yellowtail, Yuka pear and what taste like caviar. Each taste managed to stand out. And if you like chocolate at all, the candy bar dessert is not to be missed. It's a special but accessible restaurant. I plan to return.
Best Sushi experience ever.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
