Visited this as a part of NYC Winter Restaurant Week 2023.
Three course meal for $60 plus taxes.

Nice place but service is certainly below Michelin star level and doesn't deserve a star

We went for Vestry's restaurant week and were extremely pleased with the value we got in our meal. 60$ for a michelin star 3-course meal - mind you most of the entrees on the normal menu are approaching 60 dollars! The quality and portions of the restaurant week menu were equal to the quality and portions from the normal menu. We felt like this was a restaurant week steal and could almost imagine coming back to pay full price... it was THAT good. appetizers: Complementary bread with the most interesting butterscallops (extremely good dish, creamy, luscious and citrusy- it's a MUST order)risotto (This was good, interesting flavor, but would not get again. After the first bite the thrill is over)Dinner:Cod (This was like an up-scale riff on fish and chips (no chips really) but very good, and would order again)Chicken (Cooked sous vide to perfection, GREAT flavors and some interesting fattier meat on the side that was exceptional. Would order again)DessertChocolate Mousse (Don't let the citrus and orange turn you away.. this was like a really complex truffle in mousse form. Would ABSOLUTELY order again. Only complaint is that it is very small.)Cheesecake (Very fun dish, you can see the photos of the mouse and the cheesecake in other reviews, not a traditional cheesecake texture, and crustless. Texture is much more like a thick pudding with cheesecake flavor and hint of almond extract, bf loved it and would order again)

This is a Michelin star restaurant and it had the service and food quality to prove it.The complimentary coat check was essential for the winter and the chairs had a cozy fuzzy throw over them. The service was top notch. They even folded my napkin when I stepped out and cleaned off our table after every course. We went during restaurant week and got a round of apps, mains, and dessert. The risotto was delicious but the scallops were really phenomenal. The Waygu beef was exceptional and the flavors surrounding it paired nicely. The local cod fish was very good but had an interesting flavor that's not for everyone. The cheesecake dessert was so fun and more gimmicky than I expected from this restaurant but it tasted delicious! The cheesecake was very rich and it was paired with a mouse shaped honey crisp apple. The chocolate mousse with passion fruit was my favorite. Even the chocolate decorative piece was decadent.

Vestry need more training on service, three different people asked me what to drink, but nobody filled water for our table.Food was NOT ok, I had diarrhea right after the dinner. Disappointed experience, I didn't know how it could be Michelin star restaurant
Be the first to ReplyUsed to be one of our favorite places.
Not anymore. Went there for NYE dinner. Made reservations and it said nothing about it being Prixe Fix, which is our bad. We should have known. While it's a matter of taste, the four course menu had noting that appealed to us. The black truffle add on for $50 would normally be ok, but it was very low quality. The server picked it up with her bare hands (no white gloves) to shave it on our plate. Really odd. Some of the party at everything, but didn't really care for it at all. And the price, as can be expected was high. Also, for a fine dining establishment, they don't seem to have a dress code, so it doesn't feel quite as it was likely intended. Sneakers and sweatshirts in a 1 Michelin restaurant? This will likely be our last time here.

I was excited to try this Michelin star restaurant, heard a lot of good things from my colleagues. Seating was tight, but the furs on the seats were a nice touch to keep them warm. They also had some outdoor seating if you prefer that with heaters. In the middle of the meal they raised the lights and turned off the music which was a little bit weird, it looked like someone was trying to wipe down some of the glass on the second floor or something. Ruined a bit of the ambiance during the meal as people commented. That and the service constantly reaching over and around people at intermittent moments to pick up things it was a little strange and also an interruption. It would have been better timed had they done it all at once instead of piecemeal at the table.Drinks came quickly enough and they have a few of their own custom drinks. The Vestry looked good, but I was driving so none for me. The lady serving wine didn't even bother telling me what it was, only asked red or white, which I wish a little more effort to instruct would have been informative. The bread was good, although the butter was a little weird, not sure what kind of spices that made it sort of dark and mustard seed patterned. We had a pre fixe menu since we had 11 people. I went with choices that I would not normally make myself or could find it other restaurants. Which is why I didn't get sushi like dishes for the most part, those are safer but easier to get at other spots.Maitake mushrooms with barley had a wonderful consomme and I wish there was a better balance of mushrooms because it felt like it was mostly barley and squash. Pretty good size serving. My colleagues shated their dishes, too, I had a bite of the big eye tuna which was a good tartare with sesame cracker, and the bite of chu toro was solid but not really flashy and something I felt like I could get elsewhere. Wish they didn't use tuna since I feel like that is endangered. For my second course I chose the sushi rice which I had heard so much about, it was brilliant, for the first two bites. Then it was simply overwhelming and a lot of sour and acidic flavor, which overwhelmed in the middle after the second bite all through to the end. Almost tasted like sour mayo at the end. This dish would be much better with a much smaller quantity (just three bites would be good) or less acidity which would then build to the total acidity at the end instead of after two bites and going max throughout. I also had a bite of the hamachi rose which was wonderfully balanced between the pear and the fish, probably one of the best dishes of the night. For the main course I had the cod which was cooked really well, super flaky, but almost no other flavor to it which was weird. At the same time I saw the waygu beef was way too overcooked so I guess I'm glad I went with the bland cod. Some people even left multiple pieces on their plate of the waygu. I think the coriander sauce was something I just didn't enjoy on the cod, but I'm also not a fan of cilantro. For dessert I had the orange, which had a satsuma orange and blood orange, but was far too sour to enjoy more than one bite of the panna cotta. I'd expected something creamier and smoother, sweeter really. Overall found many of the dishes underwhelming or overwhelming, not really well balanced or improperly portioned. To some extent I had expected to have really small dishes given that it was French inspired, so I did walk out full which was a good thing, but it was a difficult meal to enjoy. They did give everyone a small box of truffles to take home.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant is beautiful with very good food and service.
I write few reviews but decided to write about this place for two reasons--and many readers will probably disagree with both of them.First, as a main course I had wagyu beef with whipped potatoes. It was very good, very expensive, and very small. In fact, it was the smallest main course I can remember; but to me, it was just the right size. I suspect that most would disagree.Second, was the "butter" that came with the bread. It was unusual, to say the least. I think they said that soy sauce and seaweed were two of the ingredients. In butter?I hated it, and I'm sure at least some would agree. That means the restaurant should have had "regular" butter on reserve. They did, but it was hard as a rock. That's why I give Vestry four stars instead of five. They seem to be smart people, so if they read this, I bet they'll have regular, spreadable butter in the future. You're welcome.
Be the first to ReplyVestry is the Michelin-starred restaurant in the Dominick
Vestry is the Michelin-starred restaurant in the Dominick Hotel. While some of the dishes are quite good and very creative, on the whole the experience is a bit of a letdown. The service is just ok. The cocktails do not meet expectations and some of the food arrived cold. While the chef is good, poor management will be hard to make it a long term winner.
Be the first to ReplyFood: good.
Service: horrific. Please note that my wife and I looked forward to dining at the Vestry, a one-star Michelin restaurant. We stayed at the Dominick, were dressed appropriately and had a good attitude. Also, outside of our server, everyone else at the restaurant were pleasant and professional. We were seated and waited 10 minutes for the server to come to the table. He already looked annoyed, as if we represented additional work for him. All he said was 'Are you ready to order'? We ordered cocktails. All food and drinks were delivered by someone else. After 20 minutes, the server returned with 'Are you ready to order"? No pleasantries, no specials, no recommendations, just an obvious bad attitude. The entrees were delivered after another 20 minutes and were not hot. I'm okay if one entrée is cold, but in this case, both were not hot. I think it's reasonable to request reheating cold food, especially $100+ worth of cold food. We asked to see the server. 10 minutes later, the server came to the table, with a 'what's the problem now' look on his face. We told him the food was cold. He proceeded to feel the underside of the dishes and pronounced - 'they are still hot'. We disagreed and asked him to have them reheated. He grabbed the plates and stormed off.We did not see the server again, until we walked out of the restaurant. My wife walking ahead of me, walked pass the server, who physically bumped into her (leaving a bruise on her arm). I walked up to this confrontation with the server yelling - 'She assaulted me!'. I said - are you nuts? A 130-pound woman in her 60's assaulted you? Management came and escorted the angry server away. I will give credit to the management as they handled this well. They comped us the cost of the entrees and offered to buy us desert/drinks, which we refused. Hotel security contacted us and said they would follow up with an investigation - even though they are not directly affiliated with the Vestry. The primary issue is that this server has no business working at a one-star Michelin restaurant. Reading through previous reviews, there are recurring complaints regarding terrible service - I assume our server was the primary cause. This is a management issue that they let this go on. Why let an employee with obvious anger issues and zero people skills continue to work for and represent your establishment. I don't know the answer. Maybe it's a union issue. Meanwhile I would recommend avoiding this restaurant at all costs, until they get their act together.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent.
We shared just about everything on the menu between 6 of us and it was all superb.Service and atmosphere were were perfect. We were not rushed and really enjoyed a great evening.
Be the first to ReplyCame here on a Tuesday night and the place wasn't too busy.
The ambiance is nice and modern, and we were seated quickly. The complementary bread was amazing and a generous amount for the three of us. As many other reviews mention, the flavored butter is also very tasty. We started with two of the bites, the big eye tuna and the nori chips. These were both delicious, and the big eye tuna was on a very cute fish-shaped crisp. We also shared some small plates and the cod: Tuna Toast - this was one of our favorites! The pieces of toast are flavorful and the tuna comes next to the toast like a spread. Crudo - First of all, I'm forgetting the full name of the dish since it isn't on their online menu, but this dish was light, citrusy and tasty! I personally love anything citrus-y and it had a significant lemony zing to it:) Cod - The cod was good, but very rich. A couple bites and we felt full! It also came with a puree on the side which was light and complemented the fish really well. Cheesecake - I had seen so many pictures of the cute cheesecake with a "mouse" on the side, so we had to try it for ourselves. It didn't disappoint, and the apple on the side paired really well with this unique dessert! Overall, we had a great experience. The service did take a bit longer like other reviews mention, but not very noticably for us. This wasn't an issue too given there were several courses and we weren't in any rush. Was hoping the maitake mushroom would be on the menu as it seems to be a favorite, but I'll just have to come back for it next time!

I'll start by saying that the food here is excellent and the presentation is fantastic. I recommend you get the cheesecake if you want something adorable to snap pics of. The tuna toast was the savory star of the meal. The only thing I didn't care for was the scallop sushi special. It was fine, just kind of missed the mark for me.I have to say, the staff were a little overbearing, but when it came to explaining what the courses were or how they worked, they just left us to figure it out... which is weird considering how accommodating they were of other tables. We also had some cocktails and unfortunately, none of them were very good. I found them a bit overly sweet and my wife had the opposite problem. If I were to go back, I'd avoid these. I actually probably wouldn't have bothered getting the second one, but the staff were kind of persistent and practically forced a drinks menu onto me after I repeatedly declined. The other gripe I have is with the menu, which needs some serious revision, just in terms of how the information is presented. For instance, there's a dessert called 'Naval Orange' and the only description given is 'Satsuma Orange, Blood Orange', which makes it sound like the dessert consists of just three different kinds of orange. There's also nothing in the description of the main courses that made them sound exciting or interesting, or nearly as delicious as they actually were. The Halibut for instance is described as 'halibut, green garbanzo beans, young ginger'. That doesn't exactly inspire or excite the reader, but it should. It was incredible and it also came with a delicious butternut squash puree that deserved a mention in the menu. These are minor quibbles, weirdly off-things that are highlighted by the incredibly high quality of food they serve. I would love to go back and try more of what they had to offer.
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambiance and service.
They are a seafood-specialty restaurant tucked underneath the Dominick Hotel. The mains sounded really bland on the menu but they were delicious. Highly recommend the cod and the hamachi crudo (with the yuzu sauce). They served complimentary bread with some nice seaweed / soy sauce butter in the beginning. Great spot for a romantic dinner or double date, and worth the Michelin.

We came here on a Monday night with a reservation for a party of six people. The restaurant wasn't busy on Monday night. I like the ambience. We ordered six small plates, four large plates, and four desserts to share. The small plates include maitake mushrooms, tuna toast, chu toro, hamachi crudo, west coast oysters, and surf clams. The large plates include local cod, Atlantic salmon, wagyu beef, and rice risotto. The desserts include coconut tapioca, homemade cheesecake, navel orange, and Vestry 'Mallomar' (there are actually only four dessert options and we ordered all of them). I love the seafood here. They are all very tasty. My favorite dishes are chu toro and hamachi crudo. Their homemade cheesecake is the cutest cheesecake that I've ever had, and it's very creamy. I also like the orange dessert - it has great presentation and flavor. I remember there was a dish that's a bit salty but my friends think it's fine, so it could be just me (I tend to eat healthy when I'm cooking at home and I become a little sensitive to salt). The service is good. This is the sixth Michelin star restaurant that I've been to in the last three months and it's my favorite so far this year (not all time favorite though).

Over all disappointing I could not find any truffles in my risotto! When asked the wait staff was unable to show me the truffle they were using in the kitchen...
Be the first to ReplyWent for Valentine's Day and was severely underwhelmed.
I know the Michelin star doesn't mean much nowadays but this was still the poorest quality of food I've had at a Michelin starred restaurant. Had to wait over 40 minutes between arriving and first course, although props to the service staff for being gracious. Food in general was over seasoned and the actual dishes were really confusing. The Berkshire pork over sushi rice dish kind of highlights this as the sushi rice was over-vinegared and the dish itself doesn't really make sense. Most of the dishes felt like fusion for the sake of fusion as opposed to being made to actually taste good.

In summary: food was good not great, and service was painfully lacking at the table (only the hostess at the front was great)After being seated, over 10 minutes before anyone even came to the table. A staff member came and asked if anyone had helped me, no they hadn't. For most of the meal, my water glass was empty, and no one came during the courses, just 10 minutes after I was done each course when it was clear I was idle and waiting for a while. It seemed like only one gentleman was actually taking menu orders but another lady came to ask about drinks. For food: bread and miso butter were tasty but a bit over salted, Maitake mushrooms in vinaigrette were a great flavor but the vinaigrette was very acidic, and the tuna toast was good quality and refreshing but not particularly interesting. Got the coconut tapioca for dessert which was decent but confused. The honeycomb was overwhelming, the pear was poached but underripe, and the tapioca was swimming in a thinner sauce that it should have been in my opinion. Couldn't taste the coconut at all.
Be the first to ReplyI have to say, the bread and butter combo was amazing.
The bread came warm and the butter immediately melted onto the bread. Nori Chips were predominately just flying roe eggs. The mushrooms and chu toro were good but very seasoned (a bit salty for my tastes). Halibut was well cooked: tender, moist, and broke off really easily. The butternut squash purée that came with this dish was amazing - sweet, creamy, and pleasant. Cheesecake was probably the only disappointment from what we ordered. Tasted too strongly of almond extract. But the apple mouse was a nice touch. I wouldn't say that they paired super well together. Just very cute and aesthetic.
Be the first to ReplyWent to dinner at Vestry on Saturday evening.
The overall rating is skewed thanks to an exceptional Tuna Toast, but the rest of the meal was inconsistent and the service was substandard.Quality: Overall a tasty meal, but lacked consistency and had only one truly standout dish. The bites Big Eye Tuna and Nori Chips were fine, but skippable. The Chu Toro was very good, but pricey. The Sushi Rice was okay, but only really needed as a filling item. The Tuna Toast steals the show, incredible and not to be missed. The Wagyu Beef & Cheek was good, but didn't hit that melt in your melt texture. The Homemade Cheesecake is cute for a photo, but not my favorite flavor.Quantity: Small seafood focused dishes, other than the heavy Sushi Rice.Value: $14 for Big Eye Tuna. $14 for Nori Chips. $31 for Tuna Toast. $42 for Chu Toro. $28 for Sushi Rice. $58 for Wagyu Beef & Cheek. $15 for Homemade Cheesecake.Ambiance: Vestry is located in the Soho area of Manhattan. It is a fairly large space with two levels, though it appeared the top level may only be for large parties. It had a very chic, but simple look. Even though it was not in use, it also had a beautiful outdoor dining structure.Crowd: Every table filled on Saturday evening.Service: Not close to the level expected at a Michelin Star restaurant.Parking: Decent street parking.
Be the first to ReplyDinner was fantastic.
Went for Valentine's Day and it was lovely. Food was perfect and we both left full. Drinks were a bit pricy but really good! Tasting menu was 120 a person drinks were 17-18 and tip was included when we received the bill

Mediocre food :( highlight was bread and their butter and oysters, but had their roe rice and beef and it was nothing special. Their alcoholic drinks weren't great either, I could barely drink mine. Definitely could get better else where. The atmosphere was great and the cheese cake was very cute. But nothing special with flavors. Wouldn't come back.
Be the first to ReplyReally mediocre.
We came here in December and I can't remember anything I ate. I am sure it wasn't awful but just mediocre. Ohh and they charge $12 for the tap water they filter in-house! It's the first time ever I saw a restaurant in nyc charging for tab water! Unacceptable.

This restaurant has a lounge hotel feel to it which you might not expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. It is in the former Trump hotel, now the Dominik. Between the foreign accents of the servers, the look and feel of the restaurant, one might think they had traveled abroad. The food is mainly Japanese with a number so sushi dishes, wagyu beef Japanese style, and other dishes. All was very good. The one dish that was a little tough was the cod. The chicken was excellent as were the maitake mushrooms The orange moose was also quite good. Dinner for two, plus wine was $250.
