An Experience!
We visited Vetri for my birthday. In is in an old building on Spruce Street. Our server was extremely knowledgeable of the food and wines. We had the quattro piatta; starting with perfectly cooked hiramasa and apples; it was out of this world. My wife had the sweet onion crepe, which has been a standard for 25 years. Next, I had the spaghetti and prawns; with the first bite you smell the ocean; there was a little heat too. Next, I had the dover sole; easily the best fish I have ever had. She had the smoked baby goat, interesting and good. The triple chocolate mousse was super and had a "Happy Birthday" on it. The server suggested some excellent wines and I finished the night with a glass of Calvados. This place is super special; go there!

When looking for a spot for my small business' annual holiday party, we chose Philadelphia but was unsure which restaurant to visit. We wanted somewhere with a tasting menu, wine pairing, and a high caliber of food. Vetri Cucina delivered on all 3, and we appreciated most that you could choose your own adventure with the tasting menu. My wife and I have different food preferences, and we really appreciated a tasting menu that felt tailored to both of us. The restaurant was small and intimate, tables a good size, service very good (timing was a little slow at moments, but I'd rather that than too fast), and we were welcomed with an amuse and bitter aperitivo. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for an exceptional dinner.

Great Service - Every detail was thought through. So much of today's dining is the same. This is truly a dining experience. Sit back and let the meal wash over you. Slowly enjoy every bite!

One of the best meals we have ever had, start to finish. Each course was a delight and the wine pairings were perfection. Fantastic, knowledgeable staff and service. It is a shame that the neighborhood around Vetri has gone downhill though. The city needs to do a better job handling graffiti, pollution and the homeless population.

We had the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings to celebrate our wedding anniversary and husband's birthday. The food was exquisite, the wines were obviously thoughtfully chosen to accompany each dish, and the service staff was extremely knowledgeable about the items they presented. This was one of the best dining experiences we'd had in a long time - and I do not say that lightly as we've been fortunate to experience some truly excellent fine dining around the world. I highly recommend this experience.

Second time to Philadelphia and second time to Vetri. Fabulous food, and lovely service. Would recommend to anyone visiting Philly and will be back on our next visit.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great service, so much fun
Our party of 8 luxuriated on Super Bowl Saturday for the exclusive chef’s counter experience. Perhaps it was the unseasonal warm weather in the midst of February bringing people out of hibernation, or the excitement of the Eagles playing in the big game the next day. Philadelphia was electric, and this was a spectacular place to enjoy great Italian food and wine with a civic vibe that doesn’t come around very often. Every course we had (see attached menu) was magnificent, with the added splendour of watching each one prepared by engaging staff with the added joy of participating in the preparation. If there was one mishap it was the feeling of being over fed. I probably should’ve declared an elegant sufficiency, as my grandma always wanted us to say, rather than, “I’m stuffed”, yet that’s how I felt before I digged into the veal chop dish. Oh well. Days later, back home, and doing office work I suddenly came down with a desire to eat one of the standout dishes: the Ricotta Ravioli with Mandarinquats. Mmmm mmmm. The Tagliolini with Rabbit Bolognese was another big winner, as was the sumptuous sweet onion crepe. In the antipasti course the top taste had to go to the restaurant’s own wild boar sausage. Delicious.

We dined here in February as a night out with friends (another couple). It was an amazing experience. From the staff that greet you and all of the wait staff, everyone was nice and inviting and welcoming. Our waiter Eric was the best and extremely knowledge about the food and wines. We chose to do the wine pairing with our food — it is a must! Each wine paired perfectly and Eric explained where each wine was made and what made it special. The food—- I can not say enough about the creativity and amazing taste each course had. It was the best food I have had. The entire experience was about 3 hours as we had all 5 courses (the snacks prior to the antipasti) and it was a comfortable pace so you could truly enjoy each course. We were never left wanting and everything was truly amazing. Must have on your bucket list of places. We will be back!
Be the first to ReplyItalian Cuisine with Parisian Flair
You'll get incredible Italian food here but it won't look like any pedestrian fare. But at these prices you'd expect more thought and technique. We started with a smooth squash soup and sumac with Rashes with a Balsamic "butter". The cold king crab/lobster salad on flatbread points were unique and truly memorable. Perfectly poached and lightly seasoned. An onion tartlet was petite and packed with flavor. Carrot and short rib ravioli provided the pasta fix one need with a spectacular twist on the filling. My mushroom tagliatelle was my favorite with a great variety of funghi on fresh pasta. Terrific umami. The branzino with Brussel sprouts was delicate and not overwhelming in size. Since there is an amuse bouche and a palate cleanser with dessert afterwards on the prix fixe menu, it's a good thing they don't overwhelm you. It's easy to understand why this place has its richly deserved reputation. It's a bucket list restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyBest Restaurant in Philadelphia: Incredible Experience and Exceeds Expectations!
Dined here October 10, and the experience wholly exceeded our very high expectations. The food was outstanding, the wine pairings were perfect, and the service was efficient and helpful without being stuffy or obtrusive. With four of us, we tried a variety of dishes across all four courses, and each one was remarkable. A new antipasti souffle (polenta tallegio with mushrooms) was the perfect savory start to the meal, and the molten pistachio cake was the perfect sweet ending, Cannot recommend the restaurant enough, and it is ideal for special occasions. Given the quality of the food and the level of service , the experience is well worth the price (and might even be a bit undervalued for everything you receive). Truly one of a kind and the best in the city.

Dining here is as good as it gets, anywhere. Vetri Cucina continues to offer an incredible food experience in beautiful surroundings with just the right service and attention to detail. Inspired choices for every course, informed waitstaff and an educational wine pairing. We blinked, and it was 2 1/2 hours later! We’ve eaten at top rated restaurants all over, and Philly is lucky to have chef Vetri and his team.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the finest Italian meals I've had outside of Italy
I had only one available night on my short trip to the US (I live in Mexico) to take myself out to dinner, so I carefully researched all of the finest restaurants in Philly and chose this one. I could not be happier with my choice. Yes it's expensive, but the price was in line with many other fine restaurants that offer a tasting menu, and believe me, the value is there. First, let me mention that one of the things I usually DISlike about tasting menus is that there are too many courses, with each one being a bare spoonful or two. This is incredibly frustrating when you taste something so exquisite but all you get is a mouthful, and you crave more! Not here - there are few enough courses so that each one is a perfect size: enough to really enjoy, without filling yourself up to the point where you can't squeeze in dessert. And, full disclosure here - I even added a course, adding their Foie Gras Pastrami pre-appetizer. If you are a Foie Gras lover, DO NOT MISS THIS! It was probably my favorite course of the night, and that's saying a lot. And it was quite generous, which is highly unusual for any restaurant serving Foie Gras. You will not feel unsated. For my antipasti I had the sweet onion crepe, which was melt-in-your-mouth yum. I would have liked a bit more truffle flavor myself, but I understand that truffles can overwhelm a dish and this one was supposed to focus on the carmelized onions. For pasta I had the spinach gnocchi/tortellini pairing. This one had a bit more truffle flavor in the tortellini, to me just the right amount. Both pastas were unique and inventive expressions of classic Italian dishes - I've not come across anything like them before. Secundi was the roasted baby goat. Don't let the fear of eating goat scare you off - it was not gamey AT ALL, and was fall-off-the-bone tender without being mushy. If you like stronger meats, such as lamb, you will love this. Dolci was the molten pistachio cake, once again something completely different, and an absolute explosion of flavor in my mouth, exactly as you want a dessert to be at the end of a flavorful meal. I also did the wine pairings, which were worthy if not overwhelming. They were definitely unusual selections that I would not have been exposed to anywhere else, so the uniqueness was enjoyable, and each pairing went perfectly with the course. And the pourings were a good size. My only suggestion for this restaurant would be to add a second, leveled-up option for wine pairings - at a higher cost of course - for people who want to step up their meal. Food this good deserves truly exquisite wines, and I'll bet they would be surprised how many would choose it. (On the other hand, given the small number of tables I can understand that this may be difficult to do, as they don't want to be left with unfinished bottles of super-expensive wine at the end of the night.) The service was impeccable, in every respect. Not overly solicitous or pretentious, always there if you need them, with full detailed explanations of each course and wine. One final comment: as a woman who often travels alone, dining solo in a high-end restaurant can sometimes be an awkward experience. I recall a meal at Le Bernadin in NYC in which I felt mostly ignored, while the staff heaped attention on other tables. The staff here treated me perfectly - personable, friendly, willing to take a few moments to chat while being careful not to ignore their other tables. I honestly can't recall being made to feel this comfortable dining alone in a fine restaurant. All in all an extremely pleasurable dining experience, and some of the finest Italian food that I've tasted outside of Italy itself.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth amount you paid
We dined in this restaurant since there are so many websites recommend to dine in when visit Philadelphia. Totally disappointed of quality and value of the food. We won't mind paying high bills if it worth. But this restaurant is not worth it. Lucky enough that their service is fabulous so we feel not so bad. Try to think positive. They offer set menu for $150. The portion are super duper tiny. CHARRED OCTOPUS . I barely see where was the octopus only 1 tiny sting ^^ so as scallop dish. they cut very thin slice for 1 scallop for the whole plate ^^ not so sure one scallop or half scallop ^^ Totally disappointed. Go to La croix is worth more at least they give us a right portion for the same price menu set.
Be the first to ReplyThrow Me Your Money
$600+ for a party of two, with two glasses of white wine and a modest bottle of red, plus tax and tip, The Uber was another $30. Not that the meals are about money; they're not. But for $600+, it should be pretty xxxxing amazing. Instead, we left feeling amazingly xxxxed. We began with an amuse bouche. Hardly extraordinary. In fact, kind of pedestrian. And each of the four courses thereafter, just so-so. For the money charged -- $150 for four courses -- you'd expect something memorable. None of its was, and some of it, just not even average. The service was great, but the rhapsodizing about this and that just did not match the taste of this or that. Frankly, I would far prefer that in-your-face Italian one finds at a local red sauce joint, because it tastes great. In many cases, better -- far better -- than what we got here. Sure: Beautifully prepared and served, but the food was nowhere near worth it, and the vino mark-up results in GREAT sense being made by eating at a local, for chicken Marsala with a side salad, a bottle of good Chianti, an No. The food here was not beyond my taste buds; I've been to any number of highest-end restos where the tab was about the same. Sorry, but, in my judgment, what we got here was just plain not even close to being worth it.
Be the first to ReplyIn my Top Six meals of my life. The best meal I have had in six years. Unbelievably great and worth every penny.
Top-six meal of my life.; best in the last six years. This was one of the greats! Yes, it is pricey but the food is superb and the service is sublime. First the food… we started with antipasti; my wife had tuna crudo with fig, which was amazing, and I had the lamb tartare with sheep’s milk yogurt. I am still in awe about how absolutely delicious both were. We then moved to the pasta course, where I had the classic duo, spinach gnocchi and truffle-risotto filled tortellini. The spinach gnocchi had NO POTATO! It was like the essence of spinach. It was unbelievably good! Bill (our lead waiter) also included a plate of fettuccini with cauliflower mushrooms. Again, it was like tasting the essence of mushroom. (I really don’t understand how they get so much flavor out of a single dish.) For the segundi I had the smoked goat and my wife had the porcelet chop with crab and lobster mayonnaise. (While this sounds strange it was incredible!) The smoked goat had a beautiful polenta with it that was smooth and creamy and melted on my tongue. Finally, for the dolci, my wife had the molten pistachio cake. It was simply the best I have ever tasted. And I had the strawberry polenta shortcake. Again it was lick-my-lips delicious. And Bill included an extra desert, the chocolate tartufo with pine-nut sorbetto, which was also fabulous. (I mean really… how does the pastry chef create this magic?!) I really cannot say enough praise about this food. Now the service… it was, in a word, PERFECT. Bill, the lead waiter for our table, was solicitous and gracious while also being unobtrusive. The pacing was exceptional; we felt attended to but never rushed, unlike most restaurants in the U.S. where I feel I need to leave after 90 minutes. And it was quiet! There was no blaring music or TV to interfere with conversation. Again, this is best service we have had in six years. Bill and the entire team was outstanding. He kept asking if we had everything we wished for. And in short, yes we did. I cannot recommend Vetri enough. It comes with my highest praise and if I could give it ten stars I would. Simply the best.

The food is interesting and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed the wine paring option. Our server was super knowledgeable and had a great personality. The service was also top notch. This is not an inexpensive experience but the quality meets the price.
Be the first to ReplyRun, don't walk to Vetri
One of the best, if not the best dining experience we ever had. Where it begin? The ambiance sets the stage. The atmosphere was quiet, not pretentious, the décor was tasteful and comforting. All of the staff were interested in insuring the quality of dining. Our waiter, Bill, explained in detail every item on the menu including ingredients and how it was to be prepared. I got the sense that every waiter was so informed and communicative. We will be back and we will ask for Bill again. He was recognized by other diners as having served them before, and it was clear he remembered them. We were told that the restaurant mills its own flour which is used for the excellent breads and pastas. The menu is priced fixed...and a wine paring is available. If you choose not to to do the pairing the wine menu identifies wine by the courses you ordered so you might order an appropriate glass. My first course was a caramelized onion soufflé which was to die for...but every item on the menu was perfect. If I were to choose "the best" it would be unfair....but don't miss the tortellini as a secondi course. The portions are small, but richly prepared, with a complexity of tastes. Bill brought us an extra pasta dish and an extra dessert to try just because. And that second desert was a delicious molten pistachio desert. I mean, who thinks about even preparing something like that? I ordered the cheese plate for desert. Each course was ordered at the start of dinner. Bill advised me the temperature at which the cheeses were kept and assured me it would be at a perfect temperature when served. I was told there was a parking lot next door. This small lot was filled and was unavailable to us. Fortunately we found a spot at the Kimmel Center lot not to far away...but parking might be an issue. Run, don't walk to Vetri!!!
Be the first to ReplyPre-study the menu
I could only get 5:30 time slot for dinner here - a little later might have been better. Wish I ad pre-studied the menu as I jumped around too much in food types. Wish my server had pointed out a more consistent meal plan. Wine by the glass is our preference but I couldn’t remember what was ordered next so we didn’t always have an appropriate wine. Junior people brought out the
food but gave erroneous answers about the meal - corrected by our server thankfully. Nevertheless we were pleased. Nearly $500 for two.
Outstanding
We expected a lot from dinner at the Vetri flagship and were not disappointed. The service was great--- attentive but not lurking, not overly formal. The surroundings are also great--- the old Le Bec Fin building redone as country Italian. And the food with wine pairings was great. Absolutely not be be missed: the gnocchi. The wine pairings worked really well with the various food offerings, and not all were break the bank wines (i.e., you can buy some for home use).
Just to make an obvious point----speaking of break the bank, this is a bit of a "break the bank" experience! This was a 10th anniversary visit and we may need to save up for another 10 years.
Amazing dining experience!!
One of the best restaurants we’ve ever been to! Amazing food, beautiful ambiance, and an excellent dining experience as a whole. This is the perfect intimate spot to enjoy with a loved one while also enjoying some of the best Italian food you’ve ever had!
Be the first to ReplyTasting menu birthday celebration
I recently enjoyed an amazing tasting dinner with my two daughters for my birthday at Vetri.
We planned our menu selections so each chose different items so we were able to sample even more dishes. Every dish was distinctive and well executed. I also had the wine pairings which complimented each course, and were wonderful. A memorable evening. Would highly recommend!!
My favorite restaurant ever!
Really the entire meal from start to finish was perfection, this is now a total favorite of ours and a new "date night" place for us. The service was even that of a high end restaurant, they hit all the marks for us.
The menu looked very good before arriving and the photos too, the prices very high but fair once you see the dishes, and I was so excited to dine at Vetri that I almost thought it would not match my exceptions but it did. The flan is the perfect ending and cannot be missed and I also think dont miss the spinach gnocchi, i know everyone talks about it.
Amazing Food, Perfect Ambiance
The food at Vetri is better than most meals I've had in Italy. Every dish was fresh, creative, delicious, and beautifully plated. The service was an absolute 10/10. The Italian Spritz are made with Contratto instead of Aperol which makes them taste 100x better (and I love Aperol Spritz!). Definitely go hungry because you probably won't be able to finish all of your food.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing
Vetri Cucina
We ate here on 6/25/21. It was a special birthday and unfortunately the meal was a huge disappointment. Despite the very gracious and welcoming service, the meal fell short.
Except the gnocchi, which our waiter brought out as an extra, because he must have known the the meal wasn’t very good, everything tasted as if it had been made days before and warmed up. And then let cool to lukewarm before being served.
For instance the pasta and mussel dish. Sounded like a cross between pesto and clam sauce. Unfortunately, it had no flavor whatsoever. The waiter made a big deal of how the pasta was made. The wheat was harvested after the field was burned. Then Vetri milled the wheat himself. Maybe if he spent more time on the sauce and service and used dry pasta the dish would have turned out better.
Likewise the fluke, line caught off the coast of NC, should have been juicy and flaky not mushy.
The cheese course was three minuscule pieces of bland semisoft cheeses, kind of like Fontina, accompanied by some day old strawberry bread.
The petit fours was two tiny pieces of marshmallow, and a rather bland version of a malt ball.
We had two very good glassed of $25 wine
Very Elegant Italian restaurant not for the Spaghetti and Meatball crowd
This is the second time I have been to Vetri as it is owned by a very distant relative of mine. The food and the service is excellent and very welcoming to all patrons.
I have to add that this is not for the Spaghetti and Meatball crowd if this is what you are looking for. This is very authentic Italian regional cooking with interesting and high quality ingredients and a very creative menu.
My brother and I had the wine pairing menu for dinner so it ended up being a five course menu with matching wines which really made the meal. Each wine was more interesting then the next and most were grapes that I had never heard of before. The meal was amazing.
We started with a small appetizer that was compliments from the chef. Then we moved on to pickled vegetables and sliced cured meats from Italy. The hams were just delicious and they gave us a very generous portion size.
I started with the Onion Crepe which was creamy and delicate. The flavor was just wonderful as you could taste the richness in each bite with the delicate flavor of the onion. It was not intense.
For the pasta I had the Watercress Pesto with Clams and it was not your usual Clams and Spaghetti. It was an interesting approach to pesto that was flavorful and accented by the sweet clams.
The Pork dish that I had as the entrée was a little fatty and I found the vegetables to be bitter. It was a good dish and well presented but there was not much meat there.
I had the soufflé for dessert that I thought might be a bit bigger but it was the perfect size in the end as I was filling up. It was just the right size for dessert.
All the wines that matched were an interesting combination of flavors that matched the meal perfectly. Even the dessert wine was fruity and spritzy. The meal was brilliantly prepared.
The service was flawless and our main waiter, Bill could not have been nicer. He really ran the table well and the rest of the staff could not have been better trained to make the guests feel welcome.
It really is a special occasion restaurant. If you are ordering the Tasting menu with matching wines please remember that the wines are a separate price and it will bring the bill up. My brother who was entertaining me was surprised at the bill.
Still the Wine Tasting menu was a great experience.
