Via Carota New York Reviews from The Last Year
I had high expectations for Via Carota, but my experience
I had high expectations for Via Carota, but my experience was very disappointing. Let's start with the positives: the service was good, and the staff at the bar were excellent, attentive, and friendly. The ambiance was nice and cool, with a vibe that initially seemed promising for a great dining experience. However, the food was beyond disappointing. I was looking forward to enjoying a delicious meal, but what was served fell far short of expectations. The flavors were lackluster, and the overall quality just didn't live up to the hype. It's disheartening when a restaurant with such a great atmosphere fails to deliver on the most important aspect: the food. Despite the friendly service and enjoyable bar area, the subpar food overshadowed the entire experience. I wanted to like Via Carota, but unfortunately, I can't recommend it based on my visit. There are better options out there that offer both great ambiance and delicious food.
Great Italian in the West Village
I thoroughly enjoyed lunch in this lovely restaurant- I can’t say (as was mentioned by the previous reviewer) that it was the best restaurant I ever ate in, but it was definitely a great lunch! All of it - the setting, the atmosphere, the dishes - everything was just right. I had the heirloom tomato salad and the Pesto Testaroli and enjoyed every bite. The Italian IPA complimented the food perfectly, especially as today was both hot and humid. I will come back!

you've probably heard enough people hype this place up but trust me when i say this is the best italian food i've had in my life AND I'VE BEEN TO ITALY. 12/10 literally broke my scale. the texture of the pasta was incredible and the flavor was honestly chefs kiss. my favorite pasta was the pappardelle and the 'nduja arancini was a MUST GET. if you can somehow get reservations here, DO IT.
Persist: The Wait Is Worth It !
This was our third time trying to snare a table at Via Carota. We succeeded this time (at the bar actually). The place has extremely good energy. People are there to enjoy themselves. The menu is quite vast. You will not be at a shortage to select a dish that will comfort you. We shared three dishes between two. Zucchini fritti (the best I had every tasted), insalata verde & tagliatelle with proscuitto & peas. Divine is the best description for all three. The beverages we selected were: beer, rose wine, amaro & a bottle of pecorino. They complimented our meal perfectly. Throughout thje evening we were in the vary capable hands of Fabian. He helped guide us through our food & drink selections. A true professional.
The food was out of this world.
Prepare yourself to magnificence!!! We had Pappardelle with wild boar ragu, roasted chicken that would melt in your mouth, Tagliatelle: parmigiano &prosciutto. Cacio pepe, which is homemade pasta that was excellent!!! Plus insulata that was very refreshing. We had the most amazing combination of burratta cheese over grilled spinach that was perfected w/ rich flavor and the garlic flavor was just perfect and not overpowering. We also had grilled mushrooms and another dish of grilled artichoke w/ delicious aioli sauce that were surprisingly very good. We had cannolis that melt in your mouth, not hard at all. We had grilled peaches with crema that was just heavenly. We also had almond cake that was also very, very good. We had to wait for a while to get seated AND they do not sit you down unless your whole party is there present. We sat outside and the atmosphere was amazing, great weather and loved people watching.
Outstanding Italian food & drinks
Possibly one of the best meals we have ever had. Looks like a local village restaurant but when you enter it's like being in Italy. Every dish and cocktail we had were fantastic. The grilled artichoke was amazing and the branzino was outstanding. They make amazing Negroni cocktails. No mater what you order you can not go wrong. Our waiter was fantastic and his recommendations were perfect. We can't wait to go back next time we are in NYC. Hard table to get but really worth it even if you have to wait.
Very good place to eat.
Service is good. A small restaurant usually with a 15-20 minute wait but you can walk across the street and have a drink at the bar Pisolino.

A lot of New York restaurants use Resy for their reservations. For this NY trip, many of the eateries I tried to book went immediately to "Notify" on Resy the instant the designated time to book came up. Via Carota was one of these places. Granted, they only release a limited number of reservations for non-VIP's and operate primarily as a walk-in place (or so they say). So that is what I did. I arrived about 15 minutes before their 11 am opening time and was the first in line. Others gathered quickly in a haphazard way until a repeat diner informed us where the line usually forms, and everyone then queued properly. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating; inside there is table and bar seating. Needless to say, the place filled up pretty quickly. Service was pretty attentive at first but became more sparse the busier it got. Via Carota is one of five West Village restaurants run by Rita Sodi and Jody Williams. Three of them, Bar Pisellino, I Sodi and Buvette, can be seen from Via Carota. Via Carota and I Sodi are the most difficult to get into. Here's what I ordered: 1) Grilled artichokes with aioli. 2) the daily special pasta--Stracci pesto genovese 3) fried rabbit 4) raspberry crostata Everything was tasty, but my faves were the artichokes and pasta. A lot of surrounding tables ordered the bruschetta with butter and anchovies, the huge insalata verde salad as well as the even larger daily special of grilled vegetables. There are many other dishes I would like to try in the future. I don't know if I could stand an hours-long wait, however. I would guess early lunch or "linner" (4 pm-ish) would be the least crowded times.
Great spot if you can get in

This was a quaint and quintessential west village restaurant. I've heard so much about it and really wanted to give it five stars, but there were some misses. The Fritto Misto was delicious but was very surprised to see that the shrimp were unpeeled. Entrees were delicious (prosciutto pasta and clams), but on the salty side. The tiramisu was excellent. The service was decent but should have been more on point at such an exclusive restaurant. - 4 stars

Delicious meal but not necessary the best ever as it's been hyped up to be. Service and atmosphere are great
The food was disgusting, no flavour at all.
I thought it was a Greek restaurant instead of an Italian one. All they seasoned the food with was olive oil and salt. The service was terrible, the server only came to take our orders in the beginning and never returned, possibly because the restaurant only caters to the whites. If you're coloured, I do not recommend this restaurant for you. Spent $180 on food I could have cooked better.
This restaurant is absolute robbery.
This is definitively the worst Italian restaurant I've ever eaten at. The food was nasty, came in small portions, and every single item on the menu costs around 30 dollars or more. The food tastes like it's barely seasoned. The only dish that wasn't was the fish, and the fish was overly salty. I couldn't even eat the fish how disgusting it tasted. The meatballs tasted like frozen ones you could buy from a grocery store. And the meatballs just came with 3 sad looking meatballs with no pasta at all. The chicken tasted like it was boiled and just quickly seared to give it color. The service was atrocious. The waiter just took orders in the beginning and then left and never returned. She only treated the white customers well and treated everyone else like trash. She absolutely did not deserve a tip and over was a horrible waitress. Honestly people like that should look to get a job outside of the food service industry, if you can't treat customers well you shouldn't have a job. This place clearly didn't train their servers properly either. The ambiance was nice but it doesn't make up for the disgusting food and the nasty attitude from the server.
Lush!!!
We had a lovely meal here! Gorgeous setting, lovely pasta and salad, lush wine and topped off with superb service!! Definitely worth a visit and we will come back!!
THINK BEFORE YOU BOOK
Where do I begin? We first tried to get a table yesterday, however, the wait was 90 mins and we decided to try elsewhere. We had read reviews and were hooked. The next day, determined not to be beaten we showed up at 6.10pm for dinner only to be told again that it would be a 90 min wait for a table. Not deterred this time we eagerly gave out details and went to the rather charming little jazz bar next door to kill time. Hooray! We received a text after 60mins to say a table was waiting for us. We ordered, we waited, it arrived - salad of fennel with lemon Parmesan and olives was quite nice but not very exciting. The skate was not like I’ve had in Italy or back home in London. It was fried in some sort of coating and not how one imagines their skate to be presented. If you’re from London and have been to either Brutto or the River Cafe or other classiclly beautiful Italian restaurants that quietly and consistently produce high quality good food then please do not visit Via Carota - it can only end in tears.

Excellent Mother’s Day
We took a chance to go for late lunch on Mother’s Day. We are so happy to have gotten a table. The service was great. Wine delicious. Food awesome!

Even after all of the horrible food reviews I have seen about this restaurant I still decided to give it a chance. The food was less than impressive and couldn't have been more average. At the end of dinner after paying the check we decided to stay and chat for a while. We then got accused of not paying our $600 bill, which we did indeed pay. The woman who handled this situation couldn't have been less graceful or kind. She was extremely rude. I highly reccomend avoiding this restaurant. Not worth it.

I've been wanting to come here for awhile (after finding out it is one of Taylor Swift's favorite restaurants). They promised my friend and I an hour wait, but it was more like an hour and a half. What was annoying was they seated a party of 2 before us even though they arrived after us and put their names down after us. They said we could sit at the bar or sit at the table they prepared for us after they cleaned it, and we chose the table, but there must have been some miscommunication because we waited longer and then they STILL sat us at the bar. Whatever, it's fine, we were hungry. I ordered the papardelle and it was sooo delicious. Worth the price. However, the portion size of the pasta was a bit smaller than other places I've been to in NYC. I savored every bite, but I wish we had ordered apps to go with our mains since the portion sizes were small. Also, since we were at the bar, the bartender was making drinks right in front of us, and a few times splashed me, which wasn't a pleasant experience... We ordered dessert, I got a frozen chocolate mousse thing (the menu is in Italian) and I was unpleasantly surprised to find that it had a bunch of nuts in it. My friend got the tiramisu and really enjoyed it. They have matchbooks if you want to collect them. Overall, it was a delicious meal, the ambience is good, but the wait was annoying and the bar seating is less than ideal.
Mediocre.
Over cooked fresh pasta. Rude irreverent service. Not rushing back. Don't bother. Don't believe the hype.
Stopped by Via Carota after a long stroll this afternoon
Stopped by Via Carota after a long stroll this afternoon and left very satisfied. At first I thought there'd be a wait time since this restaurant is so popular, but I was immediately seated at the bar -- the best thing about solo dining. The bartenders were nice and displayed the perfect balance of being friendly while minding their business. The service was efficient but not once did I feel rushed. The amount of food you're receiving is rich, abundant, and protein packed -- VC isn't skimping out on the good stuff Additionally, everything on the menu is unique and this restaurant is the kind where you can try a new dish each time you stop by. Definitely coming back to do that! Restrooms are clean but there's usually a line. Management is very professional when handling mishaps -- diners next to me received a poorly cooked pork chop and they received a new one plus the fee for this dish was taken off their tab! Price per person averages $40-60.
Not good. Don’t believe the hype.
Sadly overrated. House made pasta (tagliatelle) was entirely over boiled and bland. When asked how everything was I reported the pasta to the waitress who took great and unprofessional offense to my criticism which was truly valid. I was told the pasta was homemade and the consistency is normal. That’s incorrect and patronizing. I have eaten fresh pasta worldwide for years and I know a kitchen error when I taste it. Not good and won’t be returning or recommending based on food and service, not to mention price. Prepared sub par and not handled well at all. Everything else we ordered was fair. An upset.
I don't get it.
For all the fuss, they give you the longest wait times and the servers/waitstaff seem to get a pleasure out of being rude to you. The food isn't extraordinary. They make a good Negroni. I've been a long time patron of Rita's establishments but this makes no sense. Service is everything. Food is so important. But one without the other is no for me.

I don't usually leave reviews, but have to call out the terrible service. The waitress was disinterested, inattentive, and would not make eye contact with us when giving the specials. It felt like we were a burden being there. Did not check in on us during our dining and we had to flag another waiter down for another round of drinks. The food was fine, but nothing I would come back for given the vibe.
The food is good but service not so much.
The server claimed that tiramisu is plated at the moment and cocoa on top is sprinkled fresh but when I asked if I could have one with no cocoa on top (a very basic request) he said they can't make such modifications. Same for cannoli: he said they are filled with ricotta at the moment of order and then dipped in chocolate drops and I said "can I have mine not dipped in chocolate" and again no modifications. Oddly annoying.

One of the best Italian spots in the city! Outstanding food, great service, the vibe is old and cozy. Their Cacio e Pepe is the best I've ever had, the homemade noodles take it over the top and the sauce was perfect. My dad got the special which was a pesto papardelle and it was outstanding. We also got the zucchini frites as an appetizer and they were so delicious (and a huge portion). This place is frequented by celebrities and it's clear why.

This is a pretentious dining spot with average food and very inconsistent service. Plus they were advised it was a birthday in the Resy reservation and this was no acknowledged. This was a complete waste of money and time.
Pretentious restaurant
This is an incredibly pretentious restaurant with average food, and service that is inconsistent. Plus my daughter put in the Resy reservation notes it was my birthday and this was not acknowledged. by this restaurant. Waste of money.
Via Carota offers simple yet great Italian cuisine.
My favorite dish on the menu is their Cacio e Pepe, which I highly recommend pairing with a side of broccoli rabe. Everything on their menu is delightful. I recommend going for lunch especially on the weekends to avoid waiting for a table. If you need to wait, also check out a nice bar two doors nest to it called Grove Street Social.

No reservations!! So we got there at 4:08pm and I was the 7th pair/group to wait in line the line got crazy at around 430 by 5 there was more than 50 pairs (Saturday) Cute space nice/simple decoration Our waiter was friendly The arancini were big and delicious they have some spicy pork inside yum! The salad was simple but really good. big perfect for sharing We ordered the ragú and pappardelle the pasta was really good a bit on the salty side but yummy We ordered a beer and the pomegranate soda very refreshing I think is fairly priced for the neighborhood and the hype The only thing I don't like it's the no reservations/waiting in line So if you want to try it go during the week
Terrible service. Tasty food.
Good food. Terrible service. Totally incompetent "host" seating people. This place is for tourists who love a little bit of abuse and think it's a NYC experience. And who are impressed that some celebrity ate here last week. The "host" spent the whole time analyzing his iPad (obviously not googling the definition of "hospitality"). He should spend more time hustling to seat people. All the service staff were like zombie sloths. embarrassingly bad service. We sat at the bar in the end. The bartender with the braids was passively nasty and seemed like she was just too cool to be serving us. I'm embarrassed to have brought my out of town friends here. So many super cool restaurants in NYC that actually care about giving great pro-active service
Via Carota
I've been trying to come here the past month or so, but I know their price went up after Taylor Swift was here a few weeks back. We got here at 11:45am on a Friday and decided to try our luck. I took the day off don't judge me. Still a 45-minute wait. I know this feeling all too well (10 minute version). We opted to wait and grab a coffee across the street at Bar Pisellino as I think everyone does while waiting for their res. Get their hot chocolate, it's elite. After about an hour and 2 americanos to the dome the text came through. Our table was ready. BABY WE DONE IT! I order an Aperol Spritz before my butt even hits the seat. This may be controversial, but I just much prefer a Spritz in a wine glass. If I wanted this type of glassware I would have ordered a Negroni. My glassware issue aside, the spritz was delicious and refreshing. For food, we ordered prosciutto (ODE!), Insalata Verde (a must get), Wild Boar Ragu (disappointing), and the Arancini (Good). To be quite honest, I was underwhelmed by the whole experience. I understand that expectations are the root of all heartache, but all the hype mixed with the wait time built a certain amount of anticipation I couldn't help but feel. Maybe it's a me problem. It's me. Hi... To be honest, I have absolutely had better Italian food in the city. Also they charge $3 for bread and olive oil which is just annoying. The crown is heavy. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
