Just visited for the first time(at the urging of the food centric staff at the amazing NAOE) and I was impressed. If your really into raw fish this is the place to be. If your idea of good sushi comes from a chain restaurant or a buffet this is NOT the place for you. Heading down 79th we were reminiscing about the old Japanese market that used to reside just a few miles away on the same street. We hoped that Wabi Sabi was going to be even half as good as that. We were not disappointed. They specialize in chirashi bowls and we all opted for the omakase(chef's choice) version. It was just under $40, would never be mistaken for a bargain but one bite and you'll feel it's worth it. The scallop was particularly good having been lightly kissed with a blow torch and was the table favorite. The wasabi looked freshly grated and all fish was taste extremely fresh and had the perfect consistency and bite. The rice was far above average and anyone really into sushi knows the rice makes all the difference. It had a nice texture, not over or under seasoned and nearly cooked to perfection. Two of my favorites, toro(fatty tuna belly) and uni, were good, but I felt it was a bit of an undersized portion. Mango wanna cotta and matcha cheesecake were perfect desserts, not overly sweet and a great refreshing ending to the meal. Service was impeccable and the decor is extremely charming. Seating is very limited but street parking was plentiful.
