I was too hungry to snap a good picture at the time. 8/10. When the dish was first served, I honestly thought I wouldn't like it, and that I'd still be hungry afterwards. I mean, it doesn't look *that* appetizing. But looks can be deceiving. I devoured the entire thing and was so full that I legitimately did not eat dinner that day. Restaurant had great service, great ambience, and gorgeous decor. Quaint corner spot in West Village with plenty of scenic streets to walk and digest post-meal. Would recommend and would return!

It's always great to try a different cuisine, and I'll caveat that I haven't tried many Austrian restaurants but this was very solid in my opinion. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the dishes, though I don't know if there was any particular dish that really stood out. Overall, a good spot to try if you've never been. The pretzel was good but personally a bit too salty for me (maybe that's how it's supposed to be)? The white asparagus was very refreshing and I liked the balance with the hazelnuts and pea ravioli. The spetzle with rabbit was just ok honestly - it came with a mix of peas and carrots but nothing really stood out about the dish. The rabbit meat could probably have been a bit more tender / moist? The halibut was actually very good, and cooked perfectly so that it was still moist. I liked the artichokes it came with as well. The best part of the schnitzel for me was probably the lingonberry sauce. It was also surprisingly not too heavy and very crispy. The decor here is also very beautiful, great spot for a nice date or dinner with family.

I selected the restaurant because we visited chef-owner Kurt Gutenbrunner's other location Café Sabarsky (inside of the Neue Gallery) this past year, where I was in awe of his traditional Austrian pastries. I was excited to experience his take on traditional Viennese dinner options!We started by ordering the gem lettuce salad and Bavarian pretzel with butter. The gem lettuce was predictable in terms of flavor profile, but was stacked high with watermelon radish, giving it a voluminous, decadent quality. The pretzel was served with a swoop of warm butter and had a more delicate crumb texture than soft pretzels I've had in the past. As a second course, I ordered the white asparagus. We were informed it was just added to the menu and sourced from the Netherlands. Wallsé was one of the first restaurants in New York to get a shipment of it. The dish consisted of large asparagus stalks topped with two colorful pea ravioli and smothered in brown butter. This was my favorite dish of the night. The thick asparagus gave the dish a hearty quality, similar to the experience of eating king oyster mushrooms. As a main course, I ordered the salmon strudel. The salmon was wrapped in a layer of nori before being breaded, giving it a welcome fishier flavor than the salmon typically served in fine dining restaurants. It was plated in two pieces so that I could easily identify the interior of the strudel before digging in. The carrot puree garnish was as light as whipped cream and complemented the large proportions of savory fish.Wallsé offered all the key ingredients for a peaceful and luxurious dining experience. Playing low music, we could hear each other speak for the entirety of our dinner without difficulty. Our waiter checked in on us between courses, asking if he could help with any further drink selections, offering detailed knowledge of each dish that captured our interest. Wallsé managed to surprise us with its attention to whimsical details. It felt traditional without being predictable, nor did it feel overly experimental. I recommend Wallsé to anyone seeking an elevated glimpse of traditional Austrian dishes in a soothing, thoughtful West Village setting.

I love schnitzel, so I was excited to try it at a Michelin one star. I must say it did not disappoint. I was only disappointed because there were so many other great entrees I would have liked to order also. Fortunately we went with my daughter and son-in-law and they both ordered different entrees which we had a chance to sample and they were equally as delicious. The menu had many different options, not just Austrian. The wine list was extensive but unless you are an Austrian wine expert, it's difficult to navigate; just ask the sommelier for suggestions.

Came here on Saturday with my boyfriend for an early Valentine's Day dinner, and we were pleasantly surprised. The ambience, first off, is very romantic and cozy. We had a candle-lit table decorated with real tulips, and the walls are really nicely decorated with art. Our waiter was extremely attentive, checking in on us every so often to clear our plates or refill our waters. THE RABBIT SPATZLE HERE IS TO DIE FOR. So creamy, meat was tender, & lots of veggies. I would come back here just to eat this again. We had to also try the classic Wiener Schnitzel, and my boyfriend had the Halibut. The combo of flavors in the Wiener Schnitzel is so lovely - fruity, citrusy, savory, and creamy all in one dish. We ended our meal with the apple strudel.Overall great place to try Austrian food! I know there's a lot of mixed reviews on this place, but we both thought it was well-deserving of its Michelin star.

We were rushed from the moment we sat down unfortunately. When we went to order wines we were asked to order our food already and order everything at once (including entrees considering this was a few minutes after we sat down). We were told there were a lot of other guests they had to accommodate that night so we would be helping the kitchen by ordering promptly...this was unacceptable and although we conceded and asked to not have our plates be rushed, they all came out very quick. I hadn't even finished my first glass of wine by the time I was almost done eating. I am not sure how a Michelin starred restaurant would operate in this manner. The schnitzel and pretzel were really the only plates that were worth it as both were very good. Lobster soup was bland, gem lettuce salad was literally just large lettuce leaves covered in oil and nothing else, and halibut was bland and flavorless.

I went to this place a week ago and really liked it! Food and ambiance was really good -- here are some more details:Ambiance/Service: The place was nicely decorated with nice art throughout the vicinity. The staff was really friendly and also very attentive. They answered any questions we had about the menu and guided us nicely. It felt very cozy/homey inside and I felt at ease Food:Food was too notch! The trout appetizer was so flavorful and I thought the thin crepe that surrounds the fish was so creative and so light that seemed like it was part of it.Wiener Schnitzel was so filling. I recommend sharing this with a friend, but this dish really took me back to Austria when I visited as a little kid.The Sachertorte dessert is something they're known for and it's definitely a must try. It feels a little dry but in a nice powdery sense that makes it very enjoyable and easy to eat. It wasn't too sweet which I really liked, so you can taste the jam and the richness of the chocolate well. The Mozartkugel was really creative. If you like Mozart chocolate candies, this dish is a homage to that, and you'll leave satisfied digging through the chocolate coating into the pistachio core.Will definitely come again!

I went here for thanksgiving this year with my family and we did the prix fix 3-course menu. We love German food so we were excited to branch out from the traditional turkey dinner this year and wallse certainly did not disappoint! The dining experience itself from the ambiance to the wait staff, pace of the meal, and expertise of the Sommelier was all perfect. As far as food goes, the rye bread and pretzel were exceptional. The butternut squash soup was a main critique point as it was very watery and not all that rich. However, the Wiener schnitzel was incredible, as was the turkey entree and all of the small sides included. The apple strudel dessert was incredibly flaky and well made and the other desserts on the prix fix menu were quite good too. Highly recommend for a more upscale dinner!

Unfortunately one of the recent worst meal delivered from this one star restaurant.Foie Gras Terrine - the only not bad dishes. $2 additional for extra cranberry sauce.Lobster Spatzle - it was very watery buttery, more like Spatzle soup which is odd to me. The use of white pepper in this dish is questionable. The carrot and green pea tasted like from frozen packet.Venison - tough meat not tender at all, hard to chew, cooked as if it's beef. The pasta came with it was okay.Chicken Schnitzel - there's definitely much more better place in the city serving this half the price. The best thing was the pickled cucumber came with it.Cocktails was whatever for $18-$19 that's light and no layering.Sorry but as a one star restaurant this was truly quite a disappointment.
