Best restaurant in Palm Desert the ravioli was the bomb as
Best restaurant in Palm Desert the ravioli was the bomb as well as the dovre soul. The fish was perfectly crispy and soft. The ambiance is beautiful as they have been open for 45 years and probably have always been this busy. The service was amazing as all the staff were nice as for the chefs cooked perfectly. Definitely a gem in Palm Desert.

Great classy restaurant! Although I would suggest going here on special occasions, the majority of the people were locals! A bit expensive for everyday! But the quality of the food was exceptional! Filet Mignon was one of the best we have had! Had multiple people wait on you, from the bread guy, water guy, drink guy, waiter guy and even the owner came by! Has jazz music nightly! Very busy, need to make reservations!

Found this un-posted review from a year ago (Feb 2022) so sorry if these things are currently not on the menu or have changed. Still posting it because it was great at the time.Scallops great: would get again if comes with sauce (I'd ask for the rice on side instead of under them - personal preference)Ahi appetizer great too (I grabbed crispy bread from Caesar salad & enjoyed it with it for a little crunch)Shrimp cocktail looked really good, would love to try.Desert: Chocolate lava cake was amazing!Kind of want to try a soufflé next time though.Atmosphere was fun & romantic for Valentines Day too.Is definitely a go-to place next time I'm in Palm Springs or Palm Desert
Be the first to ReplyI don't know why we hadn't been to Wally's desert turtle
I don't know why we hadn't been to Wally's desert turtle before. We've been coming to the desert for so long and we have never been here. This is classic old school desert place with tuxedoed waiters, live music in the bar and a decor that Harkins back to the '80s and '90s. The service was on point, very attentive but not overly fussy. The cocktails were excellent as usual for a place like this. We had the mushroom soup which was excellent and then we split the tomato and burrata salad also very good. Food prices are what you would expect in this day and age, very expensive but for a splurge it's definitely worth it. After the meow we went to the bar, listened to the live music and had a night cap. All in all, a great place to visit.
Be the first to ReplyHub & I wanted to try Wally's ever since we moved here.
Finally for our 4-year anniversary (when my mom happened to be visiting), we did. I made a res on OpenTable for a Friday night and we looked forward to a nice dinner-show experience, which is the kind of vibe we were expecting from a fancy restaurant that boasts live music nightly. When we arrived we learned that despite having a gigantic parking lot, valet parking is the only option. It's free (but you need cash to tip), so fine. I liked the entrance lighting and cozy, old-school-classy decor. And I will say that our food was very good. My filet mignon was cooked PERFECTLY medium-rare and the shrimp cocktail was excellent. None of us had huge appetites so Hub & I shared the shrimp to start (you get four and the shrimp are huge...they also split this into separate martini glasses without our asking; this was a nice touch) and we each got an entree plus glasses of wine. This was more than enough food. But (you knew there was a BUT coming), Wally's is quite pricey, even relative to the area, and though the food was good I didn't walk away feeling like I'd had the great dining experience we had expected (and my mom third-wheeling was hardly to blame -- she treated us to dinner, after all). As for live music, they had a saxophone player sitting in the bar area playing jazz along to music off his laptop -- yes, from his laptop speaker. Kinda phoning it in for a Friday night. And our waiter was nice, I guess, but gave us the impression that he was disappointed we didn't order more. I get that waiters want those huge bill tips, but does our wanting to eat a reasonable amount of food entitle us to an attitude? Even if it does, don't we deserve to be spared of your judgment during our meal and you can complain secretly to your colleagues later? Also, I definitely checked the "anniversary" special occasion box when reserving and they did nothing for us. I have never dined at any restaurant that completely ignored an anniversary. It shouldn't have mattered that my mom was with us, we were still trying to celebrate. I thought Wally's was classier.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service.
Great steak. Even my berries for dessert were a standout. Rich, royal, old fashion atmosphere.

What a fantastic restaurant!! The service was exceptional, always available and predicting what you may need, get not in the way and in no way rushing. In fact when we sat, the server asked if we want to relax and enjoy our cocktails first or see a menu. The food, wow!!! We had the lamb, the sole almandine, the tuna tartar, their special salad of the day with hearts of palm and of course we each had a soufflé to finish. One chocolate and one grand marnier. Both excellent. Cocktails were fabulous as well. The ambiance is perfect for a date night or a business dinner. Very old school. This place is a must visit for everyone when visiting. We cannot wait go back.

My 2nd time. This restaurant is Top Drawer. Fabulous Lunch. I had the Filet Mignon Salad. My friend had the Salmon. She said it was cooked to perfection. The whole staff was Amazing. Starting from Sam in the Valet. Emma the statuesque Hostess, our handsome waiter and bus boy. It's like a well oiled operation. Atmosphere was great. Service perfect. And food delicious. Another great dining experience. Feb 3, 2022.
Be the first to ReplyNice fine dining restaurant in Rancho Mirage.
Reservations recommended for the weekend. We both enjoyed our cocktails, and the service was excellent. We ordered a couple of appetizers, salads, the mushroom soup, and vegetarian entree. We all liked the dishes, and the best were the asparagus. Our reason for going there was for the dessert, and we ordered 3 desserts. The also gave us a 4th since we were celebrating DW's birthday. The three of us had no problem finishing the warm chocolate lava cake, souffle, baked alaska, and lemon meringue tart. Their specialty is the souffle (they have 7 varieties), but we liked the warm chocolate lava cake the most. This will definitely, be added to our list of favorite places in the desert for special ocassions.
Be the first to ReplyWally's star continues to fade.
We keep returning, from time to time, encouraged by hyperbolic reviews, but we continue to leave disappointed. Clearly, the restaurant is existing on its reputation and former glory, and under the current manager, it's plateaued, at best. And, sadly, the plateau is at a relatively low level. Far less professional than it should be, in terms of service and staff, and the food is hyped beyond its mediocre reality. Some may see price as a surrogate for quality, but more refined diners don't fall into that trap. It's true -- there are few "great, old school" places left in the area, but some DO exist, and, sadly, this isn't one of them. Truly disappointing. Still. Part of it is the market, which has become much less sophisticated. However, much of it is the manager, who, apparently, just "doesn't have the right stuff." They unsuccessfully tried to sell the place, but those with the bucks were aware of the market shift -- and stayed away. In my opinion, the current quality is mediocre, and the prices just don't justify the clumsy service and barely adequate fare.
Be the first to ReplyVery sad that the third generational ownership couldn't
Very sad that the third generational ownership couldn't maintain the quality and professionalism of the previous two. To be fair, the market has changed. However, at one time the grace and sophistication that was "once Wally's" no longer exists (indeed, only the fixtures suggest any gentility). In my opinion, the food quality dropped several years ago, but at least the warmth and service level managed to continue to be acceptable. However, Wally's Desert Turtle is now merely a shell (pun acknowledged) of its former self, and, many might suggest, it's simply because the current owner/ manager simply doesn't have "the right stuff." Unfortunately, that lack of knowledge and charisma ricochets up and down the food chain (yes, another pun, I know), from bussers to servers and, it would seem, into the kitchen. Everyone seems to be going "only through the motions," and it's only the reputation of the establishment, once an excellent one, that still shines.During our last visit, we were promptly seated, but not at the table (or even area!) we requested. After an eternity, we ordered cocktails, and soon thereafter starters and mains. However, there was no enthusiasm or delight in the service, and the meals were all hum-drum, if not disappointing. Some were bland; some were overseasoned (maybe it was just a bad day for the kitchen?), and some came out entirely wrong. Unfortunately, a bit too much of the "Aren't you lucky to be here and dine with us" mentality was present, throughout the experience. Were we lucky? Yes... to have experienced Wally's over the decades. However, it wasn't lucky for us the last few times we visited, and, very sadly, our future visits will be less frequent. Some restaurants are managed the way a great conductor "manages" an orchestra, with all of the components and talent coming together, in harmony and resonance. However, Wally's has descended into just a lot of noise, little in tune, and not realizing that its decline in all categories (except the secor) is a downward spiral that may have a disappointing ending. So sad.

My wife and I went for dinner to try out the food and try a diffrent place food was great no issue there but the issue with this visit is one of the servers spilled wine on my wife, apologized and looked sorry filled her glass again my wife was not offered help to clean up mind you this was a full glass so she was soaked. No one in the staff offered any help or hey the skilled glass is on us nothing we even got charged for the glass that was spilled on my wife. I did not say anything but I really do not have to this is not somthing that is a question if you are a good buisness this situation gets handles much diffrent than this did I will not return here.

Color me impressed! For years, I would drive by this place and always chalked it up as a restaurant for the older set where I assumed they served bland traditional standards and probably had old fashioned drab furnishings. Well, I finally got talked into dining here, and I have to say -- call me a little old lady 'cuz this place totally blew me away! The space is huge, but every corner is cozy and romantic. Lots of well-placed mirrors, making for more romantic and flattering lighting. The seats are super comfy as well, making me want to settle all the way in and enjoy a nice cocktail. The food was also super impressive. I had the rack of lamb, which tasted great and was perfectly cooked. Others in my party had the NY steak and the halibut almandine, all cooked perfectly with lots of flavor. For desert, we got the baked Alaska, bananas foster soufflé, and grand marnier soufflé. Every dessert was amazing! The wait staff is in a league of their own. I've never in my life experienced such an attentive waitstaff in all my years of dining. My friend, who is a global travel manager, with decades of world wide dining experience completely agreed with the rest of us, that this was the best waitstaff he'd ever experienced outside of a Michelin rated restaurant. We will definitely be coming back here again and again!

UPDATE: One of our party was up all night, throwing up from food poisoning. Do not try the cucumber soup!We went for restaurant week. We had high hopes. We have always wanted to eat here. While the service was great (as you would expect), the food was simply too bland, the flavor profiles did not really mesh, and we left the restaurant disappointed, hungry, feeling a bit irritable, and definitely wished we had tried one of the steakhouses down the street instead. It's entirely possible that our party of three simply ordered the wrong entrees: Scottish salmon, rack of lamb, and the shortrib. The salmon was dry and unseasoned, and paired with flavorless rice, cellery, and edame. The "rack" of lamb consisted of two silver dollar size medallions of meat with a small rib attached (ie french cut) - in what universe is that a rack of lamb? More like lollipops that belong on the appetizer menu. A smear of chickpea paste, a single carrot, a cauliflower florette, a single spear of asparagus, unsalted, flavorless. The one saving grace was the mint jelly, which made it edible. The shortrib had the consistency of shredded beef, and it was served with what looked like a cube of potatoes from a casserole dish. For appetizers we ordered the cucumber soup (which tasted like a jar of pickles, I kid you not), the calamari (which was probably the best of the three), and the burrata salad (which for some reason was made with a thick slice of a beef tomato instead of cherry tomotoes or romas, which really did not work). The $16 cocktail I ordered was called the Rosemary mule, and was quite good. But for $16, I would expect nothing less. For desserts we had the apricot souffle (x2) and the lemon tart. No complaints.Final bill for three with tip was $248. Definitely not family friendly pricing.Three stars for the food. One more star for the service and the ambience. Minus one for the horrible portion sizes. Minus one for the prices. Overpriced, overhyped, won't be back. Minus one for food poisoning.
Be the first to ReplyThis beautiful restaurant did not disappoint.
The food and ambiance was beautiful. We ordered the Chilean Sea Bass for our main course and it was outstanding. Our server Max was super attentive and made great recommendations on the wine selection. Don't forget to order the raspberry soufflé. So tasty.

As one of the most iconic and famous restaurants in the desert for so many years, Wally's didn't disappoint us at all! Their service was superb! Food and drinks were perfect! Ambiance was beautiful! To me, if service is not good, delicious food loses its value. We will definitely go back and recommend it to people who are looking for a restaurant with value for the money.
Be the first to ReplyStaff was very pleasant and kind.
Food was absolutely delicious, lovely ambiance within and nice sign background live music. Many there seemed to be repeat customers who clearly knew the staff. I would definitely go again and recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyI can not say enough good things about this restaurant.
The food and service are always on point. This place runs like a well oiled machine and management should be proud! We love having date night here and we will be back again and again!

AMAZING!!! Highly recommend this beautiful fine dining restaurant. The food was amazing, I loveddd my Chilean sea bass and this place is one of the only in the valley that has balanced the flavor and texture to perfection. And the raspberry soufflé? GOSH, It was like eating clouds in dessert form. The ambience was beautiful, and our waiter Max was just superb!! He was kind, super attentive, extremely informative and just put the cherry on top for a wonderful dining experience. Honestly it was quite a magical experience. Definitely coming back!!
Be the first to ReplyI had an Amazing experience at this Icon of a restaurant.
It was wonderful. It started with the handsome Valet guy named Tony. He was so nice. Then, this incredibly sweet Hostess seated us. She was Beautiful , Tall and Statuesque. We dined for lunch on Friday. The waiter Robert was pure class. He has been with Wally's for Wow 20 years. He provided Amazing Service. The lunch was beyond incredible. Slow braised Short Ribs that melted in my mouth. It was a fun dining experience and a great fashion show Last Friday. The models were elegant and nice. What a fun day.
Be the first to ReplyOld school Palm Springs at its best.
Classic entertainment that just breeds old school and old people in a good way, great lounge and outdoor seating, inside dark and once again old school feel in a good way. The servers were overwhelmed and needed help, they were scurrying with too many tables of the service was slow in the lounge area. I got the mushroom ravioli, Caesar salad and tuna tartare and they were all fairly on point, Caesar was a bit dry for me. I got the rosemary Moscow Mule which was great and the warm lava cake which was perfect to finish. Fun to see the classic nature of this restaurant in the neighborhood above it is magical as well, wish we could live there

ANOTHER amazing experience last night! Service was impeccable. Everyone in our party loved their food. Mushroom Soup, Blue Cheese encrusted Filet, Lobster Ravioli, Short Ribs.... And the Soufflés for dessert!!
Be the first to ReplyThis was our first night in Palm Springs and I had booked
This was our first night in Palm Springs and I had booked this place to try out. I had reservation for later but upon calling they could fit us in earlier. It is and old classic looking place. When we entered it was mostly older couples. The place looked nice and the lighting was on the dimmer side.I ordered A Remy and it was a straight house pour which is expected in this kind of place. The soup of the day was mushroom and I got it. Not bad, nice flavor. I asked about the oysters and he didn't have the Kumimotos but said the ones he did have were medium size not the big ones. I love the small ones because they have better flavor. When they came out they were very big and had the flavor of them which was very disappointing. My wife got the Caesar salad and it was good. I got the imported Dover Sole which was the waiters recommendation. It came out and was over cooked. He said that is the way it is. I didn't like it at all. I guess older people want it over cooked. I sent it back and he took off half of the price. It was supposed to be their best dish. My wife got the salmon and it was ok. My friend got the scallops and sea bass they were ok We ended with the Wally's souffle which was good and the lemon brioche pudding. This place was just ok I am not sure I would come here again. The quality was just ok .
