Damn Good Duck
Great mixup of SE Asian cuisine. Beautifully executed. I cook a lot of duck, and I must say their’s was some of the best I’ve eaten. Outstanding service as well. Waitress gave us some helpful food suggestions for our trip to Vietnam next month. We’ll be back.

Nice ambiance and cool menu. Food is good but pricey for what you get. The lobster noodles were the star of the show! Scallop skewers were also great.
Be the first to ReplyWOW!
Wow - no words for this restaurant! We came here with a big group for a birthday brunch and it exceeded all expectations. The two waitresses were extremely friendly and attentive (I think one was named Pheobe). The food was all delicious - super unique flavors and so fresh. We tried practically everything on the menu and loved it all. Would highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Indonesian fusion food
Went during restaurant week to enjoy the 3 course prix fixe menu and we really enjoyed the experience! Loved the ambience and the servers were very friendly and helpful. Food was amazing! The sautéed shrimps and ayam goreng set were delicious and highly recommended. The sambal has a kick and had so much flavor. Service was abit slow in between courses but the good food made up for it. Great option for fusion Indonesian food in SoHo.

This place is amazing, the combination of the French and Indonesian worked perfectly. Our waiter, from Algeria, was beyond helpful and charming. He really added to the night. The other wait staff were also amazing including a part-time photographer. I'm sad I do not know their names. Well the food matched the service and the ambience. This place may need to on my permanent visit list when next in NYC. Worthy of a Michelin Star (noting that it is in the Michelin guide already). It was an accidental find and a very fortunate one.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Satays. Great Service. Drinks need some work.
This place is very good. The satays are great and the escargot it quite special. The drinks could use some work (especially the amount of alcohol)
Be the first to ReplyDelicious and Interesting
Delicious and interesting food. We shared satays, with superb sauces, and duck and pork rib entrees. Although these were all excellent, our favorite was the tasty nasi goreng fried rice. Prompt friendly service. We look forward to returning.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food
Loved place for lunch - relaxed and I rushed. Service was efficient and the food arrived promptly. First time eating a shrimp burger - surprisingly good. The satay bowl was excellent- with rice and fritter included.
Be the first to ReplyA Brilliant, Original Restaurant in Nolita
Great restaurant. Really interesting menu, brilliantly executed. Service was polite and efficient. The Escargot Rendang was the best dish I have eaten this year - original and a great combination of flavours and textures. Squid ink fried rice, the sashimi and octopus a la plancha were all delicious.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Indonisian Experience
Excellent Indonisian flavor! Food is well prepared and delicious! Prices are fair to NYC lifestyle. Branzino was main course with yellow rice! Fabulous. Australian white wine and fuit of the loom as desert
Be the first to ReplyNice Indonesian French Fussion
Nice location near Little Italy. The decor is very nice, friendly staffs and owner. The dishes are creative fussion of Indonesian and French. Comfortable seatings and ambiance.
Be the first to ReplyFun, Hip, Tasty Indonesian Hot Spot
Wayan A buzzing, fun, young, Soho restaurant serving such good, spicy, small and large plates of creatively tasty Indonesian inspired dishes. The uber hip staff is attentive knowledgeable and professional. The atmosphere reminds me of a casual (and sorely missed) Le Colonial, with a warm, tropical and welcoming Southeast Asian flair. The food is spicy and extremely tasty. We shared scallop and chicken satay (by the time we arrived at 1PM, several items were already unavailable, like the chickpea satay). The scallops and chicken were perfectly cooked and served in a scrumptious peanut sauce. The pomelo salad with cilantro, cucumber and avocado in a yummy dressing was refreshing and enjoyed. The vegetable spring rolls were mostly mushrooms, and so good, but my dining companion doesn’t enjoy predominantly mushroom based food so I would recommend the spring rolls for mushroom lovers. The cauliflower entree was quite good as was the sautéed side of broccoli. The drinks were very well made and the botanist pickle martini was a drink standout. If the very tasty small and large plates, well executed cocktails, pleasant ambiance and attentive staff weren’t enough to make for a happy brunch, the dessert was dream worthy. The pandan custard was a crème brûlée inspired, passion fruit seed topped, plate of creamy, fruity deliciousness. Despite the fact that I was THE oldest person in the room (my millennial daughter’s presence and really attentive service made me quickly forget this) we thoroughly enjoyed Wayan!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent French Indonesian
We had a wonderful meal at Wayan, and wonderful is a term I hardly ever use. The corn fritters were so good I wanted to lick the plate, the charred chicken was very good, mango salad, black bass the best ever, the eggplant was good as was the pudding desert. The only dish that could have been better was the lamb satay which was overcooked and dried out. Service was good and the atmosphere and setting is very nice.

I sent this to the restaurant. There was no response . . . You probably knew this was coming, no? I have never had such a bad show of service in a restaurant: surly waiters, indifferent owner, absurd dining rules—sorry, I believe you referred to it as a "concept." It was ludicrous, totally cliché. Twenty years ago, I had my wedding lunch at Jean-Georges. I came to Wayan with high expectations. The fantasy is most certainly better than the reality. I will commend you on the quality of the kitchen. Why go and completely ruin it with the accompanying farcical comedy? Why the rush? All the plates came within 20 min. of seating us. The restaurant was comparatively empty despite your numerous email/text pleas to not be late, start walking to the restaurant now, ensure the party is complete, etc. Oh yeah, there was also the text that since we were seven people, we'd have a two-hour slot to dine. We were told we could no longer order additional mains because there was final call on savory dishes. It was 9:15 PM. I was again flabbergasted when told the reason for this deranged decision: the chef wanted to get home and beat the traffic. Apparently, Pride had proven too much. Are you not in the business of making money? Maybe I'm wrong . . . I'll skip the parts about having to order everything up front, our bottle of wine on the other end of the room from our table, and even-handed disinterest among all staff in their guests. As a New Yorker, I knew nothing would come of our protestations, but our foreign visitors had faith in the renowned restaurateur. He could have cared less. Two desserts with his compliments. I wish you the best, but I doubt Wayan will make it to the Fall. Frank Flores

Dinner for two at the bad in front of the kitchen, overlooking the chef doing their magic. Service was really good and the restaurant was quite busy till closing though never felt too crowded. The food was original, Indonesian with a modern twist and attention to detail. Strongly suggest for a date
Be the first to ReplyGreat Indonesian Food
This is a terrific restaurant in Nolita. The food and cocktails are excellent, and the variety is impressive. Literally everything we had was great, but I especially want to highlight the cauliflower, the satay appetizer, and the chocolate ganache dessert. To top it off, service was friendly, attentive and quite helpful. We will return.
Be the first to ReplyVery good!
The corn fritter was one of the best things I ever ate. The chicken satay was very good. Got there when they opened and sat right down. The wine was reasonably priced. If I ever go back to Nyc I would go again!
Be the first to ReplyIt's a crime.... that this restaurant has any open tables. INCREDIBLE INDONESIA
This was the best meal I've had in many, many years. A wonderful combination of French-Indonesian, really bringing the Indonesian flavors to life. From the sates (scallops and lamb) to the first small plates (loved the escargot rendang and the sop buntut beats anything I've ever had in central Java), the large plates (duck, sea bass, and don't miss the lobster noodles), even the sides (nasi goreng, corn fritters) were to die for..... Oh, and don't miss the desserts !!! Great food was matched by great service, the owner even stopped by a couple of times to check in. WOW. We will be back,,,,, but they deserve to be booked out far in advance. Well done.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food - I eat here once a month
Of all of the restaurants in NYC, I make an effort to eat here once a month because I love the food and vibes so much. I love sitting in the restaurant's backroom, which has an intimate feeling. Here's a rundown on what to order:
MUST HAVE: chicken satay, veg spring rolls, octopus a la plancha, lobster noodle (you can get it without lobster and it is a lot cheaper), corn fritters
OTHER YUMMY ITEMS: hiramasa sashimi, steamed black sea bass, fried rice, roasted cauliflower
FUN NIGHT WITH INDONESIAN SPIRIT - FOOD NOT GREAT
We planned an outdoor dining night out for a friend who was returning to Djakarta. The menu selections were enticing and at the suggestion of our very personable waitress we ordered 3 plates per person which was too much food for our group of 4.the problem was the food wasn’t as tasty as the descriptions on the menu. Best dishes: sea bass and corn fritters. Satay only average. Didn’t live up to the hype: ribs, lobster noodles, crab and rice. A fun atmosphere but we probably won’t return.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Service. Manager Dylan Rocks. Food Needs work !
Came with friends for Friday Night. Outdoor seating is uncomfortable. Great service. Food is sodium overload and frankly could use some work. Manager Dylan very accommodating.
Be the first to ReplyWeak Ending
Neat restaurant in lower Manhattan. Very lively on a Wednesday night. We arrived for our 8:30 "wait-list" at 8:40. we were immediately seated and had a server within a minute. We ordered drinks and then had a fairly long wait before being able to order dinner. We placed our order at 9:05. we enjoyed the atmosphere and the decor. As our food started arriving, we passed it around and everyone (4 of us) had tastings of everything. Good Items were Chicken Satay, Escargot(really good and a little different in seasoning from the classic), Lobster Noodles, and the Corn Fritter. The Sashimi was interesting but only one type of fish and a very small portion that was 3 times the price of a multi-piece appetizer order in a fine-dining Sushi Restaurant. The Sea bass was perfectly cooked and the sauce that it had made the meal. Unfortunately our meal ended on a low note. At 9:50 we were told that they were out of the Crispy Spareribs that we were looking forward to as the finish of the meal. As a long time restaurant operator, I would think that someone could have told us about the spareribs in less than the 45 minutes it took to tell us. We ordered a baked cauliflower which was decent, but not a high point to finish the meal. The desserts were okay,
Be the first to ReplyDeath by Chocolate Ganache
Wayan was absolutely great for dinner with friends on a weekend evening. The space is pretty and packed with people enjoying the food and atmosphere. The food was great (the lobster noodles was a bit fishy which was a pity) and the chocolate ganache for dessert was outta this world. The service felt a bit rushed at times; I assume it's because it's a weekend and tables need to turn every two hours.
All in all, it's definitely worth it to try the place.
Delicious delicate flavors
Excellent food with a variety of tastes and textures, everything was very delicate and well presented. Great service, outdoor tables were well spaced from each other. Very knowledgable on which dishes were gluten free. Best to order many dishes to share.
Be the first to ReplyOverrated and disappointed.
We were looking forward to visiting Jean-Georges' son at his place in Nilita. We even agreed to an outside table because of them being busy at the specified time.
Menu looked promising, so we didn't spare our dimes and let it all hang out.
And here is the disappointment. Every single dish, be it the scallop satay, small plates or the large plates - every single one can be described as lacking flavors and small.
Mango Salad at $16 felt like an insult. Eggplant - was smothered with some kind of paste that was border line amateurish attempt at sauce. Pork rib at $29 was a slap in the face. It tasted like yesterday's bbq of your clueless neighbor.
We came home and had food again. Nobody spoke about this experience again. Never happened. Never again.
