Whole experience was terrible. Fried branzino was good but overpriced for the value/portion. crab fried rice was cold and bland. thai tea was straight water. papaya salad was okay. whole place was over gentrified. NOT authentic at all. Our waiter was straight tweaking and whispered the whole time while the restaurant was blasting music like it was a club, couldn't even hear my friend who sat across from me. the purple rice was maybe like 4 tables spoons and COLD. honestly terrible experience we didn't even want to finish our dinner. surprised it has good reviews. don't fall for it. i'll never come back.

Had a high expectations from this place but unfortunately there's much better Thai food options out there. Will never go back to this place

Food was delicious and service was great and very prompt, but we couldn't enjoy it due to the very loud music and everyone was speaking too loudly to be heard. I booked the dining room early on, but was seated in a loud basement good for a bunch of loud early 20s crowd, but the noise levels were like that of a raucous bar. Does injustice to the great food and attentive waiters.
Be the first to ReplySo so delicious, authentic standout Thai with great service.
I also love the low lighting, late night vibe and outdoor patio in summer - I can't wait to go back !!

A restaurant that has got it all down to the details! A rare find. Delicious food, highly competent, friendly staff, and warm, well-designed environment. The restaurant is tucked away in a ground level space, so it's a restaurant you seem to have to know about in order to find. I am glad to have stumbled upon it online. The curry was full of seemingly super fresh vegetables - Brussels spouts, the sort of medium-sized carrots with stems that remind me of a farm-to-table restaurants, broccoli. Ie unique vegetables for a curry. The added grilled shrimp to the curry were grilled well. The side of purple sticky rice was unique and elevated the dish. It's nice for the restaurant to have thought of ways to make simple things like rice special. My friend got the tofu "long beans" dish which was similarly delicious. For dessert I got the mango mousse which was great, but I thought the purple sticky rice it came on top of was unnecessary. I know it's a play on mango and sticky rice but rice after rice for dinner wasn't too appealing. I would recommend they do away with the rice but other than that about as good as it gets for an upscale yet casual meal.

5/10 PRO TIP: Get the branzino - it was our favorite dish. One thing this place is good for is not holding back on portion sizes. BRANZINO - wasn't sure what to expect but this was my favorite. Tender, frittery, crispy pieces of branzino fish in Thai sauces/seasonings with veggies. Makes for a pretty delicious stir fry that you don't really see too often. This was recommended to us, too, and glad we went with it. CRAB FRIED RICE - crab fried rice is hard to knock out of the park solely because there's so many places that make this. It was a good fried rice, fluffy, well cooked, no hard pieces, and there was a good portion of crab, and if you make sure to use the sauce on the side, it will take it from good to GREAT. LOBSTER PAD THAI The pad thai noodles themselves I've had better at many other places; it's not bad by any means, but it was a little soggy/perhaps overcooked or too much sauce. The lobster was good, but not sure this dish was greater than the sum of its parts. I'm not huge on lobster, though. FINAL CATEGORY: GREAT (terrible / bad / ok / good / GREAT / excellent)

I used to find Wayla a solid 4 but during the last visit, I found the food to be a bit flat. For apps, we got the calamari, papaya salad, chicken spring roll, and the bbq beef. Surprisingly, I found the calamari to be the stand out from the apps. It was crispy and seasoned well, paired with their delectable sauce. The disappointment was the papaya salad, not as much flavor as I would like and medium spice was very mild. Additionally the chicken spring rolls were dry and flavorless. Onto the mains: Crab fried rice - I would recommend this as they give chunks of crab. It's always a solid dish and very simple but delicious when pairing with the other dishes. Ribs - they were solid but nothing too special for me personally. Fried whole fish - I enjoyed this! Fish stayed crispy and the sauce was enjoyable. Steak - Would skip, nothing too memorable Lobster pad Thai - would skip this. Pad Thai noodles were clumpy and gluey. For an expensive dish and for it being Pad Thai, I was highly disappointed. It also didn't taste as traditional as I would like (flavor wise). Curry - vegetarian but surprisingly I enjoyed it because the curry itself was flavorful. I would get this again. Also my Thai iced tea tasted very watered down. The other individuals in my group who ordered same also agreed. That said, service was good. To be honest, there's a lot of Thai restaurants, especially good ones coming up in the last couple years so I'm not sure I'll be coming back that soon.

The food was absolutely delicious and flavorful ! The branzino was amazing. The beef fried rice had the perfect amount of spice. I would 100000% come back and try more things on their menu and definitely get the branzino again!

Me and my friend went to this place in January and sat outside in their heated patio. My only complaint with this place is that the heated patios are not really heated (compared to the other ones in nyc). We were pretty cold and ate with our jackets on. However, the staff were very sweet and accommodating. That being said all the food was delicious! We started out with the homemade Thai tea w oat milk. I usually never like oat milk but this place had a creamy Thai tea and it didn't feel like oat milk at all. For appetizers we went with the chicken curry puffs, they were very soft and flavorful and the dipping sauce which is a yellow curry was also delicious. It came in a set of two, perfect for a date. We then ordered the crab friend rice and the yellow curry main. The crab fried rice was some of the best I've had in the city, the crab was super soft and buttery and with a little side of chilli powder this dish was exceptional. The yellow curry was delicious as well but nothing spectacular compared to the other dishes. Will definitely be coming back to try some more of the other dishes as well as to get the crab fried rice again!
Be the first to ReplyHad a girls night out here and we all know when catching up
Had a girls night out here and we all know when catching up with your girls while drinks are flowing, you can lose track of time. Back track, we had the calamari to share which came with a delicious avocado lime dipping sauce.. I'm usually a sweet chili girl but instantly fell in love with this sauce. I had the crab fried rice which came with fish oil, I wasn't gonna try it until our waiter insisted.. and it made such a difference. The rice was bland at first.. immediately upon adding the fish oil it became just the right amount of spicy and salted perfectly. Delicious jumbo pieces of crab. My friend had the duck, it was my first time trying duck (late I know) and it was sweet.. I love sweet okay.. it has just the right amount of sweet too, not overwhelming. So everything was going fine until we got asked 3 times within 10 mins by 3 people were we ready to box our food up, the 3rd time was right after we just got a 2nd round of drinks. We declined each time, then 1 of the servers came over to explain their 90 minute rule. We were 2 hours in, I get the 90 minute rule if the place is packed and people are waiting but when there are several open tables and there's no one waiting in the front? Also, why accept our 2nd request for drinks if the 90 minute rule is as so important. We ordered the drinks & they arrived around 7, by 7:10 they were explaining the 90 minute rule. It instantly made my experience go from a 5 star to a 3, nothing worst than feeling unwelcomed when you're actually spending money trying to support a small business. Then the waitress proceeded to show us a tablet of upcoming reservations after we already asked for the check, drawing attention to us.

Wayla's hidden away underground in the lower east side, but it doesn't shy from bold thai flavors in its dishes! I heard about it from Infatuation and I love trendy Asian restaurants with cool lighting, well-thought out plating, and vibrant flavors--Wayla delivered on all fronts. We got the calamari and papaya salad as appetizers, and maa's gaeng pak (homestyle veggie curry), crab fried rice, and tofu pad thai as appetizers. The avocado sauce that came with the calamari was great but otherwise the appetizers were pretty standard. The entrees, however, hit all the right notes of savory, sweet, spicy, and sour. There were considerable chunks of crab in our rice and it paired incredibly with the curry, which also featured large chunks of non-traditional vegetables like brussel sprouts. The pad thai also featured thinner noodles than I'm used to, but with a lot of pops of lime. Overall, a great place to take a considerable party to share dishes and guarantee a table.

I'm giving this place 4 stars only because the food was really good. The service was trash, and especially the hostess was rude and acted almost like I'm at her mercy to get seated at a table. The place is very small, the tables are very close to one other and it's very obvious they overbook. Even though we had a reservation, I had to wait about 30min because the place was that packed. We started with the Kua Kling Wok-Fried Shrimp which was full of flavor and extremely spicy, then proceeded to the Lobster pad thai, and ended up sharing some drinks. The food is overpriced but delicious.

Superb Drink, amazing apps, friendly staff, and solid authentic thai food. Came for brunch and while the menu was limited everything was a hit.

This was my brother and my first time at Wayla and we were so impressed! First, the staff there were super friendly and fun to be around. Second, the ambiance was very nice and well done. Third, THE FOOD. It was incredible. We started off with the calamari and papaya salad and they were both amazing and both recommended. Such great flavors! Then we got the beef fried rice and long beans with tofu. Again, recommend both and we couldn't stop eating.Highly recommend going here for a nice brunch or dinner! We are definitely putting Wayla in our normal dining routine.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a terrible experiene.
I came with friends for dinner and had arrived 15 mins early to our reservation and encountered an aweful Eastern European female hostest/ server. Our party sat down for 5 min catching up and hadn't had a chance to look at the menu and she came back to say are you going to order something there was only 1 other table occupied so it's not like there was a rush for the table. I told her she was rude and that we would be leaving and she kept trying to make excuses to explain herself which were just even more rude. I asked her to stop that I don't care to hear it and she just wouldn't stop. It got to a point that I had to raise my voice to an uncomfortable level to call attention to other to get her to stop. Can't speak to the quality of the food I'm sure it's ok but this woman sure ruined any chance to try it. ***Read the review of the person 2 before me and you'll see it's not an us thing it's a her thing. She should be let go. Culturally not a fit for the community.

The lunch menu is very small and offers nothing new at such a ridiculous price. Even the drink menu is not very good. I have yet to try the dinner menu but I don't intend to.
Be the first to ReplyThe servers were friendly.
We had reservations and they seated us. The atmosphere was cozy.We had lobster noodles which was delicious! If you don't have any seafood allergies, give it a try, all the shells are taken out except for the lobster head for the aesthetics of this dish.Would recommend coming back with reservations because this place can get busy!
Be the first to ReplyWe arrived early for our reservation, although there were
We arrived early for our reservation, although there were multiple open tables inside, we were seated in an outdoor booth on a day the temperature was about 30 Degrees. I asked the hostess if we could sit inside due to the weather, she replied that booths were heated and without even looking at us we were escorted to the last booth on the street which had a broken door. After 15 minutes of trying to keep the door closed and from not hitting pedestrian who were walking by on the sidewalk our drinks arrived, our hands were so cold we could barely grab our drinks. I told the hostess that it was way too cold to try and have a meal outside in that broken booth which later one of the employees mentioned had been that way for a while, once again without even looking in my direction she said there were no other tables available even though there were still 2 tables open inside and remember I had reservations one of the guys that worked there recommended sitting us in the coffee shop and before we knew what happened we were once again escorted two doors down to a small coffee shop with the smallest tables and the some very small uncomfortable chairs. My daughters said maybe we were not cool enough to be seated in the main dining room. Our waiter Andre was AMAZING very attentive, knew the menu inside and out and was able to answer all our questions and even made some cool recommendations * MAA'S GAEN PAK- Shrimp Curry Dish was actually pretty good not sure it was worth the $42* My NY Strip was overcooked, and it was cold (I ordered a medium) * PLA OB SAMUN PRAI - Whole Bronzino cooked in the Banana leaf was good my wife really enjoyed it.* Me and my wife had 4 Drinks Whiskey and ginger ale, we found it kind of weird that we had 4 separate charges for the ginger ale in our drinks.* My Daughter had 2 Basil Lemonades that were good* My other Daughter had 2 Thai Iced teas that were good * Impossible Meat Skewers were good my pescatarian daughter enjoyed it. * Lump Crab Fried Rice was pretty good We really wanted to like this restaurant but at the end of the day and $366.47 later we felt like we were not really welcomed there!

Second time visiting this place (from Chicago) and this will always be a staple on our trip.Service is top notch. Everyone is so friendly and the food comes out super fast.I loved what I ordered the first time so I ordered the same things: Maa's Gaeng Pak and the Khao Pad Pu. It is the best Thai yellow curry I've ever had in my life. Everything about it is amazing---the veggies, the sauce over jasmine rice. I added shrimp this time and they were jumbo and succulent. The lump crab fried rice. That is some real juicy crab meat and they put quite a bit on top. They pair it with a lime wedge and some chili sauce which just makes it even better. Get the mango mousse with sticky rice for dessert. Not too sweet. Perfection.

One of my favorite restaurants in the city I absolutely adore Thai food and the flavors at Wayla are truly mouth watering. We were all freezing our butts off since everything was outdoor seating at the time (in the middle of winter!) which made it all the more tastier 9/10 I would give it an extra 0.5 but I didn't love the moo sarong (crispy noodle wrapped pork meatballs) even though it seems this is their most popular dish, maybe because it looks cool. Favorite was the moo ping, a traditional Thai street food item, and second was the crab fried rice. Two classics that were superbly done. Even loved the purple rice hehe and I am not usually a rice person :p
Be the first to ReplyEverything was phenomenal.
The perfectly heated outdoor booths, the tamarind cocktails, the beef fried rice, spicy green beans and tofu and the chicken wings. Definitely order the desserts as well - we got the mango mousse and coconut ice cream which I'm still thinking about...

Great food, great ambiance, definitely try and sit either inside or on the patio but not curbside - the whole point is being on the restaurant.
