Wow. After a phenomenal trip to Vienna, this was by far one of the absolute highlights. Best Wienerschnitzel in the city. Great wine list. Gabriel served us both times and is absolutely fantastic. A very special, wonderful restaurant and well worth the Michelin recommendation and quite frankly superior to some of the more "celebrated" spots in the city. Bravo Weibel's Wirtshaus and Gabriel! Vielen Dank!

Recommended by trusted travelers and Michelin Weibel's Wirtshaus feels as though it may have occupied Kumpfgasse 2 for centuries, a short walk from St Stephen's Cathedral finding the small Restaurant serving traditional Viennese fare plus seasonal inspirations.Something of a "Gastropub" by Austrian standards, with outdoor dining offered in the garden, it is by a lone server that guests dining at lunch are guided with no rush as each and every plate is made in the kitchen as ordered.Possibly an old home or inn, the kitchen hidden from view and a bar beneath more seating upstairs, Weibel's comes decorated in tchotchkes and photos providing temporary distraction until the arrival of velvety Chestnut Soup unfortunately a little overwhelmed by Truffle Oil.Fair priced from Appetizers to Entrees, €22,90 for a hulking piece of Wienerschnitzel more than justified by tender flesh and loosely-adherent Breading, don't overlook semi-sweet cooked Cranberries as an addition nor a generous bowl of Potato and Cucumber Salad.Open lunch and dinner with a sizeable Wine list for someplace so small, Dessert includes many of the usual suspects though none comes more recommended than torn Pancakes, or Kaiserschmarrn, kissed by Confectioner's Sugar and ready to be topped with stewed Plums or Apple Mousse.

Weibels Wirtshaus was the best Austrian restaurant we went to. You will need reservations for the most part, so call. Being from the LA area in the US, the prices were fine.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food and friendly, English-speaking waitstaff.
We were a group of 12 and ate in the small outdoor patio. The sliced salmon, goulash, sliced veal, schnitzel, and everything else was delicious.

5 star rating makes no sense. This was one of the best meals we had on our trip. My wife started with a dumpling soup which was good, but kinda bland. This was the only mediocre part of our meal. Even the bread (which is not included but so worth it) was tasty and came with a good chive butter. My wife got the Arctic char which was well cooked and tasty. It came with some good vegetables but no major sauce so the flavour was very much the fish itself. I went for the beef goulash and was blown away. The meat was superb, the sauce even better, and the little dumplings were super tasty that I loved to eat with the sauce. Totally cleaned the plate as despite being goulash it wasn't super heavy. That sauce was the highlight of the meal for me.We ended with some apfelstrudel. Apparently they're known for their apfelstrudel but I was going to get it regardless. It was superb. Warm, gooey, perfectly sweet. Incredible.Service was good throughout the meal - attentive, quick, friendly. Will definitely return should I find myself in Vienna again
Be the first to ReplyNot impressive.
Went there based on a (bad) recommendation for a restaurant with "good" Austrian food.Smoked bacon: nice.Tafelspitz: BAD. Nowhere as good as Plachutta (which in my last review I was not so positive about). My son's sirloin was poor quality and overdone. In fact they never asked us how we wanted it done.My wife's risotto was fine. Prawns were OK, not impressive and not worth 3 euro each but fine.Sorbet full of color and fake flavor.Service. Average. Not bad, not memorable but I could easily see how some may not like the service.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful experience.
A bit difficult to find in the alley, but we were glad we did - it was exactly what we were looking for! The bartender spoke excellent English and suggested a bottle in our price range and our palate preferences and it was perfect. We sat on the outside patio during a beautiful day and he took care of everything; a perfect pour.

I know there are a couple of negative comments about the service in other reviews but we had an excellent evening. The food was really really good. The menu has three sections, their classic Austrian dishes, 'chef recommended' and two different set menus. I had the sea bream with asparagus risotto and my dining partner had the potato soup to start and then asparagus ravioli for a main (the portion for the ravioli is small compared to most italian size, more than you'll ever eat sized dishes). The waiters were busy (rushing around between the tables) but they were friendly and attentive when taking our order and serving the food. We visited at 8 on a Friday evening without a reservation and didn't have a problem getting a table though the restaurant was nearly full. Would definitely visit again and recommend to friends.
Be the first to ReplyArrogant, unapologetic waiter.
You can receive much better service at McDonald's.Arrogant waiter ruined our night. We were a group of 13, - 3 families with kids. We had to pay and leave even before finishing our food.Never again.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, horrible service.
I bumped into the waiter at the entrance. I apologized. He said "do you have eyes?". We still sat down to eat. We shouldn't have. During the course of the meal there were two or three incidents where he got angry with us. At one point we asked for an empty plate. He said "this is a restaurant not McDonald's". Whaaatttt?? Don't go to this place. Seriously.

The restaurant was recommended to us by some friends and we were very eager to go there. Eventually we made it. The location is nicely situated and cozy and the welcome was very friendly. They had some extraordinary beverages and the menu looked promising. However, we were not happy with our choices. The Tafelspitz consisted of 2 thin and dry slices of meet and some unlovingly decorated garnishings. The roasted veal liver was bloody and barely cooked. As we mentioned that to the waiter he replied that liver always is served medium. However, it was medium rare to rare. Maybe we only experienced a bad day looking at the other reviews.

When visiting Vienna, my wife and I stayed at the Hilton Vienna, which was an excellent and convenient place to use as home base (convenient to train and walking, excellent staff, and good old Hilton quality). Back to Weibel's Wirtshaus. A short walk from the Hilton, is a shopping and restaurant row, which to our delight includes Weibel's Wirtshaus. We stopped there on a whim around 6:30 PM without reservation and asked for a table. The concierge politely said he could seat us immediately if we agreed to finish our meal by 8:00. We were beat from visiting the Belvedere that Sunday afternoon, so we happily agreed to his easy terms. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable, the staff was polite and spoke excellent English. And the food was terrific. Weibel's served all of the Austrian "standards", but also had venison and duck. I had the deer and my wife had the bird. Both were terrific and we passed samples to one another. My wife also really loved the pumpkin soup. The strudel was good, but not the best in Austria. Besides that, it was one of the best meals on our vacation to Germany and Austria. If you want to enjoy high quality traditional Austrian cuisine at reasonable prices (did I also mention the great service and quaint atmosphere?), this is a place you don't want to miss.
