Very Disappointing
We were going to have our September 14, 2024 vow renewal ceremony and reception here. We have been here before for several events. The food and service had always been good. However, in planning our vow renewal with Golden Mast was a disappointment. The banquet contract states we should have had a tasting, but we're told only weddings get tastings. The only difference is that we are already legally married....everything else was the same. That being said, we spent over $200 on dinner for two so we could do our own tasting. We were going to have our ceremony and reception there. We are having an officiant to perform the ceremony. We would have been having the same ceremony and reception that everyone else is. The room Golden Mast offered us was supposed to hold 50 people. We stated we were going to have 50 guests. Yet, when we asked about room setup, we were given seating for 36 guests. When we asked what specific table sizes were so we could purchase the correct linens, we were made to feel like we were "bothering" the banquet coordinator. The way the room was set up was not going to allow for all of our giests to view us. We expressed concerns about that room but was told there was not another area due to the time of year. We had also asked about the use of the bridal room, on multiple occasions, to get ready on-site prior to our ceremony. Golden Mast could not commit to an answer. Rather, they told us that if the wedding party in the larger room upstairs was going to have their ceremony on-site, it would not be available to us. We inquired about having pictures taken at the Gazebo, but, again, because of the other party, that would be off limits. We were told our ceremony would be held by the fountain. It was actually going to be held by the lighthouse (with a water feature). There was no room to have a DJ or even dancing if we created and managed our playlists connected to Bluetooth speakers. In the end, we moved to a different venue and were treated so much better than at The Golden Mast . We feel the whole ceremony and reception was not significant to them. We feel that this was an unfortunate situation.

WOW! This is either your grannie's supper club or a mistake on the lake. It does not know what it wants to be - a German restaurant, supper club, bar? I disliked the decor. Lots of wood reminiscence of the 1970s with a hodge podge of decorations - family history, German knick-knacks, nautical art, local photos, etc. The exterior looks much the same but fortunately, it was dark so you couldn't see it. Send them the name of a good interior designer. There is no dress code so anything goes. There were men in jeans and t-shirts to women in sequins and full-length dresses. The best things are the excellent servers, the freshly baked bread, and the red cabbage. The bread was served with butter and some airy spread that might have been the cheese pate. It was good but didn't taste of cheese. It is a huge place and a busy weekend night so nothing appeared to be cooked to order. I had the German combination of duck, weiner schnitzel, and beef rouladen. This large platter seemed like it had been hanging out under the warming light for too long. The duck skin was rock hard, and the meat was dry, cold, and stringy. The schnitzel was cold and soggy. The beef was like a leftover Sunday pot roast smothered in jar gravy. A friend had the prime rib which looked good but again was on a huge platter. There were no members of the "clean plate club" except the guy who had a salad. It was pricey for so-so food. I'm guessing they stay in business because of the location on the lake.

This is a first class supper club on the lake. I ordered German food and it was authentic and delicious. Our server, Julian was excellent. I highly recommend you visit.
Be the first to ReplyJUST NOT A GOOD FISH FRY
Worst Friday night fish fry ever. I had the all you can eat fried cod ( $22). The fish was way over done. and cold. The fries were cold and soggy. The potato pancakes were cold and spongy. They were so crowded ( 5pm) that we never had a chance to send back the food. Just paid and got out of the place. Waaaaay over priced. Great venue but not going back. They are living on their reputation.
Be the first to ReplyThe first bad meal, ever!
My wife and I took a couple visiting from out of town to this restaurant for dinner on a Tuesday night. The size of the crowd there was surprising for me at 5:30 PM, but then I was realized that it was lobster and steak night. Nevertheless, we were seated quickly indoors with a great view of the boat launch and lake. Drink requests were taken, dinner orders were placed, and life was goodโโuntil the seafood chowder was served to me lukewarm. I kept quiet. The waitress had a trainee and maybe the was a mixup. Other salads and appetizers were fine. No complaints. My entree was sauerbraten and my wifeโs entree was the prime rib. This was the poorest tasting sauerbraten I have ever been served as the meat was not sour but mildly sweet, as if a sweet BBQ sauce was used in its preparation. I like red cabbage, however, there was much too sourness/ vinegar taste for to be acceptable.. The chef needs a refresher course in German foods because this is not the quality we expected and have received with previous visits to Weissgerbers. Nor, as a matter of fact, my wifeโs prime rib was not up to Weissgerbers standards. โUnimpressive beefโ was the general impression. Served without any horseradishโdelayed delivery after a request, thoughโ-Half done with the meal. I hope this decline in quality is a result of a bad day and not a harbinger of things to come. We really enjoy this restaurant! Sadly submitted.

3 people for dinner. Scott was our waiter. He did not greet us after sitting down for 10-15 minutes. I had to wave him over to our table in order for him to notice us. His service to our table was slow. Forgot to give my husband his drink (which was sitting (ready) on the bar for a long time). The food was ok (not great). The atmosphere is interesting. Many other places to go on Okauchee lake that we enjoyed more. Scott may have had an off night but his service wasn't good. We won't go back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat views of the lake. Eat German.
Beautiful bar. Beautiful dining rooms. Great patio. The food was wonderful, the drinks were good, and the wine list was approachable. They would have gotten five stars, but we really felt rushed.
Be the first to ReplySunday Bunch experience Sunday, June 4th,2023
If you go to The Golden Mast for Sunday Brunch I would suggest that you first make a reservation as I always do and do not make the reservation between 11:00am and 1:00pm. Service is not very good during this time due to the amount of people in the restaurant during this time period and the lack of staff to accommodate everyone. Felt empathetic for our server who was killing herself and doing her best .
Be the first to ReplyBrunch not up to previous standards
Traveled from out of town with friends for a Sunday brunch. We had enjoyed the brunch in the past but we were all disappointed in the experience this time. We ordered the breakfast meal which is supposed to have eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and toast. The eggs were cold, potatoes were overcooked and hard as a rock and no bacon provided. We asked for jam for the toast and the waitress didn't return with it until we were almost done eating. When you spend $20 for a basic breakfast, it should be edible. We will not be returning.

We went here for dinner today. Had the blackened orange roughy sandwich and fries. Also had the oysters Rockefeller. Very good
Be the first to ReplyAlways Outstanding
Weโve been to the GM many times but admit we have not been here in several years. With all the pandemic fallout wasnโt sure what to expect. We visited on a Sunday night and found the restaurant wasnโt very busy which was fine with us. We were seated at a beautiful table over looking the lake. The menu has a good variety of seafood, steaks and traditional German fare. While not a huge menu there are plenty of options. Dinners came with either soup or salad along with warm fresh bread. The soup was a seafood chowder which was very good. I was expecting a cup but got a rather large bowl. My only (stress only) complaint was the soup was not very hot. It was warm but soup should be served hot. The salad was one of the best Iโve seen at a restaurant. It was not just a bunch of lettuce with the two cherry tomatoes and few croutons. This had several veggies along with very fresh lettuce and nicely presented. And fairly large portion. Our entrees were excellent. The shrimp and scallops were fantastic. Generous sized scallops along with a good helping of pasta. All entrees were very generous. Our server was very helpful and dinner was well paced. GM is a beautiful restaurant inside and out. Very friendly staff, excellent food. We will definitely be back as they have various specials throughout the week.

Been going to this restaurant since I was a little kid and this was the worst meal ever. Ordered the duck which came with spaetzels and fresh veggies and none of it was even warm. Butter didn't melt on the spaetzels. Food was good, just not warm or even close to hot. Location is lovely. Service was good, just not the correct temperature to serve it.

We went here for dinner today. Had the oyster Rockefeller. And blackened orange roughy. Others had the tenderloin sandwich and fries. All were good
Be the first to ReplyConsistently good food - very reasonably priced
You may have to wait for a table but be patient as it's worth it. I come here a lot and have NEVER had a bad meal or bad service. Prices are extremely reasonable (unless you're a super cheapskate - lol), and actually under priced (to anyone who dines out at all). My server was Carla and she was great. The bartenders, Kevin and George were wonderful. Thank you yet another amazing night at the Golden Mast. Love, love, love your tenderloin.
Be the first to ReplyNice But Not Worth
Spent too much, didn't get enough, waited too long, and left short. Half the food we ordered never came or showed up on the bill (thank god), food was ok quality but not worth the price for such small portions, and felt like we were waiting for an hour and a half just for our soup. Disappointed because I had heard such good things. Sorry to say we wont return for an overpriced supper club that is clearly going downhill.
Be the first to ReplyA Perfect Place for a Lovely Lakeside Dining!
On Fridays, the restaurants in and around this area offer fish fry, and we avail this opportunity of enjoying seafood. This is a leading restaurant serving Okauchee, Oconomowoc, and surrounding areas since 1967. It is famed for its delicious steaks and traditional German specialties and is in a classic waterfront venue with elegant dining spaces, patios, and a marina. The lake makes it all special. The old-time German decor affects this restaurant appealing. The staff was friendly and well-mannered. Many attributes extended by this restaurant like outdoor seating, reservations, private dining, parking, and wedding specials elevate it to a higher level compared to other restaurants in this area. The Sunday brunch and live band are added attractions. Overall, we had a great evening and left with full tummies from scrumptious food and big smiles from the party.
Be the first to ReplyThe worst $35 fish dinner on the planet
This restaurant is in trouble. We arrived on time for our reservation. Once we were seated at the table, we waited 30 minutes before the lady took our order. After placing the order, it was 55 minutes before the entrees arrived. Halibut was one of the specials. My halibut was cooked dry and covered up with some rancid tomato dressing. This was the worst piece of fish that I have ever received. When I arrived home, I was making continuous trips to the bathroom. I believe that I was poisoned by this dinner. I would strongly urge people to refrain from dining at this once top notch restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyGood but itโs the little things
Had 7 people on a very busy Saturday night. Place was packed. Had a reservation but waited at the bar and had a drink. All good. We sat down and had a nice dinner. Two of us had their special prime rib. Very good but asked for some horseradish for the prime. Iโve never had a prime rib dinner where it wasnโt served with the meal. Charged $2 for one once is horseradish sauce. Really ticked me off. When you spend $500 for dinner and they charge you for horseradish sauce when it should have been served with the meal us ridiculous. Little things like this makes people think twice before going again.
Be the first to ReplyOvercooked overpriced overcrowded
Really disappointing. Waited forever for overcooked fish fry that tasted like is was cooked in advance and reheated in the microwave. Definitely not worth the price. They have a bigger crowd than they can manage on a Friday. If you go there, opt for the baked fish. Fewer people order it so it may actually be cooked fresh for you. Wait staff also had too many tables to provide good service. We waited forever for the check and finally had to get one of the bus staff to hunt him down so we could leave.
