Easter Brunch
Much smaller than original restaurant. Now the Tavern and small area with bar inside and outdoor patio. Made reservations and was not told we had to sit outside. Brunch was good and service great as usual. Just would have liked to know that inside seating was not available when I booked for Easter brunch. Very disappointed.
Be the first to ReplySame great food, same great service just a bit of a downgrade on the overall experience.
It is now the Tavern at Woodberry Kitchen (or something like that) with service in the small room before you go in the main space. That main space is now a catering/event space - a wedding reception was going on as we ate at 6pm on a Saturday. That commotion (and sharing the bathrooms with very large groups) was a minus for me, as was not getting to eat in that big room. Made parking trickier, too - there did not seem to be any valet parking. The food was top to bottom great: fried oysters for my wife, a crab cake and salad for me and we split a crab dip/crab pot which was very good. We also had the CMP for dessert which is basically a fancy (and very tasty) hot fudge sundae. As usual, the service was great. We told them it was our anniversary and with dessert they gave us a cookie with "Happy Anniversary" on it. They add 23% as a service fee but also leave a line on the check for a "tip" that would go direct to the server in addition. Maybe I'll have to get used to that but that was the other negative. Same great food, same great service just a bit of a downgrade on the overall experience.
Be the first to ReplyChef Gjerde has done it once again
Woodberry is back! Chef Gjerde has created a new fresh space with food and service that is superb. We thoroughly enjoyed our oyster pie and pork schnitzel main dishes and the assorted appetizer sampler was great (scrapple? really? I asked and was assured it was - and it was terrific!). Emilia, our server, was efficient, courteous, helpful, and very nice to speak with. the assorted dishes on the Tavern menu guarantees that you have to go back to try it all. Congratulations to the Woodberry team!
Be the first to ReplyWill have to come back for dinner.
We tried to get in for dinner, but couldn't get a reservation. We stopped for a drink after dinner at a nearby restaurant. The restaurant is very small, but has a great bar. Our bartender Steve was amazing. Good drinks and service.
Be the first to Replyterrible experience with event planning
We bought $140 per person tickets [ plus tips] for the New Year's Eve party, which was a splurge and I was excited because of the great gatsby 1923 theme. There were supposed to be era finger food and prohibition cocktails. We left after 5 minutes, there was no space to get comfortable, and there were no chairs or anything to sit or stand while waiting for the two lines for the cocktail bar, where overwhelmed bartenders were attending to a non-moving line. The music was a loud cover band, you could not understand a word you were saying and there was no way to get away from it because the space was so small, and additionally, they had lit a chimney fire [ to make the room extra hot???]. The party was supposed to go from 9-1am, and we arrived at 10pm, and there was no food. After inquiring, they said there was a second serving for the buffet coming, but there was no place to hang out and wait until then, and it was impossible to get a drink because the lines were never ending and not moving [ and did I mention it was hot ....] . Additionally, the cover band was not just blaring some modern tunes so you could not understand a word you were saying, but the singer was literally screeching, you just wanted to put as much distance between you and her as possible [which was impossible given the tightness of the space]. We were trying for 5 minutes to get ourselves situated in that chaos, or at least get some drinks. But there was no help from the hosts. Woodberry was busy running their regular tavern business in their other rooms. If that is supposed to be the new event-and-catering-Woodberry kitchen - well you lost me. This was an outrageous fail. Complete mismanagement and poor planning on how to accommodate people and make your guests comfortable and how to get food and drinks fast enough to that number of people. We cut our losses [the tickets were outrageously expensive for that type of understaffed and unplanned event ] and we went to bluebird where we encountered a cheery, spacious, and laid-back atmosphere with good music and a fast-forward service that we had come to expect for this evening.
Be the first to ReplyJolanta + Woodberry Kitchen Team are STELLAR!
My experience at Woodberry Kitchen was top notch! I had my rehearsal dinner here and all of my friends and family raved over the foot, atmosphere, and service. Jolanta knows how to customize each experience and make every client feel so special. She knew I loved burrata and worked with the chef to make a custom burrata and tomato salad. It was scrumptious! The vibe is chic and intimate. The space is very versatile and can accommodate many size groups. Don't hesitate to have your event at Woodberry Kitchen! We love Jolanta and the culinary team!
Be the first to Replygreat dinner experience with the family
We really enjoyed the food and drinks and service were great and immaculate table setting at the back yard
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food but disappointing service
We had dinner there and as usual in the past, our food was delicious and we very much enjoyed the setting and the live jazz players. Our two appetizers were the best: spicy and smoky chicken wings and mushroom and oysters au gratin. We were much enjoyed our main dishes too and one of the desserts, the waffle cone, was outstanding. However, one of our servers was completely blasé and had a terrible attitude. He actually threw the check on our table before our desserts had arrived. We do understand that there is a time limit on staying at the table but this happened within the time limit. Also, twice during the meal, it was difficult to get a server’s attention even though they have a system in place to flag a server. We have come regularly to Woodberry Kitchen for the past 13 years and this is the first time we had impersonal service.
Be the first to ReplyIn this crazy summer, nothing felt more "normal" than scrumptious outdoor dining at the Woodberry Kitchen.
Superb outdoor dining experience at Woodberry Kitchen. Service was timely, knowledgeable, yet unobtrusive. Standout dishes included both the tomato salad and clam toast appetizer, and particularly the main course, the "Don Taco" with pork shoulder. It was a true stand-out dish, and more than large enough to share. Atmosphere was great, aided by the rare (these days) pleasure of hearing live music from Baltimore folk-singer extraordinaire, Caleb Stine. Large umbrellas over tables, and plenty of space between them made this a worry-free evening, no matter the weather. Also wanted to call out the excellent responsiveness from Rita, who helped out with a reservation mix-up (caused by me)! reservation. Extensive and creative drink menu. My only suggested improvement would be to please introduce a few additional wines at or below the $50 price point--there are plenty of excellent options available. Can't wait to return!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service and food!
Lovely atmosphere for outdoor dining. Our waiter was awesome and very knowledgeable. Received all food and drinks in a timely manner. Everything was delicious. They even provided a small dessert for our wedding anniversary. Cannot wait to return again.
Be the first to ReplyI was there for a business
I was there for a business meeting and enjoyed rustic setting and great staff. We had a set menu with family style service. Delicious salad and entrees of rock fish , chicken were delicious - rigatoni not as good. Difficult to find - I did not see a valet and sign in front, small and hard to see. Parked in lot above it and was fine. Need more information to find would be good idea. Would like to come with husband.
Be the first to ReplyYou can feel the energy of this popular place as soon as you walk in!
We arrived for our reservation and we were soon seated. (I highly recommend reservations to this extremely popular and busy place.) The decor of this old foundry with the open kitchen and wonderful lights on the exposed brick really added to the cozy, charming atmosphere. The hostess was friendly and welcoming. We had the best table in the house as it was a booth right by the kitchen. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the cooks/chefs at the 3 different stations working throughout the evening. I ordered a 1/2 bottle of Alexander Valley Vineyards Merlot for $30. We heard that the Deviled Eggs, described as chipped ham, fish pepper and parsley that came with 1 1/2 eggs for $4 were great. They were tasty but they didn’t blow my socks off. For my entree I wanted something local that I could not easily get back home so I ordered the Pan-Roasted MD Rockfish which the menu described as whipped sun chokes, oyster & cremini mushrooms, and mustard frills for $35. It was very nice, but again did not amaze me. The fish had a nice crust to it and was tender inside, but the dish was rather bland and not especially flavorful. My husband took the hostess’s suggestion and ordered the Cast Iron Chicken & Biscuit which came with braised greens, carrots and pan sauce for $31. Despite the ordinary name, he thought it was pretty amazing. The chicken was tender and infused with a wonderful flavor. My husband loves hot sauces so we purchased a bottle of their signature Snake Oil to take back home with us. The concept of supporting local farmers is great and should hopefully mean that you're getting fresh food, but I've found that this doesn't necessarily mean you're getting the most flavorful or tasty dishes. But this place seemed to have the synergy that popular places have and we really enjoyed our visit.
Be the first to ReplyFood great. Reservation, not so much. Full disclosure would be a great policy.
We made a reservation through Open Table at Woodberry Kitchen for Saturday night. Busy to say the least. We were on time to the minute for our 7:15 reservation. Place was slammed. Bar was slammed. Zero places to stand let alone try to sit at the bar. Hostess area was slammed with people waiting for their "reserved" table. We were seated at 7:45. The manager or head waiter, Matt, kindly offered us a cocktail on the house, a nice gesture. Drinks were great. As were the oysters with the various toppings. The rockfish was one of the best prepared pieces of fish I've ever consumed. So why only a 4/5 review? Two, well maybe 3 things: 1)The place was so slammed that people were LITERALLY hanging their arms into our heads as we ate and they either waited or talked in the general slammed vicinity of the bar. I had to ask 3 different people to back off. WK can afford to put up something, anything, to raise that partition a foot. Opaque glass, glass block, jagged glass (kidding), something. That's just f&^%#@g annoying for the price of the place;2)I asked for 2 glasses of 'house' chardonnay. She offered 2 choices, oaked and unoaked. I chose oaked. The bill reflected $19 a glass. C'mon folks, that's not a house wine. At 6 glasses a bottle that's a $114 'house' bottle of wine. Not disclosed. Maybe they upcharged me to backfill for the 'complimentary' cocktail. 3) I get it. It was a chilly evening, a romantic, eclectic restaurant where people may be celebrating, but on my way to the restroom I happen to pass two women sucking face so violently that it seemed more like a place on The Block than WK. Is there no place for any decorum anymore? Dear God, if you can afford WK, which by the way with one app, one dessert and "free" cocktails was $217 including tip, you can afford a hotel or motel room or take a chill and put a hold on the passion for a couple hours. Valet parking is nice. Complimentary, too.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food but drinks very expensive.
Shared a crab sharing plate as a starter between 3 and then each of us had the steak. Food was good - steak cooked perfectly. However some of the potatoes were slightly hard in the middle. The drinks however are extremely expensive - $12 for the smallest glass of hard cider. No more than a 1/4 of a pint. Very disappointed. Brilliant service however and food so hence the rating.
