We had a great meal at Torishin! We sat at the counter so were able to see the chef and staff prepare the different yakitori skewers. We choose to try the omakase special with the wagyu and iberico pork. Each piece was well seasoned and came out quickly, one after the other. At the end, we had dessert; a Japanese strawberry and panna cotta.I would recommend one to try Torishin at least once. The staff there were very attentive and we had a great time!

You're in for a big bill but it is the premium dining experience at Torishin. At the select counter you get an omakase dinner with a choice to do Wagu and Iberico or both. We chose both. The chef, Urashi-san, was clearly an expert at his craft. He wielded the fan and tongs with confidence and kept the bites coming at a perfect pace. You get to enjoy the whole chicken from from beak to tail (yes they have a tail) and then some specialty dishes along the way. On my next visit, I'd probably not opt for the Imberico ham. Just a personal preference on how it is prepared as the pork was medium rare and I can think of so many better ways to eat Imberico. Tips for first-time visitors:1. Learn how to say "Itadakimasu" and use it before you eat. Youtube will give you a quick tutorial and you will be happy you learned.2. You do not have to eat at the select counter. And, the restaurant has much more seating in the main dining that is a far less expensive option.3. They do not open a minute early. Get reservations and don't fuss about the line. When they do open, they quickly seat everyone.

Our child developed a fever the evening before our meal and the restaurant refused to waive the $100 cancellation policy despite several phone calls, efforts on our part to reschedule, and being a customer since 2016

Don't plan the table unless you are sure you will not get sick the evening before as they are unforgiving with their $500 cancellation fee, regardless of your updated health and COVID status. The restaurant preferred us go dine with COVID than cancel our reservation for us.

Went for the first time last Saturday night and had the omakase at the counter for $125. Service is very gracious and very prompt which was great and the chicken yakitori was tasty as was the scallop special, wagyu beef and iberico pork. I have to say that all the chicken tasted moist but pretty much all the same. The Shiso ice was fantastic. The uni special that was suggested by the hostess was dry and flavorless as was the ground chicken rice bowl. The uni was definitely the biggest disappointment of the night. The sake list is way overpriced at about 5x the cost. Overall, i think the menu is overpriced and underperforms.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious yakitori! Maybe the best place in the city.
Service is very good. Ambiance is lovely. You can actually hear each other over dinner!

My colleague who was visiting from London praised about this place so I gave it a try with high hopes. And the fact that it had Michelin stars. But unfortunately I left without any wow factors. I did enjoy the following skewers: chicken thigh, pork belly and duck breast. Chicken hot pot, sea urchin and scallop dishes were good as well. However, on the scallop dish, my friend bit on a tiny piece of shell while chewing on a scallop. Good thing she didn't bleed. The gizzard and fried tofu dishes were extremely salty. The potato, mushrooms and panna cotta were mediocre. Service was pretty good.

Sit by the bar and let the chef cook for you. Eat slow to savor all the items served. Many small skewer items and appetizers presented. It's not one big platter that comes to you. Which was great, you can eat slowly and must enjoy a glass of wine with it. You can also have the regular menu instead. Food is very fresh. Not overly cooked. Definitely make reservations.

Thoroughly enjoyed the 15-course dinner and strongly recommend sitting at the Select Counter when making your reservation. We had the great fortune to sit right in front on Tatsu, the head chef, and that really elevated our experience!! Our favorites were the chicken oysters, wagyu, everything with shiso in it (I'm def going to grow that next summer), and the veggies were amazing!! However, every single thing was delicious!! Food and service were outstanding; wonderful way to spend our last evening in NYC!
Be the first to ReplyVery overpriced for what you get.
I found the skewers ok and the sushi eh. For the $210 per person price point it was so not worth it. But the service was solicitous and attentive. However I went on someone else's dime and some of the dishes were good (most mediocre) so I while I wasn't impressed, I wasn't upset. Until I got home. Shortly after I got home I had cramps and became cold and clammy. I not only had diarrhea but threw up everything I ate. Not a fun evening. So all in all, beware since it seems I got a rancid case of food poisoning here.
