Apparently I didn't know this before, but you're not supposed to spend that much money on Yakitori, because it can never be really good? I still believe there is amazing Yakitori out there, but Torishin unfortunately did not hit the mark.I ordered the counter tasting, which consisted of quite a few appetizers (cold), and then the Yakitori set began. You start with some radish and cucumbers -- I think they are palate cleansers, but honestly, they have so little flavor idk if they are good for anything. I also felt like the pieces were too big, so I didn't really end up eating it at all. Then came a set of cold dishes which...I have to be honest, I can't really find much good about them. They were plated fancy, but the colors were muted, and everything was just pretty bland. There were boiled potatoes (?), some chewy thing that might've been octopus, dyed pink, a cold chicken leg, and another potato on rice? Maybe I just don't understand this type of food, but nothing tasted "good." It was just cold, hard, rubbery, and lacking any clear cut flavor. Now onto the main show...the skewers. The first one that came out was chicken thigh with way too much wasabi on it. I would say I have a normal wasabi tolerance, and this was like 3-5x more than I would normally eat. The chicken itself was not seasoned that much (light salt), and honestly was a bit dry. Not savory at all. The chicken elbow that came next was probably the best skewer all night. The only skewer that was savory and had good texture to it. Mushroom skewer was solid, but everything else was pretty mediocre. The A5 wagyu portion is tiny, and it's just ok, and the pork belly was nothing special either. Meatballs were too tough, but the fish soup at the end was ok.Overall for skewers: too bland, not easy to eat, not savory.I should add that the sake list is pretty limited, and is quite pricey for the quality they have.Especially for a Michelin-starred establishment, this was a huge disappointment.
