We had a great meal at Torishin! We sat at the counter so were able to see the chef and staff prepare the different yakitori skewers. We choose to try the omakase special with the wagyu and iberico pork. Each piece was well seasoned and came out quickly, one after the other. At the end, we had dessert; a Japanese strawberry and panna cotta.I would recommend one to try Torishin at least once. The staff there were very attentive and we had a great time!

You're in for a big bill but it is the premium dining experience at Torishin. At the select counter you get an omakase dinner with a choice to do Wagu and Iberico or both. We chose both. The chef, Urashi-san, was clearly an expert at his craft. He wielded the fan and tongs with confidence and kept the bites coming at a perfect pace. You get to enjoy the whole chicken from from beak to tail (yes they have a tail) and then some specialty dishes along the way. On my next visit, I'd probably not opt for the Imberico ham. Just a personal preference on how it is prepared as the pork was medium rare and I can think of so many better ways to eat Imberico. Tips for first-time visitors:1. Learn how to say "Itadakimasu" and use it before you eat. Youtube will give you a quick tutorial and you will be happy you learned.2. You do not have to eat at the select counter. And, the restaurant has much more seating in the main dining that is a far less expensive option.3. They do not open a minute early. Get reservations and don't fuss about the line. When they do open, they quickly seat everyone.

Our child developed a fever the evening before our meal and the restaurant refused to waive the $100 cancellation policy despite several phone calls, efforts on our part to reschedule, and being a customer since 2016

Don't plan the table unless you are sure you will not get sick the evening before as they are unforgiving with their $500 cancellation fee, regardless of your updated health and COVID status. The restaurant preferred us go dine with COVID than cancel our reservation for us.

Went for the first time last Saturday night and had the omakase at the counter for $125. Service is very gracious and very prompt which was great and the chicken yakitori was tasty as was the scallop special, wagyu beef and iberico pork. I have to say that all the chicken tasted moist but pretty much all the same. The Shiso ice was fantastic. The uni special that was suggested by the hostess was dry and flavorless as was the ground chicken rice bowl. The uni was definitely the biggest disappointment of the night. The sake list is way overpriced at about 5x the cost. Overall, i think the menu is overpriced and underperforms.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious yakitori! Maybe the best place in the city.
Service is very good. Ambiance is lovely. You can actually hear each other over dinner!

My colleague who was visiting from London praised about this place so I gave it a try with high hopes. And the fact that it had Michelin stars. But unfortunately I left without any wow factors. I did enjoy the following skewers: chicken thigh, pork belly and duck breast. Chicken hot pot, sea urchin and scallop dishes were good as well. However, on the scallop dish, my friend bit on a tiny piece of shell while chewing on a scallop. Good thing she didn't bleed. The gizzard and fried tofu dishes were extremely salty. The potato, mushrooms and panna cotta were mediocre. Service was pretty good.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service.
Sit by the bar and let the chef cook for you. Eat slow to savor all the items served. Many small skewer items and appetizers presented. It's not one big platter that comes to you. Which was great, you can eat slowly and must enjoy a glass of wine with it. You can also have the regular menu instead. Food is very fresh. Not overly cooked. Definitely make reservations.

Thoroughly enjoyed the 15-course dinner and strongly recommend sitting at the Select Counter when making your reservation. We had the great fortune to sit right in front on Tatsu, the head chef, and that really elevated our experience!! Our favorites were the chicken oysters, wagyu, everything with shiso in it (I'm def going to grow that next summer), and the veggies were amazing!! However, every single thing was delicious!! Food and service were outstanding; wonderful way to spend our last evening in NYC!
Be the first to ReplyVery overpriced for what you get.
I found the skewers ok and the sushi eh. For the $210 per person price point it was so not worth it. But the service was solicitous and attentive. However I went on someone else's dime and some of the dishes were good (most mediocre) so I while I wasn't impressed, I wasn't upset. Until I got home. Shortly after I got home I had cramps and became cold and clammy. I not only had diarrhea but threw up everything I ate. Not a fun evening. So all in all, beware since it seems I got a rancid case of food poisoning here.
Be the first to ReplyOverall the experience from walking in to ending our dinner
Overall the experience from walking in to ending our dinner was exceptional. We reserved select counter for omakase experience. Most of the items on the menu were great, but some where relatively plain and nothing special for the price tag. The food kept coming and at some moments it felt a bit rushed. Chef was very friendly and entire atmosphere was great. Some items that we were looking to try they did not have that day and it was a bit disappointing. I would definitely recommend the place, but maybe would advise to try main hall for the dinner experience vs select counter as I found it to be a bit overpriced for the experience.
Be the first to ReplyAmbience/Vibe: 3/5.
That bamboo aesthetic prevalent in Japanese restaurants. Not enough soundproofing between tables, as we were forced to endure the loud, drunken conversation of the super basic ABGs next to us.Service: 3/5. Our server copped a major 'tude for most of our meal, for reasons unknown to me. The rest of the staff seemed friendly.Food: 3/5. It's stuff on skewers. They were out of a LOT of items, including all the seasonable vegetables. Why? In short, some hits, some misses, mostly fine but not super memorable. The Hits:- Thigh meat with yuzukosho- Chicken meatball- Heart, Gizzard- Duck breast- Asparagus, Okra- Broiled Aburi-uniThe Eh: - Breast meat with plum and shiso- Chicken and duck meatball- Rib, Pork Belly- Cioppino Onion, Shiitake, Shishito, TomatoThe Misses:- Crispy Skin Plate: not very crispy and not worth $20- Kiji-don: Too much rice, not enough chicken

Check it out, you'll be surprised by how much you may actually enjoy it. Sit at the counter for a better experience. The omakase was an enjoyable experience and the full staff were kind and attentive. The yakitori was legit delicious and quite a big difference between what you can get elsewhere. Albeit expensive, I thought the overall experience was worth it.Each piece was tender and juicy, grilled to perfection. The waygu was to die for. Also surprisingly, the shiitake mushroom which I eat often was elevated to a different level here.We also ordered a bottle of sake which I thought was reasonably priced. Desert was simple but well executed. I was afraid I would leave hungry, but do not fret the course will no doubt leave you feeling way full.
Be the first to ReplyA fun experience overall as there are not many yakitori
A fun experience overall as there are not many yakitori places in NYC. But the food could be better.Food: 3/5Value: 3/5Service: 4/5 We got the $100 chef's omakase. The skewers were good, but maybe a little lacking in flavor. The skewers did not deliver the impact that you'd expect from a high end yakitori restaurant. The skewers in the omakase were also the generic skewers, nothing special or unique, and when we tried to order some of the ones that we felt like were special, they were sold out. The wagyu was ok, I've definitely had better wagyu, but this is a yakitori restaurant so I can't complain too much.

Going to restaurant with $$$$ you expect everything to be excellent or close to excellent. I cannot say bad things about food except edamame beans which of course not so important in the place where excellent chicken. But having soft and squishy kind of edamame was disappointing. It was or badly cooked or badly frozen/unfrozen. Omakase menu was really amazing. But then I went to bathroom and then my glaze felt onto walls and ceiling. Bathroom smells musty and moldy. Walls in the dining area are dirty and disgusting to watch. Idk what makes owners of the restaurant not to be clean. Laziness with the fact that the place is popular? Idk it doesn't seem so much "japanese" to me after all. Most likely i will not be returning
Be the first to ReplyApparently I didn't know this before, but you're not
Apparently I didn't know this before, but you're not supposed to spend that much money on Yakitori, because it can never be really good? I still believe there is amazing Yakitori out there, but Torishin unfortunately did not hit the mark.I ordered the counter tasting, which consisted of quite a few appetizers (cold), and then the Yakitori set began. You start with some radish and cucumbers -- I think they are palate cleansers, but honestly, they have so little flavor idk if they are good for anything. I also felt like the pieces were too big, so I didn't really end up eating it at all. Then came a set of cold dishes which...I have to be honest, I can't really find much good about them. They were plated fancy, but the colors were muted, and everything was just pretty bland. There were boiled potatoes (?), some chewy thing that might've been octopus, dyed pink, a cold chicken leg, and another potato on rice? Maybe I just don't understand this type of food, but nothing tasted "good." It was just cold, hard, rubbery, and lacking any clear cut flavor. Now onto the main show...the skewers. The first one that came out was chicken thigh with way too much wasabi on it. I would say I have a normal wasabi tolerance, and this was like 3-5x more than I would normally eat. The chicken itself was not seasoned that much (light salt), and honestly was a bit dry. Not savory at all. The chicken elbow that came next was probably the best skewer all night. The only skewer that was savory and had good texture to it. Mushroom skewer was solid, but everything else was pretty mediocre. The A5 wagyu portion is tiny, and it's just ok, and the pork belly was nothing special either. Meatballs were too tough, but the fish soup at the end was ok.Overall for skewers: too bland, not easy to eat, not savory.I should add that the sake list is pretty limited, and is quite pricey for the quality they have.Especially for a Michelin-starred establishment, this was a huge disappointment.

Unreal. We did Omakase but also asked the chef for additional lessor known cuts - gizzard and wing were great add-ons. The atmosphere is clean, welcoming and authentic. I have sat a table and at the bar. Shoot for the bar. Watching the cooking process and interacting with the chef's really brings the experience to life. I honestly don't have a lot of additional points to make. It its the best yakitori I have ever had. If you're a veteran or new to yakitori, I couldn't imagine you'd have a bad time.
Be the first to ReplyFriend snagged 4 seats for the counter seating.
Service here was excellent as the chef makes everything in front of you. Corn chowder with foie gras sauce - corn soup and savory with Amberjack - too tough Bonito - so soGiant Clam - tastes like the ocean Ikura - favorite Squid / quail egg / ginger - slimy from the raw egg, super chewy Fish eggs - paired with daikon it's really good. Grilled unagi - amazing. Chicken filet thigh - delicious, Better than thigh ย itself Chicken heart - Chicken rib - chewy, really soft Chicken tail - pretty fatty, Oyster - outside a bit burnt so hard to taste the chicken. A5 wagyu - really good, soft fatty but the wasabi helps balance it LCold udon - tobiko broth, el dente Chicken duck meatball Deep fried tofu - tastes like an agedashi

We made New Year's Eve dinner at Torishin as part of our winter vacation plan. Our family loves Japanese food and wanted to try some local famous place. The food did not disappoint us. My kids initially wasn't super thrill that we deviated from usual steak dinner to Yakitori but was loving the chicken skewers by the end of the course. The adult had 100 dollar omekase and we ordered 75 dollar sets for my two teenagers. Good experience!

Amazing atmosphere! The minute you walk through the door you're greeted by the sweetest, friendliest staff! Waiters are extremely attentive, and gave fabulous suggestions! The food was amazing, and you can really tell just how fresh the food is! Highly recommend if you're on your way to a broadway show or just looking for amazing food!

Because of their limited menu offerings due to this whole Covid BS, I didn't feel like I got the full on experience that many who've been here before me are raving about. They had every safety precaution in place to combat the C virus so that was comforting. Onto the food! The yakitori skewers were solid and not very memorable. All the ugly bits I like to order weren't available and so having just chicken thigh and just chicken wing was just ok. Really enjoyed their sliced roe special, so much so, that we ordered another. I'll have to come back here when they are back to a full menu. But it's a solid spot.

I am surprised how this restaurant survived from pandemic. Skewer Omakase dinner is definitely over priced with at least 5 courses chicken skewers. Duplicates! Cheap ingredients. Tiny pieces of wagu beef. Very boring selection. Space is very cramped. Not good for picture at all. No WiFi. Service is just fine. Not again. Not recommended. Regrettable. I had better before at Totto!
Be the first to ReplyGot the yakitori omakase here and it was a great
Got the yakitori omakase here and it was a great experience, although I think I prefer sushi omakase over yakitori. The dishes were all delicious, mostly vegetable and chicken-based. My favorites were the chicken oyster and grilled okra - I have never had okra that tasty. For the rice-based dish, I wish I had gotten something other than the grilled chicken option since that one tasted like something I could easily get at a regular japanese restaurant, nothing special (although the chicken broth that came with it had amazing flavor!). For the main meat dish, my bf got the pork and I got the wagyu so we could try each others'. Both of us liked the wagyu more so I'd def recommend that one over the pork. It literally melted in my mouth and tasted more unique than the pork. As for dessert, I highly recommend the panna cotta! It was the perfect level of semisweet. My bf got the green tea ice cream and I liked it a lot too bc it was very much on the bitter matcha, authentic side (which is so much better than the overly sweet matcha ice cream most restaurants give), but the panna cotta still won for me. The experience is 2 hours and don't expect to finish early. Service was absolutely wonderful, they had a coat check and the staff were all so polite and welcoming. Overall, it was an experience worth having but it'll probably just be a one time thing for me since yakitori is not my preferred choice for omakase!
Be the first to ReplyNice ambience and service was attentive.
but the food was disappointing- for $100/ head "special omakase" , you only get one piece of mid-quality beef with way too many chicken dishes. ย We spent ย $280 for 2 for the dinner, and they would charge $3 when we needed a bit extra sauce. Seriously?!
