Phenomenal food and phenomenal service.
Stopped here for lunch while walking around Vienna, and what a great choice it was!

Centrally located, this coffee/light fare / bar has all the attributes of a restaurant while preserving the charm of a viennese caffee. The waiters are courteous and prompt, the little outdoor tables are covered with white napkins. It was cold but there are warmers everywhere on the wall .The white wine was excellent and the simple soups of the day well made: We had the a beef bouillon with a dollop of semolina and pumpkin soup. Both were good. The little sandwiches of freshly sliced ham on the bone were good as well. This small but delightful lunch did not break the bank either.I will come back for sure !

Reservation is highly recommended, although we were able to snag a same-day reservation. Our experience started a bit choppy - upon arrival, there was no hostess to check you in. The place was very disorganized, which is ironic for a society that follows strict orders. Although we had a reservation, we had difficulty flagging anyone down to check-in for a table. Once we got seated, the service did become much better. The restaurant offered both tasting menus (72.50 euros and 98.50 euros) and a la carte. Since we weren't too hungry, we decided to order from the menu. For appetizers, we both enjoyed the intense beef soup and the ham dish. The presentation on the ham was outstanding. Both dishes were delicious but met expectations (I guess it is hard to surprise our palates given we are from NYC).For entrees, we went with the most traditional Viennese dishes - schnitzel and beef goulash. I didn't have a very good experience with goulash when I visited Prague a while back. The goulash here, while it didn't change my mind much, was better than the experience I had in Prague. But okay to skip unless you are a big goulash fan. The veal schnitzel was surprisingly light and flavorful. The portions were huge tho, so it can easily be shared by 2.The sommelier helped pick out wines that paired well with our dishes. At the end of the meal, our bill was 120 euros with two appetizers, two entrees, and four glasses of wine (plus the cover charge of 4.5 euros each). From the pricing standpoint, this was definitively a great experience. But did the good here blow my mind? Certainly not...

I'm here in Austria for a conference and I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch today. Schwarzen Kameel is located right next to Prada, where one of the associates recommended I stop by (as this has typical food that the locals indulge). I ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese (with Austrian veal) and a Riesling. Both were excellent. I did some people watching before shopping again. The service was excellent (for the most part). Check them out if you're in Vienna (they have menu options for everyone.

I strongly recommend this place! Great for people watching while having drinks for happy hour or enjoying a meal. Guests are a nice mix of locals and tourists. Service is crisp and friendly. This is where we had one of our most pleasant meals in Vienna.
Be the first to ReplyPeak people watching.
The food is generally always good but sit outside if you can, under the heaters when cold out, and watch the people go by. It's easy to spend an extra hour or two here after you dine because it's such a scene.

We came here on our first night out in district 1 during our vacation to Vienna. It is located in the heart of Vienna and perfect to grab a glass of wine before continuing shopping or before grabbing dinner. This place had the best schnitzel! It was definitely great to be pair with the tangy potato salad. I have never had potato salad like that in the states. The service was impeccable and the wine choices were vast. It is a great place to grab food and drinks with friends. There is also an outside area to eat and drink with heated lamps. This place is definitely a spot to go to when in Vienna.

It's been a minute since I really sat down and appreciated a good omelette, but that's exactly what happened at Zum Schwarzen Kameel during a leisurely Sunday breakfast. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere?Zum Schwarzen Kameel almost feels like an upscale British hotel tea house given the starch shirted servers and the more quiet and measured atmosphere, but the service is very good and sets the stage for a comfortable meal regardless of the time of day. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?In retrospect, €10,50 seems like a lot for a ham omelette, but the hand cut bone in ham is the specialty here and it's not a different price point from what I'd pay elsewhere for a good breakfast dish. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?I'm not sure I can even place how, but this was a really fantastic omelette. Fluffy and flavorful egg with chives that encased flavorful and salty ham. Additionally, the apricot spread here with their fresh bread is near impossible to beat. Two Stars. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? It's not that I wouldn't be excited to go back, but the one downfall that I haven't mentioned yet was that the menu for breakfast at Zum Schwarzen Kameel is a bit small, so if you're not an omelette person you might be out of luck. No Star.

Great spot for drinks, people watching and a quick snack on the go in Vienna. Day or night.

This was sort of an emergency find, just wanted a place to sit after a long stroll through the Albertina where my vacation museum back wasn't used to that workout. I went with the lamb gulasch, and it was tasty. A little on the pricey side for what I got (small portion, etc), especially as compared to some of the other restaurants I visited on this trip, but for lunch, it worked just fine. The lamb had...ok flavor. Was certainly tender, but didn't taste all that much like lamb, if I'm honest. Spätzle along side was a nice touch, that was good in the left over gravy. So, if you need a bite for lunch or a cafe to sit at, this will work, not bad at all. But I don't think I would say this is a must go or a thing to seek out while you're in the area.

Two words to describe this restaurant are köstlich and pristine! Food and presentation are on point and the environment is fabulous. This experience is one that you should have when visiting Vienna! Foot-wise you can find traditional fare such as wiener schnitzel as well as delicate cakes and finger foods. Overall, great service and delicious food.

Great service! Very good food despite all the tourists! Very professional staff, nice menu, fresh well prepared food. I had the lamb and my husband the taste of Austria menu.

Great place to eat, decent service but seemed a bit over priced. Food was very good and they had a great wine list!

On a recent Friday night, this was the place to be! Crowded both inside and outside. We had to wait for a inside table due to a cold wind. The asparagus soup was very good and Pork cutlet was outstanding. 3 Sorbets were a perfect dessert. We were not rushed but service was hectic due to the crowd. This is a stand up bar too. We will be back
Be the first to ReplyThe BEST schnitzel in all of Vienna.
Be sure to make a reservation or you will have problems getting a table. What was...WOW-schnitzel GREAT-the local white Austrian wineGOOD-the rectangle sandwiches OKAY - everything ranked higherNEVER AGAIN - nothing, I would return! I don't know how they make their homemade schnitzel so much noticeably better but it is BY FAR better than any other we had in Vienna. Our waiter Wolfie was exceptional in every way. He even told us about the book, so glad he did, I new I had to have that.
