Blue Hill At Stone Barns Tarrytown Reviews from The Last Year

giving 5 stars for the overall experience, but noting that based on food alone, i'd much prefer Le Bernardin or Jean Georges. we started with a tour of the greenhouse. it was a cold rainy night so we didn't see animals or the grounds. but it was still nice to learn about how they try to be sustainable. during out meal, we went to kitchen and sat a table there for a bit, which was interesting, and we got to see Fam Barber in action. i enjoyed the food, but definitely wasn't blown away as i am with, say, le bernadin, jean georges, gabriel kreuther, etc. think i will return to try the cafeteria. will wait awhile before going back to the main restaurant.
First off, what can I say about the wonderful wait staff.
The hostess, Ronnie, was top notch sweet! Then my waitress, Eddy, kept offering us water to keep our thirst quenched. I was utterly happy. Then, we ordered their homemade miso soup! What a treat! My favorite part of the meal was their duck ramen. Such a tender feeling of gratitude. A must visit for a wonderful price!

Came here for a celebratory family dinner after making a reservation a month prior. This place was all about the ambiance. Starting from when we set foot into the whole estate, the attention to detail from the seats, to the fireplace, to the tea while we waited to be seated were fantastic. After entering the main dining room, every plate, cup, and glass we used seems so carefully planned out and unique. There was an intermission halfway during our meal where we were taken to a different room where...bread or butter was made or something? It was the craziest thing I ever imaged to experience as part of a meal. At another point during our meal a whole dead pheasant was brought to our table to show us what it looked like, which was super cool. Service without a doubt was top notch for a fancy restaurant. Food was decent, the emphasis was on the fact that all food were naturally grown. The server poured our candle into our salad at one point, I guess to show that the oil from the candle was made from animals and it's edible. The experience was incredible, food was healthy, but overall I personally would have liked more meat in the meal. I was filled with what seemed like 40 different kinds of vegetables and I was craving meat. Overall would recommend the experience.

We had dinner in the Cafeteria, but there was nothing "cafeteria-like" about it! Beautiful ambience, wonderful wine pairings and food beyond description! Service was dotting, but not overwhelming! Well done, Blue Hill at Stone Barns Cafeteria. I already have plans to join you for breakfast and lunch!
Disappointing
I wanted to love the experience, but found it lacking. It was hard to get excited about a baby carrot and vegetable bulb with sprigs of greens. This was followed by minuscule pieces of lamb and lukewarm vegetables. The service is stellar, but the food was disappointing and pricey.
Terrific farm to table food experience.
A great property and venue for large gatherings yet executing with high quality food and service. Worth the trip.
To be clear, I have never eaten at Blue Hill and never will.
My issue is with their online reservation system which is infuriating. I have been trying to book a special dinner celebration with my wife there for the past year. Every month, I'm ready at 9am sharp for them to release new slots, only to have everything get claimed immediately. It feels as if someone has created a bot to grab all the tables, because the few instances I've snagged a time it's taken before I can even book it. If you're one of the lucky folks, enjoy. If you're about to try, I'd recommend learning from my aggravation, anger and frustration and skipping this place. They may have amazing food, but there are dozens of places that are as good if not better where you can actually make a reservation.

was treated very poorly by a memeber of the staff and was treated unfairly snd dehuminzed where they asked me a question I answered then just stared and did not speak. maybe they were under the influence. I will have to revist this reveiw anotherntime when I'm nable to elborate about what happened.

We dined at their "Family Meal" restaurant in Manhattan the last time I was in town and had an excellent dining experience all around. So, my hubby tried to book dinner at Stone Barn to no avail. We've actually tried every time we go to New York, but we've so far had no luck. But I don't rate a place down because I can't get the reservation. If they're that busy, then I won't hold it against them. My review is strictly on their Lunch Plate. The only reason we went here for lunch, knowing that it is cafeteria-style and self-serve, is that we know they are farm-to-table and grow everything and raise everything right there on their own farm. There were a bunch of people visiting the farm and having lunch outdoors, and the weather was perfect, which made it even more pleasant. However, the food isn't what I expected. It wasn't spectacular like what I've had at their "Family Meal" restaurant. At $45 per lunch plate per person, I feel that it's lacking that tasty factor. Sure, everything was fresh and procured on-site, but it was just meh. I wouldn't recommend going here if you are just looking for lunch. We had tickets to visit Kykuit, Rockefeller Estate, so we made a whole day's trip out of it. We took a train from Grand Central Station, which only took about 40 minutes to get to Tarrytown. Then we did the Estate tour and Ubered to Blue Hill for lunch. There was an event planning going on at the time we were visiting. I think there's a wedding the day after. It's a beautiful venue to get married if you're into that farm vibe. lol
*scary orchestral music plays* Welcome to Blue Hill.
We harvest. We ferment. We slaughter. We marinate. We liquify. We spherify. WE GEL! All The Menu jokes aside, they are doing things like grinding animal bones into ceramic dust to make cups and plates here (among other wild things), and yeah I had the time of my life!!! I've wanted to come to Blue Hill at Stone Barns ever since the Chef's Table episode aired, but the stars never aligned - until my birthday in August 2023. My boyfriend and I celebrated with dinner here, and it exceeded all of our expectations! From the welcome beverage (corn lemonade) and informative tour (wear sun protection!) to the cocktails and kitchen bites, everything was very well thought out. The food menu was expansive, with some of my favorite moments being the onion, lamb and beans, sheep brains and desserts. What truly set Blue Hill apart for me, though, was the service. Our captain Willa was amazing, and all of the staff were eager to chat about food!! It made for a unique experience. (Chef Dan was also at work in the kitchen, which is always cool to see.) All in all, we were there for about 5 hours. A note about transit from NYC: took Metro North and an Uber there, and called an Uber home (was only about a 45 min drive back into the city, so you definitely do not need to stay overnight in Tarrytown or whatever).
Bravo chef 👏
.... I visited this place last month . I really loved the food is Soo special and delicious . Me and my wife . Thanks to this awesome chef 👏👏

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Newbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
