For our first night in Napa, we made ressos (for 6 people) at Boon Fly for 8 pm on a Thursday. It was a late dinner (and I believe they close at 9) so there was probably only another table dining there at the time. Still, we felt welcomed and the service was great. I wish I could remember our waitress's name because she was super nice. We decided to order a bunch of dishes to share. This was probably too much food for six people but we like to eat.
Butter Lettuce Salad (pickled beets, cucumber, feta, toasted sunflower seeds, white balsamic vinaigrette) - it's just a salad but it was the start of a 3-day bach weekend so we already knew we weren't going to be eating healthy, hence the salad
Caesar Salad (roasted red onions, chopped romaine, shaved parmesan, croutons) - same with this one. Plus, you can't go wrong with a Caesar salad
Southern Fried Calamari (grilled lemon, chipotle aioli) - bit too oily for me
Crispy Truffle Fries - not much truffle flavor but any fries are better than no fries
Warm Artichoke Dip (roasted poblano peppers, toasted pita chips) - this was probably my favorite, which I was not expecting. It is a bit decadent but I guess that's the best part. I actually started dipping the crispy truffle fries in it as opposed to the pita bread, and it was a match made in heaven. We ate some of the leftover the next day and it was just as good after a trip to the microwave, as it was the night before
Margherita Pizza (san marzano tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil) - another classic that you can't go wrong with
Mac 'n' Cheese - a little bland and tasted like it was microwaved because the pasta was kind of soggy
Smashed Yukon Gold Potatoes - nice and buttery/creamy. Again, it was rich but worth the splurge of calories
Roasted Asparagus, Lemon Oil, Parmesan - I don't like asparagus but I like this. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and the lemon and parmesan paired well together
Big Glory Bay King Salmon (black eyed peas, charred fennel, snap peas, salmon roe, lemon vinaigrette) - salmon was perfectly cooked and was flavorful
Seared 10oz New York Steak (green garlic crema, tostones, cipollini onions, asparagus, bordelaise) - I really liked the green garlic crema but unfortunately, the steak was chewy, even though it was medium rare
Fried Donuts - we were told that these sometimes sell out during brunch and I can see why. I am not really a fan of sweets but can see how these can be addicting. They're the perfect mini size, and they're not overly sweet
For drinks, I had the Watermelon Martini, which I didn't love but I did appreciate the fact that it wasn't too sweet. Plus, all of the cocktails are presented very well and are really pretty!
Overall, I would say I probably liked half the dishes we got. But I still have dreams of the artichoke dip.
