Chaplin's Restaurant Washington Reviews from The Last Year
Great food reasonable prices.
Pork buns, shumai and chicken curry katsu all super tasty. Great service, friendly and relaxed vibes. When in DC, get out of the bubble near the White House where prices are 3 times what they are just a short 10 minute ride away.
Delivers Every Time
Chaplin is a favorite haunt. The ramen varieties are eclectic but I tend to go more tradition the stamina chasu with extra chasu and bamboo shoots. We also tend to go for the karage chicken which is on point. For the first time we tried dessert and we were very satisfied. We like seats outside rather than the noisy indoor atmosphere.
This is one of the nicer ramen spots you'll come across.
I got the opportunity to try it out in a Sunday afternoon just missed brunch but conveniently in time for their weekend happy hour which runs from 4-7pm. It has a very classic decor with multiple levels, bars, and ample patio seating. The menu features a variety of items such as their mazemen ramen options, standard ramen options in flavors like miso, curry, and shoyu with different available add-ons, and appetizers like chicken and shrimp shumai, karaage, and 4 different gyoza options with prices ranging from $10-$20. During happy hour wines, draft cocktails, and draft beers are 50% off. I ordered a couple of mimosas, pork gyoza, and the Chaplin ramen with chicken substitutes. Service was good there wasn't much of a crowd during that time but the servers were engaged and helpful with recommendations. The pork gyoza were solid with a nice crispy texture on the outside, and the ramen was excellent, a thick delicious broth, fresh tasting ingredients, and the karaage was perfectly fried as well. Overall great dining experience and I definitely recommend checking them out.

We had a great time hosting a birthday dinner on the upstairs floor, big party of 15 and the service was amazing. They did an amazing job staying on top of it and attending to all the people in our group, despite having another huge birthday group in the other room. I was very impressed! Our food and drink tasted really good as well. The server lit the rosemary stem in my drink on fire at the table to smoke out the aromatics which was fun to see. And all the sauces that went with our dishes were very tasty.

Chaplin is a true gem for ramen enthusiasts in DC.
Their one-of-a-kind chicken ramen is an absolute must-try - flavorful, comforting, and truly unforgettable. But that's not all - their happy hour, available seven days a week, is a solid choice for those looking to unwind with delicious drinks and bites. Whether you're craving a satisfying bowl of ramen or seeking a great happy hour spot, Chaplin delivers on all fronts. Don't miss out on this culinary experience! The ambiance and service are solid. The ambiance theme is centered around Charlie Chaplin.
Such great ramen options.
We didn't have reservations but it was a weeknight, so it worked out well and we were seated immediately. I ordered the Chaplin A.S.S., which was the right amount of spicy and sour. I also added a stamina egg and bamboo shoots! The fried wontons were good, but I wasn't mesmerized. The service was slower but once we ordered our food, the ramen came out pretty fast!

The vibes of the restaurant were fun and cozy especially on a cold winter day. We were seated in this nice round booth which had an open view of the restaurant and outside. Service was quick and the food came relatively at the same time. We got the gyoza, wontons, yakisoba, and the vegetarian ramen. The good thing about this menu was the plethora of vegetarian options. We got the vegetarian gyozas prepared steamed but there is the fried option as well. The yakisoba was a bit too sweet but largely flavorless apart from that. The vegetarian ramen was really good! It's hard to find vegetarian ramens generally and finding good vegetarian ramen is even harder. Overall the food was good but nothing extraordinary.

My partner and I frequent Chaplins a few times a month just to get the Chaplin's A.S.S. It is delicious!
The best ramen and drinks.
It's a late night spot I love. With or without reservations, it has been quick to get seated.
Super cool atmosphere.
Great happy hour. The apps were great, the ramen better and dessert finished us right. Cocktails on point with very knowledgeable bar team. Service was perfect. Great for an impromptu date and worth the trip from Alexandria. Washington Post article was right. Will make this one of our new spots. Management and team here really has it together.
happy hour and overall vibes were great.
my drink was delish, and affordable. ramen was okay, not great. still on the hunt for the best ramen in DC. service was fast, attentive and reminded us when the happy hour was about to close which was much appreciated!
A friend and I went here for dinner last night.
The place is very cozy and quaint in the Shaw neighborhood. We had a reservation that we got pretty fast and the table was ready when we arrived. The reason I gave 4 instead of 5 is because the bartender seems like they didn't want to be bothered last night. I understand everyone has a bad or off day, which I am not taking that away, and I will probably come again for happy hour. We got there in the middle of happy hour, and we were seated upstairs at the bar area. For the cocktails, we ordered the A Day of Pleasure and Woman in Paris. We realized cocktails are literally the same ingredients minus one ingredient. They drinks were really strong and tasted more like an old fashioned without the smoke. We order the gyoza appetizer and the mazemen Ramen.. The dumplings were great, and the ramen was very flavorful. Overall we had a great time, it was a bit of noise but that was expected due to it being happy hour time. I can tell they are always filled because the food is really good. Will definitely plan to return in the future, maybe during the summer, to experience outdoor seating.

Friendly greeting when we first walked in and the food and ambiance was great. Loved how they have mouth wash and mints in the restrooms. Going back tonight!
Had a boys night dinner here.
Great vibes! I made a Saturday night 7 pm reservation the week before just in case and I'm glad I did. The restaurant was packed when we visited. The traditional Gyoza and Fried Wontons were tasty and great for sharing. I would order these again. I was also happy with the Chaplin Ramen and my vegetarian friend was happy with the Veggie Shio Ramen. Good food that doesn't break the bank. Definitely plan to come back here.

Had a delicious meal at Chaplin's with colleagues. We were well advised on which starters to take to share. The atmosphere in the restaurant was good. Staff friendly. The food tasty.
Payday Injected dumplings not worth the price.
Payday Injected Dumplings…. Expensive for what you get. $16 for 4 small not well flavored dumplings. Would not recommend

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
