Grill me some meat.
One of Nancy Silverston’s trio of restaurant, Osteria Mozza, Pizzeria Mozza and Chi Spacca in the sprawling Melrose.
Chi Spacca is basically Nancy’s passion for meat, specifically grilled meat which I’ve watched from her shows in Italy.
The highlight are the 36oz and 50 oz Florentino (Tuscany) steaks but for three of us that’s a lot of meat. We wanted our dear friend to experience the feast at Chi Spacca and their amazing tomahawk Porkchop., rubbed with salt and spices and grilled for 45 minutes.
Our feast started with pane bianco with fresh burrata cheese (TDF), their Cesar salad though a little too citrusy for our taste, the Mediterranean octopus was chewy and chargrilled to perfection.
The first course arrived, the lobster pie with a soft and flaky crust was abundant with lobster meat and veggies. The the second course porcini-rubbed short ribs and that salsa verde added the extra “what is that beautiful flavor” taste in your mouth experience. And the final course finally arrived, the grilled tomahawk porkchop with the juicy meat and salted fennel rub. We laughed and said the only missing part for Filipinos are rice and lechon sauce.
To cleanse the palate, we tried the sorbet. A combination of citrusy passion fruit and sweet raspberries was perfect.
Our friend said the words perfectly, we don’t eat to get full you can buy that everywhere, we eat to experience great cooking. To add to that great food is even made better with great friends when you break bread. Service was impeccable catering to our needs and food were timed accordingly. Next time we have to save room for the 50 is dry-aged porterhouse.
You better like your steak rare….
… and with lots of attitude. We made the terrible mistake to order two steaks ( one each ) and we dared to ask to have them “ medium well “. Che orrore…. The waitress told us, first politely and then with some attitude, that the chef will only cook them rare just like they do in Italy ( funny, I was born in Milan and I don’t recall, while growing up there, to have had this kind of issue ). Anyway, after a few more minutes she finally said “ I will ask to have the steaks cooked medium well but they will come out rear. You can send them back and ask to have them cooked longer but I can’t guarantee what you might end up getting “. REALLY ? Than she said: have the chicken is delicious! ( I despise chicken ). Of course we left, we have no time to waste in restaurants that treat their customers this way. One advise for this restaurant: put a warning sign on your website that says “ no matter how you like your steak the chef will only cook it the way he likes “. Never Again !

The room is pleasant but deafening. Service is friendly and there's an extensive and very good wine list. The food comes heavily salted, salt apparently being the kitchen's principal culinary idea. By heavily, I mean just this side of edible-- salty enough to obscure whatever other spices and tastes might inhere in a dish. Who knows why this is, but for me and my friend, that it is is enough to insure we'd never go back.

We want just high grade steak and veggie.
This had been several times came to the germ of LA for steak. Ordered 16 oz rib eye! Came out to
Perfection and side dishes of sweet corn and baby brocolly. Never failed just plain spectacular!! We will come again. One of the best place for us! 👏🏽
Outstanding
The entrance is through their small retail/take-out area then you are seated in a cozy dining room with an open kitchen with a large wood-fired oven. The food from start to finish was outstanding. The focaccia de recco was especially delicious - I could have made a whole meal out of that. Service was attentative but not pushy. We asked our server what he would have if he were a customer - the answer: milk roasted pork loin. It was the best prepared piece of pork I have ever tasted. I was so impressed that I had to purchase some fennel pollen on my way out to try to replicate at home.
Be the first to ReplyCold, rude, poorly prepared
The food was poorly prepared and poorly seasoned. It was served very cold and the service was rude and it often seemed like we were forgotten about. Very overpriced for terrible food and service.

I have been wanting to bring my son to come to this magnificent steak place.
Finally we were able to come with them.
We ordered fried age T Bone steak, for the main course, salad, Focaccia bread, sweet corns, Brocolini and creamy mashed potatoes.
I had come to Chi Spacca a few times and rave about it and they delivered to perfection. Steak was tasty and one of the best. Truly amazing and we ordered all dessert to closed the dinner.
Bravo Chi Spacca
Excellent food but pricey
My wife and I were in town visiting my brother and his wife. We ate here on Saturday night. We had the foccacia which was amazing. We also had the pickled veggies and the hot salami to start. We also had the bone in strip steak and the whole chicken. The bread under the chicken was amazing. Very good but also very expensive.

Carnivore's Heaven One of a kind culinary experience. Buy one of the great steaks and while you wait for perfection, indulge in toasted bread bathed in steak drippings and crusts, charcuterie, and an assortment of olives. Wonderful celebration place. Went for my birthday and there were 4 others celebrating theirs! Very expensive and worth every penny
Be the first to ReplyToo many problems with the food and unpleasant restaurant
Dishes varied in quality. Butter lettuce salad with lemon dill delicious. Flatbread greasy. Charcuterie fair. Garlic bread great and very good asparagus with morels. Lamb shoulder chop cooked medium well and tasteless. Steaks with heavy, salty rub, which is fine. But they will not cook to order. One was medium rare, and the other $200 steak was overcooked toward medium. Ruined. Very expensive, and half the restaurant was expense account business parties. Wine list with little to drink at reasonable prices, and a 2013 Barolo should not have been placed on the menu for another 10 years; far too young. Service perfunctory and below par, and manager both unctuous and condescending when asked to turn down the pounding rock music. He said they like it that way. No chance for conversation. So, some good items but a thoroughly unpleasant dining experience.
