We had a late night reservation midweek! The place was hoppin! Beautiful welcome and we were a bit early! We were seated and we had a complimentary bday proseco! Great table and lots of luvin attention! We had the best servers that made us laugh and smile and they were as excited for us as we were excited to eat and savour!!! The food!!!!!! 5 courses! Surprise extras! It was delicious tasting vegetarian and creative and beyond wonderful! We had slushy cocktails instead of wine ! I would return again to try a new season! We had so much fun! We were treated so well! Ambience and joy and food that was amazing!

I am still trying to figure out what makes Dirt Candy so popular. Or is it ?!? Went there after good recommendations but what a let down. Leaving me to wonder at the effect of social media. Only one course was good. Zucchini item. Rest were bad experiments. The last round - a huge platter of corn in various shapes and textures - was the last nail in the coffin. In between the server gave us small appetizers saying they were special for us but we saw every table being served the same โspecial for usโ items. If the experience of the evening was not enough next day turned out to be a real bad bout of diarrhea ! Dirt candy - emperors clothes or shall we just call it Dirty Candy
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best meals I've ever had
If I lived in NYC, I would be dining here each time the new menu was released. Considering quality, flavor, service and atmosphere, Dirt Candy is exceptional. I'll be back next time I'm in NYC.

Delicious and creative food in a very calming environment. Lovely staff, the right balance of attentive and giving us space. Enjoyed every minute.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, well presented food, but lacks flavour and impact
We were visiting from the UK and booked Dirt Candy for my birthday. First of all, service was great, very attentive what you would expect with a Michelin star. My only gripe was overhearing the host behind me dismissingly saying she had to 'give the spiel' to a colleague about out next drink, when he asked her a question. Also, not relighting the candle they had put in dessert when I had blown out before a photo and not being very engaged. Seemed like an empty gesture. We loved how one guy (who was replacing the cutlery after each course) asked us about the food and told us about his favourite course, so friendly and engaging (with us and the food that was being served). In terms of food, I would say hit and miss. Treat - cucumber cannelloni - delicious, if a bit tricky to eat from what it was served on (kind of an egg cup) Carrot Mille Feuille - not very nice, big and clumsy/heavy. Really bad pastry (and not delicate that a mille feuille should have). Too sweet for a first course. Doesn't sit well with the rest of the menu. Mushroom: - beautifully presented, light (not rich as the server described), could have done with more cherry flavour Treat - yellow beet noodles - delicious Spring Peas: Pea Raviolo, Feta, Mint and Preserved Lemon - delicious, just needs to be served in a different bowl to not make a scraping sound to get all the broth up. Broccoli: Pickled Broccolini, Fermented Serrano Chilis, Fresh Tofu, Crispy Broccoli - was very tasty, great textures, but needed some seasoning (as with a lot of the courses) and a second 'green' broth based course was a little repetitive. Burrata Ice Cream Stuffed with Green Sorbet, Roasted Spring Strawberries, and Candied Green Beans - I loved it and thought the green beans in the dessert was interesting (no real flavour just a crunchy texture). The burrata ice cream was delicious Rainbow Chard Madeleines - yum We did the wine flight, which is good value, but I wasn't wowed (the sake and rose were nice, the white and red were underwhelming and the dessert wine was syrupy, but I'm not a fan of most desert wines). All is all we had a lovely evening and for New York (and the exchange rate for us) was no cheap, but didn't feel over priced. Generally impeccable and not a fussy service, presentation is great, flavour needs to be ramped up
Be the first to ReplyWhat a Treat: Stay Away if You're REALLY Hungry
The Big 3s: Service: deft and attentive Food: incredibly inventive and tasty Ambience: clean, modern, and stark High Points: the wine pairing tasting with the dinner, the mushrooms tasting like duck liver pate, the service Low Points: we left and went for Asian soupy noodles because we were hungry; the green bean ice cream was the sole dessert; restaurant resizes are hard to make and only AFTER making the resizes do the rules and stipulations come 24 hours prior both advising and enforcing strict policies Unique Points: no tipping at all as restaurant policy; proud female chef profiles female-driven wines and we loved that

Vegetables like you haven't seen before. Servers were very attentive. I did not leave overly full but felt well cared for.

My husband is never sure when I tell him Iโve booked a vegetarian restaurant but he fell in love with this place on first bite Great 5 course tasting menu and we also opted for the great value wine flight Amazing food, service and atmosphere
Be the first to ReplyInventive and delicious food in a comfortable environment
It was a fantastic experience. The food was absolutely amazing and the whole restaurant vibe was down to earth and enthusiastic yet professional and refined. I was afraid it would be too โ out there โ for my husband but he loved it. A mistake was made and our dessert was delivered before our last savory course so we were treated to sparkling rose and a round of drinks was also taken off our tab. I hope I can get there again someday.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous meal at Dirt Candy for our anniversary.
We arrived one day after the restaurant introduced their fall menu and were very pleased. A nice touch was being served sparkling wine in honor of our celebratory occasion once we were seated. In addition, we tried several drinks that were all unique and flavorful: 14 carrot gold, the great wave and leaf peeper were favorites. The menu was phenomenal, as was the staff. Each course seemed to outdo the previous one and each presentation was colorful and artistic. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and rotated throughout our dining experience as they took turns serving the various courses. Everything was so creative and you felt the passion in each delectable bite. We loved everything but the mushroom with the โteaโ broth, mini carrot burger and mustard greens dessert were highlights for us.

I love food and this place did not disappoint. Each dish was not only a piece of art, but the flavors were fabulous and unique. Will want to come back next time I am in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyExceeded every expectation
Dined last Saturday with my son and his girlfriend who are almost vegan vegetarians, and although my wife and I are basically omnivores, we all really were blown away. There is no a la carte menu so everyone gets the 6 course (plus a few little surprises) tasting menu, with the only option being whether to order vegetarian, as is, or the get the totally vegan version, which is almost identical except for some small dairy replacements. I won't go into a course by course description because the whole new spring menu is available on their website with photos, but let me say that the first course, the "lox & bagel tower" and the dessert course featuring several asparagus (!!!) preparations were the highpoints. My wife and I also included the wine pairings for an additional $50. each which were interesting and delicious and all from women wine-makers from around the world. Gratuities are fully included in the $90.00 prix-fixe price-tag and every employee we came into contact with were so enthusiastic and seemed genuinely happy to be there. A wonderful, entertaining and luscious evening. Oh and BTW the Tripadvisor listing says the restaurant is not currently open for dine-in but our recent experience in the buzzy, crowded dining room contradicts that fact.

Nice concept - tasting menu. Was really tasty and just the right size of portions. Service was greatโฆ..Marie was our waiter and she was brilliant.

Everything about this experience was perfectly curated. They easily made everything vegan, and the courses just kept coming. While i wouldnt go twice with the same menu, i would definitely go again when in new york
Be the first to ReplyRedefines Garden Variety
I am not a vegetarian or vegan, but even if I were, Dirt Candy had such a magical way with plant-based recipes and ingredients which could persuade me to add more -or any- vegetables into my diet. Like cucumber (donut), carrot (pizza), brussels sprouts (dessert), and red-and-yellow pepper (gummy bears).
I opted for the vegetarian preparation of the set menu, and added (naturally) the wine pairing. Every course was thoughtfully and informatively presented by the friendly server; the food itself unbelievably delicious. I cleaned every plate, without hesitation. The wines were well chosen with their own stories of creation and ancient recipes. A thoroughly satisfying meal.
Amazing, imaginative food
This creative vegetarian restaurant is superb in every way. The servers and the folks who deliver your food and carefully remove your dishes are all friendly and enthusiastic about the restaurantโs creations. Management wants your feedback on new offerings, and it wants to be certain you are happy. We enjoyed every course, but we particularly liked the cloud soft mushroom soup, the cabbage roll, and even the unexpected small pizza! We are not vegetarians, but we were full and happy when we left.

Absolutely perfect. Hands down the best culinary experience we've had in NYC. Only one of us was vegetarian and we both agreed that every course out of the 5 served was just made to perfection.
Be the first to ReplySuperb meal exceeded expectations
Absolutely superb tasting menu.
Iโm not vegetarian but this was the most full of flavor meal you could wish for. Iโll stop short of saying it was the best meal I have ever had but, off the top of my head, I cannot think of a better one. The service was also impeccable.
We went for our wedding anniversary and will certainly be back.
Delectable
You think a Michelin rated restaurant would be stuffy. Not this one. Warm, welcome, and bloody delicious. An experience worth having. Try the sprouts.
Be the first to ReplyA very different Vegan experience....
A very different Vegan experience....
Itโs not your typical vegetarian restaurant, itโs not trying to save the planet, nor is it filled with self-righteous people eating vegetables. This is a place where the chef makes a real effort to transform basic vegetables into a gourmet experience. I actually loved how I didnโt know what was coming next, and I didnโt know what to expect over many courses. It was fun, it was an adventure (albeit an expensive one), but well worth it.
And a special thank you for your ability to accommodate all of my special allergy requirements - that too was a treat!
One michelin star - only if it's from the tire company!
This was truly the worst meal we've ever eaten (4 of us dined this evening). We stopped for a slice of pizza on the way home so that we could have something edible. Cauliflower ice cream? Are you serious? Each dish that came made us cringe more than the prior one. She seems to e more interested in creating something "unique" than something that actually is edible and tastes good. Wouldn't go back here if it was the last restaurant on the planet. And by the way, I'm a vegetarian... :(

Dirt Candy provides a wealth of vegetarian dishes in two different set menus. All the five courses that we enjoyed were delectable, and each provided several different dishes. Another plus for this restaurant was its wine list, which featured wines made by women winemakers from throughout the world.
