I visited "Milos" with my family the first day of our stay in NY. We made a reservation for 800 pm. I am of Greek descent so I have a very hard time finding good Greek restaurants in the US.
The interior of "Milos" was warm and a bit noisy. The place is huge extending on 3 levels! I really appreciate the fact that I did not see any of these horrendous and distasteful Greek statue replicas that I have met in many other Greek restaurants...
We visited on a Monday and the restaurant was full! The service was a bit slower than I would like it to be, but given the fact that the place was so busy, I am not gonna take any points away for this reason.
The appetizers were:
1. An olive oil dip with freshly cut oregano. The bread was grilled in a traditional Greek way. It did remind me of Greece. Extra points for this!
2. Greek spreads, including tzatziki, taramosalata (type of fish egg sauce) and htypiti (type of cheese sauce). There was pita bread (really good). I would prefer the tzatziki to be more spicy but I understand that other palates may not be that trained, so overall I would say that spreads were very good. Tip: ask for extra pita bread from the beginning!
3. Fried calamari. It was excellent. Tip: ask for extra slices of lemon from the beginning!
4. Gigantes (a type of oversized beans). They were very good.
We ordered 3 main dishes. The halibut was one of the best we ever had. The filet mignon was great. The lamb chops were fantastic (very juicy!). French fries were hand-cut and very tasty!
I had a glass of red wine. Decent.
For desserts, we ordered yogurt with honey and karydopitta (walnut pie) with ice cream. They were above average and definitely brought us a feeling of home. I did notice that a family left baklava in the table next to us. It is never a good sign when Greeks don't finish their baklava but to be fair I did not have one. My gut feeling is that "Milos" chefs need to work more on their desserts.
We paid $400 for 3 persons. Overall, it was a great experience and we would definitely come back!
