Fresco by Scotto New York Reviews from The Last Year
Another fun dinner at Scottoโs
This is my second trip to NYC and second dinner at Scottoโs. While I initially made my reservation for inside because I wasnโt sure what the weather would bring when we arrived I was offered seating in or outside. We decided on outside and the hostess shared she has a table on the far end of the seating or if I was ok waiting a few minutes she could have a table closer to the front - which was perfect . I was with my 22 year old daughter and 26 year old nephew who lives in NYC and I thought it was such a fun restaurant with the DJ and dancing and birthday celebrations and they did too. BUT what about the food ? All of it was great , margarita pizza, pasta with lobster , salmon with vegetables and a pasta special with vodka sauce and prosciutto were all delicious, and the limoncello was a great night cap! Service was perfetto! With so many choices in NYC it becomes overwhelming so when I find a great place I stick with it and we will be back for another fun night at Scottoโs soon!
Well I know I have been know to be a serial reviewer but
Well I know I have been know to be a serial reviewer but only because I love the places I frequent and this place is number 1 on the list. We don't get to the city too often anymore but when we have a chance it's either Frescos or Del Frisco's on 6th. We had friends visiting from Istanbul and they wanted to treat so naturally we had to introduce them to the best Italian food, service and ambiance in Manhattan! The place was packed and the energy electric. They had the Bond Signature drink "Vesper" perfectly mixed and shaken. I had 2! Great wine choice for our delicious Lobster Carbonara from where else Russian River Valley. Never disappointed with this NY staple catering to the who's who in NY.
My first time at Fresco By Scotto and what a pleasant
My first time at Fresco By Scotto and what a pleasant surprise. Everyone was so friendly and I appreciated the call from Gracie telling me there was going to be live DJ the night of my reservation and gave option to sit upstairs where it was going to be quieter. Wine list was fine, lots of options but imo a little bit more pricey than other similar restaurants in midtown. We started with the clams oreganata which was good. My friend had the cacio y pepe and thought it was okay. I had the branzino and absolutely loved it! The portion was generous and cooked beautifully with crispy skin sitting over quinoa with arugula and roasted tomatoes. I would come back here for the ambiance, the branzino and the service.
Came here for my Aunt's birthday at the recommendation of
Came here for my Aunt's birthday at the recommendation of my cousin who knows someone who lives near the restaurant. We didn't want an old and stuffy place, but also did not want a place that was so modern that everything was a fusion dish with portions the size of a fingernail and a price point somewhere between Fort Knox and the moon (which is most of Manhattan now). Fresco by Scotto delivered. Portions were generous enough, and yes the price is there, but there is also the option for a generous prix fixe, and the ambiance and service are impeccable. If you have an occasion here, there is an upstairs room that is not as loud as the downstairs, which is lively and fun! So you can choose your adventure on that front. We had a variety of dishes. To start we tried the meatball, which was very good, because the sauce and texture of the meatball was on point. We also had the wedge salad, which is unique in how it is cut and shaped, and has ranch instead of blue cheese, as well as tomato. We also tried the grilled octopus, which was superb, and a special grilled pizza that was surprisingly good as well. For our mains we had dover sole, chicken scarpariello, cacio e' pepe, and the branzino. Everyone was happy. The best ones were the cacio e' pepe and the dover sole. A minor point - the scarpariello comes with chicken sausage rather than pork sausage, because that is the chef's choice. Everything is subjective. I think that's weak and unnecessary, but my cousin liked it, and when I tried the chicken itself, it was perfectly tender and delicious. So, not a criticism, I'm just picking nits on my own preference. Do as you wish! For dessert we had coffee/espresso (they use Illy, which is our favorite), an affogato, and they brought out something special for my Aunt we didn't even ask for. Classy! Thanks for a great time and meal, Fresco. Yelpers, enjoy.
Amazing restaurant - from start to finish!!
My friends and I had dinner here recently and it was just a delightful experience. The decor of the restaurant is inviting and warm and having a live DJ just made the entire evening SO festive. Three of our party are native New Yorkers and are big fans of Rosanna Scotto and so we were all thrilled when she personally came to our table to greet us all and have photos made with our friends. What a lovely lady! Now, on to the food. We ordered dishes like the Dover Sole, the meatballs, pasta, etc. and everything was delicious. The presentation was fabulous and I especially loved the square table with seating for eight because you could see/hear everyone at our table. The Scotto family has thought of everything. We finished up uur evening with dessert and I can personally say that the Banana Pudding was superb. All in all, a wonderful evening and I would definitely recommend Fresco the next time you are in NYC.
Dinner where the owners treat you like family!!!
On a girls weekend one of us recommended this restaurant because she wanted to go since it opened because she was a fan of Instagrams "Scotto Sisters". We went and was met with very friendly family members staff. The atmosphere was very pleasant and wait staff attentive. The delight of the night came when Rosanne Scotto herself came over to say hello! I watch her every morning and it was a real treat for all of us! We then enjoyed a delicious meal and the music that they had playing from a live DJ. A great time was had by all!
Wow what a gem.
This is why I love NYC. Fantastic food, great service and ambience plus it's really a cool place. Great attention to detail. No wonder it's packed. I'm picky and they crossed off all the boxes. Happy Camber and excited about my leftovers for lunch.
This place was really busy but it didn't hamper the service.
Food was excellent, so much flavor and the presentation was amazing. The ambiance was so nice and love the lemons!!
I made a reservation for my Valentine's Day dinner here.
It had a romantic atmosphere, with the napkins being folded into heart shapes and the servers were incredibly attentive all night. The food itself was delicious, but for the price point, I don't think I would go again. We got the lobster ravioli and some ragรบ which was delicious and the portions were relatively well sized. We also got some tuna tartar and burrata as appetizers, as well as ordered dessert (affogato and their apple pie with ice cream). The total came around to $300+ which I felt was steep. Overall, a beautiful night and a lovely date spot but not somewhere I would add into my regular rotation.
Love it here.
Good food, and as a vegetarian, definitely appreciate the many options. The roasted cauliflower parmiagana and picci primavera are highlights, as well as the zucchini chips as an app.
Wait what? How can this NY staple receive less than 5
Wait what? How can this NY staple receive less than 5 stars? This is one of the hottest restaurants in Manhattan. The who's who of business and politics frequent this traditional Italian restaurant with the most amazing menu and impeccable service. The energy in the room is contagious! We were here for a rare Saturday night. The DJ adds a great atmosphere to an already great dining experience. This is a must if you're in NY for a short business trip so you can gain a real NY restaurant experience. For me it is our go to restaurant for any occasion or no occasion.
Had dinner here last week.
Very pricey but expected. It was a special occasion. Service was generally exceptional and food delicious. The big disappointment was the sommelier, who by definition has a responsibility to work within customer taste preferences and budget. The wine list was extensive and included bottles ranging from $60 and up. We communicated our taste and budget ($100/bottle) and he we was unable to make a recommendation under $125. Wait, what? When we asked about different wines in our price range (which again, we clearly communicated) he would shake his head and point us to something more expensive. Isn't he involved in choosing the wines on the list? Can $100 bottle of wine from Fresco's wine list be that bad? He wasn't doing his job and unfortunately this detracted from our experience.
My husband and I received a $300 gift card for Christmas in
My husband and I received a $300 gift card for Christmas in 2019. Covid hit in 2020, so we recently tried using the gift card. We ordered a little lavishly because we had the gift card. At the end of the meal, our bill was slightly over $300, but we didn't care because the food was delicious and we had a good time. Unfortunately, the manager approached us and told us the gift card was no longer valid. We tried to argue that we couldn't use it because of COVID. They were unwilling to help us. We were forced to pay cash for the meal, which we typically can't afford. This is a horrible policy. Gift cards should always be honored. They have already received their money. Because of this, I would not recommend this restaurant.
Went to Fresco for a business lunch recently.
The interior is super cute and I love their lemon tree decor. Overall, the food was delicious and the portions are very generous. The service was fast and attentive. If you're looking for a reliable Italian place in midtown, this is it!
Very... interesting take on Italian dishes. Want to note
Very... interesting take on Italian dishes. Want to note the portions are HUGE, I was so full by the end of the meal. You should have seen the meatball dish, it was like the size of my head. Caesar salad (3.5/5) - Caesar salad is very unconventional, kind of like a posh version. The lettuce used are big pieces and the sauce is drizzled on rather than mixed. There isn't a whole lot of sauce to "dip", so got a few mouthfuls of just lettuce. I love the Parmesan shavings, it is so light and fluffy and rich and nutty. The croutons are also flavorful and buttery and crunchy. Braised beef papparadelle (3.5/5) - This dish is so rich, perhaps too much. The braised beef sauce is so savory and deep with flavor. They added some breadcrumbs for a crunch and the pasta had a good chew. It was hard to finish the last few bites of the dish because it was so rich. Tiramisu (5/5) - One of my favorite tiramisus I have ever had. The marscapone cheese is so velvety and creamy and delicately rich. The "ladyfingers" are soaked and the espresso and cocoa are a perfect balance of flavors. Tiramisu carried this entire meal!
Well this was a huge disappointment.
We visited Fresco by Scotto for my birthday dinner recently. Our family has had good experiences here in the past, but last night was simply infuriating. If you come here on a Saturday night, be prepared to sit in the middle of a DJ set. Not sure if it's for middle-aged folks on their night out, but the place is so loud you won't be able to hear yourself think. I wanted a relaxing, enjoyable Italian family dinner. Instead, we got put into the middle of a club environment. I asked the managers what to do and they brushed it off. We were able to finally move tables, but the night had already been ruined. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU'RE UNWILLING TO PARTAKE IN A TECHO CHOO-CHOO TRAIN LINE DANCE. Food-wise, it's a bit pricy, but you get big portions and the servers try. They also tried to charge us for a bottle of wine we didn't order, but that's how it goes. We will never come back here.
funny story
My favorite dish is veal parmesan. I have eaten VP in 70 countries on 6 continents. Coincidently, the night we went to this restaurant veal chop parmesan was the dinner special. I told this to the captain and said that if it is not good I will send it back. He said if it is not good I will buy your dinner. Good news and bad news: I had to pay for my dinner-but it was worth it.
Thank you Scotto Family
I am rating this highly with the caveats that we were not intending to spend this much and we walked in without a reservation. We had reservations at another restaurant we didnโt realize didnโt allow kids, a 10 and 13 year old, and turned us away. So we wandered for a bit, and Fresco said they had no tables but found us one anyway and I am grateful. We shared margarita pizza, meatball toscana, and Pici Pepe. We were very pleased with our food, and appreciated that they actually split up the portions table side recognizing we were going to share everything. The pizza was made with Romano instead of the usual mozza, which is pungently salty and almost crispy when it bakes up. The pasta was al dente which is the number one criteria, and the kick of pepper was on point. The giant meatball was garlicky and meaty with a light complementary tomato sauce. We had some cocktails and a half bottle of wine so the bill set us back more than we had planned, but for good food, weโll scrimp somewhere else.
At least the flies got fed and drunk
Seated outside on a balmy night in Nyc. Great. Except that despite having booked in advance we were seated away from the terrace and other diners. Just two of us in a seated outside area surrounded by empty tables. We could only look enviously from our distant table over at the other diners seated all together at the terrace, nice and sociable. Anyway, we had high hopes for this restaurant being lovers of Italian food generally (me) and pizza ( my dining companion). Our initial happy anticipation turned to irritation as the red wine turned out to be a fly trap. I pointed this out to the waiter. He took away my glass and returned with another (same?-please no!) glass. Fly free certainly but with less wine than the glass he had taken away. Given that the price of a glass of wine was working out at approximately $5 a gulp, I would respectfully submit that what might seem like a petty point is entirely legitimate. On to the food: my pizza loving dining companion found the grilled pizza inedible and ate just two slices before giving up-an absolute first! It was charred black (i.e. burnt) underneath base base.As I was paying for this burnt offering I tried some encouragement. The surly response was โyou try it and seeโ. I did and it was awful. Incredibly salty. My own dish of risotto was ok. The flies were hungry as well as thirsty and they liked my risotto more than I did. Eating fly laden risotto is not appealing and after eating a few forkfuls, the prospect of any more was nausea inducing. So there it was. Over half of two dishes almost $40 worth of food uneaten and taken away by our waiter without comment.
Quality in a Refined Setting
The outdoor seating is very upscale and the indoor atmosphere is refined. The menu provides many excellent choices and there are multiple specials. The wine list is strong but pricey. Service was very good if a bit โdistant.โ We love this place and have been here before, mostly for special occasions. One major negative. The music might have been okay for the outside diners, but all of us of varying ages kept commenting on how it really doesnโt help the dining experience. One star deducted for the music.
Disappointing
Food was very average. It was like eating in a three ringed circus. I was expecting a really good Italian dinner. The meal was not my idea of really good Italian food.
Too Loud, too expensive and totally overrated
Too loud.. it was basically a Night Club. Very bland food which was over priced. People seemed to be having fun but it looked like a bunch of sad middle aged people forcing themselves to look cool and young. My idea of a hellish night.. we left early which was a shame as it was our last evening in NY
My Go to Restaurant...
Always my go to Restaurant when in New York City. I have ben there many times and the service and the food is always Top-Notch. Try the Veal and Chicken Bolognese.
Super delicious Italian
Had dined here many years ago and see this family cooking on the Today Show a lot so was in NYC for work, and made a reservation for a client dinner with the team. Did not disappoint. Waitstaff was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Ordered some starters for the table including the arancini and the breads and dips, all wonderful. For my main, I ordered the bolognese. Interesting mix of veal and chicken. Absolutely delicious. Ordered the banana pudding, tiramisu and afogato for dessert. All super delicious. Enjoyed this experience very much!! Highly recommend
