We were so excited to wrap up our NYC long weekend with dinner here. We both had been in different locations and wanted an early dinner to finish a perfect weekend. Our hotel secured us a reservation at 5:30. We we ready early so arrived at 5:00. The maitre d was on his phone online looking at items when we arrived and looked up approximately 2 minutes later. I was in the service industry for years and would always observe but give much latitude. He told us we could sit at the bar. We did so until the time of our reservation. (completely fine but noted that the restaurant was virtually empty) We were seated at 5:30. At the bar we ordered a glass of Brunello which were were seated with . Almost immediately we were asked if we would like to order. We asked for the wine list and olive oil (neither were offered initially) These were delivered and the Sommelier offered great advise. We ordered a lovely Barolo that was approximately $550.(Not the point but not inexpensive) We then waited to order, The Maitre D then came to our table and said that he would need to move us because we had a 2 hour limit (at 6:00) We stated that we were waiting to order and said something close to that this was ridiculous. He said that he felt threatened and would simply kick us out. We said we were ready to order and soon did and he never reappeared. I watched him for a good portion later( which also should not be what I am doing while dining in a fine restaurant) But, regardless, he clearly had relationships with regular clients and carried on conversations related to these; If this is the restaurant model, fine. Do not accept other reservations. I will say that the other service was nothing other than expected and the service other than him was simply exceptional and lovely. So, this restaurant should make a choice,
