World Famous Classy Venetian Restaurant in Manhattan - Inventor of Bellini Cocktail!
This is same restaurant chain that evolved from the world famous Harry's Bar in Venice, Italy. The owner in Venice invented the Bellini cocktail about a century ago. Pricey but top class in all categories. Tight seating in a crammed but comfortable setting. Very European.
Be the first to ReplySave your money - really don’t bother
Meh…. I’ve been a client of Cipriani in London, Dubai and Monaco so no stranger to the formula. Harry’s Cipriani in the Sherry Netherland hotel NYC is such a sad reflection on the brand. In London, Dubai & Monaco they’re fabulous venues but here you can touch the ceilings - YOU CAN LITERALLY REACH UP AND TOUCH THE CEILING!!! The wine list starts (once you’ve added tax and the compulsory 20% NYC tip) at $140 a bottle for an unremarkable bottle. A shared starter, 2 x mains (grilled veal, grilled chicken no sides) a bottle of house white and the obligatory enormous service fee $400. I don’t mind paying for a bit of Cipriani theatre but there wasn’t any. Value for money this place sucks. The service was great the food was ok. Tourists and kids.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place to enjoy an evening
Food is good, service is excellent and vibe is great. Only thing I don’t like about this place (and the other restaurants from this group) is the wine service. Those minuscule wine glasses, that are the signature of this restaurant group, remind me of those old trattorias where we use to drink Straw Bottle Chianti. If you go, order the house wine and you will be fine.
Be the first to ReplyJoke
Is this a joke?! Staff had a bad attitude. Everyone stares as you walk in. Feels like you are being judged the entire time. Tables are way too close together and the lights should be dimmed, especially for dinner. We were asked what we wanted to drink as soon as we sat down and hadn’t had any chance to look at the menu. Then we ordered food (just one ‘main’ dish each, no starter). Came out in less than 5 minutes and was a TINY plate of pasta each for $40. Tasted good but what a rip off, it’s laughable. I got hit in the back with a table leg as the staff were moving around furniture behind us. No one apologised. At this point I just wanted to leave - but it felt like we were being forced to stay and eat more. We declined and we were given the bill without even asking for it, even though we still had our drinks to finish. Just felt like we were being rushed out the entire time. As we collected our coats, we were quite aggressively asked if the food was good (which it was). We have been to the Mayfair Cipriani and I loved it. This place is horrible
Be the first to ReplyA restaurant you must experience
During our visit to New York, my wife made it a point to have dinner at Harry Cipriani. As a former resident of the city, it was one of her favorite places to eat. After our first meal there, I have to agree with my wife, it is a place we will be sure to frequent whenever we visit the city. Cipriani’s is on the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 59th Street, in the beautiful Sherry Netherland building. The restaurant is old-school, but in a great way. I’ve been to a lot of Italian restaurants, from Tokyo to Italy itself, but Cipriani is unique, and is a wonderful experience. The menu is quite good, but is quite pricy. We enjoyed several dishes, salads, and drinks, and all were excellent. The restaurant is famous for its risotto, which my wife orders every time she visits. What makes the restaurant most special are its staff. At Cipriani, I feel like I’ve gone back in time 50 or 60 years. The manager and the waiters are friendly, talkative, and kind. They were nice enough to treat my daughter to a wonderful desert, which she really enjoyed. Keep in mind that there is a dress code, shorts and sandals are not permitted.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Belleni
Went here today and got the Belleni which was awesome just like we had in Venice a few years back. Bartender was excellent as well.
Be the first to ReplyHidden gem that is tucked away near Central Park.
We stopped in here at the end of a busy afternoon and had a cosmo. I want to come back for their signature tagliatelle with ham dish that I saw at a nearby table.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing food, good service
We visited here on spec, after realising the food hall at the Plaza had been shut for 2 years! Oops. We decided to treat ourselves but really wish we hadn't bothered. We didn't have a reservation but they found us a table (again wishing they hadn't!). The service was spot on, no complaints and the atmosphere was good, however that's it. The food was mediocre at best, I had veal with pilau rice. The presentation was basically veal on the plate with a side of rice (think Uncle Ben's....), vert salty and definitely not worth the price tag. My partner had a baked spaghetti dish which was a small portion, but tastier than mine. We did have a dessert, a baked Alaska, which was yummy and huge. They did charge us for 2 waters, but this was rectified immediately. I cannot fault the service and it is a buzzing restaurant but I really wouldn't recommend it as the food is realky not worth the hefty price tag. It was certainly a disappointment.
Be the first to ReplyHost is rude and ruins the vibe
The food was nice and the waiters/ barmen were SO lovely and attentive but the host was rude as hell and needs to have a reality check. There was a lot of "new money" in there, and he was falling all over them and was so dismissive of anyone he didn't deem worthy - he is in the wrong industry.
Be the first to ReplyNice place for lunch
Restaurant is located at the top of 5th and the south of Central Park. Nice place with great service. Very busy so make a reservations.
Be the first to ReplyGreat classic , spot on italian restaurant.. consistently wonderful food and service! Lovee
Still one of the best classic, traditional italian restaurants in new york. This restaurant is spot on when you want great service and hearty delicious food. Its always consistent and today after a long time without going (it was closed after pandemic) i was reminded why we love it. The host id very professional no nonsense , you sit and the fish (branzino) was top top. Highly recommend for lunch
Be the first to ReplyPoor Customer Service/Snob Management…
I rarely share my experience on a restaurant, since restaurant business is a tough business and it’s almost impossible to please everyone, but my experience at Cipriani was just fine until the last moment, when the manager came to our table at the end of the night with a nasty/very rude attitude. Long story short, I asked our host, if I can purchase two used & invaluable glasses of wine, since a young individual within our group wanted to take them home as a memory. He shared our request with the manager & he showed up at our table, took the two glasses and with a very rude manner said you wanna buy them, they’re $25 each, which I responded back with okay!!! He left & never came back with the glasses. I’m not sure where this behavior came from, but when you spend this kind of money on Italian food at a restaurant that think they’re the best, a simple answer like sorry we don’t do this would be more appropriate. I don’t know where the restaurant business is heading, but this kind of looking down/talking down to a costumer should not be acceptable by the restaurant owners and the industry. Good luck with promoting poor customer service…
Be the first to ReplyVery Cipriani!
Wonderful Italian food in a comfortable, recognizable setting. The only disappointment was that they do not offer an entrée that I think of as being quintessential Harry's ... the thinly sliced steak sandwich.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
For an old standard charging exorbitant prices, the entire experience should be flawless. The good: Attractive room, as always. The eggplant parmigiana was rich and delicious though tired). The bad: Strange system of walking off the street into an ante room with a staff member. Have to reposition and walk around the inward opening door. Bellinis too sweet and made w canned juice. Prosecco, average quality. Tinny taste. Beet, green bean and chèvre salad attractive though not dressed and the the beets were flavorless. The tuna tartare was equally flavorless and unseasoned, if not off. Bottles of sparkling water kept arriving though we did not ask for more. Service friendly but inattentive. Bill was incorrect but adjusted without ado. Final final: don’t bother unless you are part of the club and/or a billionaire.

I’ve been to Harry’s in Venice. It is the ULTIMATE tourist trap… with $80 risotto and $32 Bellinis. Waiters who are shocked you don’t want the $200 truffle supplement and on and on… the type of place hustlers go to refine their craft. It’s a complete farce for anyone who knows good food. TV dinners are better than Harry’s. I’ve never been more angry in a restaurant. Harry’s in NYC is exactly the same minus the truffle supplement. Imagine a 60s cafeteria with waiters who surely know the food is microwaved but keep themselves running about in order to avoiding have the time to think about the scam that they find themselves are part of. If scientology had a cafeteria it would be Harry’s — it’s a 100% insulting dining experience designed to remove as much money from your wallet as possible because they know no sane person would ever come back. $68 dollar branzino // picture Costco fillet cooked in a micro alone in a 70’s cafeteria plate! There is better branzino around the corner at Avra or for these prices you should just go to Marea (for a Michelin star experience). $39 hamburger - my friend could even finish it was so bad - complete with thick slide of tomato and slice of red onion on the side. Fries from 3rd grade. Why did I even go a second time you may ask? So that I could show folks I care about that they should never consider going in their own … ever! $800 for 6 people - 1 drink each and no desserts. Even the non foodies in our group were insulted. PizzaArte, quality meats, anything in Columbus circle is 1000x better. Just DON’T do it.

We didn’t have a reservations but the matrie de kindly seated us. I had spaghetti Italian style which was outstanding and I’m critical about that dish. Waitstaff was very attentive and personable. We are seriously thinking of returning tomorrow night.
Be the first to ReplyWorst food ever
Worst food I ever ate, waste of money. Any salad bar serves better food..The oil that was used for some parts of my dish was old and smelled bad...Poor presentation, overrated. I would be ashamed to serve this to my friends or anyone
Be the first to ReplyInedible food, overbearing service. Save your money and avoid.
Late lunch on a weekday, we were greeted warmly and taken to a table in a corner section, where all other tables were occupied and clustered close together, even though the restaurant was only around 40% full.
It soon became clear that that was the section for the non-important people, as I saw the maitre’d circle the other tables to chat (who all had plenty of room between them) but he notably avoided our section.
We’d been sat down for about 15 seconds when the first waiter rushed over to take our drinks order. We had barely opened the menu, so I asked him to come back. He did, approximately one minute later, when my dining companion was in the bathroom. Luckily I could order for both of us. My companion had just arrived back and was lowering himself into the chair when another waiter ran over and asked what we wanted to order. Again, we had to ask for more time.
This behaviour by the wait staff continued; they hovered near the table, anxious to snatch up plates and glasses and rush us through the meal as quickly as possible. A waiter would regularly come by and grab our bottled water to top up (already) full glasses and at one point, sloshed water all over the glass and table.
We had intended to order wine but didn’t bother, as it was now obvious we couldn’t enjoy it in peace. I felt tense throughout the meal, aware we were being watched constantly, unsubtly pressured to hurry up and leave.
If only that was the worst of it, but I haven’t even talked about the food yet. Put simply; the food is an abomination.
We started with the burrata and the beef carpaccio. The burrata was cold, solid as a rock and tasted sour. Digging into it, it crumbled into grey-ish lumps, like it was defrosting after several years the freezer.
The carpaccio was thickly sliced, unnaturally bright red and almost welded to the plate.
Both had clearly just been retrieved from a cold fridge, as the plates were cold too. The carpaccio was making me feel ill, so we left most of both. We were not asked at any point how it was, I strongly suspect they know how genuinely disgusting it is.
My main course was better - but you can’t go too far wrong with a plate of ravioli swimming in butter. My companion had the baked eggplant that looked tasty on the outside, but on the inside was slushy, tasteless and radioactively hot - clearly it had been blitzed in the microwave.
We had two bread baskets - the warm, crunchy slices of bread were delicious with the cold butter. Even the breadsticks were enjoyable, although they were visibly reluctant to bring us the second basket and took their time.
We were done and out of there in just under an hour - a huge, massive, expensive disappointment. Given the prices plus tax & service, the final bill wasn’t too far off what you’d pay for a cheap return flight to Rome. So save your money and go find the real deal instead.
Good but not great
Having been to other Cipriani properties I was expecting an exceptional experience. Sadly, I left a little underwhelming. The food was very good but in small portions. The bread basket was not up to standards. In addition, the waiter felt rushed and inattentive during our entire meal. We went on a weekday and they were not overcrowded so I was surprised by the service. My hope is they were just having a bad night.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Spot for Lunch
You have gotta love this restaurant. It is like a trip to Harry's Bar in Venice. Beautiful setting, Linen table cloths changed before the desert. Wonderful food. In this case it was the Homemade Lightly Baked Tagliolini with ham. A house favorite. It was delicious. Lemon pie (Meringata Alla Crema) for desert. Very nice. Service was excellent. For two, without alcohol, the meal was $250. Expensive for lunch, but very good.
Be the first to ReplyPossibly the worst Maitre D' ever...
We were so excited to wrap up our NYC long weekend with dinner here. We both had been in different locations and wanted an early dinner to finish a perfect weekend. Our hotel secured us a reservation at 5:30. We we ready early so arrived at 5:00. The maitre d was on his phone online looking at items when we arrived and looked up approximately 2 minutes later. I was in the service industry for years and would always observe but give much latitude. He told us we could sit at the bar. We did so until the time of our reservation. (completely fine but noted that the restaurant was virtually empty) We were seated at 5:30. At the bar we ordered a glass of Brunello which were were seated with . Almost immediately we were asked if we would like to order. We asked for the wine list and olive oil (neither were offered initially) These were delivered and the Sommelier offered great advise. We ordered a lovely Barolo that was approximately $550.(Not the point but not inexpensive) We then waited to order, The Maitre D then came to our table and said that he would need to move us because we had a 2 hour limit (at 6:00) We stated that we were waiting to order and said something close to that this was ridiculous. He said that he felt threatened and would simply kick us out. We said we were ready to order and soon did and he never reappeared. I watched him for a good portion later( which also should not be what I am doing while dining in a fine restaurant) But, regardless, he clearly had relationships with regular clients and carried on conversations related to these; If this is the restaurant model, fine. Do not accept other reservations. I will say that the other service was nothing other than expected and the service other than him was simply exceptional and lovely. So, this restaurant should make a choice,
Be the first to ReplyGood Italian food in a comfortable setting
When you enter, you will feel like transported into an old world setting of a European restaurant. This place was very busy, but the waitstaff is friendly and very efficient. The food will be good Italian selections. We opted for a very light lunch with salads, bellinis (yum!) and espresso to finish, and the servings were adequate, well presented and very tasty. Do not expect a cheap Italian resto in this area.New York, and especially this area of Manhattan is picey, but we can recommend this place!
Be the first to ReplyBeyond over rated and one of the worst Italian restaurants in NYC
This is NYC. A thousand GREAT Italian restaurants. Cipriani is dreadful. We ordered one eggplant parm only to receive a plate full of greasy eggplant skins. Too embarrassing to send back. Everything was gross, indelicate, insulting. Not to mention priced at twice what you will be charged at good restaurants. Don't be a sucker.
