Let me explain. This place has energy, generally hip clientele it seems, but it tries too hard. This French inspired wine bar has a heavy door that is nondescript to reveal a dark space over 2 levels. The door seems to only welcome the initiated, perceptive enough to know how to push it open, and has enough power to budge it; almost should fail the fire marshal inspection as asafety issue. Then you are greeted by at least 3 groups of service staff: the black suits, the white puffy shirts and the tray holders - almost a bit science fiction dystopian. The black suits check on you to make sure they pour everything including the water. The puffy shirts buzz around frenetically walking way too fast, dizzying back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, quite disruptive. Then the most disturbing practice is the tray holders that stand around holding large trays containing all the plates of each dish being served, which is HEAVY!! Why they can't bring out the dishes carried from the kitchen with servers directly to the table is hard to understand. Are the puffy shirts forbidden from the kitchen because they have to run too fast and get nowhere? It just seems cruel and unnecessary and even our kids noticed why the tray holders are doing that job, a job that no restaurant we have visited seems to have imagined necessary. Despite how frenetic and fast the puffy shirts move, despite how the entire dinner service is prefixe menu so that the kitchen has to only make the same dishes for every table, the dinner dragged on for 3 hours. This is a very long time even for London. At the end, we left remembering the gimmicks and distracting service, less about the food. Hide!!!
