Old Tbilisi Garden New York Reviews from The Last Year
The food was good but the service was horrible.
The worst service ever and also the waitress add 20% service fee in the bill and we were just 2 people. Really bad experience.
They do not warn you on the phone that they do not accept
They do not warn you on the phone that they do not accept Visa only cash or American Express. It is the most bizarre thing ever.
One of my favorites in town.
Their quality, quantity, service, & ambiance have been consistently outstanding. I love their Georgian sparkling water & wine along with other authentic Georgian specialties. The soup served in a clay pot was divine. Whenever I invited my out of town friends and family, they always loved this place , including my very well traveled mother-in-law ,who had never been to a Georgian restaurant before, absolutely enjoyed it & wanted to come back here again. Highly recommended.
I had a good experience at Old Tbilisi Garden.
There are so many options to choose from on the menu, we had such a hard time picking. All the food we ordered was so yummy, and I have to give a special mention to the Spinach Khachapuri - it was delicious. The restaurant is stunning, it is one of the prettiest restaurants I have been to - the indoor garden creates a gorgeous ambience and adds to the authentic experience. The service was also exceptional - our server was so welcoming and kind, and he made the experience very comforting and positive. I really liked my dinner at Old Tbilisi Garden!
Was party of 12 Amazing service .
Food always great . I was surprised to try first time in my life homemade bread called Mtchadi wow amazing . Mushroom khinkali and walnuts salad are always great . Great hospitality from servers and owners.

while walking around with family, we headed into Old Tbilisi Garden for a late lunch in Greenwich Village. not super familiar with Georgian cuisine, but the hearty food hit the spot on a chilly afternoon. a charming interior with a warm vibe: small bar in the front with an enclosed garden in the back with a fairly large dining area in-between. the menu is built to order a variety of dishes and share. memorable tastydishes--Georgian Tasting Board (a variety of vegetable rolls made of beets, eggplant, spinach, and more, served with bread), Khinkali (Georgian dumplings), and Spinach Khachapuri (spinach, scallion, & cheese in baked dough). the food was flavorful and savory--it has me curious about exploring more food from this part of the world. the service was pleasant and attentive. if you're looking for foods off-the-beaten path in NYC, then Old Tbilisi Garden has a menu for you.
Great food, and good for groups.
Be sure to try the Georgian wine which is reasonably priced and delicious!
TLDR: Take ONLY hachapuri and khinkali! The coffee is ok.
Check the receipt and mark out the extra. Pay cash. PROS: Great hachapuri and khinkali. CONS: The food is mediocre at best. Some dishes are not Georgian. Service is slow. Don't accept Visa or Mastercard. Entrees are way overpriced. They include 20% tip in the check. Interior is ok. But the narrow and steep stairs to messy restroom is discouraging.
The ajarski was just cheese.
If I wanted a quesadilla I would have gone to a Mexican restaurant. One egg for an ajarski is insane to me. Bread of ajarski was great. The khinkali had no soup in it at all. Came out with no salt or pepper. No sour cream offered. Taste was fine on its own. I'm just confused as to how this is appropriate food. It's not Georgian at all. It's been elevated to a hipster meal. No longer authentic.

A friend and I went to try Georgian food the other day and really had some fun exploring some of their veggie-friendly options. What we got that I would recommend: -Ajapasandali (oven roasted vegetables) these vegetables are incredibly flavorful and have a depth of flavor. This was my favorite thing we had. - Potato Ojakhuri: this was simple and yummy. Paired with the veggies and bread, it was good. - Spinach Khachapuri: a great side to top the other items you order on. Flakey and enjoyable. We also got the mushroom Kninkali (dumplings) but I felt these really lacked seasoning. I definitely want to come back and try some of their meat forward dishes but there are quite a few options if you're dining with someone vegetarian! 4/5
New Favorite Flavors Unlocked!
We went here on a whim. The kind of whim where you are standing on a street corner, you open up "maps" on your phone and you search "food near me". We had never had Georgian food before, so we wanted to try something new. I am so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious. We started with the Khinkali {pork + beef}...they were so good! Very savory. We then got the Chanakhi and the Shmeruli- both so so good. A couple of downsides: *As others have mentioned, the service is not great. Our waitress was not mean by any means, but she also was not nice. Very curt and I felt like we were a pain by being there, lol. *The surprise added gratuity. The website says gratuity is added on parties of 6 or more. Apparently, our group of 2 sufficed to add it on as well. *The price- this place is not cheap for what you get. It tastes amazing, yes! But we had an appetizer, two orders of stew, and one glass of wine. Total with my surprise gratuity was $125. Overall- we will definitely go back for the food, but we will be mentally prepared the the service + gratuity. :)
Would not recommend - watch for unspoken autogratuity
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Waitress was horrible and tacked an automatic 20% gratuity to our check. She approached our table and simple, curtly asked "what do you want". No explanation that menus weren't being provided, but to use QR code. No specials. No welcome. No cultural or culinary explanation of the cuisine. Lamb stew was awful - broth bland, vegetables total mush, lamb tough as rawhide. Kebab grizzly and fatty and devoid of flavor profile. Super expensive and not worth a 1/4 of what we paid for it.
