A bad taste left for our 20th anniversary. This will be my first time writing a negative review for a restaurant. Generally I'm not interested in highlighting faults. But our experience left a sour memory for us on what was meant to be a nice meal out to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. When you see a restaurant like this on one of your favourite shows, Chef's Table, it sets a certain expectation. My wife and I met up in L.A. I had come from a work trip and she flew in from Vancouver, Canada. This is the one reservation we made for this trip. I will say that the meal started out well, they presented us with a card and glass of bubbly. Our server was kind and informed. The sommelier was friendly and suggested a great bottle of wine. The food did not disappoint. So why push us out of our table before we could even finish our last glass of wine? My wife and I were mid conversation on what had gone well and what we might have changed in the last 20 years of our life together. We were maybe half way through our pasta, forks in hand when a gentleman who hadn't spoken to us yet informed us that should we want to stay we'd need to move to the bar to make room for a large table they needed to set. it was jarring to be stopped mid meal and conversation. We were maybe 5-10 minutes from being finished. We didn't set the cadence for the food delivery and we weren't moving slowly. Just all of a sudden we no longer felt welcome or important to them. 'You'll have about five minutes' we were informed. I could see my beautiful wife holding back tears. They offered us a seat at the bar, which I'm sure felt like a fair trade for them , but for me and my wife... we didn't want to sit at the bar, we just needed a minute to be together, enjoy a glass of wine and some memories. Instead we felt rushed out. A thankless experience. By the end, knowing my wife was upset, they tried to apologize with words but with no action. I finally had to ask for us to be left alone. We were almost finished our meal, would have paid and left with a great memory. Instead it felt like we were rushed to the door. Standing outside waiting for our ride, encouraging my wife not to let this ruin her evening, we noticed that the party of eight hadn't even arrived to fill the table they so desperately needed from us. My God, if you can train a team to produce such good food, train them with a little empathy and manners, and the ability to better problem solve for these occurrences in the future. There were many tables open that evening, why stick us at the one you knew you needed before we had even arrived??? At some point we may laugh about this, for now I'll try to make it up by visiting a different restaurant to redo our anniversary. It just makes me sad, disappointed.
