This is a follow up to my 5 star review two years ago. We enjoyed our evening at Osteria Mozza but there were some issues on this visit that, in all fairness, need to be addressed. The restaurant opens at 5:30, so when we arrived at 5:10, we dropped into Pizzeria Mozza next door whose wine bar was open. We enjoyed two nice glasses and actually were able to bring them to Osteria at 5:30 when it opened.
They gave us a very nice table in the private dining room. Our server John was very nice. We first ordered the kale salad with toasted garbanzo beans and roasted pine nuts which was excellent. The peach and buratta was also very tasty. We ordered the egg yolk and ricotta ravioli which was also as we remembered it two years ago.
The orchietta with sausage came out, and the pasta was cooked nicely al dente, but the sausage ragu was very salty. We let this slide. Then came the duck confit which many friends have told us was great. However, ours was sooo salty it actually hurt our tastebuds as we ate it. Two overly salted dishes are unacceptable for such a fine restaurant. By right, we should have sent it back. However we were so exhausted from the long day, we just called it a night. No dessert or after dinner drinks.
I present this as constructive criticism because of the restaurant’s reputation and a prior superb meal. But Oversalting does not sit well with us.
