Interior decor is great! Staff kind, friendly, and attentive. Now on to the food, true star of the meal was the the dessert! Get the chicken, and lamb barbacoa tacos. Everything else? I'll admit I was biased and suspiciously didn't enjoy much of it. I had a canker sore and chips, spice, sour are definitely not a good mix for that. I wondered why I didn't enjoy my dishes quite as much as I had expected and realized because most the dishes very spicy / sour / tangy. The only dishes I loved were the non spicy ones (listed above). -Chips and salsa: 4 large chips paired with six house salsas each leveling up in spice. I did try all of them and by the end my mouth was on fire... - Guac and chips: 4 large chips paired with super fresh guac with a spicy jalapeño kick. - black bass aguachile negro: super fresh black bass morsels in a lovely poured over squid ink sauce. Menu mentioned grilled portobello, and they were present but in really tiny pieces. As a mushroom lover, I craved more. - Shrimp ceviche toastada: one large circular tortilla chip with fresh shrimp and something spicy with cilantro (shrimp was super fresh here)- spring pea tlayuda: not my favorite and would vote to skip. Lots of cilantro and greens? This one was forgettable- lamb barbacao tacos: 2 stuffed tacos on soft tortilla. Lamb was not super gamey (which I appreciate)- pollo las brazas: my favorite! 1/2 chicken perfectly spiced and baked? While still juicy and succulent paired with a fresh salsa, red rice, 4 pieces soft tortilla on the side- hoja santa: if I could get the recipe for this, I would be the happiest person. Strawberry flavors on an earthy refreshing sorbet that is hoja santa. I could lick the plate! - chocolate cake: rich decadent chocolate brownie consistency on the bottom with espresso icecream on top. Definitely a must for those who love coffee/ chocolate and have a heavy sweet tooth. 3 tips: 1) For those with an aversion to cilantro (which I do not) beware! There's a lot of cilantro in their dishes. 2) Don't come if you have a canker sore. 3) Extra chips don't come for free

Pam and I had such a mind blowing experience at this
Pam and I had such a mind blowing experience at this restaurant! We decided to sit at the chef's counter to get the full experience from start to finish. The ambience is neutral color tones, naturally stained wood accents, and greenery which was very harmonious. Looking at the menu we wanted to try almost everything but we decided to be reasonable and select only 7 hahaha. Our dishes consistedPunta Verde CaesarPunta Verde Caesar of guacamole and chips, Punta verde Caesar, monk fish tacos, Carne Brava, and oaxacan chocolate cake. Our favorite dish was surprisingly the Punta verde Caesar salad, the dish is unexplainably delicious! You have to experience to understand our obsession for it. This spot has made it to our top 5 favorite restaurants. Definitely going back again.

For a Michelin rated place- this is disappointing for a restaurant. It might be the fact that I came with very high expectations, but the food here is just ok. Not bad, but also not amazing. We started out with few appetizers: the guac, tuna tostada, cerviche, beef tartare. That's pretty much the whole menu. The most important thing at a Mexican restaurant for me is guac, and let's just say the guac was less than average for me. Everything else was also mediocre, nothing I would absolutely recommend here. For entree, amongst 4 of us, we shared the beef, lamb, fish, and chicken tacos. Also the whole tacos menu pretty much. Once again, nothing that was mind blowing. We also got dessert: chocolate cake and tres leches. Not great. I keep expecting it to be good because the prices are expensive $$$. The four of us spent $400 here.Overall, nothing special about this restaurant - would not recommend coming, and service wasn't that great either.

Oxomoco is the best restaurant in Greenpoint.
Get the lamb barbacoa cocktails. The service is incredible.
😍
Phenomenal atmosphere, cocktails, service and food.
Drinks - highly recommend the Sin Fronteras for whiskey/mezcal fans. Food - Guac (amazing, best restaurant guac I've ever ordered), Black Bass (yes), Tuna Tostada (yes yes), Ceviche (yes yes yes), Bavette (yes but no if you don't like mole) and Spring Pea Tlayuda (my favorite dish, have never had anything like it). Would come back in a heart beat next time I'm in Brooklyn.

I went there many times over the years and sadly I find that the restaurant has gotten worse. the food is not as fresh as it used to, this time I went for lunch and noticed how dirty the place was, the benches, the floor, the carpets, the service was also not great and very slow. that makes me sad because I loved it! Hopefully it was just an off day.
🤢
My experience was extremely disappointing.
Not only was the service subpar, but we were seated outdoors next to the trash and it smelled like a zoo. The smell was nauseating and it completely ruined my appetite. The food was great but the portions were small and nothing special. We ordered 6 dishes and they were not filling - 2 hours after my meal im already hungry.
🤮
Bad experience, mediocre food and just horrible service.
One star Michelin? Proves the Michelin star is truly pathetic.

I made a reservation for a group of 4 on a Saturday night--
I made a reservation for a group of 4 on a Saturday night-- definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time, we got seated in a booth in their aesthetic interior seating. Starting off with drinks! I got the guava margarita which I thought was delicious, but it's definitely strong. Maybe wait until you get some of your apps before sipping too much! Their drinks menu is heavy on mezcal, but if you're like me and don't enjoy mezcal, their margaritas are a safe bet. Onto the food- our waitress recommended 2 to 3 dishes per person. I thought this was a complete overshot, but YMMV. Below is what we ordered: Tuna Tostada: 3/5 - not a dish to share despite our best efforts! The tuna not as soft as I'm used to in sushi, but the flavor in the tuna ran really deep. The sesame topping was a bit reminiscent of Chinese five spice. The size of this dish (for $22) was pretty disappointing though. Black Bass Aguachile Negro: 2/5 - I've never eaten sea bass raw before so this was new to me. The texture of the bass was *very* tough. I'd skip this one next time, although the presentation was cool. Lamb Barbacoa Tacos: 4/5 - we ordered two of these for the table, so four tacos. I was impressed by how tender the lamb was. The flavors in this taco had so much depth-- it was a nice mix of savor and salty from the lamb, spicy and herby from the sauces, and the right amount of freshness from the squash blossom. Pollo a las Brazas: 4.5/5 - definitely the star of the show. The marinade on this chicken is *incredible*. This dish includes half a chicken, tortillas, and brown rice. Fair warning the chicken is not carved by any means, so get ready to get your hands dirty. At $44, this dish is much more value compared to the other items on the menu. Overall: I think I started the meal pretty disappointed with the appetizers but really ended on a high note with the Pollo. If i come back for dinner, I'd honestly probably just get the Pollo and Buvette (for a group of 4). I had a good time, but wish I got more food considering the price. I'd be happy to come back to try their brunch menu though!

Great place for casual fine dining! Came on a Monday
Great place for casual fine dining! Came on a Monday evening and still needed to make a reservation because they're so popular lol. We split 2 different tacos (the lamb one and swordfish) very well done like I love the corn tortilla. You must try the guac and they offer to give you more chips too! I had a mock tail which was guava based and citrusy (more of my favorite flavor) and their dessert which was this delicious brownie with espresso ice cream haha. We were so stuffed by the end of it all. Great service and I even got the Lamb taco to go cause I wanted it to have it for later. Definitely check it out if you haven't!!

food was delicious and well priced for how high quality it was. Only complaint is that Tatiana wasn't very nice and pretty short with us.

The atmosphere is prefect.
The food amazing, the staff was top notch. And the drinks! OMG! We sampled many of the appetizers, and they was amazing. The main course was outstanding. Definitely a place to return to.

I've been here twice now and I think would describe the food as innovative and higher end Mexican cuisine. This place was awarded a Michelin star shortly after they opened and I can see why as they serve an upgraded modern version of traditional Mexican food. The food could be improved by adding just a bit more seasoning to enhance the flavor of the food. The lamb barbacoa tacos were really good as well as most of the seafood appetizers we tried. The tuna tostada was one of my favorites. The tuna with crickets was an interesting concept but the crispness of the insects did not really go well. The drinks were all really good and the service was friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend trying this place out as it's a nice change from the typical Mexican restaurant.
A five star experience from start to finish ,service was amazing,présent but not overwhelming, food was out of this world and very well priced can’t recommend this place enough

This place has the same seventies sci fi hippy aesthetic I'm seeing more frequently. The food is great and pricy. The musics a little too loud and hype.. Good place but it's hard to duck up Mexican food. I like Acapulco that's s few blocks away.

Nice twist on Mexican food
Visited this place just before new year and was amazed with the vibe, everyone works with love. Open kitchen you can see the chefs preparing you tacos.
cocktails are really great and I fell in love with the smoked mango, the spicy hint gives it the right balance.
Had Tuna taco and it was really fulfilling.
I highly recommend this place.

The Pollo a las Brazas and the Tuna Tostada is what gives

JA A. on 01/19/2022
The Pollo a las Brazas and the Tuna Tostada is what gives this place a 100/100 for me. These 2 dishes hands down, make up for all of the not so great things. Fantastic guava margarita, also!!!I am not exaggerating when I say the Pollo a las Brazas is the best chicken I have probably ever had. The problems: the rice that comes with the chicken. It was so disappointing. 0 flavor, tasted like it was never rinsed/cleaned and boiled in dirty starch water. Maybe next time I'll ask if I can sub the rice with something else? I would recommend that to everyone. Secondly, our server. She was very hostile and cold. The other staff was so friendly and great, it was just our server who was incredibly off-putting.Regardless... the quality of the chicken and the tuna tostada allows me to look past anything "bad" and I am looking for any and all excuses to return.

Heading to a concert in Greenpoint last night, I decided to finally give Oxomoco a shot. They just happened to have a reservation available for indoor dining: booked! My girlfriend and I arrived on time and received a cute two-top in the middle of the dining area. They weren't particularly busy, we received all the service and attention we needed. To start, the guacamole, served with 4 tostada caseras to break apart and scoop. This is phenomenal guac. I loved the consistency of the avocado and the flavor of the cilantro. We saved some to put on our tacos later, which turned out to be a great decision. Next, swordfish tacos. You may have had fish tacos before but never quite like this. We were both blown away by the flavors and the textures. Absolutely heavenly. I'm salivating right now just thinking about it. We also ordered the pork special, one of the three big plates (the mainstays are chicken and beef). This dish comes with tortillas to make your own tacos. Once again, we were mouthgasming hard. This is where the leftover guac came into play. I couldn't get enough of it. The cocktails we chose were also delicious and refreshing. Later, I ordered a pilsner to accompany the pork tacos: great choice, me. We probably could have fit in one more small plate but overall it was a good amount of food. Some of the best Mexican food I've had in New York and one of the most memorable dining experiences in quite some time.
🙂
This restaurant has a very inviting and nice interior.
I loved the hanging ivy. The staff were kind and helpful. The drinks were great- definitely get the ultimo adios. Most of the food knocked me out with their incredible mix of flavors. Don't leave without getting the tuna tostada and beet "chorizo" tacos. The lamb barbacoa and skate tacos were also wonderful. The hamachi crudo was the exception- it was so off-putting that I didn't finish it. And be warned- it's freezing. The door is constantly opening for both patrons coming in and waiters going out and I ended up putting on my winter coat midway through the dinner, even though we were inside.
🙂
Elevated Mexican Cuisine with a Latin Flair
Once again, my daughter selected a very good restaurant for her birthday celebration. It was a frigid night out and we appreciated the warm welcome and cozy atmosphere. Our party of five were seated at a booth, perfect for four, but a little too close for comfort and coats for our group. And before you ask, there was not a place for us to hang or place our coats while dining. Our waitress was a little slow in coming over to greet us and explain the lay of the land, but she got better as the meal progressed. After telling us about the specialty cocktails of the day and answering some questions, we ordered some excellent drinks. I had their equivalent to a Hot Toddy and it lived up to its' name. No more chills for me. The margarita of the day was a huge hit with my son and husband with just the right amount of spiciness. We next ordered our Para La Mesa with some suggestions from other diners reviews and our waitress. My favorites were the: popcorn (elevated by the addition of the Escabeche powder), sweet potato Tlayada (a family favorite), lamb Barbacoa tacos ( the salsa pipicha added a delicious zingy/robust flavor). The table favorite was the Soya marinated tuna tostada (I am not a fan of tuna so I cannot agree or disagree). We ordered only two desserts for the table so that we each got a taste. We decided not to order coffees and instead finished our wine and cocktails!! One dessert was chocolate and perfect for our group, especially the birthday girl. The waitress apologized because she requested a candle for the desserts, but the kitchen did not comply.
As I indicated above, the service got better as the meal progressed and we never felt rushed. Some people mentioned that the tables were too close together and the bar was crowded. This is true, but we felt Covid secure in our booth. And they did follow proper protocol by asking for proof of vaccination as we entered.
😒
Not quite up to scratch
This review i write with a heavy heart- this was the place I expected most of our trip to New York to- and sadly it did not delivery this fully- it was not a bad evening but bear with me
During the pandemic Reviews for now will focus on 3 Parts
1. How they deal with the pandemic situation
2. Service and how it feels for Europeans (as this is what I am)- differences
3. Food, glorious food
We love Mexican food- we had some of the best food of our lives on a trip to Mexico and knew what those chefs are capable of so a Michelin starred Mexican place made our expectations sky high- perhaps unfairly so…
Clear vaccination policy, staff wearing masks, vaccination Status checked- but overcrowded bar and closely spaced tables 3/5
The service and communication was the best we had on this trip- we could book with ease, got confirmations and top comms from the front of houser manager Katharina- how to get to Brooklyn from our hotel, how long it takes etc… great
Our server Helmuth was very nice and made a good effort to make us forget that the table was not ready when we came- i do not expect this all the time as a value to be able to fix oh my dinner too, but was slightly unhappy as I had to sit at the overcrowded bar and once I had sat there for a while and a drinks order was eventually taken i needed to move. Small glitch only
So why the ‘bad’ ranking?
The Menü raised expectations higher but sadly did on this day not work for us- to the degree that I struggle to remember most of what we ate or any perks
Yes we had good guacamole and nice cevice but not standing over and above the quality of a Mexican chain restaurant in the UK like Wahaca for a fraction of the cost- a chicken dish was dry and the steak Bavette whilst good neither heart not excellent
Drinks were creative but again not overtly so
The atmosphere was nice and it had a cool, hipster vibe- but a michelin star? Sorry no- Ok food good to excellent service and a cool vibe is not enough for this- they seriously need to move up their game
Prices for this were not overtly excessive but too high
Sorry
🤮
If you like to be rushed and kicked out in the middle of your meal, this is the place for you.
This restaurant has a very strict policy regarding time use of your table. So strict, in fact, that the hostess kicked us out in the middle of ordering dessert. Fortunately, there are now many other options to enjoy high-end, creative Mexican food in New York at places that have actually also learned something about Mexican culture and do not kick you out in the middle of your email.
