Pastis New York Reviews from The Last Year
Never not great
Always solidly delicious and service is charming.
Food: 4 Decor: 4 Service: 3 Came here for a weekday lunch.
Escargots $20 garlic-parsley butter ~4/5. Tasty escargot with plenty of garlic butter, but I've had better. Onion Soup $18 gratinée ~4/5. Nice thick french onion soup that served as a nice dip for the steak sandwich. Steak Sandwich* $33 onions, gruyère, aïoli ~4/5. Steak was cooked nicely, and the overall sandwich was pretty good. Service was okay. There were long waits in between courses and to get the check.
Trying to be fancy but isn't really.
Good was good but overpriced for what it was. Probably won't return but the food was good.

I noticed lots of activity there on my way to The Whitney Museum. I stopped on my way back home to get some food. Glad I did too. One of the best Niçoise salads I've had in a long time. It was Bastille Day and a live band playing French tunes was performing. Good service at the bar, great ambiance.
Still a home run.
This is quintessential NYC thru and thru. Popped in here post a comedy show in Meatpacking. Saddled up at the bar and Christopher took great care of us. We wanted a taste of France - Foie Gras, Steak Tartare, and Escargot - my holy trinity of French starters with of course an ample helping of Frites. I'm in heaven. It was the bonafide perfect impromptu NYC night. Cannot wait to do it all over again one day.
The tastes and service is beyond worth it.
Definitely would come back, and I am from Arizona. Had the Dorade Royal en Papillote and the Grilled Branzino. Branzino probably the best I've had and it comes deboned !
The service & food here was beyond my expectations.
There was a very long wait for a table without reservations but was able to wait a shorter timeframe to sit at the bar. The staff here is amazingly welcoming & friendly. I also had THE BEST burger of my life here. The bread basket is amazing as well! This place is very popular, celebrities are spotted here at times. Expect a busy, loud atmosphere. Sitting outside is also available & likely less noisy.
On some days this is what medium well looks like .
Still love you, Pastis Great ambience

Pastis is a really incredible option for French food in the Village. It's a classic French bistro that offers an abundance of seats both inside and out. The menu features many different options to choose from, but both my guest & I opted for the filet steak frites. Perfectly cooked & arguably one of the best in the city, and very comparable to Raoul's (I might even like Pastis's sauce more). Prior to the steak, we started with some oysters which were good...nothing crazy - just your typical oysters. The service was attentive and friendly, and kindly allowed us to take as much time as needed. Reservations at Pastis aren't difficult, but should be made a few weeks prior to ensure an appropriate time.
Fun lively atmosphere.
Great new york classic feeling. Fairly large menu and everyone i was with was very happy with their food. Great steak and frites!

4.5 stars My manager told me that he had been surprised when I picked Pastis as our team lunch destination, though I could not understand why. I used to frequent the restaurant at its previous location and had always enjoyed it. However, despite its being in this new space for about 5 years, I had yet to pay it a visit. So, I thought that it was, in fact, the perfect spot. The newer location was much more spacious and comfortable than the other. The crowd was still hip and beautiful, but perhaps a little less so. It had that true French brasserie décor and atmosphere, and the menu was full of authentic classics. My manager and I were seated at one of the less desirable tables right near the bar, and, though we were waiting on a late colleague, we were told that we had to put our entire order in at once; we could not just get some appetizers while we waited. Aside from these atmospheric issues, I found the food to be excellent. Long hunks of crusty baguette were served with our preserved sardine and pork pÒté appetizers. The little fish were presented in their tin, accompanied by lemon and bordier butter. They were salty, briny, and flavorful. The terrine was plated with mustard and cornichon pickles. It was creamy and not overly rich. I should even mention that my seltzer was served with both a lemon and a lime, and the large glass was continuously refilled. When it came to my main course, I opted for the classic Niçoise Salad, which was packed with confit tuna, eggs, haricot vert, tomatoes, and more. It was another winning dish, served in a generous portion. We wound up skipping dessert, but my hot coffee was bold and rich, which is exactly how I like it. We all really enjoyed our food, and I definitely proved that Pastis was a great selection for our mid-day meal.
Noisy & Crowded; Good Food
This is a very crowded, noisy place, so make reservations if you want to eat here, especially on the weekend. All entrees were great; we had the mussels, the tuna crisp and steak. The wine list is pricey; we had 15 ounces of the house Chablis, which, while good, was $66. Service was good.
worth dropping by
I had a business conference in the city last year and i went here after a friend's recommendation and I must say that I loved my experience with Pastis. I enjoyed the lobster cooked in butter, french onion soup and their profiteroles. I would definitely go back.
On a cold New York evening we decided to go to this place.
It was a bit of an Uber ride for us, but came highly recommended by someone. ++Pate. This was so so good. I just kept eating it. I wish the butter wasn't as hard as it was, making it difficult to spread on my bread. ++ Mussels . The garlic sauce accentuated the taste of this dish. I'm not a fish person, but I kept eating this. ++ Ricotta Ravioli. On point as well. -- Tartar. Probably one of the worst steak tartares I've had. I don't think it was seasoned properly. Tasted awfully dry and bland. We landed leaving half the dish. So why only 3 instead of 4 stars. Well, here's the part I absolutely didn't like. They seated us outside - I'm all for outdoor seating where these restaurants have encroached on the footpath post pandemic. However the heater was suboptimal (whether intentional or unintentional, I don't know), so we were feeling cold. I asked her to turn up the heat and she said that this was the highest. She said she can supply is blankets for $20 or benies for $20. Are you kidding me? I'm paying good money to eat here and you cant ensure that your patrons are cozy/comfortable and trying to upsell us stuff to keep warm. I've been to a ton of places and never seen anything like this. It definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

We went to Pastis last night- was super excited after claiming a reservation on ResX. Around 5:15pm, the ResX app was down which unfortunately meant I could not see the details for my 7:15pm reservation. I called the restaurant to see if I'd still be able to come in and after a long wait on the phone, the host was so incredibly rude and actually HUNG UP ON ME!! I am NOT one to write a review like this, and I was so shocked that this happened at such a high end restaurant. Luckily for me, the app came back before my reservation and I called the restaurant back to clarify that my res was still in their system. Once again, he was incredibly rude and sassy. Once we were seated the same host gave us menus - which were only drink menus and we weren't given food menus until we asked for them. We sat outside and we're freezing so if it's a cold night I don't recommend sitting outside. With all that, the food was very delicious and I would recommend to people who want a good meal.
The restaurant is iconic.
While it was super busy and the bar is packed with people and those waiting for a table, Naomi was super attentive. She asked if I wanted to review the menu u and then made suggestions. I told her we were worried of the special selling out and she immediately went tot he manager to ask to put one aside and added it to our bar bill! She is amazing!!!! Thank you for a wonderful moment in the hustle of the bar!

Excellent dining experience.
We ended up eating here after shopping in the area. I got a 6 pm dinner reservation on a Saturday. I am from Philly so very familiar with Starr restaurants, including his other NYC restaurant. I was not sure what to expect, but was really pleased with the dining experience. We were greeted warmly, the food was excellent as was the service, and they acknowledged my birthday. ( That is important to me). There was no pretension. I have since recommended Pastis to others as a great choice if in the Meatpacking District.

The restaurant exudes charm and sophistication, with its classic Parisian decor and bustling atmosphere. The ambiance is lively and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a casual lunch or a romantic dinner. The menu at Pastis features a variety of French classics, with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. The Steak Frites is a standout dish, with tender, flavorful steak served with crispy fries and a delicious sauce. The Moules Frites is another must-try, with plump, juicy mussels and perfectly cooked fries. In addition to the food, the service at Pastis is excellent. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, ensuring that every guest has a pleasant dining experience. The wine list is also impressive, with a variety of French wines to choose from. Overall, Pastis is a wonderful spot to enjoy classic French cuisine in a lively, authentic setting. The food, service, and ambiance are all top-notch, and I look forward to returning soon.
I was able to score a reservation last minute on this busy
I was able to score a reservation last minute on this busy Valentine's Day weekend. Once I arrived, I met with the hostess and confirmed the reservation. They seated us within 3 minutes, and our server right away provided water and bread! The ambiance screams romantic with the soft lighting, candles on the table and soft tunes! Our waitress was very attentive and provided exceptional service! Not only is the ambiance great but the food is even better plus the portions are a decent size! We received tons of fries with our meals and additional fresh bread! Drinks : not pictured ( I got 1 St. German Spritz & my partner got 1 agave marmalade ) if you like sweet drinks order St. German Sprits! Appetizer : onion soup ( a cheese masterpiece) Main course : my partner got the Cheeseburger a l americane & I got the steak frites ! Service :5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Food : 5/5
As always, a fabulous evening.
Early cocktails at the bar followed by a comfortable table for 8. Appreciated how smoothly our server took care of us. Great wines and wonderful food. From burgers, to steak frites, to branzino, to duck... Everyone was thrilled with their choices. Great birthday celebration and Fabulous evening overall. Thank you Pastis team!
This is the place for a cool lunch with friends anytime.
I tried my first escargot and it was delicious. Definitely not what you think and I say just go for it. Service was friendly but definitely busy on a Friday afternoon. The ambiance of the restaurant itself was fun and cool, and great location in the city for cool shopping and things. For lunch I got the croque monsieur. The overall presentation was great with ample cheese, lovely sauce and soft toasted bread. It could use more ham in the sandwich itself for my appetite. The fries are really good too. Grab some friends and have a nice lunch!
Very mediocre food at ridiculous prices! The chicken
Very mediocre food at ridiculous prices! The chicken sandwich was underwhelming- lacked flavor. Avocado "tartin"- was mushy and completely flavorless. Coffee was lukewarm Thoroughly underwhelming, can get better tasting food for a fraction of the price in many other places in the city. Atmosphere was nice- I guess?
Amazing Brunch

Trendy brasserie with a modern take on french classics
Located in the West Village, Pastis is a trendy brasserie focussed on french classics. Bar is beautiful and the bartender makes a great negroni. Menu is very good with lots of options from their renowned burger to more classical cuisine, such as boudin blanc. For starters we had 2x foie gras parfaits, 1x sardines and 1x shrimp cocktail which were all generous and delicious. For mains we had 1x rabbit ragu, which was great although quite small, 1x dorade (daily special) and 1x veal escalope, which were both delicious. Then one of us had the salade lyonnaise which was too salty and claggy with too much sauce overpowering the rest of the dish and salt in addition to the bacon making it unappetising. A sticky toffee pudding was shared for dessert which was delicious. Only gripe is that the staff are very unhelpful, both front of house and servers. If you arrive early, don't expect to be seated (at your table, or at another temporarily, even outside) - instead we had a drink at the bar which was still nice. It was painful trying to get a server's attention. Overall we had a great time at Pastis, food was delicious, menu had plenty of variety, and the atmosphere was great with good music.

Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
