Quince San Francisco Reviews from The Last 180 Days
Wow. Just... wow. Quince & Chef Tusk- you are the absolute pinnacle of all the restaurants I have been to. Did I love every single dish? No but everyone's tastes are different and I'm picky. But I was adventurous tonight and the ones that blew it out of the water will be forever in my dreams, especially the geoduck, the wagyu (+$75) , and truffle courses. I feel that most michelins are strong in the beginning and can be amiss for main courses, but it was amazing throughout at Quince. Moreover, what really made our night was the service. A team of highly skilled personnel runs this well oil machine and truly know how to make you feel like your best friend. I would like to give a shout out to Conan, who not only graced us with his knowledge of wine and beverage but went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed every single detail. He even gave us a tour of the private room and cellar! Also the dining room is just gorgeous gorgeous. There definitely isn't enough chatter about this place as much as Crenn or Benu, but this is last of the 3 stars I have been to in SF and it definitely takes the cake of the most memorable and beautiful experience!! Thank you Quince team for helping me celebrate my birthday.
They made us feel like family and helped relax the situation by being relaxed and funny but professional at the same time. Their expert knowledge about not just the food and wine but also the history of the art, the decor, and the tableware was also impressive. It truly felt like visiting your friends and family at their restaurant, something not easily done in such a prestigious restaurant. The food was outstanding as expected but the dining experience from the entire staff, including a surprise visit from Chef Tusk, was definitely worth every penny. If we lived closer we would definitely visit Quince often.
It was nice. They play movies on silent on a wall in the back and the portions are responsible. I will say that if you are thinking of doing family style I'd recommend against it. The portions aren't that big to do that. I'm the end you are still going to be hungry. I didn't have alcohol that night so I can't tell you about that, my my friend who did said it the drinks were good.
Perhaps my disappoint was that Quince mostly failed my expectations but rather it didn’t live up to what their promise is. Service was great, staff were generally knowledgeable and helpful. We had the truffle and the wine pairing and the extra offering of the added pasted course. The truffle was certainly underwhelming. I barely smelled the flavor on most of the courses. The redeeming dishes were limited. Perhaps what stood out was the desert. The wine pairing was literally terrible. Nine of us finished our glasses and we usually drink wine by the case!! Bread was delicious!! Lol
The food and wine pairing were both fantastic. I went with a good friend, Anish. We usually make our own wine choices, but after seeing their pairing, we knew we had to try--that was the right call. Each bottle matched the its food with nothing 'boring' in sight.Mackerel and "Whaka Piripiri Mai" 2020 stood out as the best combination of the night. We were split on the spaghetti in smoked sturgeon broth + caviar and the 40 egg yolk pasta w/white truffle (a $150/person add-on) as our favorite courses. The scallops (well, sea bass w/scallops) were another stand-out, practically melting in your mouth, almost like butter. The dessert (hazelnut + chocolate with consistency like a chocolate truffle but in the shape of a full-sized white truffle) was a lot of fun too. Our least favorite was probably the wagyu--we've grown attached to Japanese wagyu but can see that being a weird choice for Quince as there isn't much to do besides sear lightly and serve. Oh, back to wine: I had never seen non-bubbly wines from champagne before, so the Dufour "Bicheret" 2010 was a cool surprise/learning + I'm always thankful to try a new, rustic Barolo-maker (Elio Sandri Perno 2014). Their staff were really friendly and knowledgeable, the shared dining room felt spacious and private... and yeah, just generally an incredible dining experience.
Aloha, us Hawaiians love "Our" city, and at least once while in San Francisco you need to treat yourself to a very fine meal. Quince should be on the top of your list. Yes, it's 3 Michelin stars and dully worthy of. The service is impeccable, the food incredible, plentiful and beautifully presented and yes the wine pairing was amazing. Every dish matched perfectly. From the start, the trio of one bites set the tone as it had truffles. And you know how much I love truffles. As a matter of fact several dishes were complimented with truffles. Oh so yummy! Another dish had a wallop of caviar, now I'm in heaven. "These are a few of my favorite things" I sang in my head. They have their own farm, where they grow amazing veggies, from micro to things I've never heard of, so delicious. Oh and yes, they did serve sunchoke which seems to be the buzz, very mild and complimenting. The service, well we had at least 7 different people come by, wow now that's attentive service. All smiles (yes behind a mask), it was interesting all the men were on the outside, thus the waitstaff did what made sense, to serve all 3 of them first at once and the back row of ladies after all at once. I liked that sensibility instead of ladies first. Each waitstaff took turns explaining the dishes and wine pair, nice to have a variety of servers and they were all so nice. They treated us like we were the only people there, in fact we did have a very lovely area all to ourselves. Every dish was an experience I promise you'll love all. And if you love desserts, well you've definitely come to the right place. More than you can eat, and they gave us pretty to-go boxes for the leftover desserts. Now check out my 30+ pictures. Enjoy.
