Red Hat on the River Irvington Reviews from The Last Year

This used to be one of our favorite places for a special occasion. Been coming for years but this week was our last time. Food was bland and overpriced. Their "cup of soup" was so small our entire table laughed at it. And $13 for a scoop of plain ice cream?? So disappointed as the view is amazing and again, it use to be one of our favs.
Sat at the bar! It was small but good ambiance.
Those sitting in the restaurant had a nice view of the review. Food was excellent.
The food was not to my liking.
The service was slow due to the amount of people that were there. The atmosphere was dark but the people having dinner were very pleasant.

Had dinner with friends last night; definitely not worth a $300 tab to say the least. All five of us were disappointed in their entrees. My husband requested his steak to be cooked rare - it was completely raw, bloody and not edible. After asking it to be cooked further, it was returned overcooked and very tough. The branzino was smelly and bland. No one enjoyed dinner. Somehow, the new owners think that by serving large orders of frozen French fries with your entree justifies a large tab. Other than the fantastic view, this place has gone down hill. Save your money; we have so many other great restaurants here in Westchester.
Feels like it has gone downhill.
This place used to feel elevated, but no more. Service provided is more akin to a diner these days ... food is OK ... you are basically paying Manhattan prices, though. Also, front of house can't conceal their delight when they tell you your seating requests can't be accommodated...

The view of the Hudson River is beautiful, but the food was only average. I had the hanger steak with frites. The steak was more fatty that expected and the peppercorn sauce wasn't very flavorful.
Exhorbitant prices, slow service, left hungry
We had been to Red Hat several time before new management took over and loved it. It was somewhat expensive, but had a less expensive bistro menu as well. This menu no longer exists. While the atmosphere inside and views outside remain as beautiful as ever, the prices have skyrocketed, service was slow - 2 hours for two people is a long time to be sitting - and we both left hungry. Four scallops on a bed of black lentils the thickness of sauce cost $46. It was served on a salad plate, no less! An entree salad b, still expensive for what it was, was ordered because one of us could not justify other appealing items at the price shown. Three drinks, a shared appetizer, two entrees, and a shared dessert was $250 with tax and tip. We recently ate at a really nice Manhattan French restaurant, with two drinks, and it was just as delicious for $100 less. We will not return to Red Hat.
Great food, amazing ambiance and service .
I will definitely return can't wait to try the rooftop
good food.
lots of vegetarian and vegan options yelp should let me post short reviews
Beautiful location, cool building, unique interior.
The waiter was very attentive and nice, and all the food was absolutely delicious. We'd absolutely make the drive over from NJ again.
Insane ambiance.
The water view is breathtaking. The food and service were equally fantastic. I look forward to another trip out there
Go for the view, not the burgers
Went twice on a Monday for burger special. First time got the order wrong, second time was not so tasty. Nice views however. Will try roof in nicer weather for drinks, don't think I'll order food again.
Don't miss it
I ordered the hangar steak and my companion had the beef burger. Both dishes were cooked exactly as we requested, tender and tasty. I hadn't been to the Hat in several years, but now I'm motivated to return. Great meal, ambience and service. Of course, the view is amazing right on the Hudson River.
Location better than food
Went with a friend to enjoy the first Sunday brunch offering of 2024. The restaurant has a perfect location, with great views of the Hudson River (just not on the foggy day of my visit sadly). In the restrooms they have photos of people dining on the patio in the summer - that looked great to me! As for the food, it clearly was not as stunning as the location. My scallops were cooked "just ok" and clearly were not caramelized as one would expect. Service was just average at best, as was my friend's dish. Given the prices, I will probably wait until summer to try again - hopefully on the patio
Good food with a view...
If you're looking for great spot to host brunch for a special occasion, look no further than Red Hat on the River. Not only is the food good, but the view of the Hudson is spectacular. Try visiting during the warmer months.
On the river
A spot on the river that you can't beat. Martinis are done proper, nice wine list. Food is special, changing occasionally, never disappointed. It's alway busy so reserve your table. Been going there for a decade, a very nice "bistro" restaurant.
Nice
Five of us seated promptly for a Sunday brunch. Restaurant located by the Hudson river. Good views. We had omelets, eggs Norwegian, and salmon sandwich platter. All served with sides. Began with soup served hot and tasty. Portions good, prices reasonable except for soup ($13 a bowl) and tea ($6, that was more than a cup of $5 coffee).
Magic on the river
The location is amazing! The view of the bridge and then the city skyline. Service was warm and knowledgeable about the menu and cocktails. Food was very tasty and the drinks were strong and unique. The prices were in line with using top quilty ingredients. We canโt wait to go back
Great spot for an outdoor lunch ... with a view of the Hudson River
I enjoyed lunch with an old friend in a spectacular location overlooking the Hudson River. Excellent attentive service We enjoyed a simple lunch ... an delicious lobster roll for me and a burger for my companion
