Restaurant is beautiful all around - food, service, and ambiance. Had a fabulous experience when I dinner here with my brother a month ago. Highly recommend.

Good food and amazing service.
This place is a gem ... the food is a modern twist to a nostalgic less commonly served restaurant menu

I have recently visited twice again and I have to update my review to 5/5 stars because wow, some of the items we got that we didn't the first time we went blew it out of the park! Two personal favorites that I think about quite frequently are the chili cheese kulcha and the Black Sheep Keema Masala (and wow pav that comes with it is so good, we always order an extra one).
🙂

I've been to the Palo Alto location before (which I liked much better) but I still liked Rooh SF. The interior is not big but it's nice and I got same day reservations for a Friday. My favorite things here are the drinks (they're very unique, can't go wrong with most of them) and the paneer pinwheel. For appetizers, we ordered assorted papad & crisps, green pea & goat cheese kulcha, and spicy shrimp. For the mains, we got a paneer pinwheel, butter chicken, a lamb dish, daal, and fish with kichdi. All were really good. They have an amazing mocktail menu and you can sub the non-alcoholic alcohol in the mocktail for the real thing! I did that for the Pink City and it was amazing.
🙂
Food: come for the appetizers and desserts.
Main courses are not the best. We started dinner with a rosé and a few appetizers. The crowd favorite was the Dahi Puri. Do yourself a favor and get that. The pomegranate glazed pork belly was also very good. We did not finish the traditional butter chicken. Chicken was rubbery and felt very low quality. Ended dinner with cashew praline cake. It was yummy and good way to finish the dinner. Service: service was very good. They were attentive and made sure we were taken care of.Ambiance: nice interior that is a bit cramped. Feels more like New York than San Francisco.

Amidst a slew of upscale Indian restaurants descending upon
Amidst a slew of upscale Indian restaurants descending upon San Francisco, Rooh rises to the top, thanks to an innovative menu that fuses the subcontinent's myriad flavors with modern restaurant staples (oysters, pork belly, burrata). The bold India-goes-industrial décor is a bit paint-by-numbers, with vivid jewel tones and an oversized mural, but the vibe is engaging and the cocktails quite unique.Rooh's cuisine is approachable, but an extra degree of care and punched-up ingredient quality are reflected in the pricing. Opt for a meal of delicious small plates, like redolent bites of spice-marinated chicken under a colorful disc of crisp shreds of kataifi. Wrap up with unique desserts like a cashew praline cake paired with phirni mousse and thaindai ice cream.

Went here with some friends after getting a last minute
Went here with some friends after getting a last minute reservation on Saturday. Luckily they had a cancellation so we were able to make it in. The place was packed otherwise. We got the dahi puris and lamb shoulder special to start. Both were really good. For main course, we ordered the lamb shank nihari and paneer pinwheel with a few naans. Everything was great! We also had a few cocktails which had very interesting indian twist! The staff was very attentive! Parking was easy to find.Since it is a fine dining place, the prices were a bit on the higher end but the food and service made up for it.

Came in on Saturday evening with a 9pm reservation for four guest. We were seated immediately and advised on how to order and how much. We had a vegetarian and pescatarian in the party and both of us were able to eat without needing to edit any dishes for our dietary restrictions. The food was delicious and the dim lighting and overall noise of the restaurant created a very cozy feel.

I had the pleasure of dining at Rooh, an Indian fusion
I had the pleasure of dining at Rooh, an Indian fusion restaurant, and overall, it was a great experience. The food was unique and had an interesting mix of flavors that blended traditional Indian cuisine with modern twists. One dish that stood out was the paani puri with cream cheese - and it was shockingly good. The ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant, with a modern and upscale decor. The service was also attentive and helpful in guiding us through the menu.
😒
We enjoyed the food on Valentine's day.
Rich sauces with a light kick of spice accompanied all main dishes we received. The main off mark would be the uncomfortable outdoor eating experience and how we felt abandoned at times at the beginning of our meal. It seemed they weren't prepared to serve food and drink until 6 while reservations started at 5, and we arrived at 5:30. It was uncomfortable waiting. The wind nearly negated the torch they provided, and we asked to be moved to no effect while another couple who arrived after us and sat next to us were quickly moved (inside?) within 10 minutes of arrival. Eat inside if possible at this location located on a possibly windy street.
Out f the world Indian delicacies with a twist. Appeals to the palette on a foreign land. Be sure to get in early as the kitchen closes early.

I accidentally saw a short video on envibe about ROOH and really wanted to go to this place. I was pleasantly surprised by the interior of the restaurant and the serving of dishes. I will definitely come again

Sophisticated Indian fusion
Modern Indian fusion spot in SoMA. Came here with three other friends after landing in SFO. Reservations accepted. They accept credit cards. Indoor and outdoor dining available. Restrooms are available in the far right hand side of the restaurant. Our waiter was nice and the busboy came by frequently to fill our waters. The puffs were tasty and come in 6. The jackfruit tacos were actually heavier than you’d think and come in two. The potato puff was buried underneath various sauces and had more of a pancake texture than I thought. The butter chicken was nondescript. The lamb pappafry was a bit on the saltier side so I would suggest having the saffron rice on the side. The garlic naan could’ve had more garlic but it was good for scooping up the leftover sauces.
😒
It just didn't meet expectations flavor wise.
Nice ambiance and staff, but nothing wowed and the curries were very off in flavor. Too much tomato paste. The best thing was probably the cocktails and the shrimp appetizer.
Huge vegetarian selection. Loved the tandoori artichoke. Pretty atmosphere, kind staff, fast service. Will come back.

Amazing!! Such a great fusion of flavors and creative /unique dishes. Would recommend to anyone in the Bay Area

Rooh was one of the first Indian restaurants I tried after
Rooh was one of the first Indian restaurants I tried after moving to San Francisco. I had high hopes for this progressive Indian restaurant since this is one of my favorite cuisines. I started out by ordering the Tandori Octopus and the Vegetable and Fava Dumplings. The Octopus was excellent. Cooked to perfection with delicate seasoning, however the dumplings were too spicy for me to be enjoyable. We asked the waiter to provide non-spicy options and were directed to the Masala Jackfruit Tacos. Unfortunately, these were spicy as well but also very good nonetheless. My favorite dish that was tolerable in terms of spice level was the Tandoori artichoke. I love the creaminess of this dish paired with the crispiness of the artichoke. I would come back to Rooh solely for this dish and the service. The manager was incredibly friendly, and provided really great service along with the waiter. Highly recommend Rooh if you love spicy dishes.
Food extremely westernized and underwhelming. Cocktails were okay. Would not go back!
🙂
Extremely expensive for the amount of food you get.
Butter chicken is 3 small pieces of meat in a small bowl of gravy. Everything is very tasty though. Just know that you'll have to order several naan to fill you up.
🤢
Unfortunately one of the worst dining experiences we've had.
We had a reservation and were sat down, ordered some apps and entrees at one time. The appetizers came out which were very good, but the rest was downhill from here. - our entrees did not come out, we had already waited 30 mins after finishing the apps- noticed that the tables that ordered after us already got their entrees, so we asked - apparently our orders were not entered - 20 or so mins later, entrees came out - waitress took our dessert order shortly - 30 mins later, still no desserts but the table next to us got theirs - waitress brought out the check and the desserts were charged on there (!!) but still no dessert - then was told one of the desserts was out... so had to order something else - finally desserts came 20 mins... we already paid and were ready to leave asap The food was good, but the service was so horrible that it left such a bad impression - would never want anyone to experience this. Cherry on top - the restaurant did not apologize for the poor service.
😒
At first, our experience was lovely.
Our appetizers came out fairly quickly and the food was quite tasty and a very unique presentation of some traditional Indian cuisine. Our foodie friend even placed Rooh in his "Tier 1" list of restaurants to recommend to all friends. However, things got worse from there on out. Once we finished our appetizers, we were forced to wait at least 20-30 minutes for our entrees to come out. We had been forgotten. When we reminded one of the waiters, we were told that our food would be right out. Apparently a mistake had been made and our food had been given to the wrong table. Another 10-15 minutes pass and our food comes out. But instead of coming to us, the server starts placing the items on the table next to us. I had to let him know that those were the dishes that we had ordered and that it was probably our food. The people sitting at the table next to us were equally confused and agreed that it was not their food. Immediately after we get our food, our waitress comes up to us to ask us if we wanted dessert. We had barely made a dent into our entrees. We go ahead and order dessert and finish up our food. The check is brought out before we are given our two desserts. We pay and continue to wait for our desserts. Another 10-15 minutes passes. It's getting late and the people around us are leaving. The waitstaff is packing up the outdoor patio furniture in preparation for the restaurant closing. We remind another server about our desserts. They had reportedly accidentally given our desserts to another table. So we wait 10 minutes and one of two desserts comes out. Another 10 minutes passes. We again have to remind someone that we have already paid and that we are still waiting on dessert #2. Ten minutes later, dessert #2 comes out. Overall, this dining experience took much longer than necessary. The food was delicious but we expected better service.
🤮
If I could review 0/5 I would.
This is undoubtedly the worst restaurant I have been to in the Bay. I don't know if they're actually a Michelin star because the service clearly does not seem like it. Why tf do you take reservations for 8:45 PM when your kitchen closes 15 minutes later??? You don't tell this in advance, then rush your guests to order all at once and refuse to give an extra piece of bread, are you seriously kidding me?On top of that, they have the audacity to come and arrogantly give all that they "had left" in their kitchen when told about their terrible service. Lost a customer for life.

ROOH was a delight: food was so innovative and flavorful, unlike any other Indian restaurant I've been to! The flavors are creative and just work, like the jackfruit tacos and the fried cauliflower dish. I enjoyed eating here! Taking a star off because The lamb shank was slightly too salty for my preference, and all 4/4 of our drinks all tasted kind of strange (we got different cocktails!). The presentation was so beautiful so I really wanted to like my cocktail, but it was a bit of a weird taste...not sure if I would get the drinks again, but food definitely yes!!
😍
A restaurant that touches your “Spirit”
We booked for 8pm but wanted to sit early, we called to request & we got a call confirming our request. We were seated within a few minutes of reaching. Very prompt & courteous service. We ordered & by the time we sanitised our hands, the starters were at the table. The Dahi Chaat disappeared in no time, didn’t know where the hot, steaming Chilli Cheese Kulcha disappeared. The chutneys with the papad were delicious. The mains too arrived pretty soon - steaming hot & very tasty and filling. The presentation of the Edamame Tikki was very well done. The garlic naan & saffron rice too were upto the mark. The drinks had interesting names and were well conjured. All in all a wonderful experience & certainly VFM. Will visit again next week before flying back home
We were summarily happy with our recent Sunday dinner at Rooh. The food was top notch. The seasoning behind everything we ordered, including the praline cashew cake, delivered amazing flavors. Please make sure to leave room for dessert! Service was solid, not great, as the restaurant filled up after we arrived. That said, we were able to order drinks and food in a timely manner.

Have to update to old review because their food is absolutely heavenly this time when I tried Every time I try food outside, I tend to dissect it mentally to get to know the ingredients so that I can recreate it, but the dishes here are sooo unique (in a good way) that i couldn't figure out what all they had put. I love their Tandoori artichoke. And this time I tried their stuffed kulcha and it was amazing as well. Their drinks are interesting but can be a hit or a miss

When Jimi Hendrix did a cover version of Bob Dylan's 'All
When Jimi Hendrix did a cover version of Bob Dylan's 'All Along the Watchtower' he took a good thing and made it better. Creativity and reinterpretation are aspirations worth supporting but if the new version isn't better than the original, yet costs much more, it doesn't make any sense. My friend and I ordered vegetarian dishes and while they were pretty tasty they weren't great. Worse, they were so loaded with cream, butter or ghee that they felt like the easy route to good taste rather than the skilled route, besides being pretty unhealthy. Both my friend and I had upset stomachs at the end of the meal. If you're looking for overpriced fusion frou frou, go for it. This is not the place for great Indian vegetarian food though. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was okay.

The quality of the food met the price range, tasty and worth it. What gave this restaurant a 2 star was the service, although the hostess was great! Our server Richardson forgot about our party of 6 and I personally had to go ask for more cocktails, a desert menu, and the check. Also, it was my friends birthday. We were constantly waiting for a period of 20-30 minutes to be checked in on. Respectfully food was good, ambiance okay, service... well I wouldn't go back again.

Came to ROOH for dinner with my bf last Saturday and we really enjoyed the food, the drinks and ambience here. We would recommend getting indoor seating if you can since it is much nice than the outdoor area.FOOD 5/5This place is Indian Fusion so the food is not very authentic. However, all the dishes we ordered are very flavorful and we enjoy all of them. The Chili Cheese Kulcha and Dahi Puri are both creamy with the nice kick of curry. The Tandoori Octopus was not as soft and juicy as we expected but it was very well seasoned. The Lamb Pepper Fry was also very good - since we were not very hungry, the portion was perfect but normally I would expect bigger portion for a large dish. Also we for dessert we got the coconut gelato (Elaneer Payasam) and Thani ice cream. The coconut gelato was good - even though not that impressive but the Thani ice cream is a MUST TRY!!DRINK 5/5 ( would give a 6 if I can)Looks like Rooh update their drink menu recently since I could not find the drinks when checking Yelp. But the drinks all looked AMAZING and we both had hard time making our selections. I ended ordered the Chennai Shikanji and my bf ordered the Khiladi Kumar which we really enjoyed our own selection. Chennai Shikanji was citrusy and aromatic with a nice kick of curry powder. I was skeptical when I see curry powder as part of the drink but I could really taste it and it goes really well with the drink. Khiladi Kumar was a strong drink and more on a bitter side - which was great for those who enjoy strong and bitter drinkss. They also have popcorn to eat with the drink which I think was a pretty fun combination. All the other drinks seemed very interesting - we definitely come back to try different drinks next time!!

This is the best Indian restaurant in San Francisco
This is the best Indian restaurant in San Francisco according to all my Indian friends. Rooh is a modern, Michelin-recommended Indian restaurant in the SoMA district of San Francisco. We went for SF restaurant week and had the restaurant week $75 prix fixe menu. Everything was incredible, from the instagrammable cocktails to the vibrant interior and flavorful, creative dishes. They are vegetarian-friendly as well. You can't go wrong with anything you order!
🤮
It's a joke they think they are premium.
The service was bad, food bland, super overpriced and you can do better anywhere in the city.Skip this

My husband took me to this place for my Birthday last night.
Totally loved the vibe inside the restaurant. We got there around 5:30ish and it was not very crowded. The hostess and the staffs were super nice and accommodating. We tried few small plates and shared an entree. Dahi puri: 5/5, this blew my mind. It was full of flavor. I will come over for it next time. Lamb Keema: 5/5, very flavorful and didn't have strong overpowering smell of lamb. We both loved it.Chili kulcha: 3/5, it was good but you would get this flavor on any other restaurantsCauliflower Koliwada: 4/5, loved the sauce and flavor. Tandoori Monkfish Malabar: 2.5 /5, This was very average. It had some spice in the top but it didn't have any flavor inside. We were very disappointed by this entree. Chicken Ghee roast: 4/5, This was another dish that was full of flavorful and spices. I will definitely return for the small plates, drinks and vibe. For the entrees, I felt it is overpriced. Parking is not bad in the area. We have tried most of the new modern Indian restaurants that are Michelin recommended in the Bay, compared to other places ROOH is okay. I will give it 4/5 for the ambience, staff and small plates!
😍

Excellent service and food! Loved it! It was totally different Indian food I experienced. We will come again. Recommended to everyone just check the prices before your reservation. We didn't and we end up paying $1000 for 4 people lots of drinks also but it was worth every penny
