It just didn't meet expectations flavor wise.
Nice ambiance and staff, but nothing wowed and the curries were very off in flavor. Too much tomato paste. The best thing was probably the cocktails and the shrimp appetizer.
Huge vegetarian selection. Loved the tandoori artichoke. Pretty atmosphere, kind staff, fast service. Will come back.
😍
Amazing!! Such a great fusion of flavors and creative
Amazing!! Such a great fusion of flavors and creative /unique dishes. Would recommend to anyone in the Bay Area

Rooh was one of the first Indian restaurants I tried after
Rooh was one of the first Indian restaurants I tried after moving to San Francisco. I had high hopes for this progressive Indian restaurant since this is one of my favorite cuisines. I started out by ordering the Tandori Octopus and the Vegetable and Fava Dumplings. The Octopus was excellent. Cooked to perfection with delicate seasoning, however the dumplings were too spicy for me to be enjoyable. We asked the waiter to provide non-spicy options and were directed to the Masala Jackfruit Tacos. Unfortunately, these were spicy as well but also very good nonetheless. My favorite dish that was tolerable in terms of spice level was the Tandoori artichoke. I love the creaminess of this dish paired with the crispiness of the artichoke. I would come back to Rooh solely for this dish and the service. The manager was incredibly friendly, and provided really great service along with the waiter. Highly recommend Rooh if you love spicy dishes.
Food extremely westernized and underwhelming. Cocktails were okay. Would not go back!
🙂
Extremely expensive for the amount of food you get.
Butter chicken is 3 small pieces of meat in a small bowl of gravy. Everything is very tasty though. Just know that you'll have to order several naan to fill you up.

Unfortunately one of the worst dining experiences we've had.
We had a reservation and were sat down, ordered some apps and entrees at one time. The appetizers came out which were very good, but the rest was downhill from here. - our entrees did not come out, we had already waited 30 mins after finishing the apps- noticed that the tables that ordered after us already got their entrees, so we asked - apparently our orders were not entered - 20 or so mins later, entrees came out - waitress took our dessert order shortly - 30 mins later, still no desserts but the table next to us got theirs - waitress brought out the check and the desserts were charged on there (!!) but still no dessert - then was told one of the desserts was out... so had to order something else - finally desserts came 20 mins... we already paid and were ready to leave asap The food was good, but the service was so horrible that it left such a bad impression - would never want anyone to experience this. Cherry on top - the restaurant did not apologize for the poor service.
😒
At first, our experience was lovely.
Our appetizers came out fairly quickly and the food was quite tasty and a very unique presentation of some traditional Indian cuisine. Our foodie friend even placed Rooh in his "Tier 1" list of restaurants to recommend to all friends. However, things got worse from there on out. Once we finished our appetizers, we were forced to wait at least 20-30 minutes for our entrees to come out. We had been forgotten. When we reminded one of the waiters, we were told that our food would be right out. Apparently a mistake had been made and our food had been given to the wrong table. Another 10-15 minutes pass and our food comes out. But instead of coming to us, the server starts placing the items on the table next to us. I had to let him know that those were the dishes that we had ordered and that it was probably our food. The people sitting at the table next to us were equally confused and agreed that it was not their food. Immediately after we get our food, our waitress comes up to us to ask us if we wanted dessert. We had barely made a dent into our entrees. We go ahead and order dessert and finish up our food. The check is brought out before we are given our two desserts. We pay and continue to wait for our desserts. Another 10-15 minutes passes. It's getting late and the people around us are leaving. The waitstaff is packing up the outdoor patio furniture in preparation for the restaurant closing. We remind another server about our desserts. They had reportedly accidentally given our desserts to another table. So we wait 10 minutes and one of two desserts comes out. Another 10 minutes passes. We again have to remind someone that we have already paid and that we are still waiting on dessert #2. Ten minutes later, dessert #2 comes out. Overall, this dining experience took much longer than necessary. The food was delicious but we expected better service.
🤮
If I could review 0/5 I would.
This is undoubtedly the worst restaurant I have been to in the Bay. I don't know if they're actually a Michelin star because the service clearly does not seem like it. Why tf do you take reservations for 8:45 PM when your kitchen closes 15 minutes later??? You don't tell this in advance, then rush your guests to order all at once and refuse to give an extra piece of bread, are you seriously kidding me?On top of that, they have the audacity to come and arrogantly give all that they "had left" in their kitchen when told about their terrible service. Lost a customer for life.

ROOH was a delight: food was so innovative and flavorful, unlike any other Indian restaurant I've been to! The flavors are creative and just work, like the jackfruit tacos and the fried cauliflower dish. I enjoyed eating here! Taking a star off because The lamb shank was slightly too salty for my preference, and all 4/4 of our drinks all tasted kind of strange (we got different cocktails!). The presentation was so beautiful so I really wanted to like my cocktail, but it was a bit of a weird taste...not sure if I would get the drinks again, but food definitely yes!!
😍
A restaurant that touches your “Spirit”
We booked for 8pm but wanted to sit early, we called to request & we got a call confirming our request. We were seated within a few minutes of reaching. Very prompt & courteous service. We ordered & by the time we sanitised our hands, the starters were at the table. The Dahi Chaat disappeared in no time, didn’t know where the hot, steaming Chilli Cheese Kulcha disappeared. The chutneys with the papad were delicious. The mains too arrived pretty soon - steaming hot & very tasty and filling. The presentation of the Edamame Tikki was very well done. The garlic naan & saffron rice too were upto the mark. The drinks had interesting names and were well conjured. All in all a wonderful experience & certainly VFM. Will visit again next week before flying back home
We were summarily happy with our recent Sunday dinner at Rooh. The food was top notch. The seasoning behind everything we ordered, including the praline cashew cake, delivered amazing flavors. Please make sure to leave room for dessert! Service was solid, not great, as the restaurant filled up after we arrived. That said, we were able to order drinks and food in a timely manner.

Have to update to old review because their food is absolutely heavenly this time when I tried Every time I try food outside, I tend to dissect it mentally to get to know the ingredients so that I can recreate it, but the dishes here are sooo unique (in a good way) that i couldn't figure out what all they had put. I love their Tandoori artichoke. And this time I tried their stuffed kulcha and it was amazing as well. Their drinks are interesting but can be a hit or a miss

When Jimi Hendrix did a cover version of Bob Dylan's 'All
When Jimi Hendrix did a cover version of Bob Dylan's 'All Along the Watchtower' he took a good thing and made it better. Creativity and reinterpretation are aspirations worth supporting but if the new version isn't better than the original, yet costs much more, it doesn't make any sense. My friend and I ordered vegetarian dishes and while they were pretty tasty they weren't great. Worse, they were so loaded with cream, butter or ghee that they felt like the easy route to good taste rather than the skilled route, besides being pretty unhealthy. Both my friend and I had upset stomachs at the end of the meal. If you're looking for overpriced fusion frou frou, go for it. This is not the place for great Indian vegetarian food though. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was okay.

The quality of the food met the price range, tasty and worth it. What gave this restaurant a 2 star was the service, although the hostess was great! Our server Richardson forgot about our party of 6 and I personally had to go ask for more cocktails, a desert menu, and the check. Also, it was my friends birthday. We were constantly waiting for a period of 20-30 minutes to be checked in on. Respectfully food was good, ambiance okay, service... well I wouldn't go back again.

Came to ROOH for dinner with my bf last Saturday and we really enjoyed the food, the drinks and ambience here. We would recommend getting indoor seating if you can since it is much nice than the outdoor area.FOOD 5/5This place is Indian Fusion so the food is not very authentic. However, all the dishes we ordered are very flavorful and we enjoy all of them. The Chili Cheese Kulcha and Dahi Puri are both creamy with the nice kick of curry. The Tandoori Octopus was not as soft and juicy as we expected but it was very well seasoned. The Lamb Pepper Fry was also very good - since we were not very hungry, the portion was perfect but normally I would expect bigger portion for a large dish. Also we for dessert we got the coconut gelato (Elaneer Payasam) and Thani ice cream. The coconut gelato was good - even though not that impressive but the Thani ice cream is a MUST TRY!!DRINK 5/5 ( would give a 6 if I can)Looks like Rooh update their drink menu recently since I could not find the drinks when checking Yelp. But the drinks all looked AMAZING and we both had hard time making our selections. I ended ordered the Chennai Shikanji and my bf ordered the Khiladi Kumar which we really enjoyed our own selection. Chennai Shikanji was citrusy and aromatic with a nice kick of curry powder. I was skeptical when I see curry powder as part of the drink but I could really taste it and it goes really well with the drink. Khiladi Kumar was a strong drink and more on a bitter side - which was great for those who enjoy strong and bitter drinkss. They also have popcorn to eat with the drink which I think was a pretty fun combination. All the other drinks seemed very interesting - we definitely come back to try different drinks next time!!
😍
This is the best Indian restaurant in San Francisco
This is the best Indian restaurant in San Francisco according to all my Indian friends. Rooh is a modern, Michelin-recommended Indian restaurant in the SoMA district of San Francisco. We went for SF restaurant week and had the restaurant week $75 prix fixe menu. Everything was incredible, from the instagrammable cocktails to the vibrant interior and flavorful, creative dishes. They are vegetarian-friendly as well. You can't go wrong with anything you order!
🤮
It's a joke they think they are premium.
The service was bad, food bland, super overpriced and you can do better anywhere in the city.Skip this
🙂
My husband took me to this place for my Birthday last night.
Totally loved the vibe inside the restaurant. We got there around 5:30ish and it was not very crowded. The hostess and the staffs were super nice and accommodating. We tried few small plates and shared an entree. Dahi puri: 5/5, this blew my mind. It was full of flavor. I will come over for it next time. Lamb Keema: 5/5, very flavorful and didn't have strong overpowering smell of lamb. We both loved it.Chili kulcha: 3/5, it was good but you would get this flavor on any other restaurantsCauliflower Koliwada: 4/5, loved the sauce and flavor. Tandoori Monkfish Malabar: 2.5 /5, This was very average. It had some spice in the top but it didn't have any flavor inside. We were very disappointed by this entree. Chicken Ghee roast: 4/5, This was another dish that was full of flavorful and spices. I will definitely return for the small plates, drinks and vibe. For the entrees, I felt it is overpriced. Parking is not bad in the area. We have tried most of the new modern Indian restaurants that are Michelin recommended in the Bay, compared to other places ROOH is okay. I will give it 4/5 for the ambience, staff and small plates!
😍
Excellent service and food! Loved it! It was totally
Excellent service and food! Loved it! It was totally different Indian food I experienced. We will come again. Recommended to everyone just check the prices before your reservation. We didn't and we end up paying $1000 for 4 people lots of drinks also but it was worth every penny
Everything is so flavorful and balanced. The butter chicken was luxurious and creamy. Dahi Puri are like little yogurt clouds of deliciousness. Cauliflower Koliwada was a highlight; I highly recommend and if I could bathe in the peanut chutney I would. The chutney sampler was nice but I wouldn't order with only two people.
🙂
Dined here for a dinner date last night.
The ambiance was nice, the food was pretty good! I liked their seasonal lychee cocktail. The pork belly sauce had a very unique taste to it and it was a little too gamy for my taste. The shrimp was so flavorful and delicious! Butter chicken was good, too. They're on open table so it is easy to make a reservation too. If you want indoor dining make sure to specify bc the indoor gets booked up fast.

My girlfriends and I came here to celebrate a special
My girlfriends and I came here to celebrate a special occasion and we had an amazing experience. We tried a number of different dishes from the menu and split them so we could try as many items as possible. Dahi Puri - 5/5Lamb Keema - 5/5Pomegranate and Aam Papad Grazed Pork Belly - 4.75/5Tandoori Octopus - 4/5Tandoori Artichoke - 4/5Paneer Pinwheel - 5/5Garlic Naan - 4/5Tres Leches - 5/5The lamb keema, paneer pinwheels and tres leches were my top 3 dishes! They had an assortment of unique Indian inspired drinks as well which we all enjoyed. There's even a tasting wheel of options on the menu to help you choose which drink would be best for you.The inside is modern, sleek and has a beautiful mural of an Indian woman. It's absolutely stunning. The service was impeccable and staff were all so friendly. Now it is an upscale Indian restaurant so go in knowing it won't be cheap. Overall, totally recommend this place for a nice occassion!

Disappointed - One word can summarize my visit to this location. Drinks/Cocktails were really BADOVERPRICED. NOT Recommended. Google Indian food and you will find 50+ places in couple of miles. Go somewhere else to get better food and save money

Delicious spicy cocktails.
Great indian food. Jackfruit tacos are also amazing. Try to get reservations because the place can get crowded. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Convenient location close to FiDi.

Loved this place a different twist to Indian food.
The hostess and the staff is super nice and accommodating. I was asked to move tables in the middle of dinner to accommodate a larger party. Which was rather Usual request and have never experienced that but I gladly obliged since she was nice about it and it was busy place . The jack fruit tacos are amazing little spice to it loved it . The artichoke salan was good the sauce was a little too creamy and heavy for me but the taste level was amazing. Saffron rice was cooked so well. Cheese kulcha was bomb a must try like the tacos. The texture of the naan was soft and light with the cheese definitely a must try. Phirni Mousse Cashew Cake was delicious my favorite. A new twist to Indian food !!!

I went to this place with so much excitement after hearing
I went to this place with so much excitement after hearing good things about it. First of all, they changed their menu and replaced some of the very good items they used to serve in main course and dessert. You would expect great taste from such a fancy place, but sadly their food only excelled in presentation. Jackfruit tacos was the only thing I liked from my order. Pinwheel paneer, cauliflower koliwada and cheese kulcha were not worth the bucks. Their garlic naan didn't have a tandoori taste which it is known for, and honestly I have had way better garlic naan at other Indian places in Bay Area. Our cocktail, Mumbai cooler was okay. We skipped the dessert thinking it might be equally disappointing. The ambience was nice but a bit more dim lighting than one might want. I saw few tables close to ours using mobile torch for looking at menu.Overall, I was not happy by the experience. Won't return to this place.

Came here for a work dinner as a party of 6 and had a great time! They require you to make a deposit for reservations but the charge is refunded once your party is seated. The interior decor is very elegant and nice.We decided to ball out and order a family style tasting menu (Gourmand Menu) which comes out to $125 pp. For starters, we tried the Dahi Puri, Masala Jackfruit Taco, Lamb Kee Hyderabadi, Tandoori Octopus. All of them were so delicious; the highlights for me were definitely the Dahi Puri and Lamb. You eat the lamb with butter pao (bread) which so very yummy (gotta love buttered carbs right?)Also shout out to the Chili Cheese Kulcha which was a pre-starter dish but so so yummy. For large plates, we tried the Paneer Pinwheel, Butter Chicken, Beef Short Rib and Vegetable and Fava Dumpling. My favorite was the butter chicken, but again, everything was delicious. The large plates come with rice and butter naan. For desserts, we tried the Cashew Praline Cake and toasted Rice Tres Leches. As someone who doesn't care for caramel, I did not really like the latter. The cashew cake was delicious though, it tasted like a crispy brownie! The cake came with thaindai ice cream on the side which was not my favourite. Our table tried a variety of cocktails - their cocktail menu is so fun! I got to try the Mumbai Cooler and Himalaya Paloma, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. I preferred the Mumbai Cooler a tiny bit more. One of my coworkers ordered the Khiladi Kumar during one round - the presentation is so cute because it comes with a side of popcorn clipped on the side of the drink. The drink itself he said was pretty strong though lol.

I booked my reservations 2 weeks ahead, got confirmation
I booked my reservations 2 weeks ahead, got confirmation and they canceled in the last minute! I made hotel reservation just to taste their food but the good thing was, they were able to book it again same day and same time. The receptionist were able to have me seated in a good spot right away. I ordered my Mumbai cocktail which by the way, delish!!! and ordered a couple of appetizers. While in the middle of tasting their appetizers, the receptionist approached me and apologized that he did a mistake giving me that seat that it was reserved for part y of 8, the row that I was seated. I said "no worries" and he transferred me to different area of the restaurant which was not bad, I was there to taste their food, but it could have been nice if they were organized and know what they were doing. I love how they presented their food, very modern and it creates a sense of eagerness to taste it! I ordered chickpea curry, tandoori roti and their traditional butter chicken. The latter was too sweet and chickpea was too bland. Although their Dahi puri and chicken ghee roast was just okay. I could have ordered more and tasted some of their dishes but I was just disappointed with everything.
I came with a group of 9 therefore we were able to try a lot of dishes. My favorites were the lamb shank, though a little salty, and the butter chicken. I think the dishes should automatically come with rice, we constantly were asking for more!
🤢
Don’t go on the weekend
We had a dinner reservation for 7pm on a Friday night. We were not seated until 7:30. Our drink order was not taken until 8pm. The manager came over to apologize but it wasn’t really an apology. He said that they overbook even though they are short of staff. He took our drink order (would have been nice if he had also comped the drinks). Once they finally took our food order and the food was served the meal was very good. The food deserves a higher rating. Overall we spent 2 1/2 hours at Rooh for 2 courses. Although the food was very good I would not return here on a busy weekend but may try it during the week when it may not be as crowded. In the meantime I think they should rethink their reservation policy and not take more than they can handle.
😍
Best Indian food in the Bay Area.
I hope they add some new dishes to the menu soon but it's pretty great nonetheless. The appetizers are outstanding, pretty much every single one is worth trying. The ambience is great, waiters are super friendly and the flavors are world class. Only thing I can't stand-- the super loud music!!
🙂
Came here to celebrate a friends birthday and truly enjoyed
Came here to celebrate a friends birthday and truly enjoyed the food. As someone who grew up eating Indian food every day impressing me with Indian cuisine is quite difficult. Everything was so creamy and pretty authentic to the taste and we loved the different take on our daily meals. My favorites include The tequila-based drink as well as the spicy paneer kulcha.
