Bad Experience
Went for breakfast, grabbed a number, and waited for the call. I noticed that my number was skipped (I grabbed 497, number skipped to 590s). I went up to the counter to ask, and one of the workers yelled at me, letting me know that the number was called "hundreds of people ago." I asked how that was the case since I was paying attention, and noticed that they had skipped. Worker became even more rude and irate--I even apologized if I was rude and "a jerk," (I personally don't think I was), and she said "but you are." At the end of it, when the workers sorted the numbers out, the numbers reverted back, and customers with numbers 498 and onward had their orders taken. Really awful service and experience.

We were on the hunt for the perfect bagel whilst visiting NYC and wanted to visit Russ & Daughter for bagel, cream cheese & lox. It was a little disappointing that the cafe on Manhattan was shut as we ventured out that way first and took a very expensive taxi ride to Brooklyn. However, the bagels and service were fab. Delicious pickles and good coffee too.
Be the first to ReplyRude manager (Justine) and staff
After spending $250 on food to go - I asked for napkins for my kids. An employee gave me two napkins in which I explained I had children- exasperated, she told me I could go to the bathroom for more. I told her I had bought food only moments ago and she went to Justine her manager (for verification I suppose) who gave me more napkins but informed me that they weren't a restaurant - also in a rude tone. Justine also threw in that they were risking their lives during the pandemic to feed my family. After being mocked and jeered at, I walked out and my white wife went in to figure out what was up. Well, somehow Justine gave HER an apology for the incident involving ME. She apologized to the person who she didn't treat poorly bc she then believed that I, a black woman, actually patronized R&D regularly? Right. I've never been treated like that by anyone there before and generally love the staff but today left me completely disgusted.
Russ & Daughter's I WOULD LIKE A RESPONSE. We're all stretched thin; it's a pandemic. But to be treated callously in the name of the pandemic, napkins?! (or whatever else) is unacceptable.
Great Bagels - don't miss it if you're this part of Brooklyn
My wife and I walked here from DUMBO - we almost gave up as it didn't look like a neighbourhood where we would find a bagel place - not that it's a bad neighbourhood, just mostly office buildings. However, we did find it, and it was well worth it. We had the "NOWR Classic Bagels with The Works" - they are outstanding, and just watching the lady make them was worth the trip. Russ & Daughters base of operation is actually in the building, and the "storefront" is actually in the lobby of the building. Whilst this location is likely best for people living or working nearby in Brooklyn, if you're in Manhattan, a great way to visit this location is to take the Astoria Ferry which you can catch at at 34th Street or Wall Street/Pier 11, and stops at the Brooklyn Navy Yard's Dock 72 just a few minutes walk from the building.
Be the first to ReplyBetter than I hoped!!
My family are huge fans of the Orchard Street location of Russ and Daughters and stop in every time we visit from Montreal. We were in Brooklyn to see the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum and decided to try this new location for Sunday brunch. We had a ball. A very easy line up awaited us. The venue is great for kids to run around in while we waited. The menu was chock full of the usual outstanding choices. The glass windows on the bakery side are great for "window shopping" all the yummy treats on offer. We just love watching the staff slice the fish fresh before they make your bagel sandwich. We had a ball and we took home lots of goodies. This place is a combo of the restaurant and the take out counter. Literally the best of both worlds! And of course as with any Russ and Daughters location we had a celebrity sighting!! Loved this new location.......we will be back!!

Located in Building 77 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard it can be accessed via Flushing Street.
This is mainly carry out but there are plenty of tables available close by to sit and eat.
One can ge a variety of Lox, cream cheeses, smoked fish, types of herring, etc. There is also a bakery present for fresh bagels, challah, babka, cookies. etc.,
