Semolina Restaurant Red Bank Reviews from The Last Year

Without overstating things I can tell you that Semolina's spicy vodka sauce makes me want to leave my wife and move to Italy in search of true love.
Way overpriced for what it is.
I was hard pressed to find any lobster in my lobster dish Never again Loud and noisy Tables too close How is this place staying in business

We have eaten here a bunch of times and previously I would have said this place is a solid 4-4.5 stars but something was different on our last visit. We had one of the regular servers who is usually really good but they continuously made "jokes" that were condescending and off putting to the women at our table. Feeling so rushed to order, we even got a "60-second shot clock." The restaurant now almost forces you to finish in 90-minutes NO MATTER WHAT! Entrees were served before we finished our appetizers and they walked by trying to clear the table 3 times when we were still picking and chatting amongst ourselves. It just really kills the experience, and when we left there were 2 people waiting... it's not like we were taking up someone's table. I felt like I broke the law staying for 1hr 45 minutes vs the 90 minute mandate. Guys, we left that behind with Covid, years ago, or at least EVERY other restaurant did, just not here. We ordered the burrata, the ruvolo, scallops, pork chop, tagliatelle and short rib. The pork chop is always good, no complaints. My wife enjoyed the tagliatelle as well. But everything else was average in our opinion. The burrata just didn't work, none of the 4 of us cared for it and it's cheese, hard to mess up. The scallops definitely needed to be seared more, the $45 short rib is a piece of pot roast... and the ruvolo pasta was not great although a neat concept. $278 for 4 people no alcohol, it needs to be better at that price point. Not sure what has changed but we won't be rushing back any time soon, which honestly is a bit disappointing because we have always spoken highly of this place, but can't anymore. And check the recent reviews on google, many, many people saying the same things... you'd think they would listen to their customers at some point. What worked before won't always work moving forward...
Small but perfectly formed!
Small but perfectly formed farm to table restaurant Red Bank. The pork chop on the mains is incredible. And service impeccable. It gets busy at the weekend and we had to wait to be seated. But this is par for the course when the food and vibe is so good. You can do BYO which works well. Great choice for friends, family or just a nice dinner for 2. Recommended.

Semolina has always provided delicious food and efficient service. Pasta dishes are fantastic and creative.
I heard absolutely wonderful things about Semolina.
..so I went with my husband. It was OK. I'm Italian and I love Italian food, I just didn't think it was worth all the hype; it was good, just not worthy of what I had heard about it. And where I don't understand their "absolute" policy of not seating people until the whole party arrives, it's their policy, so if you don't like it, don't go.
We were very excited to eat here.
However we were disappointed with the food, service and management. The pasta was under cooked, dry and hard. Waitress asked how the food was, told her the pasta was under cook. She got offended and wouldn't come back to our table. We asked for the food to be wrapped up (figuring I could cook it more myself) and they threw it out because "we didn't like it". Manager came to our table and told us our server was having a hard time and was upset, really didn't understand that. We were very nice about the food and didn't let it ruin our night. Manger finally took the pasta off the bill however, it was too late to make the experience better. Looking for fresh pasta this NOT the place to go!
Amazing food good service best in the warm months as farm

WARNING: if you want to be treated poorly by the owner and scammed out of $150 this is the place to be. My daughter and her boyfriend purchased a gift card as a Xmas Gift for his parents. They went and dined there on 1/3 to celebrate his mom's bday only to be told the card had been previously redeemed the day after Xmas. Impossible. It was the first time they'd ever been there and they had the card in there possession the entire time. So who redeemed it? Clearly an error on the restaurant's side and when it was brought to the owners attention before he hung up on my daughter who called to try to resolve the problem he was rude and nasty. Really? $150? I owned a restaurant in Red Bank previously and would never treat a customer this way. Shame on them. Hope they enjoy the publicity and the light that shines on who they really are.
This place is an absolute shame.
My family and I once loved to support this local business up until this holiday season, we will NEVER EVER EVER be returning. My boyfriend and I purchased his parents a gift card for Christmas on December 21st. On his step mother's BIRTHDAY, today, January 3rd, they went to redeem this gift card after a beautiful birthday dinner. We got a call that the gift card was "redeemed right away" and had "zero dollars on it." CLEARLY one of the hostesses messed up the gift card exchange and handed us an empty gift card. We spent $150 and have proof on our credit statement. The owner is arrogant, rude and handled the situation POORLY as well as his "manager." Both of our families owned restaurants and we FULLY are aware of what occurred here and that this was a complete mistake on the restaurants behalf. THERE IS NO WAY WE REDEEMED A GIFT CARD THAT WAS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT. They had ZERO proof, he said it was "redeemed the day after christmas" which was complete BS. Impossible. They not only ruined a birthday dinner but scammed us out of $150. If he had ANY care or consideration for his customers he would have corrected this issue and seen his 16 year old hostess made and error. Absolutely despicable. Not to mention, we got a report back that the dinner was "sub par." Got disrespected by the owner, a birthday dinner RUINED and $150 taken from us. DO NOT DINE HERE and DEFINITELY do not purchase a gift card for your loved one here.
The food was delicious, and beautifully presented.
Ingredients were fresh. Service was lovely.
Fantastic food, local farms, prepared beautifully and served by pro/pleasant staff. Small space, BYOB, get reservations!
Arrive on time w full party to be seated…dictated by small space. Staff is professional, courteous and informed (ask about the menu and they’ll know). The farm to table menu is genuine…they list the local farms and providers. Staff can give you every provider, preparation and hint. Be sure to BYOB, especially for the super pork chop (one of the only regular menu items). Beef cheek special and porcini pappardelle were also delicious. Of course the apps were equally great. Never felt rushed and had a very enjoyable evening. Put Semolina on your restaurant bucket list!!!
Dinner eat at Semolina
Dinner was delicious but after an hour and a half we were told to leave. Didn’t get to finish my glass of wine - they were cleaning up the table. Will never go back!
Horrific Treatment- Avoid Semolina
Reservation was for 4 people. One member was running late due to a dr appt in NYC. She texted us her order as to not hold up the dinner, since we had a show to make in Red Bank. Manager would not seat us unless all 4 members were there, we explained we had a show to make and we were planning on ordering for all 4 people. Manager said no, so we said we are now 3 and to please seat us (4 top table). When our friend arrived 30 minutes later, her appetizer was on the table waiting for her but was told, “you were late, so you can not eat!!” They proceeded to refuse her a setting, napkin etc and acted as if she were not part of the table. Being a restaurant owner and also all 4 of us in the service industry, we were shocked and horrified by what we were experiencing. It ruined the celebratory night and regardless if the food was good or not, you NEVER treat a paying customer as they did. Rules are one thing, common sense and decency is another. Avoid this restaurant, many other in Red Bank just as good!
