Very good but have to show my bias in that sister restaurant Tane in Honolulu near where I live is a nicer setting, better service and food even seemed better presented and tasting.The grind to get a reservation needs to be fixed, there is only so many times one will race for a reservation before other places start being more attractive.This SF location felt very cramped and it did not help that our group was near the door which seems to want to stick open and chill everybody down. Service was OK which for a place of this reputation is a concern. Rolls were good but , could be jet lag seemed a tad smaller than at Tane. Other dishes were OK, nothing to be overly excited about.Side note is the couple next to us (like a foot away) had their lap dog with them, and while a strong animal lover do not think any stranger's dog should sharing a table with you. Overall a unique and good dining experience other than the cold back and just OK service. And if you are used to amazing desserts like offered at Tane, prepare for disappointment as this one does not offer any.

I'll preface this review by disclosing that I'm not vegan, but I did genuinely enjoy my visit to Shizen! I brought my vegan roommate here to celebrate a special occasion and we both left satisfied. The shizen shiitake was my favorite dish--such wonderful umami flavor--but the hidden agenda was also delicious and the surprise ending was so fun! We also got a spicy tofuna (my roommates favorite), shiitake nigiri, and split a bottle of sake. All that came to just over $50 per person, certainly pricey but not that much more than non-vegan sushi restaurants in the city. Great for a special occasion, though be prepared to feel rushed through the meal-- their reservations have strict timelines.

The highlight was the Prime Suspect (eggplant was SO good, we got two of them). The Missing Piece also had a super interesting burst of flavor from the pickled tomato on top. We were disappointed by the Secret Weapon, which was also a bit too spicy. Definitely the best part of the restaurant. Even if you aren't vegan, you'll love everything here. We got the Kaarage, Gyoza, Eggplant Nigiri, Bean Curd Nigiri, Prime Suspect roll, and Secret Weapon roll. Our favorites were the Kaarage, Eggplant Nigiri, and Secret Weapon roll, but honestly, everything was exquisite. I'd definitely choose any of these options if you're feeling a bit overwhelmed by the menu!The drinks are so yummy! The Kinsangria is so smooth and tastes like a sweet juice. The Margarita tastes a little stronger, and was delicious as well. Also, I'd try to look at the menu and Yelp images beforehand for this restaurant and have at least an idea of what you want. Love, love, love! Shizen is such a good vegan sushi spot that makes you almost forget there is no fish! It is always a full house and understandably so. The rolls were inventive and bursted with flavor.We had a party of five but since the limit was four, we had to make separate reservations. When we got there, they were gracious enough to still seat us together!Food was great! Service was amazing! And the ambiance was the icing on the cake!

Hard indeed to get a table at this place! But I've managed to visit twice, once walking in and once by reservation. Enjoyed every bite of food. Such a large collection of vegan sushi at a single restaurant I've only found in New York.The space is modern but warm. A good place to come for a small party celebration. I have never been to Japan and I cannot speak to whether traditional sushi elements are used here.The dishes were all beautifully presented and what excited me was all the textures and flavors I got to experience. In spite of being vegetarian I love visiting Japanese restaurants and I often find 2-3 sushi rolls I can enjoy and the most exciting typically being some sort of tempura asparagus roll with spicy mayo. I have managed to find very few traditional sushi restaurant with separate vegetarian menus in that states that wowed me, and I did find one exclusively vegan sushi place in NY but while I did enjoy it - shizen knocks that one out of the park. The shizen menu includes vegetables that are prepared a variety of ways including pickled, fermented, fried, and smoked. I would recommend this restaurant to all vegetarian and vegan friends that live or visit SF who should make the effort to visit this place and any omnivore friends in SF who have the patience to figure out how to get a table. Can't wait to visit again!

This place is at the top of favorite vegan restaurants list! If you've never tried vegan sushi and are suspicious to try, you should go to Shizen. It'll change your perspective on vegan sushi! Be sure to try all the speciality rolls! Boddy and Soul is our all time favorite speciality roll. We always get it everytime we're here. The gyozas, vegan tempura are some of our favorite appetizers. We love their cocktails too. I'm not a big fan of sake, but I like the sparkling sake they offer(you can only get a 750ml bottle, they won't offer it by the glass). We also have tasted their lychee martini and loved it! I'm not sure if that is still a cocktail on the menu. I love to end my meal with some hot mint herbal tea. So aromatic and fresh! I can't stop raving about this place, but it'll always be my go to restaurant for special occasions and on days I crave some really good sushi.

Wifey and I have been coming here for years - even before we lived in SF it's been one of those places we'd always make time for when visiting. I can never remember the name of my favorite specialty roll here, but you really can't go wrong with any option on the menu. Wonderful spot for a date or any celebratory night out. Very hidden even when searching for it on the street, but hands down the best vegan sushi on this planet. Im only vegetarian, and yet whenever I try to have sushi my rolls are rice and some raw veggies. Not appetizing, filling or anything special. This place takes it a step further, fully vegan, and has AMAZING flavors. Some of the most flavorful things i've ever eaten have been from here. Anytime we are in SF we know we need to stop here. My boyfriend is very much a full meat eater and was extremely skeptical. Yet he loved it- even admitting afterwards how great he felt and bringing it up in later conversations. This spot is amazing for anyone no matter your preferences. The inside is thin and narrow, to be expected for an SF building. Yet they designed the inside and ceiling of the restaurant so it looks beautiful. A little pricy, but a must try.

Shizen is as good as people say it is and is worth visiting if you are or are not vegan. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time as they fill up fast. The food was very fresh and flavorful and let the Japanese flavors shine. For starters we got the potstickers (decent but not terribly notable) and the mixed vegetable tempura. The tempura was a good portion and had a good variety of veggies. For the rolls I'd recommend doing a few of the basic ones and a few of the specialties. The basic rolls are a great value at $8 per roll and will help save a little money while filling you up. The specialty rolls are of course what they are known for and had amazing flavors. The menu descriptions are accurate and the staff were friendly and willing to help you narrow down what you might like. Get ready for a fun evening and I promise you won't miss the fish!

There's a wide variety of sushi options, each with their own unique flavors and spices. Most other sushi places I go to only offer very basic vegetarian/vegan options, but Shizen went above and beyond with their selection. I genuinely didn't realize how flavorful sushi could taste! Also, there's this cool specialty roll which is a game of roulette. Would recommend trying that if you come here w a group of people!Overall, highly recommend this place. It's amazing!

They are a sushi restaurant. Don't mess with the curry and other stuff. Waitstaff were nice, but firmly urging us out by the end - reservations seem like timed seatings. Also, book a few days in advance to get a rez, maybe a full week in advance if you want a 7p prime dinner slot. I don't think you can go wrong with any of their sushi. It looks amazing and tastes amazing, and the mix of textures are also wonderful. We got the open invitation (highly recommend) and secret weapon. Both tasty, but I liked the open invitation better. Nearby, another table got the candlestick, which actually came out flaming. Definitely something I'd like to try next time!The spicy pineapple non-alcoholic drink was delicious too. The Lily blossom curry was a big disappointment. The curry itself wasn't borderline bland, and I have no idea where the lily was incorporated - the waitstaff said it was "probably" blended into the curry. If so, it didn't add anything at all. The "katsu" Part was pretty good, crisped decently. This could have been most of a meal by itself, and at $11 is quite affordable. But I don't recommend it at all. The spicy garlic ramen was decent: broth was good, noodles were good, nothing special, BUT the Tofu chashu it came with was pretty unique. They did a good job capturing the smoky flavor. Note - My rating system for upscale restaurants is different than "normal" restaurants; if I'm paying $50 for one portion dinner, I expect everything to be good (instead of usual rating of 5 stars for 1 standout item).

He says he's excited to go back and I don't think he's ever said that about a vegan place before. Our favorites were the: Eggplant nigiriHidden AgendaSurprise EndingCandlestickOpen InvitationThe only thing we both thought was "meh" was the gyoza. The pineapple sake cocktail wasn't my thing either, too watered down. Still, you can't go wrong with the sushi here!We went on Sundays at 4:30 both times and were able to find free street parking within a few blocks both times with a little luck and patience. I'm so glad this place now accepts reservations because we could never get in before, and now we've been here twice.

Delicious vegan sushi! I'd say its the best vegan sushi I've ever had, but honestly, it's the only vegan sushi I've ever had lol! I came with 3 other friends and we made a reservation a few weeks earlier. We got super lucky with parking and found a spot steps away from the front door. We waited outside for about 10 minutes before getting seated. Open Invitation - this roll was super yummy and comes with a fried lotus root on top. It's a cute roll and very flavorful, with pumpkin inside! My friends weren't sure it would be good, but luckily we all enjoyed it.Hidden Agenda - this was probably everyone's favorite roll. It's crunchy and saucy and yummy. Highly recommend everyone to order this one! Surprise Ending - surprise ending was probably my least favorite roll. The gimmick is that one of the pieces is super spicy so it's kind of a game to play between your friends. I love beets, but this roll just wasn't that special to me.Karaage - the karaage is DELICIOUS. It definitely tastes like a soy chicken, but it's so flavorful and it comes with a delicious sriracha mayo dipping sauce. The karaage pieces were super tiny (5 pieces) and sat on a bed of arugula.Ramen - We ordered one bowl of ramen to share because it was a super chilly evening and we wanted some soup. I personally thought the ramen wasn't that special (especially because SF has so many amazing ramen places already). But for vegan ramen, it wasn't bad! We wanted to order the Candlestick roll (because it comes with a giant flame on the plate and we thought it looked cool) so we added the order in during last call. But sadly, our waitress forgot to put the order in. She was super apologetic, but we were still disappointed we didn't get to try it.

Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?

Best Answer It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

Best Answer Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.

Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?

Best Answer Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

What happens if my bid expires unanswered?

Best Answer Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
