Hidden gem at Laurel Heights
Excellent restaurant with great menu, impressive wine list, and great staff. The reason to visit was 90th and 85th birthdays, and the place was the best. Party room enough for 15 people with glass wall makes you comfortable, giving you your own space, and also feeling that it's quite big at the same time. Thanks to the chef, Julio Mis, and restaurant crew, the menu is well thought, balanced, and all dishes are well presented. Fried olives is a great appetizer, crunchy outside and soft inside, and mixed flavors. Pasta we ordered, certainly was one of the best I ate. Pappardelle with pulled duck and porcini mushrooms was rich, full of duck flavor (similar to duck confit) and well pronounced taste of porcini, served with young peas which added slightly crunchy texture and fresh aftertaste. Shirt ribs cooked to perfection, dark brown and juicy, easily pulled with a fork, tender and well structured at the same time, served on the bed of slightly cooked "crumbs" of cauliflower, and meat jus. Per guests who ordered stillhead trout, fish was tender, with well pronounced flavor, served with thick sauce and green and yellow string beans which is perfect side. Orange panna cotta is also great choice as a dessert, smooth and flavorful. Thank you very much for excellent time we spent, and special thanks to waiters team who helped us during our dinner
Be the first to ReplyThe Best Italian Restaurant in the Bay Area!
Return visit to Sociale and it was a wonderful experience as before. This time we sat inside which was just as nice as their beautiful patio equally intimate. The signature fried olives are a novel and great way to settle in. The seared scallops were prepared perfectly with an interesting pea puree which complemented rather than overwhelmed and the Hiramasa crudo was so fresh and flavorful. Then we shared the wild mushroom risotto and cavatelli Bolognese which was out of this world. Each of these courses was paired by World Class Som, Jim Kennedy. His knowledge of wine is so impressive as he guided us through the menu and wine list. We have never experienced a meal that was so expertly paired! And we were so lucky we saved room for the absolute best veal chop ever. We also shared this huge chop which again exceeds expectations. And be sure to leave room for the olive oil cake and blood orange panna cotta. David and his crew run a first class operation which is definitely our favorite Italian in the Bay Area!

Spectacular meal here last night. Enjoyed sitting outside in the patio under heaters and everything was perfect. Our waiter Mathew made some incredible recommendations. We loved the pastas. Each was fresh and served aldente. The duck pasta with truffle oil and the fennel sausage with green peppers pasta were amazing. The fried green olives are a real innovative treat and the secondis are not to be missed. We actually split the pork chop which was perfectly cooked .. moist and juicy and fantastic. Each of our courses was paired by Jim our incredibly knowledgeable Som. He went over and above explaining each wine and why he selected. Started with a wonderful proseco right through to the madera at the end with the chocolate olive cake. We only wish we had more room to try the game hen and other pastas. This is what dining is all about!

You will love the atmosphere. It is comfortable, upscale with inside and out dining. Lots of heaters for cool evenings. Food is very good, served professionally with the sommelier Josh offering wine suggestions that meet your taste and budget. I had Italian fish stew prepared perfectly with a light tomato sauce that did not over power. My wife enjoyed the pasta cooked al dente.

Carrot soup for starter a bit bland. Pasta main was tasty and pasta perfectly cooked. Service was good and they were keen to help guide on wine.

My dear girlfriend treated me to her go to weekly lunch spot at Sociale. From the moment we walked in all safety precautions were taken in a very polite manner. David the owner greeted us and waited to bring us to our seats until it was completely ready as to not invade anyone else’s personal staff. The food was excellent. Maybe one of the best Caesar salads I have had at a restaurant. The pasta and risotto were excellent and not overcooked. Our server Angelo and busser Sabastian were very courteous and patient. Stephanie the manager checked on us as we were wrapping up our meal. I will be back for sure. It’s a little piece of hidden heaven in Presidio Hgts.

I went to dinner here with good friends who live in San Francisco. They go to Sociale pretty regularly as it’s close to their home. I ordered the beet salad, which was attractive but totally tasteless. As the tuna tartare appetizer interested me more than the meal options, I had that as my main course. It was fresh and plated beautifully but lacked a distinctive taste. I tried my friend’s shellfish stew, and as the sauce was beautifully seasoned, I asked for bread to sop up the flavor. Rather than bread, they serve little biscuits, which seemed to be under baked. Our group of three shared the polenta fries, which were good but I’ve had better elsewhere. This restaurant can be difficult to find as it’s set back from the street in a little courtyard area.

Fantastic restaurant in San Francisco. Spectacular wine list to with their innovative menu. Every detail of the preparation was spot on. Highly recommended in San Francisco and Not a tourist spot..

We loved our dinner here! We dined outside in the small courtyard, which was charming and quite comfortable even on a cool night. The heirloom tomato appetizer was fantastic, and I really enjoyed the corn tortellini. My husband ordered one of the pasta specials, and although it did not sound like something I would like, I tried a taste and thought it was wonderful, too! Considering both food and atmosphere, this was our favorite dinner in San Francisco this trip (easily beating 2 Michelin-starred restaurants), and one we hope to repeat.
Be the first to ReplyAlways my favorite - new menu!
I love this restaurant and have been turning friends and family on to it for years! Every time they take away my duck, they soon bring it back! The fried olives are another old favorite which are the only olives I’ll eat!! But they have a lot of new delicious starters and mains and their wine list is always brilliant! Very nice place in a secluded courtyard with outdoor dining as well as comfortable seating inside, but true to SF, not pretentious! I will always come back!

From the street, you walk down an alleyway and find a patio part of the restaurant. Charming place, italianish ! The menu is limited, but dishes are delicious. Outside, in the patio, the sound level is ok. I did not use the restroom. The wine list is composed of little known wines, poor quality, but proposed at outrageous high prices. More and more restaurants in SF are rising beverages prices to raise profit. That plus forced 20% or more service, plus health care tax, plus, plus, plus.
