Love this place! I’ve eaten here probably about six times now, every time we visit. It’s a classic. It’s a staple. It cooks the best hibachi style food anywhere in the country. The service is impeccable. The atmosphere is perfectly balanced, festive but also respectful, crowded but not too rowdy. The decor is impeccable. The food is impeccable. I would give it five stars — but I have to give it four because I’m always surprised about one big issue. There is no showmanship! There is no drama! And there’s no use of fire!!!! These are jarring departures from what would probably be considered stereotypical American-style hibachi, which is probably (?) why Disney avoids them? in other words, we would love to see some fire. Like that onion volcano on fire! Light some oil on fire! And then clap your knife and flip your spatula a few times, maybe flip some food in the air, maybe throw something at somebody’s face? I’m not saying you have to squirt the PeePee doll at at the kids or spray sake in my mouth in a long thin stream for as long as I can bear it (although I wouldn’t say no), but can you please do something other than just quietly and professionally cook a perfect and delicious meal? Am I spoiled? Am I jaded? Have I been exposed to inauthentic hibachi, and Disney’s version of hibachi is actually culturally appropriate and authentic? I can hardly believe so. I think Disney is just afraid of dealing with the liability of some fire, and they don’t trust chefs to have a consistently awesome level of drama so they tell them to do no drama. But these guys run roller coasters and pay people to dress up as furry animals and hug children. They can handle liability and they can train people to act and be dramatic in appropriate manners. They can handle risk. And so, their hibachi should have some fire and some pizzazz.
