The Acorn Restaurant Vancouver Reviews from The Last Year
The food was very good and left very full.
We did the wine pairing which was interesting to say the least. Service was nice. The space is very small with a cozy vibe. Some tables feel a little too close together but we got lucky and sat at a 4 person table for 2 of us which felt great.

Went to the Acorn for a lunch visit and the food was really good! I wasn't sure about having brunch here but am glad that I did! The only downside was that the waitress accidentally spat while telling us the specials and never replaced the napkin which had the spit. Minor detail though!
Such a cute spot for brunch! Lovely food and presentation.
I started with a tequila Caesar and it was so good! I opted for the mushroom and loved it. The crispy oyster mushrooms were so tasty and I loved the sauces. Pricier than expected ($23) but the flavors were on point.
Tasting menu
I am not a vegetarian but quite surprised how creative and tasty all the dishes in their tasting menu was. At that pricing, it's worthwhile to try once. The two of us were so full and barely finished all the dishes. The pacing of how fast the food came out was good, and two different dishes of each course came at a time.
I went to the brunch service and got the chef's menu.
The was amazing and the presentation was great as well. The waiters were friendly, and I would highly recommend eating here, you won't regret it.
Disappointed
We have tried chef's menu, and there was nothing special about it. The portions were ridicously small, and we left hungry. Eat something home before going there.
A friend and I visited during Dine Out 2024 to experience
A friend and I visited during Dine Out 2024 to experience the tasting menu. My friend got stuck in transit and was almost 30 minutes late but they did seat me and take my drink order while I waited. They had to start bringing the food out before she arrived because of the way their kitchen operates. A few different servers came by our table throughout the night and everyone was very warm and professional. The timing of each course (after my friend arrived) was right on. Their dine out menu is $65/pp and mostly vegan, with just a few dairy dishes. A very similar all-vegan menu is available at no cost, as is a gluten-free menu . A few dishes had the option to add cheese for a small fee. Our vegan meal was served over 4 courses and included: Sourdough: Hearty toasted sourdough with a side vinaigrette. The vinaigrette was tasteless to me but the bread was amazing on its own. Squash: Shredded squash salad with hazelnuts, cilantro, and dried fruit, with hoisin sauce on the side to mix in. I loved the savoury-sweet combination with a hint of spice and pops of flavour from the swirls of hoisin. My favourite cold dish of the night. Sunchoke: Another nice sweet and savoury dish with crisp sunchoke in a slightly charred dressing, topped with berries. Shiitake: Tender shiitake mushrooms over a rich squash puree. I loved the flavour of the sauce with the subtle seaweed undertone from the kelp. Beet: Beet carpaccio with sauerkraut and fermented horseradish. I love fermented foods so I was a fan of this. Chicory: Braised endive dressed with elderflower, apple, and hazelnut. I liked the cooked endive but the raw elements of this dish just tasted "raw" and plain. This was my least favourite. Tomato: Cavatelli coloured black using leek ash in fermented tomato sauce. The black colour was inspired by squid ink pasta. The pasta was perfectly al dente. Pasta in tomato sauce is by no means an original idea but this was just a little different in subtle ways, and it was definitely my favourite dish of the night. Peach: For dessert, sorbet with spruce tip shortbread crumble. The piney and salty shortbread complimented the peach very well. Not as experimental as the savoury dishes, but still a delicious ending. You can add a wine pairing for each course for $30, We opted out of this because I didn't want to drink (and just don't like wine enough to add $30 to an already expensive meal). I got the nonalcoholic Lavanda Fizz mocktail instead, which was okay but a little weak on the lavender. lAt this price, I expected everything to be sublime, but I thought a few things were a little unpolished (as noted above, and my friend and I both would have liked one more hot dish in the mix). There were a few dishes that did wow me though, and I really enjoyed the experimental concept with the chance to try some uncommon foods. I don't regret shelling out the money once, but I'm undecided if I'd want to return, and if I did, I'd definitely want to order a la carte rather than do the regular $79 tasting menu, or maybe try brunch instead of dinner.
adorable and fancy.
my first experience where as the food arrived it was presented with ingredients and where it was from. incredible. many vegan options. everything was DELICIOUS. their sourdough toast... omg heaven. staff were kind and knowledgeable. great service.

Divine, fully vegetarian eatery with a menu that is very celiac friendly. About 80% of dishes come gluten free without alteration or substitutes (beet dish pictured). A group of 4 of us walked in because we didn't want to commit to the chef's menu and instead shared multiple plates. My personal favourite was the salsify butter dish. The hostess was very kind and got us a table very quickly after we were initially told it would be about an hour's wait at peak dinner time on a Saturday. We got a text to come back to the restaurant after just a few minutes. The service was great, apart from one small slip up of forgetting my drink until after the meal. They were apologetic and hasty in getting another one prepared. We were all blown away from the flavours and keen on returning to try the chef's menu on a special occasion.

So happy to get a reservation here on a Sunday night for the chefs tasting menu while visiting Vancouver. The restaurant checked in a couple days prior to discuss any allergies and/or dietary preferences that our party of 3 might have. Upon arrival, we were welcomed and seated right away. The restaurant space is low-key, semi-casual, and a bit laid back. Excellent vegan food that is served family style between everyone at the table. Each course was beautifully presented and thoroughly explained by the server and while portions seemed reasonable we were fuller than expected when we got up to leave which is not always the case with tasting menus. Being the only true vegetarian in my party, the two others were extremely pleased with this vegan tasting experience and raved about how good each course was. You most certainly will not leave hungry.

I went here for my birthday and ate the 7 course meal, the food was fantastic. As a vegetarian, I am often disappointed with meals in high end restaurants lacking favor and creativity, this was not the case here. All the meals were interesting and delicious. The service was also great. The only downside was the seating set up. The tables were very close together, and it was really hard to hear because of the amount of people in the small space. I think it's worth it anyway, and I'll definitely be back.

I tried their tasting menu and everything was good but it was not filling for some reason - I wish they had a pasta or a main which was more filling - very little cheese as well but I'm going to visit again - service was fantastic and the tastes were spot on
Disappointing experience
The atmosphere of the restaurant is comparable to an uncomfortable village pub. The food for five people was served on two plates, which we then had to share. At the end we felt like we had paid for five and received food for four.
Tasting menu, but so much better than most
Super cuisine, through all the courses. Great urban ambience. The courses were brought out briskly (almost too briskly, at times) but absolutely delicious from start to finish with interesting combinations of flavors and ingredients. This isn't a resto you can linger in. There is the overarching feel of 'eat up, we have someone who needs your table in 20 minutes' which detracts a bit from the experience. But at least the experience you get while there is satisfying.
Disappointed
Not a great dining experience. Restaurant is very small and the tables are very close to one another almost claustrophobic. Restaurant caters to reservations only for the Chef's Menu at $79 a person and walk in guests are left to order a la carte if there is any seating still available for unreserved guests who arrive after restaurant opening. I find this arrangement overly silly and convoluted. I found the portions ridiculously small and really unsatisfying. I was given a gift certificate and was excited to eat here as I am vegan, however, I did not find the food selection particularly healthy or appealing and size appropriate. Service was courteous until I presented my gift certificate whereupon the bill was just thrown on my table without any comment. I experienced the restaurant but will not go back.
Disappointed
Was excited to eat here as my wife is vegetarian and this restaurant supposedly has a Michelin mention Major disappointment! We had the tasting course with wine paring Wines were mediocre at best Food was average Service and execution dreadful We waited as much as 35 minutes between several courses The staff never looked at you and engaged Yes they explained the dishes and wines well but with no passion We will not return
Lovely romantic dinner
Had a really lovely evening. Food was absolutely gorgeous, service was great. Would highly recommend for a romantic evening
Best meal ever?
We did the chef’s tasting menu and my husband and I both agreed this was one of the best meals, if not the best, we have ever had. The variety of flavors and ingredients makes other restaurant menus look boring in comparison. Everything is incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. You have to try their sourdough bread. The worst thing about this restaurant is that it’s located in Vancouver while my husband and I live in the USA.
Excellent meal!
A phenomenal evening! We really were blown away - the tasting menu was generous, interesting, delicious and abundant. Topped off with a great vibe, excellent service and all reasonably priced. Will definitely return and if you’re looking for a delicious meal in Vancouver do consider this as a worthy option.
