We had a reservation for 7:30pm and one of our family members fell ill. We tried several times to call the restaurant to cancel the reservation but they don’t answer at the weekend. We left 2 voicemails explaining the situation and asked them to call back. They called us when we didn’t show up to say that we would be charged a cancellation fee. In the era of COVID we had a choice / either do the right thing and protect the patrons of the restaurant by staying home OR go to the restaurant anyway - not knowing whether some of us or all of us could be sick. We decided to do what, I would hope, all responsible people would do and stay home. We made every effort to let the restaurant know. They charged us anyway. The person I spoke to said that the rest of us could have come in and left the sick person (a child) at home. We had a lovely meal at the Harwood Arms last week and were looking forward to a second visit. However they have proven to be greedy and have no regard for the health of their customers so we will not return and recommend potential customers be aware of their behaviour.
