I enjoyed my first time experience at The Kitchen. It is fun and worth a visit. There was nothing that wowed me from the many courses. Although the dishes looked amazing aesthetically, the taste did not match the beauty of the dish. They are quite generous with seconds on any dish you particularly enjoy, and are extremely accommodating. The space was nice, but felt too crowded with the number of diners present, and the small space dedicated for the kitchen itself. I would say The Kitchen is very good, and deserves its One Michelin Star. It certainly is not Troisgros in France, but few restaurants achieve such a level of excellence, where each dish is meticulously crafted to deliver exquisite flavors, textures, and presentation. Three Michelin stars is on another level, where the cuisine is exceptional, the service is flawless, and the dining experience unique. The chefs at these restaurants have extraordinary culinary skills, innovative techniques, and use the finest ingredients. Last night, for example, the dessert tasted flat, and the coffee took too long to be served. Although my criticism may sound harsh, going out to dinner in these inflationary times has become a very expensive affair. I think it is wonderful that Sacramento has such a restaurant, and it will continue to prosper with or without my patronage. Kudos to the Selland Family for bringing us their family of restaurants, and elevating the palates of Sacramento Diners. The Kitchen is great for a special occasion or one time experience, but you'll find me just as happy, if not happier at Obo, their charming, affordable East Sacramento establishment.

I have no words! What a unique, amazing, and one of a kind experience The Kitchen is. I went with my family last night, and from the beiginning to the end, the dinner was AMAZING. We celebrated my MIL's 75th birthday, and she had the time of her life--(as did we). Our server, Paul, was a fantastic addition to our dinner. He paid attention to every little detail, and we enjoyed his conversation throughout the night. There were a few items I didn't partake in, (the oysters and scallops), but Paul noticed and brought me substitutions THAT WERE SOOOO GOOD....probably the best empanadas I've ever had. He also overheard my SIL talking about truffle, and brought out some of the best truffle fries for us. I think what stood out the most to us was how in sync all of the staff is. All of the servers, managers, and kitchen staff (including Chef Kelly) all made their way to greet and chat to each table in between every course/Act. Everyone was so nice, and personable..and their efforts were not unnoticed. We chose 3 wine pairings and 1 cocktail pairing. Both were fantastic and were excellent additions to the winter 2024 dinner. Prepare to leave stuffed to the brim--because they feed you A LOT here. You can taste as you please, help prepare, and even help serve if you want. The whole experience is highly immersive, and if you want something it's yours. The dinner was a magical foodie lovers paradise, truly spectacular throughout every course. Be prepared to spend a lot, but the experience in itself is so worth it. We can't wait to come back again for another big celebration. Thank you again to all the staff at The Kitchen, your love and passion for food inspired us all!

The main reason we decided to get away to sac was to eat at this place. We never ate at a michelin restaurant before and was unquestionably the best place too. We are overly excited, what a pleasure to be here, best dinner experience ever, lots of fun, all their food was a 10, we ate 110% and everybody made our visit behind exceptional!!!

Let's start by saying that this was the worst experience my husband and I had. The food was okay. Some items on the menu were a start light but if we didn't eat some things we were questioning why without knowing if we had food allergies or offered something else. We were called PIGGIES! And this I didn't take kindly. I suffered from bulimia and anorexia and it took me a long time to love myself. That made me feel uncomfortable and super self-conscious and the head Chef added to that how many calories our meal was worth that night. " If you are still hungry after dinner don't worry little piglets we have more but WOW!!!" The head Chef also greeted his crowd saying yay for a free night without our "Monsters that are thankfully staying home tonight " referring to our children. Idk if his kids are monsters but mine aren't and will never refer to kids in that negative way. We came home very unsatisfied and upset by the night. Me personally crying because of some of the comments. I do understand that we are not sensitive to other people but I didn't expect this from a Michelin star restaurant. We all know that this is not returned so please don't waste your time and money there here go to the other Michelin-star restaurants around Sac
Be the first to ReplyBest dining experience I've had in a long time.
delicious food and great service, waitstaff and sommelier were really nice and helpful. I've been to their first location before and I really loved the small garden area..New location is nice too!
Be the first to ReplyWow! One of the best experiences.
This is just not going out to dinner, it's an adventure from the moment you walk in. Food was beyond amazing and don't worry if you have special dietary needs, they have you covered. The staff is incredible and made the experience very special.

Amazing! Worth every amount spent on the wonderful experience! I was transported to another galaxy through the food & beautiful staff. A must 1x a year or each season a new menu is created. Thank You to everyone who works there, you are magic
Be the first to ReplyWhat a unique experience.
Will definitely be back again. Very interactive and made things interesting.
Be the first to ReplyOverall, a great dining and show experience in Sacramento.
Leave your introversion self at home. You'll have to walk around, interact and meet random people and the Kitchen staff during your 3 hour visit here. It's fun and different from your traditional fine dining experience. And it's essentially all-you-can-eat. Basically, their motto is, we need to get rid of the food, so eat up and enjoy 2nds and 3rds if you have room. You want to learn something new? Then talk with the staff, take pictures and take scrupulous notes. And as for the food and drinks, well, they earned their 1 star for a reason.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience.
Very engaging chef and staff. Love the ideas that you can walk around interacting with the chefs and the repeat of what we like. So much food and all so good, 3 of us had one repeat and it was so great. The cocktail pairing was interesting, something to try at least once. I had the mock tail pairing and it was fun. A lot of wines and liquor that you don't see in other places. It's not your typical quiet and reserved atmosphere, it is fun, energetic ambiance. You can cook next to the chefs and help prepare the food if you want to see how that feels. You need to book 4 months ahead and have some flexibility with your dates because the reservation is gone within minutes. Definitely recommend and will go again, next time will try to get the experience preparing the food.
Be the first to ReplyI do not say this lightly - this was the most unique, fun
I do not say this lightly - this was the most unique, fun dining experience I have ever had. Do not miss the Kitchen! I've been to quite a few other Michelin star restaurants. This is the only one I've walked out of saying "I would absolutely pay to do this again" and honestly I would do it multiple times. That's because it's actually worth the money, or at least more so than any other Michelin star restaurant you've probably ever been to. This is not a stuffy, boring Michelin star spot. This place will have you laughing, up and moving around, interacting with the staff, and even putting on gloves to plate the dishes if you want! The chef when I went was Gio, and his energy and humor are as incredible as his food. One of the sommeliers was Joe, who was so helpful in his recommendations and so fun to talk to that our entire group was trying to scheme how to become friends with him. And of course, this review would be lacking without talking about the food. It's delicious and it's plentiful! You will actually feel like you got the bang for your buck, which is rarely ever the case at restaurants of this caliber. But the real reason you go here isn't just the delicious food - it's the experience. There are no rules, no limits. It's like dining at a generous rich friend's house. You can go into the kitchen, try food that the cooks are prepping, open the fridge and grab ice cream, pop into the cellar full of the highest quality booze, whatever. There is no place like this. Lastly - and maybe most importantly, because by now, you want to go, right? You need to book like 4 months in advance. Literally. Their website will tell you when the next crop of reservations is available, and be sure to mark your calendars to do it on time. This is hard to get into for a reason - it's unlike any other dining experience you'll have.

If you want an experience for a special occasion, this is the place to go! The food was memorable and they easily accommodated my food restrictions - gluten-free and dairy-free. It feels like you're a guest in the chef's house and we got to know the staff well. Unforgettable!
Be the first to ReplyThis is not dinner.
This is an entire evening experience. We've been a few times and have never been disappointed. The staff will bend over backward to make sure you have an incredible dining experience. If there's something that displeases you, be reasonable and let them know. I can write pages on this place but I'll try to keep it brief. Go hungry, you won't leave that way. The portions aren't huge but remember it's an entire evening event and they continue to feed you. If you want seconds or thirds or more, ask for it. Do get up and go walk around the food prep area. The staff loves to entertain and give you samples. You are there to eat so try everything! Their wine and bourbon selection is amazing. Do order the wine pairing if you are a wine drinker. If not, treat yourself to a beautiful cocktail. Do ask for seconds and don't be afraid to do so. The staff is more than happy to bring you what you want. My favorite place to dine. Yes, for us the price tag is a little more, but I look at it as an evening of entertainment. We love it for special occasions and once just because.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a magnificent experience.
Reservations are hard to come by. Building communication with them helped to procure a date. The staff was so completely accommodating. In particular;GioShelbyShaneand Kelly Were spectacular. I can't wait to get back real soon for more amazing and creative food. Could not be more highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyThere really needs to be a six star review for this place .
.I went here on a very special occasion.. Unique, quality and unlimited portions.. Imagine going to the best restaurant and multiple that by 10..The chef's are funny and involved while you eat.You learn about everyone you are eating with so it's like a big humble family. The chef's make may course's through out the evening. You even get a tour of the kitchen.this isn't a meal it's an experience..Check the menu before getting your tickets months in advance as the menu changes. Many appetizers, many main dishes desserts and coffee..This an experience unlike any other..
Be the first to ReplyI went back because last time I ate there chef kelly was
I went back because last time I ate there chef kelly was absent and it wasn't quite the same experience for me. Plus I wasn't a huge fan of the summer menu. This review is for Feb 2, 2023, winter/early spring menu, and finally black truffle was featured (I'm a sucker for truffles, black and white). Food quality was about the same as before, maybe I'm just getting bored after eating here 4 times, I feel like the dishes weren't as exciting and satisfying as before. There wasn't much of creativity (besides a couple things were pretty fun). Highlights of dinner: Really liked the desserts (lemon one, cream puff, and cookie was OMG mind blowing as always. Even the Madeline was soooo good. Wish I could buy some!). Entree was beef cheek with truffle, which was good the first bite but some cut was a little dry. Mushroom soup - I liked the version I had in De 2021 better. Salmon appetizer was great. The seafood platter which I was super excited about, i feel like the sauce was overpoweringly salty and one of them tasted a bit rancid. It could just be my palate being weird there but I don't think I'm dying to go back in a while. Also I ate too much and it got a little uncomfortable. Lol. That's totally my fault-but how can you resist when food is there??? So word of caution - if you have a small appetite or are health conscious, I wouldn't recommend it. It's still worth the experience once in a while imo. Considering it a buffet for fine dining. Also tried cocktail paring - had better drinks before, I wouldn't recommend. It's probably better to do wine paring or just get the drinks you like.

Be the first to ReplyBe careful if you book here, if you have covid and try to
Be careful if you book here, if you have covid and try to cancel or change a reservation they will not honor it and you will be out hundreds of dollars. I tried calling them multiple times before the reservation and nobody answered. If you have covid just come here because they don't check you at the front. Very disappointed that this happened. Two people in my party could not attend because they were covid positive, I asked at the front door if anything can be done and they said it shouldn't be a problem. They told me a manager would come speak to me. The manager came as dessert was served and said there is nothing they could do. I understand the restaurants point because there is limited seating but for them to tell me they would do something about it then come to me after and say oh well you are out $450 was a slap in the face. If they had told me at the beginning I would have called some other friends to take their spot. I was not given that chance because they are greedy and wanted to take my money. Would never recommend this place, if anyone asks I would say I would have had a better experience at McDonald's.

We celebrated my parents 80th Birthday's and this was not our first time at the Kitchen. Amazing food, friendly staff- what more could you ask for.
Be the first to ReplyThe atmosphere, staff, incredible flavors and presentation
The atmosphere, staff, incredible flavors and presentation of the food were beyond my expectations...it was a meal that I will treasure.Sit at the counter, if that option is available, you will see how the foods is delicately crafted by the hive of skilled chefs, sourced locally and cooked perfectly. Subtle flavors, daring combinations ...my pallet was delighted and my eyes intrigued by the colors and craftsmanship of the presentation.Run don't walk if you have been thinking about this experience...well worth it!Thank you Chef and staff!

My party of 8 were all rightly impressed with the food and the service. As advertised the food was very good as it had been in prior times. The service was likewise good. Why the number of stars is due to the surprise that came at the end of the meal - the bill. I could somewhat understand the markup the Sellands place on the alcohol, though taking a beer you can buy at Whole Foods for under $6 and marking it up to $20 plus 22% gratuity and then tax is somewhat outrageous. What ruined our dinner was the $450 (plus 22% tip and tax) charge for corkage. When I made the reservation, the corkage was I believe $35, which already one of the highest in Sacramento (higher than even the other Selland's restaraunts?). When we arrived, the corkage had mysteriously and totally unexpectedly risen to $75 per bottle. $75?!? For what??? Not only is that higher than likely anywhere else in California, it came as a total surprise. We brought in three standard bottles of wine and two magnums. A standard bottle of wine provides 5 typical glasses. A magnum, 10 glasses. They charged $150 each per magnum, $75 per standard bottle. That averages out to $15 per each glass with us providing the wine! The wine captain, a nice guy, had to serve all 60 people in the restaurant. Can't fault him for being overworked, but when we had to pour our own wines and are getting charged $15 per glass for doing so, that is just plain ridiculous and I, as the one footing the bill, left feeling violated. I wouldn't have brought wine in had we been properly notified after we waited months to get in and then have The Kitchen raise the rates to ridiculous highs without telling us.Will we go back? Not likely at those rates. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me...P.S. - Check the rates for beverages if you plan on going to The Kitchen. The wines start around $100 per bottle of wine for wines that you likely won't recognize. And the ones you do recognize you'll likely gulp at the prices. Least said the Sonoma County wine grower in our party... A non-alcoholic beverage was $15; a cocktail started at $20. You might want to plan on a very sober night. Too bad - good food usually taste better with a good glass of wine.
Be the first to ReplyDining at the Kitchen is truly an experience!! The $200
Dining at the Kitchen is truly an experience!! The $200 price tag is justified because you essentially get a dinner and a show (entire meal is about 4 hours). You start off the night with small bites in the kitchen - the spicy tuna wrapped in a shisho leaf was my favorite!! It's hard to resist, but make sure not to leave room for the rest of the meal!!There meal is presented over 7 acts, and each one is so unique and creative! In the middle of the meal is an intermission where you are given a platter of seafood (oysters and poke). The oysters were so good we ended up eating about a dozen each :) they are very nice about getting you more food, but it does take awhile since they make it fresh. You can also place special orders (we had empanadas and saw someone else order garlic bread). The chef is hilarious, but his jokes are not the most family friendly, and he loves to roast people, so keep that in mind if you are more sensitive. I had a great time and can't wait to be back to celebrate another special occasion :)
Be the first to ReplyThis place is amazing! As my second Michelin star
This place is amazing! As my second Michelin star restaurant this has really raised the bar in terms of the service and the food. I never knew this place existed because there is no signage on the building. It's not in the best neighborhood and you wait outside until the doors open at 6:30PM. Once you go inside the atmosphere is transformed. The seating is assigned so groups will sit at the tables in the back and the parties of 2-3 sit at the counter. There is plenty of staff to take drink orders, water was refilled every few minutes, and check on you regularly to make sure everything is good. The staff was friendly and not pretentious. The feel is fine dining in a casual setting so feel free to dress up or down. Chef Kelly is very entertaining to watch- goes around to ask if it is your first time dining here, if you are celebrating special occasion, and if there is any allergies. The menu is fresh locally sourced and changes weekly. Since you make reservations a month in advance, it will be a surprise what you will be eating. I would say if you do not eat raw seafood, you may miss out on the full dining experience. You get to browse the back for appetizers at the beginning. You can see how much was prepped in advance and how organized the staff is. The food is also prepared in front of you- small batches that are plated. Everyone knows their role and Chef Kelly looks at the time to make sure everything is timely- even will grab plates from the back and clean up after every course.Be prepared to be here 3.5-4hrs. Best to take the next day off of work due to the late night. You can order extra of anything you like. They serve a lot of food so by the time you get to the main dish- you will be uncomfortably full. By the time we got to dessert we could not eat anymore so took the chocolate chip cookies and mignardise home. You also get a goodie bag with pastries for breakfast tomorrow. Temple drip coffee is free with dessert but if you get a cappuccino it will set you back $7 and is a nespresso pod. It's hard to pick a favorite dish because everything was pretty great. The only thing that didn't taste as expected was the tenderloin- more chewy than expected. Overall despite it being expensive it's good value and you will leave feeling like you are a lot of food. I would definitely recommend giving this a try!
Be the first to ReplyI can not begin to explain how incredible this place is.
If I had unlimited funds, I would try to eat here every week. I've been to a few Michelin Star restaurants and nothing compares. This is dinner is the best play I've ever been to, every act deserved a standing ovation. My favorite part is you can order as many as you want of any course. Mind blowing. The staff is incredible and makes you feel like family. I've been in the service industry and so I didn't want to over do it but they go above and beyond like no ask is too big. Chef is hilarious and so welcoming. Before dinner started we walked through the kitchen, pantry and refrigerators. Chef handed me some of the blueberries he got from the market to try that would later be in the dessert. I didn't want to leave when it was over. We waited until we got through every course to order a few extra that we wanted to try again and next time I would just order them as you are eating. Can not rave about The Kitchen enough! It's definitely a splurge for the average person but worth it for all you are getting! Already made another reservation for October and am counting down the days!
