Food 8/10 My thoughts straight from the sushi journal in real-time: 1. Snapper sea salt lemon juice lime: too much citrus but fish is soft 2. Chutoro: good wasabi balance, jelly-like consistency 3. Yellowtail shishito pepper: I like the char and the pepper pairing, a little chewier 4. Tuna truffle: fire, surprised I did appreciate truffle being added can definitely taste it 5. Shima aji: garlic chip most of the flavor, soft texture 6. Salmon tomato; mushy 7. Ikura: lemon zest. Why does this taste like boba to me 8. Botan ebi: kinda sweet, but not the sweetest, strong wasabi 9. Scallop: lime zest yuzu, no chew bite right through tender big scallop piece, very strong citrus again 10. Otoro toro caviar: caviar unnecessary but I love tuna so this was great, not too fishy 11. Eel: always solid, just a teensy bit dry 12. Toast: uni and toro, i love uni, bread was unnecessary would prefer w rice. This is what I don't like about innovative sushi 13. Toro handroll: a little small idk They are very generous with their fish pieces. The rice itself is not very distinct, light on the wasabi, little loose wish it had more vinegar, and we asked for less rice. I don't like frills in omakase, so this was definitely not my style. Atmosphere 3/10 Horrible ventilation bumped down the ranking significantly. The oil fumes made my head hurt. The counter is three-sided. Typical mid-tier omakase pretty good price for what you get in NYC. Service 5/10 Nice service. Because it's a timed omakase spot, they fed us piece after piece quite consecutively, but not complaining about it.
Amazing location and atmosphere and price! 10/10 recommend.
Interesting and unique omakase.
SO GOOD.
Do yourself a favor and GO TO THIRTEEN WATER. I've tried a bunch of omakases and this was defiinitely the best for the price range. As a caveat, the seatings are every hour.... so you will feel a bit rushed (unless you're in a pinch then you'll be pumped). The chefs are all friendly and explain each nigiri + topping combo. Hosts are also attentive with drinks/ additional items to order. The sushi bar is packed in tightly but very well organized that you don't feel squished at all (esp compared to some other places cough cough sushi by M) Can't wait to come back!
It's a solid spot.
Good fish, good deal, good experience especially for a first time Omakase experience. The service definitely feels rushed, we were in and out within 45 minutes (you only get an hour time slot and the place is pretty small, seats maybe 15 total)

For the price, Thirteen Water is a very good omakase that I would recommend to any sushi lover. The quality of the fish was high, and the chefs exhibited strong creativity in balance with the higher pace of the service. The staff were friendly, and were very helpful with our BYO champagne. It is a nice space, everything you would expect from an omakase spot.

Every single piece was so delicious and the flavors meshed so well. It's $75 for 13 pieces. I am missing parts of each piece but overall they included: 1. Madai - snapper with lime zest 2. Chutoro - fatty tuna with pickled wasabi 3. Hamachi - hamachi yellowtail with shishito peppers 4. Tuna Truffle - blue fin tuna with shiitake mushroom and truffle (so so good) 5. Shima Aji - stripe jack with fried garlic 6. Salmon Tomato - salmon with seared tomato (was such an unexpecting tasty combo) 7. Ikura - salmon roe with yuzu skin (loved the hint of yuzu) 8. Botan Ebi - shrimp with pico wasabi 9. Hotate - scallop with sea salt, lime zest 10. Otoro Toro Caviar 11. Unagi - unagi over rice (simple and good) 12. Toast - tuna, uni (was a big fan of the toast portion because it was a bit dry) 13. Toro handroll - toro with pickled radish Loved every piece and highly recommend this place. Whole experience finished before the hour to allow for extra orders. Served on a plate with ginger. No personal soy sauce dish or wasabi as it is already implemented by the chef.
Where to start! We were part of the first group to enter.
At first we almost passed it because it blended in so well with the building. Small but straight to the point for omakase. $75 for 13 courses??? NYC omakase really is different and affordable. My husband and I had such a great early Valentines/Anniversary dinner here. My favorite had to be the uni toast while my husband loved the otoro Caviar (and me too but I love uni more lol). Would definitely come back or visit the other location!

13 pieces for $75 Came for Valentine's Day celeb and they were so cute they gave all the ladies a rose too Everything was very fresh and price was just right! Here's what we got: Madai / red snapper with lemon juice was great Chutoro- fatty toro ate it so quick I forgot to take a pic Hamachi fave so far with impactful flavors and Smokeyness Tuna truffle - yummy truffle Shima aji / striped jack with the garlic chip is hmm so delicious Salmon tomato - my least fave one - not sure if the tomato goes well with it Ikura - this was more basic Botan Ebi / shrimp - hmm so yummy Hotate / sea scallop - hmm one of my fave - fresh and loved the fresh lemony and spicyness that paired with it Otoro toro caviar: THIS WAS MY ABS FAVE Unagi: hmm very flavorful Toast: I normally don't like UNI but theirs were great!! UNI was not that fishy! The toast was very flavorful Toro hand roll - this was a packed out hand roll

...a 2.5 stars review. My wife saw the rave on Instagram and got baited...decided to have a couples' night out at the place. The place seats 16 people on a U-shaped bar with three sushi chefs serving the selected fish for the night. The decor is minimal, and the space can be tight depending on how wide you are. We started with a short wait as the previous guests were finishing up their meal. The moment the restaurant cleared, we were slowly seated...once filled, the wait staff asked what we would like to drink. Shortly after the omakse experience begins...madai, chutoro, hamachi with shisito pepper, tuna truffle, shima aji with fried garlic chip, salmon tomato, ikura with yuzu, botan ebi, hotate with lime zest, otoro toro caviar, unagi, toro and uni toast, toro handroll. We decided to add extra pieces of scallop/uni, spicy scallop handroll, and wagu/foie gras to end the night. The experience was not what I would expect from an omaske place. The interaction between the chef and customer barely existed. The chef prepared the sushi, putting it on the dish and introducing what sushi you're having. At one point of our meal, my sister-in-law discovered a thick curly hair in her shima aji. My brother low key notified the chef of the situation. The chef examined the piece of hair and called the wait staff over, who also examined the piece of hair. They then asked what we would like to do? We said, "How about replacing the piece of fish." The service without the incident is a 3, but with the hair incident, it's a 2. The place is runned like a factory assembly line, and the fish isn't great. For the price, the omakse meal is great if you don't know sushi. I tried it once and won't be returning, but do try for yourself and give it a shot.
Great deal for quality sushi.
The space is bigger than I thought. I think it seats almost 20 people. There were 3 main chefs per section. They were quick and efficient. I never had to wait long for my next piece. It came out at a good pace. I enjoyed every piece. Very nice garnishes that paired well on top of each. My most favorite was the toast. The toast was nice and crispy on the outside and surprisingly soft as you bite into it. I got an additional uni roll. They gave a generous amount of uni. The uni was decent. My one critique about the omakase is the rice. The rice didn't hold together well. It either stuck to the plate or fell apart. I had to hurry and throw the pieces into my mouth.
